Please DO NOT use this tailor. I am new to Charlottesville, but I know about tailoring. (My grandfather was a tailor.) I NEVER leave bad reviews. These owners are rude and incompetent. I had a men's sport coat that needed an alteration. I explained what I needed. I asked very specifically if it could be fixed as I desired. They responded, yes. and asked me to pay $85 upfront, which I did. The sport coat was not fixed, and then they gave me various explanations as to why when I asked them to try again. I've been going here for years. ( not any more) returned to have two pairs of pants to have lowered they were n inch too high. She could not have been more rude! Rather than wanting to fix the problem, she gave me dirty looks and a hard time blaming me that I agreed to the measurements. I've been going there for more than 12 yrs. Nvr again! $35 to replace a pill and a cap to a zipper. not replace the full zipper which still would have been overpriced. No; just the pull and the cap. They then laughed at me when I said that it was expensive. If you feel like being overcharged and then laughed at, then you'll love this place. read more

Great experience with general tailoring. Dressing rooms available. Wish that, in general, tailors could help with uniforms a bit more because it's not like I am doing this everyday, and I totally don't know what I'm supposed to get anyway (but she and her team are recommended). Get over the seeming lack of social skills and take this shop for what it is - a no-nonsense, efficiently run alterations shop. On my first visit, I was a bit hesitant to leave my pants there as the woman did not write notes on special requests, but there was something about the way she reassured me that was...reassuring. I came back two days later and they were perfect! She even took extra time to double check the work when I tried them on (not that she needed to). In the end, the price was only 2/3 of what I expected, and the quality was 4/3 what I expected. This has been consistent with all the work I and several friends have had done here. My only advice/challenge for you is to try and make her smile when you visit. read more

i can understand why they have such terrible ratings, they ARE justified they refuse to give any idea of pricing over the phone, i just wanted a ballpark estimate, and they guy would not do it i came here to get a zipper pull placed back on its track on my ski jacket. the lady and man kept me waiting for almost 10 minutes while the lady was working with one customer. then when it was my turn, the lady said the pull had to be replaced. i was very skeptical, as i can do some basic alterations on my own, and to my eye this did not need to be entirely replaced. she then called to her husband ,in chinese, who said the same thing. anyways, i said well how much is it going to cost. and they said 28 dollars, this should not cost more than ten. i said that is very experience. then the lady said goodbye in a dismissive way. so then i went to chongs,, where the lady (also chinese ) did not have replace any thing except the top zipper lock and was done in less than 3 minutes, she charged five bucks overall bad customer service, they are outright rude , and no it has nothing to do with a 'language' barrier, i was raised by immigrants and i can tell the freaking difference outrageous pricing i question their skill, or if they are elevating the work required in order to price gauge that being said, if they will do that on a very simple skill, i cringe to think what they do with dress alterations which require even more of their handiwork read more

Superb Alterations did a wonderful job on my husband's suit the week before our wedding. At first they'd indicated a 4 day turnaround for a suit jacket and pants, but the proprietor worked with our needs and got it to us in 3 work days! The fitting was a matter of moments in her shop, and we were very happy with the results. Additionally, the shop is EXTREMELY clean and tidy. Very nice to see that level of perfectionsim when you trust someone with your formal clothes. read more

I paid $50 to get a fantastic $30 dress altered. When I tried it on after said alterations took place, it was pulling in all sorts of weird ways on top. I asked the woman about it and she said something to the effect of "I altered it how you wanted. That was the effect. If you want to fix thepart that's pulling now it would be more money." She NEVER told me ahead of time that if I altered it, it would ruin the dress. I have had tailors do this before and it is very helpful. Needless to say, I won't be going back. read more

DO NOT EVER GO HERE EVER. Regina, the lady in charge, is the single most rude person I have ever had to deal with. When I dropped off my dress, she gave me a hefty $150 quote for alterations to my dress. She told me I had until tomorrow to decide if I wanted to follow through with the order. I called her today to cancel and she yelled at me the entire time we were on the phone and told me I would have to pay anyways. She told me, "you won't get your dress back" and she hung up on me. Terrible customer service and truthfully didn't know what she was doing when she was pinning the dress. Uneven hems. COMPLETELY UNSASTISFIED WITH THIS PLACE. Biggest regret of the year so far. I dropped off Tommy Bahama jeans to have them hemmed (they don't speak English). When I picked them up they had cut them off to jeans shorts. When I demanded my money back the owner took out scissors and cut up my garment (this actually happened...I know right). If you don't believe this story, feel free to give them your money. This experience cost me $85. What will it cost you? In 30 years living in charlottesville the most embarrassing excuse for customer service I've experienced. Overpriced and bad service. When I called to ask for an estimate (hemming dress and sash, and shortening halter of a brides maid dress), the man that picked up told me that I needed to bring it to the place. Fair enough. I drove over and got the dress looked at. Grand total: $100 for those three alterations. She told me that there were three layers and that's why it added up to the amount, but honestly, one didn't even have to be hemmed--just cut. Not to mention they were both very unfriendly. I left and took my dress to Stitch in Time, and paid $55 instead. read more

