5/5 Stars! JD provided outstanding service! He was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had a great experience. The food was delicious, and the overall experience was excellent. Huge shoutout to JD for going above and beyond! Definitely recommend this place and will be coming back!

Solid location Good menu Incredible lunch special menu $15 for 3 course menu The broth is a bit salty for me, but just ask for hot water to help dilute it Great option for lunch available Monday thru Friday l on holidays too

Stopped to try this place finally. We were seated quickly. Waiter was very kind. We ordered the Ramen & Appetizer special for $20.50. We also order Spicy Chicken Bun, Edamame, Gyoza and spicy Ramen and the classic. The broth on that Ramen was amazing. It wasn't over bearing and every bite was full of taste. The Pork belly was so soft. Everything was so flavorful. They had a nice crowd but there was no mishap on the customer service. Service was A1. If you want a variety of options this is the place to give a try.

Food is great as always. Blaze combo is the way to go. Great area parking was very accessible! JD was the best!

Always a great dining experience. Server JD is such a pleasure. The ramen can never be topped, perfect spice makes it soo yum. The pork bun is just the bees knees. The iced green tea deliscious. I highly recommend silverlake ramen Downey.

It was nice to see a decent ramen franchise open up in Downey instead of having to drive to our neighbors in Cerritos, Cypress and beyond or Orange County or DTLA/Little Tokyo for my ramen fix. While the price of a bowl is somewhat reasonable and the food does come out quickly, the service overall was great but could use a slight improvement. Throughout my meal I could hear multiple patrons flag down a server to refill their water. Remember, you're serving dishes that contain spices and some people's heat and spice tolerances are different from others so it's no suprise they're going to consume large amounts of water to cool down. It would be more convenient if the servers walked around with a water pitcher (ice cold preferably instead of lukewarm water) and check if any of the patrons needed refills. This would be an exemplary service that any restaurant should follow. Now the bowl itself that they serve the ramen in can be deceiving. While the bowls look large from above and the broth looks abundant, the base of the bowl is actually very narrow and therefore the serving size is significantly smaller than your normal serving at another ramen establishment. They intentionally do this to serve less broth. The fact that they use a large mouth bowl with a narrow base to "stretch out" their broth is a huge red flag and is definitely not worth the price. Now you may read this and say, "You're paying for the noodles, not the soup!" If you truly know ramen and the art behind it, the noodles isn't what makes the dish; it's the broth. The broth is the foundation and adds depth to the entire dish whether it's from the stock, the seasoning, or the oils, each component is what truly makes up ramen, not just the noodles. It's clear the design of the bowl is flawed and what's even more obvious is they serve just enough broth that measure right below their establishment's name on the bowl. I understand they do this for aesthetics but in the culinary world, if you're going to sacrifice quantity for art, save that for fine dining, not a noodle shop.

The Classic

My first time here since I had this place saved for awhile and it didn't disappoint. Parking was very accessible. Location is great. Service by JD was amazing and the food was delicious! Wasn't too loud or quiet. Must try.

Ordered ramen with some extras and broccoli. It was easy to use the app and even got a free topping. Located across the street from our hotel, we needed lunch and ramen sounded good. Food was ready quickly. Inside was clean and staff was helpful. The food looked and smelled yummy. The ramen was flavorful and all our extra toppings were perfect. The broccoli was crisp and the sesame sauce was delicious. The pork bun was declared a new favorite. Overall great food, our togo bag did not have enough utensils for us but we made the best of it.

I ordered the Spicy Miso Ramen with extra veggies, and it was incredible. My friend had the Umaya Ramen and said it was the best ramen he's ever had. My son ordered the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen and gave it a 10/10. We also shared the Pork Belly Oshi, and wow--it was amazing. Honestly, y'all are missing out if you haven't tried Umaya Ramen. I'm surprised there isn't a line out the door! Another huge plus: they're open late until 1 a.m. and the music creates a great vibe. We'll definitely be back!

