My favorite location for this restaurant chain! Food is always yummmm, staff is always friendly amd the ambiance is always chill

    Spicy veggie ramen with egg
    Tina M.

Our experience at Silverlake Ramen could be summarized as "absolute yum!" The spicy veggie ramen was delicious, topped with a generous portion of fresh, tasty vegetables and tofu, and there were so many noodles that I couldn't even finish it. The miso broth was tasty and the egg (an add-on) was cooked to perfection, creamy and just... wow! I still dream of that ramen bowl a few days later... My husband had the impossible bao and a side of spicy kimchi. He loved the kimchi so much in fact that he ordered a second serving (he's never done that before.) I don't really love kimchi but I had to taste it, and even I have to admit that it was good. The service was excellent and expedient. This was probably one of the top 3 best ramens I've had in my life. The food at Silverlake knocked my socks off. I will make a point of stopping by again next time I'm in LA! It's totally worth it.

Wow..... so obsessed I tried silverlake ramen for the first time and omg it's so yummy. I am pretty particular with my ramen but tbh I'm super impressed. This will definitely be my go to spot, and to top it off there was no wait on a Sunday evening plus the service and staff are great. Also the prices on the menu are beautiful !!

Ramen menu as of Oct 2025, tsukemen discontinued :(

I've been eating at Silverlake Ramen for about 10 years now, and to this day it's still in my top 3 ramen spots. Inside has a casual vibe, and you can tell the restaurant is proud of it's LA roots. Service has always been amazing every time I've eaten here. Parking can be challenging, but the lot outside has valet if you can't find street parking. Their tonkotsu ramen has a rich, flavorful broth, and their pork chashu always comes to my mind first when I think of tender, melt-in-your-mouth chashu. Their sides are all so good too! I frequently get their karaage and spicy chicken bun (definitely SPICY!!) I'm devastated that they removed tsukemen from the menu just a month ago because it was my absolute favorite, and I haven't found a single place that does tsukemen better besides in Tokyo.

We went for a joke and this is one of my friends favorite spots. Well now it's one of mine too. This is some of the best ramen I've had since coming back from Japan. I got the spicy chicken and it hit the spot! I will be coming back after another successful hike to treat myself!

We were on vacation and this restaurant was close by. We walk there it's in a little alley with a ton of restaurants. We sat in the patio section that had heating lamps and there was a lot of privacy. We ordered crispy chicken, gyoza, and ramen. Everything seemed very fresh and the service was fast. The ramen was very good, the gyoza's were crispy, and the chicken was very crispy. This was a great date night idea.

I ordered the shoyu chicken ramen and chicken KaraAge combo. The food itself and dine in service itself is great. The only downside is the "highway robbery" like parking - they don't have parking spot for customers rather there is "valet only" parking that charges 6-7 dollars per visit. When I asked the restaurant, they say "we don't have/own the parking". This is like they make the dish but don't provide utensils - yet some other business try to sell you the utensils otherwise you have no way to eat there. LoL

My friends & I met up at the original Silverlake Ramen location for lunch. With just a dozen tables, the restaurant was smaller than I expected. Getting a combo was the way to go; I had planned on ordering an appetizer & ramen, this way saved a couple bucks at around $22 for both. The Spicy Chicken Bun contained flavorful chicken karaage but was over-sauced in teriyaki. Shoyu Ramen has a light broth & I enjoyed the generous portions of green onion & tender bamboo shoots, however the noodles were a touch overcooked. A decent bowl, but with the abundance of ramen shops to try in LA, I wouldn't rush back to this particular chain. Servers made great recommendations for our group & were definitely knowledgeable about every dish on the menu. They never made us feel rushed & were on hand for anything we needed. Great hospitality.

I've admired this cuisine since my first experience with Ramen. I never knew that noodles could be so filling and full of soul. So when I decided I needed a quick bite before my day ended, to my surprise, my experience at Silver Lake Ramen was no different. I visited SLR after a friend picked me up from an impromptu flight change. Amongst other things, I said "I love ramen" so she recommended SLR which was a shimmy down the hill. I arrived on Friday, October 6th (2023), around 10:30pm. The entire strip was busy, full of folks frolicking, on dates and whatnot. I stepped in for a bit and had to register for a table. After about 15 minutes, I was seated at a small table meant for two near the entrance. I had somewhere to be so I only ordered the Classic Ramen with Chicken. The wait wasn't long but it was entertaining as people were cheery throughout the space. The meal came quick but I was impressed by the robust but soothing flavor given the simplicity of the order. Everything from the broth to the noodles was excellent. I was impressed with the quick service and efficiency of the restaurant. Overall, after having little to no expectations for this quick Ramen meal, I was delighted to have came. All elements of a solid establishment came together; cheery atmosphere, solid food and efficient service. If you're in the Silver Lake area, this would be the place to go!

