I last went to Simbas a long 12 years ago when it was located on Denman St in the West End. Relocated 2 years ago to this location, it's a bit of a trek to get out here but definitely worth it! You are only coming out here to eat & go as the only other shop next door is a Starbucks. There's other restaurants nearby but after that - nothing. Try & avoid coming here during rush hour, as it gets real nutso with traffic on Boundary Rd. Simbas is a beautiful spacious restaurant. The food is out of Africa via Kenya with a Swahili influence. On the table was - Ugali, Masala Liver (chicken) & Machicha. Tasty & oh sooooooooooo yummy! Don't hesitate to use the hot sauces & chutneys provided if you need more heat. This is food I ate in Africa when I lived there in the 80s ... each bite took me back to Southern Africa! Simbas thank you for taking me home (born in Vancouver grew up in Africa) LOL. One of the top if not the very best African restaurant in Metro Vancouver!

I am very surprise with the cleanliness and the interior design of this restaurant, contemporary and yet there is this touch that showcased their cultures. Huge TV monitor and a fireplace, Very suitable to celebrate medium size events. Family owned business, pretty new in this location, I believed they were at Burnaby area before. Free limited parking in here maybe 10 small vehicles and shared by other businesses in this block. For my appez, I ordered samosa, I am not that hungry but just for the sake of photo and trying it for my review, sold by 5 pieces per order, I told the guy there if i can just order 2 pieces instead and told him my reason, I assumed his the owner because he said.."i throw 2 pieces for you for free", at first i am hesitant but i gave in sooner than expected.... It was served hot and crispy with 3 kinds of sauces, no doubt it was good specially with those sauces. I loved it....I love samosas.... For my main entree i got the chicken muchuzi and safron rice, Muchuzi is an African chicken dish cooked in special house blend of spices, meat are so tender and the sauce is very rich, more of a curry kind of a dish with a bite of chilli..The safron rice is always good elsewhere but take note a cup will cost you $4 plus tax....This dish is very good as well... They are serving alcoholic beverages here and thats a plus sign on anyone's review. Noise level is average to a bit noisy because when i came theres a group of 6 people accross my table and i gez they are celebrating a birth day... Excellent service, very warm, homey and friendly. They always have this "special of the day" when i came in it was fish dish and i do not want to eat fish for my dinner i want something heavy and filling. Pricing is just okay...affordable and worth...sometimes we are also paying for the good ambience... I feel that this place will go a long long way... I recommend this place to my co Yelper and all Vancouverites to try.... Ariba African cuisines....Kudos.... I will be back and bring some friends who loves spicy foods and idolizes Simba the lion king.....

One of the most slept on restaurants in Burnaby if you ask me. I've been to Simba Grill twice now, once when I first moved here, and I swore I'd be back. Unfortunately, I forgot about it until we stumbled across it again after the sushi place nearby was too full for us and boy am I glad that happened. The food here is so delicious. If you dont know what to try and are REALLY hungry, I recommend sharing the chefs special platter which gives you a little bit of everything. There are also a ton of vegetatian options to choose from as well. I tried the Kiyoga (coconut curry mushroom) and it was to die for. The sauce went really well with the side of ugali we ordered which reminded my partner of a dish her grandma used to make in her childhood. The decor is beautiful as well and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. The owner was walking around making sure people were happy, suggesting dishes to us and which sauces to pair with what. If you havent been here yet, you're missing out. I can't wait to come back

Popping in your mouth flavor. Everything I ordered at this place is an absolute banger. The service is the only reason why I didn't give this 5 stars, but to be honest they got the food out and listened to us whenever there was miscommunication. Will be back!

Went on a Friday night. Experienced fantastic dishes when it was located on Edmonds street almost 20 years ago. Savoured those memories...went in like a Lion..came out like a lame lamb. Dry chicken..Mogo chips garnished with an orange? No red chilly powder and a tiny ramakin of watered down tamarind sauce barley enough for 2 let alone 4. It's hard to give 2 stars as they didn't even serve Tusker beer!! Wth! But the plates are nice!