I've been coming here for a years, but my recent visit Friday night was incredibly disappointing. Word is that management is revamping the menu, but the execution right now is a major step backward. The Food & Drink: * The Ramen: The soup arrived at the table cold, and the broth was completely bland. The noodles had a distinct chalky texture, and the entire bowl felt like it was put together using pre-packaged, "out of a bag" ingredients rather than being made with care. * The Sake: I ordered a hot sake, but it was served tepid. The Cleanliness: The physical state of the dining area needs immediate attention. Both our dining table and the sake carafe itself were noticeably sticky to the touch. It was telling that on a night when next door restaurants were packed, Umaya was almost entirely empty. The Silver Lining: The one bright spot of the evening was the waitstaff. The servers were actually very good, attentive, and polite. It was the waitstaff that have me upgrading from 1 stars to 2 stars. I hope management takes a hard look at these menu changes and cleanliness standards. Until they fix the food quality and bring back what made this place great, I won't be returning.

They offer a lunch special for just $15 that comes with a starter (you can choose between edamame or salad), mini ramen, and a rice bowl (can be topped with chicken karage, fire roasted chicken, spicy tuna, pork, or curry). I went with the edamame, classic ramen, and rice bowl topped with chicken karage. When the food came out, I was shocked at the portions. Their "mini ramen" was practically a normal-sized serving and the rice bowl was served with a generous portion of chicken karage. I couldn't finish everything. More on that later. #2 The food was shockingly delicious. The ramen pork broth was creamy and silky smooth. The pork belly was wonderfully seared and crispy on the outside and tender and fatty on the inside. Loved the texture of it. The chicken karage was crispy on the outside and flavorful. The spicy mayo sauce drizzled on top took it to another level. The edamame also deserves a shout out. It came out hot, just the way I like it. #3 The service was top notch. Our server was very nice and helpful. We knew this dude was something special when he asked how much salt I wanted on the edamame. I've ordered edamame countless times from restaurants all over Southern CA. No one has ever asked me that. It's a small detail, but it speaks volumes about the service. The food came out super fast. Considering it was pretty busy, that was impressive to me. Multiple employees proactively asked me if I wanted a to-go box since you know, there was so much food that I couldn't finish it all. I'm still trying to figure out how they can offer great food, generous portions, and fantastic service for only 15 bucks, but hey, I'm not complaining. Highly recommend checking this place out. Chances are high that you won't be disappointed.

One of our coworkers has been coming here for 20 years, so we knew we were in good hands! The menu is EXTENSIVE and can be a little overwhelming for a first-timer, but our waitstaff was amazing--patient, friendly, and happy to help us navigate all the options. And trust me... we ordered! We tried several lunch combos, appetizers, and sides. I had the veggie ramen, and our table also enjoyed the fried green beans, veggie spring rolls, fried rice, and plenty of other goodies. Everything was fresh, hot, and delicious. What I loved most was the comfortable, no-frills atmosphere. This place has clearly been doing what they do for a long time, and it almost feels like you're eating in Grandma's kitchen--good food, welcoming service, and no need for anything fancy. The smell came from a sewer line somewhere in the vicinity of the restaurant. Be that as it may, we left about five minutes into our wait. I knew that waiting any longer for a seat inside the restaurant would result in my wife and I eating our meal with the stench of sewage tainting every slurp and every bite. Recent reviewers have described the service as rude, unhelpful, and accompanied by a poor attitude. One reviewer described the service as "awful, horrible, rude service," while another said the woman at the front had a "terrible attitude." Another recent reviewer described the host as rude after being told to wait outside in the rain and wind, and another specifically mentioned that the hostess was not helpful when they had questions. Unfortunately, this makes my experience seem much less like an isolated incident and more like a recurring customer-service problem. My own experience involved someone at the front who was unnecessarily difficult, unwilling to help with basic questions or alternatives, and ultimately refused service when I asked to speak with management. What is even more concerning is that I subsequently tried multiple times to reach management about what happened and did not receive a return call. When several recent customers are independently describing similar experiences with front-of-house staff, I would expect management or ownership to take those complaints seriously. Based on my experience and the pattern reflected in other recent reviews, I cannot recommend this restaurant. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere that values its customers and treats them with basic courtesy and respect.