I've gone here twice. First time was to shorten a pair a jeans that were too long. She quoted a week. Second time was to shorten four pairs of pants. Same quote of a week. Both times, the job was done as expected. Great fit, decent price and on time. The lady was nice and rather conversational the first time, straight business the second. I will knock off a star though. The second set of pants I had hemmed smelled like old lady grandma perfume. You know, like the type the little old lady at church wears... *gag*! read more

Do not give them your business. I went in to have 3 nice hand-me-down pants for my step-son shortened. He was measured and 2 weeks later I picked them up without him. The next weekend he put on a pair and they were at least an inch if not more too long. He was walking on them below his heel. We went back in and I stated that the pants were too long and the woman's first words were "And who's fault do you think this is?" and glared at me. I was taken aback. She then stated that we had come in with sneakers, not the dress shoes and therefore it was my fault. She said it would cost $12 to redo the alteration. I said I had the dress shoes with me and needed it done, at least one pair. However, I had my step-son try on the pants with the sneakers, they still dragged on the ground. When she saw this she said I had said I wanted them long so he could grow into them and it would be $8. What BS is that?! I had one pair done in one hour as I want nice pants for church this weekend. I will not pay for the other pairs to be altered there even if it were free now. This is the worst customer service I have had in a years. Expect a bad experience. read more

I WILL NEVER USE HER AGAIN!!! I have been in Charlottesville 30 years. She is THE MOST EXPENSIVE in town. I dropped off a Tumi Clothier insert with a zipper that needed replacing. She offered several Zippers to choose from. The most expensive was $18. I explained that I wanted to buy the best Zipper made because she was charging me $60+$18(zipper)=$78 total. She raved about her zipper quality. I used it TWICE and 2 teeth broke off. She wouldn't replace our even consider it was her falt. "I dont make zipper". She blamed me for her poor quality. My wife took her flowers about a year ago because she was crying when we walked in talking about how rude an earlier customer was to her. Given how rude and accusatory she was to me, her character to cheat people. read more

Quick, efficient, and professional- this alterations shop is all business. While a bit pricey, they were able to complete a lot of high-quality work for me on a relatively tight timeline. This place has the WORST customer service I have ever experienced. I had some jeans hemmed and a dress hemmed with the shoulders taken up also. You pay when you drop things off. I went to pick up my items and the woman said "I charged you the wrong amount when you dropped off, you owe $10 more dollars." I said, very politely I might add, "I paid what was quoted, I'm sorry you charged me the wrong amount, but this was not my mistake, so I don't think I should have to pay." The woman then said, "Ok, my mistake, it's ok." As I walked away, in front of another customer, she says, "I HOPE I NEVER SEE YOU AGAIN." I of course turned around and said, "excuse me? Why would you say that? It was not my fault you misquoted me and I was very polite about it." She then said, "I said I hope I never see you again. bye" and waved her hand. I can't believe someone in the customer service industry would say such a thing to a customer. I've never had someone who provided me a service be that rude. You guys will definitely NOT see me again and I will never recommend this alterations place. Jeans hemmed - $13 Dress hemmed - $13 (but she was supposed to charge me $23 apparently) Dress shoulders taken up 2 inches - $45 Also - If you check the reviews on google for this place, you will see that this woman has been very rude to a lot of other people as well. read more

Went in because my regular alterations place was closed for the holiday. When I came in, woman looked at me to say something. I changed into the dress I needed altered and she went about her business pinning it. My mom asked about half way through if anyone smoked there and was worried my dress would smell like smoke after getting it back. The woman denied anyone smoking and promised she used Febreeze all the time. She then said she could no longer do my alteration and began taking all the pins she had already put in. We insisted it was fine if no one truly did smoke inside but she no longer wanted our business. We left after changing, and she said nothing after basically asking us to leave. read more

