I'm always going to keep it real -- and I do like this place. It's family-run, and you can feel that in the vibe and service. This was my second visit, and once again, the owner was incredibly kind and welcoming. That said, it was a busy Friday night, so keep that in mind. We had a 7:15 reservation and were seated in the back corner near a couple of large parties -- same spot I was placed last time, which is kind of a bummer because the bar area looked way more fun and lively. It took about 30 minutes to get our drinks, and then our food came out almost immediately after, which made the pacing feel a bit off. Our server was hustling, but strangely didn't seem to have a ton of tables. That said, the staff was friendly, the margarita flight was a great value, and the tacos hit the spot for a snacky dinner. The overall atmosphere is super cute and chill. I landed on 3.5/5 stars -- there's definitely room for redemption. The server did mention they have a weekday happy hour, and that might be the move to really get the best experience here. I'll give it another shot!
Love this Michigan Ave restaurant! The ambiance is beautiful, especially their outdoor dining area. So great! The food is good, on a previous visit I had 2 Al Pastor and 1 Asanda taco - yum! Tonight I had 2 birria tacos with rice and beans. It was very tasty. The tacos were just a little dry, even with their cosumé but the flavor was delicious. We enjoyed a nice dinner with our family. Nice work Borracho, keep it up!
We've been to Taco Borracho several times now, including twice for brunch, so I figured I should update my review. The brunch menu is small but offers several savory options, which is great for me as I love a savory brunch. As of April 2023, the only real sweet brunch option was brioche French toast. I love chilaquiles, so I usually order it if it's available. Taco Borracho's version is really good! I loved the sauciness of the dish even though the eggs were more like over-hard rather than over easy. The avocado is a nice addition to this dish, and it was a big portion that was very filling. On our most recent brunch visit, I got the steak and eggs which was really tasty. The meat is cut thin (skirt steak), but it was tender and very flavorful. The potatoes were slightly bland but I added some hot sauce which helped. I really liked this take on a favorite brunch dish. It was again a large portion that kept me full the rest of the day. They have several brunch appropriate cocktails and everyone liked their mimosas. If you're with a bigger group, they have an 88 ounce mimosa tower that would be great for sharing! The patio wasn't open yet in late April but it's a nice enclosed space that is perfect for warmer weather.
I was starving and wanted something local that wasn't a chain, and I happened to find this place not far from where I was staying. (like 6 miles away.) I stumbled in, sat at the bar and reviewed the menu. Most stuff's here's a la carte, but you can add rice and beans for a few extra bucks to your food. The taco selection's fantastic, as they have chicken, beef, pork and even vegetarian ones as well. They have other food as well, but I was in it for tacos, so there's that. This place is actually pretty hip. The weather was super nice and they had the patio open and it was really nice. The other half of the bar sits literally outside, so you can enjoy the weather without getting blasted by the sun or change of weather. Parking here absolutely SUCKS. Like bad. There's a very tight parking lot and only a handful of spaces. I had to drive around for a good 5 minutes and ended up parking in a lot across the street not to terribly far away. Tow away signs everywhere, and kind of made me almost go somewhere else. My one sore point? Even though there seemed to be ample staff working, the service here was slow to the point I felt ignored. There was a few times my server blatantly walked by me, didn't make any eye contact or respond. Was she trying to be rude on purpose? No, but it was hard to get literally anyone's attention. Lot's of waiting on my end, and it was kind of a turn off. There was a few times she was literally two feet from me and I needed a drink refill (and eventually my bill) and no matter how many times I said "ma'am excuse me" she didn't look up once or help. I know she was busy but there was also other servers who seemed to busy to check in on people for much of anything. I just wish the staff would check in more often with the guests then worry about other stuff. Like I said, the staff here's nice and such, but they were to busy stocking the bar, disappearing endlessly for long stretches of time, whatever. There were a few girls sitting across from me who seemed to have the same issue at the bar and I just don't get it. Wait on your tables! Anyway, I will probably return but with a lot more patience next time, as this seems to be a really fun and hip spot to hang out at, especially in the summer.