This restaurant has been added to our once-a-month list. I found the African décor interesting. A relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff.

It was full of flavor and wagyu was tender. Great item. Tonnato was also good. Very solid item. I did not have stacciatella. Tapenade was sour side, with strong olive and roasted pepper flavors stand out. Vongole(savory clams, fermented Taragu mares chilli white wine and parsley, squid ink linguine) Highlight! Clam and Vongole sauce were very delicious! Squid ink linguine was also good. It was good to have sauce with bread. Bistecca(Babette steak, Amaro jus, garlic scapes, frisee and hazelnuts) This item was also very delicious. Medium rare steak was tender(a bit chewy) the garlic scapes, hazelnut and frisée combination was excellent. i really enjoyed having together with meat. Overall, I really liked this restaurant. I would like to visit late night next time.

It's on the 14th floor of the hotel and can be closed off if the weather isn't accommodating, which is nice. We went for cocktails because we heard they have amazing craft cocktails, and they do. Let me start with the service because if the service isn't good, it's a wrap for me. No worries though because service was amazing. From the hostess stand to the bartender, top notch. Chris was our expert craft bartender. Not only was he knowledgeable, he was friendly. He kindly explained the menu and the associated cocktails. I wanted a caipirinha which was not on the menu but he made it for me and let me know what was comparable on the menu. My husband ordered the chapter II shots, which were a flight of cocktails from different regions (Bahamas, Spain, Philippines, and Chile) from around the world. I loved my caipirinha (9/10) and my husband enjoyed the flight (10/10). I also had the Tropicalia, which was a rum based drink with cachaca and tropical fruits. I asked Chris to balance it out so it wasn't overly sweet, which he gladly accommodated. It was good but I preferred the original caipirinha. I highly recommend Levantine if you're in the downtown Vancouver area.

I would recommend their Mezze selection - everything on there is delicious. The Fried Halloumi (cheese) was also good and unique because I don't see that in many others. As for the entree, must get the whole branzino!! It was the best dish. It was perfectly cooked, tender and flavorful. The group also enjoyed the steak. I didn't care for prawn. The prawn was slightly overcooked and tasted bitter to me.

There is definitely at least one back room, but the main dining room is a bright, airy space that has access to a patio where may even be some live music playing. The tables are gorgeous - all live edge, which might create a bit of an issue if you have short arms and are used to stealing bites across the table, but they are absolutely beautiful and a nice nod to the area. The wine list is extensive and a bit overwhelming, but the service is happy, friendly, and very knowledgeable. In fact, I love when servers don't know, admit it, and find the answer for you - it's humble and shows they really care at getting you what you want. We got the orange wine, which is a new favorite of mine. It's like a rose for reds. Rose:White::Orange:Red. More savory, still light, and best chilled. We had the beet hummus app, which is definitely best eaten with your hands. It's light and delicious. We had the miso black cod, a personal favorite, and the lasagna for dinner and while both were good, the accoutrements with the cod were the true standout. Amazing and I could probably eat two of them. As the restaurant operates on a seasonal menu, we had a strawberry rhubarb cobbler for dessert. I know there is Sunday Brunch, and I can't wait to try it. It's not the cheapest, but it's one of the nicer restaurants in Whatcom, and is definitely worth your pennies. Everything about it makes for a truly nice experience, and we'll definitely be back.

You won't find the lesser known tapas here - just the main popular ones we all know. Food Presentation: Simple, nothing crazy here. Plated with intention. Food Taste and Quality: Food came to the table hot and fresh out of the kitchen. Some of the patatas bravas were a bit undercooked - for me there was a bit too much sauce here. They also have the shishito peppers here - even though 1 out of 10 are spicy, it was more like 5 out of 10 were spicy. Luckily they were all grilled to perfection. The cod fritters were great, would order again. Portion Sizes: You'll need to order at least 5 dishes for a table of 2.