I've been a customer here for about three or four years. They do terrific work; wife runs the front of the shop and husband (rarely seen) does the alterations. I cannot say enough about the quality of the work and also the friendliness of the owner (wife). She greets me by name, asks about my family, and recalls much of what I say many months later. I recently brought in a jacket with a damaged button (cleaners fault) and she didn't include that work in what I was charged for other items to be tailored. I'm an employee at UVA and I plan on coming back to Superb for many more years! read more

Wish I'd read the reviews before visiting this place. I don't know how these folks manage to stay in business. The couple in charge seemed unhappy and resentful. I took a pair of pants in to be hemmed. The woman behind the counter told me my $100+ yoga pants were "cheap." She pulled out a pair of pants from behind the counter with a $425 price tag to demonstrate just how cheap mine were. Not sure what she was trying to accomplish, but I chose to take my business elsewhere. I give them an A+ for their ability to drive customers away. There isn't a zero, so 1 is the next crappiest rating. The fact that the lady told me I had "boob fat hang" was fine; the fact that I paid $90 upfront was also fine. The fact that I asked her to take it in more and she talked me out of it was the beginning of the problem. When I left I felt satisfied that the dress would be altered just as we had discussed. After trying it on, I was seriously left devoid of words. Not only did she say she replaced the zipper (it was the same), she took it in so much more than where it had been pinned that I could not get into it. With the help of three people I finally did, but it felt like my rib cage was breaking and my liver was in my esophagus. I would hate to think that she did this on purpose, but she did get testy with me during the initial fitting. Naturally I thought I had gotten fat over the course of two weeks, but the scale confirmed 4 less pounds. It's her, not me. In fact, being 5'6 and 135 pounds with a 34 C bra size really doesn't sound fat to me, but maybe I'm living in a cave next to the owner. I would have taken it back, except I read a review where she literally cut someone's garment who had complained. And after my experience, I believe it. read more

I went here to have the bodice made smaller on a strapless bridesmaid gown. The woman who seems to be in charge pinned the dress so it fit perfectly. She requested that we pay first. It was ready 10 days later. She was on the phone when I picked up the dress and did not plan to check the fit. The adjustment seam in the bodice was done smoothly and well, but the top was gaping again. It did not fit as it had when pinned. After trying to figure out a way to solve the problem myself (tape? padding?) and asking the opinion of friends and family, I took the dress back. It had been less than two weeks since I picked it up. She was hostile and rude the minute I walked back in the door. While I tried to calmly discuss the problem, she began accusing me of everything but the Lindburgh kidnapping. She said it had been over a month since I brought the dress in, that I had changed my mind on how I wanted the dress to fit, that I was wearing different undergarments now (I was not), and that this would be a totally new job for another $42. At this point I'd only reported that the bustline was still gaping. After seeing the dress tried on again, she looked straight at it and said she saw nothing wrong--despite a view down the front of not just the top of a bra, but the whole bra. She continued to try to blame the situation on my whimsical ideas about fit and lies about a number of things. I have never had a person in customer service accuse me of lying before and it was quite a shock. She started jerking the sideseams of the dress around to repin it--now saying she would fix it for half price. Not wanting to leave the dress with someone I no longer trusted, I said that I was uncomfortable and would not be needing her services afterall. I told her I would not be coming there again, and she responded, "Thank you," and dimissively flipped her hand at me. I do not recommend bringing your business to a place that does not stand behind the quality of their work, doesn't care about proper fit, and is rude and dismissive to customers. read more

This is not a "great " business at all. They ruined a pair of my husband's suit pants. Whoever did the alteration is a complete amature and should not be trusted with anything of value. There are other places to get alterations and you need to access them and avoid Supurb Alterations. They did a supurb job in trashing a pair of perfectly good pants. read more

If I could give lower than 1 star I would. I had a skirt suit altered; it cost $160, but I had paid $35 so I thought it was a good investment. I didn't shop around. The work was fine, but you won't believe this: I paid her the money, then noticed that the skirt had a hanging mark--just needed a simple pressing so that the fabric would line up with the sideseam. I could have taken care of it myself, but since the woman was standing there at the ironing board--STEAM IRON IN HAND--I asked if she wouldn't mind taking a few seconds (literally would have taken 10 seconds) to press it out for me. "Oh, the dry cleaners can do that," she said. I reported this incident on Facebook so my 450 friends would know about it. Please do not support this kind of behavior. Try the place down in the Meadowbrook Shopping Center or Heidi's Perfect Fit near the Corner instead. Money is hard to earn; let's keep it local when we can, but only spend it with businesses who deserve it. read more
