I tried the al pastor, mushroom, and spicy beef tacos. The food is fresh but the flavors were not quite for me. The mushroom was the best of the 3. I love al pastor but it just didn't have much flavor. Arriba is better for that. The cheeseburger quesadilla was good. I like the creamy sauce but not the ketchup. I liked the salsas, especially the tomato salsa. I dig the vibe, hip, with good music. It was a cool place to have some drinks and hang out. There is better Mexican food in the area though. The service is very friendly but, for me, an automatic gratuity comes with full service. I had to get up multiple times to get drinks and had to pay each time separately, not a relaxing experience. We were a group of 8 adults and 8 (!) large (but very well behaved) dogs looking for a place to eat with a dog friendly patio. We had gone down the street elsewhere, but seeing the conditions of the other place's downstairs and very dirty bathrooms, and hostile customer service, decided to walk here instead. Thank goodness we did! Nice outdoor patio -- our group sat in two separate sets of 4 based on tables available at the time. You can order inside at the counter or on their app and they bring it out to you. Service was very aimable. The actual menu is way more that is shown on the web site menu. I could write a sonnet about the Nashville Chicken Torta. It is literally the perfect sandwich and execution of what you want a sandwich to be. Incredibly filling, spicy and not too greasy. Great service with an incredible atmosphere. I loved the included gratuity as it eliminated any awkwardness with the machines. Why 4 and not 5? Thought the price was high for the food. They had their ribbon cutting event this month on Monday the 19th and officially opened their doors to the public that following Friday, September 23rd. My husband and I have been looking forward to trying their food since their mouth watering menu made an appearance on their website. My husband ordered a Arabes Verde Taco for $6 while I ordered their double cheese quesadilla for $12. While I agree these prices aren't exactly what some people would like to pay for what seems like "just a single taco". Well it's no simple taco and while it may not be sustainable to get food here every week, I would argue it's worth every penny you spend when you have the funds to spend on something different. I tried my husband's taco and let me tell you it was by far the best taco I can recall having. The quesadilla was also phenomenal and I would order it again in a heartbeat. Decor is interesting and unusual. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her chicken bao taco but was underwhelmed with her Al pastor taco. I ordered the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. The bread and toppings were very very tasty. However, the "star of the show" chicken was dry, perhaps overcooked,and the portion small. I think the chicken was thigh meat but for $16 I'd like more bird! I will certainly be back to try other menu items. Give it a try! read more

I just ate an Anemal for the first time. I am super full and ordered way too much. Ran into some friends on the way out. So that is always lovely to feel welcome and enjoy that familiarity. Everything was delicious. Maybe the queso with the empanadas needed a little salt &/or vinegar, but the dish over all was amazingly crunchy, cheesy & gooey? Maybe the corn dogs could have used a little hominy in the batter, but they tasted bright, fresh and exciting? I would never order a Nashville Hot chicken sandwich at a torta shop, but that is what the yong lady at the window suggested. So I ordered it and devoured that crispity crunchy goodness and continue to wonder why Nashville Hot chicken sandwiches are never that spicy. Maybe spending $80 on lunch is excessive, but that's on me? I asked for suggestion and took almost all of them. I'm a sucker for service and there isn't a whole lot of it at Anemal. So I took all the direction I could. The ice cream was my favorite. Super duper delicious and of the correct aesthetic for the theme of the restaurant. It would have been nice to have a dairy free option like a guava sorbet bar. I'll have to try other dishes next time. My pal Ava said to try the tuna tostadas. I would have ordered that, but the menu on the wall was a little tricky to discern and understand, pretty signage though, but also pretty hard to read, looking down to my knees to read all the items was kind of daunting (some readily available paper menus may help communicate the food & encourage takeout at the same time?) Also the drinks were not communicated very well either. It was a little peculiar to walk in and not know what to do or where to go. Like going for bbq in Nashville or anywhere down south for that matter. When walking in I always get confused as to how or where to start to enjoy the meal. Honestly all I can say is wow. This place really has it all. Friendly staff, eclectic building, phenomenal chefs, and an entirely fun take on already amazing food. Please do not sleep on this restaurant, you will definitely regret it. They have interesting takes on classic foods as well as specials of the day. Starting with curb appeal it is in a clean, lovely area with lots of businesses around it. Greeted at the door and self order is just inside. The menu is ingeniously simple with something for everyone- but not so much that it takes 20 minutes to decide. Then immediately seated in a comfortable area with some isolation from other tables. There is a bottle of chilled water on the table with glasses for self serve on our seating. Our server was prompt, polite and fun. Dress is casual and the cooking area is open and entertaining. We could not have asked for anything to be different, it was wonderful. Then the food came. The burrito bowl was a festival of flavor. We tasted each others food bc everyone wanted to impress the great flavors of their own dish in everyone else. The kids were served quesadillas in adorable dinosaur holders. We enjoyed the atmosphere and food completely. There were no delays in the coming or going pieces of lunch. We highly recommend this restaurant. perfectly wonderful meal. The layout is perfect for summer time beach vibes. Laid back with music playing, open garage doors allow for a nice breeze and the decor is not fussy but fitting for the setting. There are a lot of seats here and I'm happy to see a good bit outside. As far as the food, wow. I tried a fish and chips taco that was out of this world. Another that I honestly can't recall (a special) that was also killer. We got a cheeseburger quesadilla that sounded good on the menu. It was an interesting spin on a classic and probably enough of a meal by itself. My wife got totchos and, you guessed it, knocked it out the park. Kid friendly menu was thoughtful. Our daughter enjoyed the taco and chips (and nibbled our food as well). This is a fantastic place and I will happily be back time and time again until I've tried everything on the menu. A very nice addition to Benton Harbor and I love the fast casual concept making it an easy place to grab some good bites. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed their upscale tacos. My hands down favorite was the chicken katsu boa taco. That was the tastiest boa I believe I have ever had and I will certainly be back for this (though I'm not sure I would consider it a taco). I give this taco 5 stars! The other tacos I tried were also good with the only suggestion being a request for them to offer options for the tortillas (maybe a good flour tortilla option?) as the corn tortillas didn't quite cut it for me. Tried for the first time today and it was takeout! This is why I'm reviewing it so high because usually restaurant takeout is lower quality then when you eat it at the restaurant. Overall I paid $34 and some change and they included tip when they were checking me out even though that it was takeout which I found sort of strange but thought past it. I thought the pricing was good for the amount of food I got and it was good quality. - The tuna tostada was my least favorites thing since it needed less guacamole and more texture in every bite. Good flavor but tuna needed to be marinated more. - Chicken Katsu Bao bun was delicious but I could go with a fluffier bun. - The Bang Bang Shrimp Taco was FIRE. Like I could eat 30 of those. The slaw that they added was the perfect crunch and freshness that I needed in my bite. I also got a Jarritos. I would come back but JUST for the shrimp taco and the bao bun.