With all the hype of this place, I expected better ramen, but I do think this is a little average. Texture of the noodles could have been better, soup was not as creamy as I thought it would be. I think it's good to note that this wasn't too heavy though. I would definitely not wait in a huge line for it.

1:43 on a Thursday afternoon I was so glad to find parking on the street. Sometimes that is the biggest struggle in coming here. You don't really want to pay the very small Plaza valet people. But anyway, we found Street parking. We got lucky. We were able to quickly sit down and order our food. We hadn't been here in a while, but the menu has not changed tremendously. The food is still consistently good. My little one had a. soboro bowl, ground chicken with scrambled egg and usually comes with red ginger, sesame seeds and green onions, but she wanted none of that. One thing that is different, and I don't know how long ago they changed this about their menu, but they used to do a small size of the same bowl that you could get with an accompanying bowl of Ramen. Apparently they don't do this anymore. Now, if you order a combo, you select your ramen and broth... and then you get to select your other additional item off of their list of appetizers that are available. Not feeling too hungry on this warm summer afternoon, I ordered a California roll. It was delicious. The rice was not hard or over flavored. And also, if you have any in the sesame seeds. Perfect snack. We took home a big bum, extra pickled onions and the jalapeños being able to feed a family of three this way with actually very affordable. The portion sizes are still just enough for us. This is one of our favorite spots to come to in the area, especially after a long day of appointments at the Neighbor Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. But as I mentioned before, sometimes parking can be a little bit of a difficult difficulty. Typically, it was not a freezer, but it was not too warm in here either. The restaurant is very comfortable. It is very clean, I have never been here and it not be clean or being cleaned immediately after a party leaves. the staff are very friendly. I really appreciate how well the staff listens to the Ingredients that I ask to be left out of food, bc we are allergic.

This is a legit ramen place in Silverlake. It's reasonably priced, but parking can be a bit of a challenge in their lot. There is a long wait during lunch hours, but quick service. It's one of my favorite go-to ramen places close to home. They have a combination of bowls and a pretty good deal. Tasty ramen!

    Samuel R.

Now this is what I like my ramen to be, great flavor and just the right amount of spice to get your nose running. The place is on the smaller side, so reservations are a must, there is out door seating but depending on the weather you may just want to wait to sit inside. If you're in the area and in the mood for some Ramen, check them out.

Ask the Community - Silverlake Ramen

Does Silver Lake Ramen cook its broth for 24 hours like the real Ramen places do? I'm asking because I thought it got famous because it had authentic broth but now I don't see any reference to slow cooked broth and the restaurant is now a franchise.

Hello~ we still cooking many hours of broth to get rich flavor. It’s not exactly 24hrs but we put in the time and care just like we always have.

Does your ramen have msg? Any options without msg?

Do they have gluten free noodles?

    No. So sad.

When did this restaurant change ownership?

Is there a vegan broth, please? And is take out available?

Yes , they have a vegan broth and it's miso based. They offer takeout as well.

Would you consider adding gluten-free noodles? I'm in LOVE with the Tsukemen and would eat it all the time if you had a rice noodle substitute. Thank you!

I'm pretty sure they would consider it if you bought it to their attention. Good luck

    Is there outside seating?

No, it's all inside and a little small.

Why has the broth flavor changed?

Good question! It's not good anymore. I think they changed ownership?

Do you have any gluten free noodles?

Hi! Jennifer, we dont have gluteen free noodles.… Read more

For the vegetable/vegan option- does the broth contain dairy?

NO it does not contain dairy.

Do you have have the nutrition (calorie) details available for your menu?

Hi Not yet but we will be working on it in near future.

This is my go-to ramen place but my recent visit the noodle was not the same did they change it?

Are they open on Christmas day?

We are closed on christmas day

Is there MSG in the food or any of the sauces used to cook it?

Restaurant might not, but the gradients they purchase might come with it.

Do they have gluten free noodles?

Hey Morgan, Silverlake Ramen does not offer gluten free noodles, however you can always subtitue the noodles for rice.

Do they have gluten free ramen?

    NO. Don't waste your time

Do they have gluten free option?

Shawn, glad you reached out. I know they have a vegetable ramen that is ordered a lot. I'm not a gluten expert. It's LA so I'm sure they have thought of that. Call and ask. They are friendly. Enjoy!

