The food was not great at this location. The chicken ramen was way too salty and wasn't enjoyable. The spicy tuna bowl was not that great either! The taste of the tuna seemed off and just tasted the spice and not enough flavor, it made me feel queasy when eating this dish which I never felt that way when I eat tuna and I love tuna. My boyfriend and I decided to try this spot after hearing great things about it. He really enjoyed his ramen (though I can't recall which one he ordered) and said the gyozas were also good. For me, the experience was more in-between, I didn't love it, but I didn't dislike it either. Since I don't eat meat, it can be tough to find a vegan ramen with rich flavor. That said, this spot offers one of the better vegan ramen options I've had when considering flavor, portion size, and price. We shared the seasoned egg, it was good, but nothing out of the ordinary. The highlight of the meal was definitely the creamy broccolini, which the waiter recommended, it was a 10/10 and absolutely amazing! I also tried the Impossible bun, which was good, but nothing particularly special. Overall, a solid spot, especially if you're looking for vegan ramen. I noticed they didn't add the mushrooms that I payed for in the order so I called to request a refund. They laughed at my request and put me on hold. No apology no attempt to correct the mistake. Then someone else got on the line took my information down and said that the manager would call me back to issue my refund. I never got a call back, and my bank statement was still charged for service/food I never received. I will not be coming back, the ramen here is not even great I was just sick and needed some broth and they made me feel awful for expecting a $2.20 refund that is my money and idc if it's .25 c if I didn't get it in my order I want my $ back. I'd avoid this entire chain if you can, customer service is awful, food isn't worth it, and they obviously don't value you as a customer. They have a parking lot that they share with a few other restaurants and there was ample parking on a Sunday at 12pm. I will say that though there were only a few of us in the restaurant a more than enough staff, they really only came by to take our order, deliver food, and give the check, so take that for what it is. At first, I was so excited that this location in Downey (previously Sansai Japanese Grill) was taken over by Silverlake Ramen. And then we ate there. It's fine for pick-up. For the most part, the food is good. (Except for the spicy tuna rolls. Don't order them. They look old and taste worse. Not only did our table not finish our order of it, but we noticed the table next to us left there's as well.) We usually order the veggie ramen which is vegan. The service, however, is just basic. We've patronized this place at least 10 times- solely for the ramen and the fact that it is the closest place to our house that has vegan ramen. The servers/hosts barely greet you with anything other than a, "How many?" They never smile. They hand you your menus and ask you if you want something to drink. They rarely refill your water if at all. They do serve you your food (which is the bare minimum you can ask of them), and then they seem to forget about you, until you have to hail them over to pay the check. Then they sometimes will do that awkward thing where they stand over you while you decide how much to tip them. And this last time that we also happened to make an additional to-go order after we were finished with our dine-in meal, we asked 2 times to have chili paste added; and when we got home, there was no chili paste. They had forgotten. And regarding ambiance, I would say it was more welcoming when it was a Sansai. It's not the type of place that makes you want to hang out and order more food and drinks. I love silverlake and i was soooo happy downey finally got one!! It was very clean and nice inside and we got welcomed and seated right away. I got my usual pork bowl (generous portion for a regular) and the spicy tuna crispy rice. My mom got the pork bun and she RAVED over it. The sauce was like a savory plum type, hard to describe but unique and delicious. Our food came out fast but no one came back to check on us and offer refills. OK so this is my third time coming here and I'm a little surprised that the servers (who are mostly young females ) have absolutely no personality and are not effective communicators, maybe I could chuck this down to the fact that they're 18 - 21 (or something similar) but not once did I get checked up on to ask how my meal was, or if I needed anything, there was also a hair that was on my table and I asked for it to be cleaned up and the server did clean it up but I had to ask for it and she didn't acknowledge or apologize for the fact there was a disgusting hair on my table while I was dining. I literally felt like I was talking to a wall when I asked for something they would bring it out but they would not acknowledge the fact that I asked for it nor did they say anything, i.e. I asked for hot sauce, she brought it to the table, no words spoken. I asked for a Coca-Cola to be brought my table, no words exchanged, I asked for the check - it was brought to my table no words exchanged, I still tipped over 20% even though the service was horrible, I asked for a receipt , again no words were exchanged - no 'thank you' or 'please come back' again. You go here for the food, the service is honestly somewhat miserable, or maybe I just come from a generation where people do exchange pleasantries, whatever it is times are definitely changing. The Shoyu on fire was FIRE . I ordered extra hot with extra egg. Serving size was large, always eat over two days. The fried gyoza is sooo good. Even picky eaters would enjoy that. The crispy rice tuna wasn't really my thing but still was addictive. Nice ambiance, modern look, modern music, you can order from self service but I like to pay with cash with the waitresses. I've been to this location before and never had a bad experience until two days ago. There's a 20 minute wait which is understandable. They seat us and then proceed to sit 4 other tables after us and take all of their orders. We sat there for 10-15 minutes and nobody asked us if we wanted anything to drink or "we will be right with you". I work at a restaurant and I understand good customer service, this place does not have it. I felt invisible and when we decided to leave the manager then decided to acknowledge me saying "thank you" in a condescending way. I will not be returning to this specific location. The vibes were chill and nice until we were served...The Ramen was mid and to top it off I found a hair in my soup on the side of the bowl so that was a big NO. Hair on food just give me the ickkkk.
