Yady is nothing short of a miracle worker with alterations! My wedding dress had been with (who I thought was) a very reputable tailor for over two months after taking my measurements. When I finally picked it up, it fit me very poorly. I was totally panicking and unsure of what to do with less than a month until the big day. I took it to Yady as a last resort, knowing she most likely wouldn't be able to fit me in. She totally could have turned me away seeing as it's basically the height of wedding season and I was giving her three weeks. Not only did she accommodate me, she was so friendly and reassuring about it, AND she finished the dress in 2 weeks so that we had a few buffer days to make final tweaks and get the dress perfect. Yadi did not owe me that kind of service whatsoever! I was blown away at her customer service. This was a tall order for a last minute request- NOT a simple hem job. The top of my dress basically had to be completely reconstructed. She totally saved my dress and restored my excitement about the wedding in general. I can't recommend Yady's enough! A few weeks ago, I was in a tough spot & she came to my rescue. For context, I was getting married and had been super lazy about trying on my tuxedo rental. I kept telling my fiancée (now wife) that "these rentals always fit great, so I'm not worried." Famous last words. About ~5 days before my wedding, I tried on the rental. This time around, the pants were (of course) way too baggy. They were at least ~4 inches too long. I looked absurd. That left me scrambling. There wasn't enough time to go back & forth with the rental company to get another set of pants. I went to Yady's, explained the situation/urgency, and she was happy to help! In less than ~48 hours, she knocked out the alterations and had the pants ready for pick up before we left for our wedding weekend. Yady's Alterations is an amazing place. Warning, it is small and she always has plenty of work but she is extremely nice, welcoming, accommodating, and beyond that, she runs a very professional, high-quality, exception attention to detail service. She is honest and will give you advice but if you truly want something else, she will do it. Here is my rule of thumb, I have been to several places for alterations, so either I start off with Yady's and I am happy or I bring the messed up article to Yady to fix and then I am happy. I went to this place on a whim after driving by it a million times. I've had two dresses and a pair of pants hemmed here and all fit perfectly! One of the dresses needed some additional alterations and Parvin (the woman who took care of me) was able to handle no problem. Yady is the tailor you're looking for. She has worked on several pieces for me that range in terms of fabric and cut, and the quality of her work is excellent whether it's casual clothing or a suit. On business wear in particular, she has helped me figure out which pieces do and do not need alterations (which is a sign of real integrity to me since she could make more money by altering everything). She can get the work done quickly if that's what you need, and the prices are very fair. Note that she only accepts cash and checks. I've gotten three pairs of pants altered at Yady's - They were way too big so I had them all taken in at the waist, which I know is kind of complicated to do. All three pairs look AMAZING! They do a great job on military uniforms. I have brought them a mess dress jacket and the heavy leather aviator jacket for changes in rank and they knew exactly what to do. I don't know how their prices compare to other places but they are reliable and usually finish the alterations ahead if schedule. read more

I love this place! The first time I came here I had found a cheap purse and wanted to turn it into a puppy bag. They took the purse and she created, completely from scratch, a waterproof insert for it. I've had it for years now. My dogs love it. I'm also a very short person, so I go here for just about all my clothes to have them altered. She does great. My daughter has a beloved toy that she ripped a hole in. I didn't want to fix it myself, I'm not very good or efficient with a needle and my fixes tend not to last long, as this toy is used daily I took it to Yady, she had the toy ready to go in record time. I took my wedding dress here to be repaired after another "seamstress" ruined the hem and did a horrible job with a basic bustle. The wedding was 3 weeks away and I was panicked! As soon as I got there she immediately put me at ease. Seriously. I just sensed that she knew how to fix things and I felt better! She looked at the dress and was able to clearly see where the other person had done crappy work. I did have to order polyester horsehair braid as she didn't have any and neither JoAnn's or Michael's has that size, but was able to get next day shipping from amazon. She completely re-did the ENTIRE hem with the new polyester horsehair braid, and she created a new bustle. She completed the dress within a few days of starting it, and before the original quoted completion date. The price was completely reasonable as well, but I insisted on paying more than the original quoted price as she did much more work than we thought would be needed. I bought an oversized sports jacket about five years ago and then completely forgot about it. I discovered it in my closet before an event and was swimming in it. I brought the jacket to Yady's and she pulled in the waist and sleeves for me. She was very friendly and professional. She offered to have it done the next day (I didn't need it done that quickly and she had it done the following week instead). I'd definitely come back here again. Not really sure why this place gets bad reviews. I've been a customer twice. First time, she sewed up an old backpack for me -- good as new. Second time, she fixed a couple of winter coats that needed some tailoring. Each time she was courteous, professional, and had the work done within a day or two and for very little money. I needed major alterations done on my wedding dress and I could not find a decent place in Charlottesville. All the alteration places were way too expensive, had bad reviews, or were just plain rude when I called them. I discovered Yady's and she was the only one online with no bad reviews so I gave it a shot.... She did an EXCELLENT job. She had to cut my dress in half, put it back together properly, take it in, and reconstruct the back. She did all that and I had it back in a week. I would not recommend wasting your money. I took my wedding dress here and not only did she do the complete opposite of what I asked, she argued with me when I tried to explain again to get it fixed. Now I am out the money spent on her and I have to get another seamstress to fix my dress. The shop does bad business. read more

I took an expensive leather jacket here for a simple alteration, having the sleeves shortened. The woman told me it would look just like the original cuff, so I took my chance and left it with her. When I picked it up, I noticed that the stitching was wavy, and one of the cuffs has holes in the leather because she stitched it then pulled out the thread to do it again. None of these issues were mentioned when I picked it up. I decided against arguing about it because I knew it would go no where. This is likely a common experience for most alteration shops in Charlottesville. I have about 30 items that need to be altered. I will just look for a real tailor in Washington D.C. that understands quality work and has respect for people's belongings. read more