I know that soft opens always have a lot of kinks to work out, but given there are so many taco spots in GR now, I haven't gone back. However, after a year, I wanted to try it out! I'm happy that I did. A couple things to note: 1) Parking in the rear is available and free, though it can be a little tough to snag, so street parking is your other option. 2) It was 90+ degrees outside and the restaurant is open air. I did appreciate the patio and the garage doors being open, but I would recommend investing in a few more fans to move the air around. It definitely got a little warm at times. 3) The music was pretty loud, while a certain vibe, not necessarily something I was looking for at like 5pm on a Tuesday. I liked the decor though and the neon signs were super cute. Very trendy touch. We ordered the chips, queso and salsa to share. I really liked the queso but the salsa was a bit lacklustre for me. I felt like there wasn't enough flavor or heat, that I like in a salsa. The chips and queso though, definitely worth getting and I would order that again! I'll pass on the salsa. I also appreciated that we went during happy hour so the tacos I ordered (al pastor and carne asada) were $1.50 off each! Both delicious and the salsa verde? So good. The depth of the flavoring was what I was hoping for in the roja. Our server was really kind and attentive, I'd definitely come back again and try new things! I just prefer restaurants where I don't have to yell to hear the person I'm sitting across, but it's a certain vibe. So if you know that going in, it's not so bad.
We were really in the mood for tacos and were more than satisfied with our meal here last night:)! Walking in we noticed right away what a fun vibe the interior had with several neon lights and cool velvet and leather textures. We were seated immediately and given waters and menus. I was excited about all the taco choices there were and had to narrow it down to three for myself to try. For appetizers we ordered the chips and guac which was delicious and fresh! And also the tostones! Served with mayochip and that was crispy and something different for me and I enjoyed it. The tacos were SO SO SO good! I ordered the Papas taco which had potatoes, cabbage slaw, cilantro, & onions on a crispy corn tortilla and I already wanna go back just for this taco alone. Yum! I also ordered the Impossible taco because I enjoy trying the vegetarian/vegan options when I can and it was definitely very good with plant based meat, daiya cheese, green pepper, cilantro, & onions on a corn tortilla. Last but not least I ordered the Pescado Taco, which had breaded fish, cabbage slaw, house made chipotle sauce & onions on a flour tortilla. I love fish tacos and this one was especially delicious. My friend loved her tacos and she ordered the steak, chicken, & pork! For dessert, we were told the churros were good and boy were they right!!! I love to try churros at almost any taco place I'm at and not to be dramatic or anything but these are some of the best churros I've had in a very long time. Wow! So crispy and delicious on the outside but soft and gooey on the inside. They came with 3 large churros and caramel, chocolate, and whipped cream for dips! Just a really wonderful experience overall! Loved the atmosphere, every single food item we ordered, and the service! Will definitely recommend to anyone and everyone and come again and again.:):)
3.5 star. Just fine. Wasn't overly wowed but it's not bad. I had the huevos tacos which were very good. I added on rice and beans for $7 which is a bit of a rip off since it's not a big portion. The refried beans also tasted rather salty. Other people in my group had a burrito and some other tacos and the elote. I've only ever seen elote served in dishes and it was cool to see it actually on the cob, which the person said it was good but overly seasoned. The decor is cool and I love all the neon signs. We sat at the front bar area so we didn't get to see much of the place. Music is a little loud for my preference and also the margarita blender is loud AF that you can hear it over the loud music. The poor bartenders that use it must be going deaf! Service was fine. They have a small parking lot in back but you're better off parking just down the road in a different lot.
If you enjoy tacos, live music, and friendly service - have I got the place for you! Taco Borracho serves up a good variety of menu items offering items with a Puerto Rican flair that provides a slightly different offering than a typical taco joint. And don't skip the dessert - I was too full for the tres leches cake, but the half churro dipped in caramel sauce was the perfect nightcap to a wonderful night out with family. We will definitely be back!
My Mexican pizza was t the greatest but the other food and drinks were good. Service was great also. Pizza was soaked, wasn't what I expected. Otherwise nice place, parking not so great
They really need to get their stuff together - nothing about this place makes me want to come back again. Food and drinks were mediocre. Drinks take FOREVER to come out, I don't get it. Atmosphere and decor, plus patio were cool. But being right on Michigan St is loud! The servers are frazzled as can be, and it seems like no one knows what they are doing.

Fun spot for 21st birthday! They were able to accommodate a reservation for 25 & had a nice sized space for us. In addition to us, the place was full. Our server EnzI still provided great service. He was so happy & kind the entire time. The food was good & we enjoyed the cocktails & margarita pitchers as well! read more

This Mexican food was delicious I'm visiting from Los Angeles and stopped for tacos and a beer just to check it out and they did not disappoint at all the birria tacos and the conzome was fire. Sooooo Good my Mexican belly was satisfied big time. Amber the waitress and the bartender Roby HAVE THEE best customer service and this is coming from a bar manager of 17yrs. Great job on hiring these guys!!!!! I just ordered a burrito to go that's how good it is!!!! read more

This up beat taqueria is alive! The food was wonderful and the Hibiscus Margarita was beyond delightful! We sat at the bar and had excellent service from two bartenders who did their jobs well! The ambiance is upbeat and fun! Definitely at must try! read more