Is there a way to put name on list on Yelp?

Yes, however, you can only do so if you're within 5 miles from the restaurant. Once you reached the location make sure to check-in and confirm your presence.

When I make Ramen at home, I pour the water out and just eat the noodles. Can you order ramen like that here?

Edit: they do have soba, though those noodles are meant from dipping and come with a special sauce on the side. Also, unlike ramen noodles, soba typically isn't fried.

All the workers answered my questions and even as the dinner rush came in, I never felt like I was pressured to hurry up. Huge kudos to them for this. There are lots of places to get ramen in Little Tokyo and I have my go to places, but now that so many other ramen places are popping up in the 626, the daunting task of driving to DTLA and finding parking have also factored into my decision to wander out. But as a J-fashion and anime fan, I'm just constantly thrown back into the Little Tokyo vortex. For this recent visit, I remember my friend hyping up the Anaheim Rakkan Ramen, so I thought why not? Came a bit later into the dinner rush, around 6-something PM and was seated immediately as a solo diner on a Friday night. It started to get a bit busier around the time I was finishing up. Seating is a bit tight inside with a couple of tables, counter bar seating, but they do have outdoors seating as well. Food came out efficiently and super piping hot. For my dinner, I got the: 1) Coffee Jelly: -One of my favorite, comforting Japanese desserts. If a bakery has it, I'll order it, and I felt a bit indulgent so I ordered it then. Staff asked if I wanted to have it at the end or just have it come out ASAP. I said ASAP and it was a good palate cleanser between the savory and sweet so I didn't get tired of the flavor. Not a super huge amount of coffee jelly (but makes sense since this is a restaurant and not a to go ordering counter at a bakery), but it was silky and had a good coffee flavor to it. You get a small "shot" of heavy cream milk to mix in and you can control how sweet you want it. Not bad. 2) Ramen Sushi Combo (Spicy Quartz Ramen + Aburi Salmon): -This comes with any signature ramen and any 2 pieces of sushi (extra fee for any upgrades) -I got their spicy quartz ramen, which is their creamy miso broth ramen made with your choice of chicken or pork chashu (I got pork), crispy fried garlic, seasoned egg, fried broccolini, and 2 pieces of nori. -There's LOTS of crispy fried garlic pieces in it. Every bite has a slight garlic after taste and it's nice to add a bit of crunchy texture to the ramen. -The broccolini is unique, I don't think I've ever had that with a ramen before and it's nice to have some greens too. - It's a seasoned egg, not a soft boiled egg, so don't expect that. It's not hard boiled all the way, but the flavor wasn't super strong for the egg. Not bad, but not the best. -The noodles are thicker egg noodles that had a nice chew and texture to it. However, the broth flavor wasn't that strong to me? If that makes sense. You get a good taste of creamy miso and a very slight kick, but I felt like the 2 small pieces of chashu and noodles didn't really take the flavor of the broth that well. Maybe I should have left my bowl of ramen soaking longer to get a better taste profile? Who knows. 3) Aburi Salmon (2 pieces): -I chose this with my combo and it doesn't incur an extra free. It's a seared salmon with mayo on top. -Not bad. Can never go wrong with aburi salmon. It's comparable to what you can get from Kura. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing or maybe my taste buds have been blasted by ramen spots with heavier, flavor intensive broths like Tenkaippin and Nagi. I don't mind going if someone else invites me and hopefully it's a better experience.

I have a picture of my brother eating here in middle school with us and then later on in his early 20's. Crazy time lapse, and truly shows what a favorite this place is and it's place in the community. As with all businesses in Little Tokyo, parking can suck (not as bad as K-town, but you're either paying or super circling around). Service is super efficient, welcoming and polite, as with their other locations as well. It's not the biggest restaurant, but none of the Shinsengumis I've been to have been particularly large. With this location, from my first visit, and all the subsequent visits, I always get their Hakata ramen, firmer noodles, since the longer I eat and enjoy the food, they'll soften a bit, less soup oil and less saltiness. I get all of the toppings that it comes with and I always add in a poached egg. Love the strong pork flavor since they stew their broth for so long and the tenderness of the chashu (sometimes I order more). Prices have definitely gone up and a slightly altered upgraded version of this ramen is almost $30 if you're not careful enough. Times have changed but how good this place hasn't. There's more ramen options now than there were like 10 years ago, but Shinsengumi is always a classic.

