Our server was incredibly friendly and took the time to explain how everything worked since it was our first visit. We loved the build-your-own burrito bowl option because it made it easy to customize what we wanted. The prices were very reasonable, and my bowl turned out amazing. I added extra sauces, and it made it even more delicious. I also had to try their spiciest sauce on the side since I love spicy food and have a pretty high tolerance. As a spice lover, for once a sauce actually got me! It definitely packed some heat, but I still enjoyed every bite and was happy I gave it a try (although could not finish!!). Overall, we had a great experience from the food to the service, and I'd definitely come back the next time I'm visiting Grand Rapids. :)

El Jalapeno doesn't have a "regular" breakfast menu during the week (I heard an employee say they only have breakfast on the weekends), but I'll eat anything at breakfast time. I ordered a steak burrito which was about $12. There were a couple of picnic tables near the truck so I sat and waited for my food. I should have asked for it to go, as it came out on a paper plate, but I decided it would be best to eat at least part of it when it was hot and fresh anyway. The burrito was massive! I definitely could have split it with Nate, who went into the market to get a different breakfast option. I took half home for later. The steak was flavorful and seasoned well and the burrito was stuffed with lots of fillings; rice, lettuce, refried beans, tomato, sour cream, and a side of salsa. All the ingredients were fresh and delicious - I particularly liked the refried beans in the burrito, which was surprising for me, because usually I could go without. The employees were all super friendly and polite and the smells wafting out of the truck were mouth-watering! I would love to try more of their food in the future and look forward to visiting them again soon.

Ruth orchestrated an experience. I am now convinced she exists outside the normal laws of physics. I'm fairly certain she can hear when a tortilla is overcooked from three zip codes away. Before I even realized I wanted another drink, Ruth had already appeared beside the table like some kind of benevolent taco guardian. I blinked once and the salsa was refilled. I blinked twice and somehow my life had direction again. The food? Incredible. But honestly, I would've eaten drywall if Ruth recommended it. That's the level of trust she inspired. Scientists should study her efficiency. NASA should recruit her. The Olympics need a "Hospitality Decathlon" because she'd retire undefeated. If she ever decides to run for president, I don't care what her platform is. She has my vote. At one point I said, "This is probably the best taco I've ever had," and Ruth smiled with the calm confidence of someone who already knew that would happen six months ago.