The salad had the perfect dressing - not overwhelming but flavorful. My tuna bowl was great. The tuna was perfectly tender and looked beautiful. My guest really enjoyed his Salmon Ikura Bowl. Many other nearby restaurants had really long lines and wait times. But I doubt their food was any better than what we had here. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We ordered a chicken karaage to start and it wasn't bad, nothing to write home about though. Since the pieces were large, it was slightly awkward to eat without any plates, and I was just catching the crumbs with my hand (didn't have the ramens at the time). Also got a yuzu beer to try and it was delicious, nice yuzu flavor with some tanginess. I had the shoyu with duck while my husband had the yama tonkotsu that came with fragrant black garlic oil. The tonkotsu is not one of those rich, milky, creamy ones and I personally like these lighter ones more. I also enjoyed the shoyu which had a pleasant depth of flavor, but it felt like it was relying too heavily on MSG for umami. Noodles came out chewy. Definitely not the best ramens I've had but are some of the better ones in LA. Our server was friendly, as were the rest of the staff. Service was quick. The restaurant decor feels straight out of Japan, an extra bit of fun. There's a $10 paid lot behind this block of buildings that's convenient for anything in this part of Little Tokyo.

We only tried the carbonara udon, but it was truly memorable. The sauce was creamy although a little split, but not overly salty which allowed the subtle umami and miso flavors to shine. The noodles were cooked well and had a gentle chew. The bacon was juicy with lots of fatty bits. Next time I would add an ontama to it to make it even better. The service was great and quick. We sat at the counter so could watch the noodles being made. This is definitely among the top 3 places I ate in JTown during this visit!

Marugame Monzo's sauce, however, is the opposite of Menchirashi's. The sauce is SUPER flavorful with a rich, creamy mouthfeel and a strong umami flavor from the bacon and miso. I added mentaiko since I did the same at Menchirashi and honestly, everything was fantastic. The udon itself is pretty much exactly like fresh udon in Japan. Perfectly bouncy, chewy, and satisfying. Staff were also wonderful and service was insanely fast. We probably waited less than 10 minutes for both our udon and tempura, and they consistently checked in to make sure everything was good. I can't wait to come back and try more of their menu, especially the uni cream udon. The only thing I didn't like was the shrimp tempura since it had a lot of batter and not a ton of shrimp, so it was on the greasy side. I did enjoy the soft boiled egg tempura though. The yolk exploded into the udon and somehow made the whole bowl even better hehe. There are plenty of tables inside with limited bar seating. If you're a 2 top you might be sharing a table real close with some neighbors (they put a divider). If there's a wait, write your name down on the clipboard outside!

I love making a stop when I visit LA…read more Stopped by a weekday lunch and it was so easy to park. The restaurant is clean and cozy and service was nice. Quick in and out lunch. Ordered the tonkatsu and tsukemen. Both delicious and the broth and flavor is rich and delicious. Next time I would probably order extra pork on the side.

PREMISE: I went to this location on a Wednesday evening at approximately 5PM for a party of two…read more WAIT TIME: We got seated right away! There was not anyone at the restaurant at the time, but people did start trickling in as more time elapsed. We got our food relatively quickly as well. FOOD: I ordered the spicy pork tsukemen ($23.45), which is their dipping noodle. The noodles are thicker than standard ramen, but in a good way! It comes with thick chashu (thick, fatty pork) slices and soft boiled eggs. If you haven't had tsukemen before, you essentially dip your noodles into the broth and then eat it that way. The broth is extremely flavorful and there are also pieces of chashu in it as well. The only critique that I have regarding this is the broth was lukewarm which made the dish taste slightly off. I've tried this dish at another branch and the broth was also lukewarm there, so I'm not sure if this is a location issue or a standard amongst all branches. Also, this dish does not really have any vegetables in this, but I also don't know if traditional tsukemen has veggies included. SERVICE: Service was quick and everyone was nice and doing their job. Didn't seem like the staff was slacking or messing around while there weren't many customers. They were very attentive to us, refilling our water immediately once they saw it was getting low, and being very attentive towards if we had any other concerns or if we needed anything else. PARKING: There technically is street parking but since it's in Little Tokyo, it's going to be very difficult to find it. There's $4-6 valet parking available nearby the location. There are a lot of people walking around though so just be safe. INTERIOR: It's not too big of a place but it's also not too small as well. It looks very well kept and clean. BATHROOM: Two gender neutral bathroom stalls that are both very clean and accessible. No issues here with them. TLDR: Overall, I thought the place was pretty good to eat at! I would definitely come back for the tsukemen (as long as the broth is warmed up until it's hot). A very good dish combined with great music (they have some great Japanese music variety) is definitely a spot worth coming to with friends !! :))