We were super fortunate to visit Taco Borracho during their soft open. I've been kind of obsessively following their progress on Instagram, so when I saw they were doing a soft open I knew we needed to make it happen! We started knowing we would have a party of 3, and fortunately we were seated at a pretty large table in the dining side since we ended up with a party of 6! Our server was very sweet, and didn't seem too overwhelmed by us, thankfully. We ordered our drinks, and took some time looking over the menu. I had a beer and the other girls had cocktails. We were also gifted a frozen daquiri the bar made by mistake and it was DELICIOUS! I would 100% order one of these next time (which is a big deal, since I pretty much always stick to beer). While we were deciding on food we ordered chips & salsa with queso. It was all very good! The chips were not as greasy as some other Mexican places in town, which was great! For my meal I ordered a Camarones con Chorizo Taco and an Al Pastor Taco. They were both great! I don't think I've ever combined shrimp and chorizo, but it really worked! I also appreciate the double layer corn tortilla to keep everything together. I hate when tacos are too fragile and fall apart everywhere. For being the soft open, and knowing there were some hiccups after the grand opening I think it went really well! The only issue we had was that it took a really long time to get our tabs since there was an issue with the POS system. Not a huge deal at all. The server was very sweet, all the other staff we encountered were wonderful as well, the food was delicious, the drinks were amazing, and I really like the ambience. I can't wait to go back and try out the bar side or the outdoor patio! read more
I wanted to wait a month or two after Taco Boraccho opened to try it out and let them work out the opening kinks. Came in on a Saturday around noon and it was pretty dead. The couple girls working the bar were very friendly and provided great service, but the tacos I ordered left a little to be desired. The prices are pretty reasonable (except charging $6 for chips and salsa when nearly every Mexican restaurant provides this for free), but I guess you get what you pay for in this instance. Overall, it wasn't bad, but for the same prices, and better food, I would easily go to Condado instead...I still want to try Barrio Taco downtown which seems like it might be a good competitor against Condado. Maybe Taco Borrqcho will step up it's game in the future. P.s. they sell these margarita towers that I saw a table near us get...it's kinda tacky and looks like it gets super watered down and/or the liquids separate and settle while you're waiting to dispense more from it....pitchers would probably be a better option for mass consumption of margarita haha read more

This place is going to be great, but I think they are still working out a few of the kinks. I got a couple of tacos (they have great vegetarian options) and some chips and salsa. The tacos are great, good flavors and texture in them. The slaw that comes on the potato taco absolutely delicious. My tacos came out moments after I ordered them, like honestly less than five minutes despite a pretty busy patio. They were hot and delicious. They are pretty reasonably priced too! 4-6 dollars per taco, and they are pretty big! Two tacos is plenty for me. A couple of logistics things that were weird - it took the host several minutes to decide which table to seat us at, the server (Kay was WONDERFUL) seemed pretty busy while other folks seemed to be sitting down without something to do. Despite a few bumps, the food was terrific. Definitely a place worth checking out. read more

How exciting this location opened in the corner of Michigan St. and Eastern Ave. (There is parking in the back, FYI). I came here with family for a quick lunch during the week to get a feel of the restaurant and taste the food. It's great seeing a Latino owned business opening up with such an innovative design for this space compared to what it was originally intended to be (Car wash). Also, you can definitely see the Chicago style with the great taste and seed of possibilities for the future like potential brunch and soon to have greenhouse for fresh ingredients. Although we are not alcohol drinkers, it was still a very nice experience enjoying good quality tacos. I loved the chicken tacos and the salsa verde. If I had to give one note, it would be to invest in salsa containers that can be reusable. The plastic ones will add up quickly and they take away from the rest of the aesthetic of the presentation. Overall, highly recommend if you would like a nice place to enjoy tacos with your loved ones :) read more
I finally made it out to Taco Boraccho and really enjoyed the ambiance. My table of four agreed that the outside patio and chips + salsa were definitely worth coming back for. Our server was very pleasant and happy to make menu accommodations. She also came back wearing a pride sticker that we gave her which was cute and a nice gesture. The food in general was not bad, but also not something to write home about. Our favorite part was definitely the chips and salsa. The guac was also good. I read previous reviews where the salsa seemed out of a bottle, so I think they've updated that. The server also told us that they make it in house and our table really enjoyed it. The taco shells are deep fried and a bit oily?? and I didn't see anywhere on the menu where there was an option otherwise, but also no disclosure of them being fried either. The flavors and ingredients were tasty enough though! The margs were good, and strong. This is a great place to hang with friends on the outside patio for a couple drinks and snacks. The layout of the restaurant is unique for Grand Rapids, there's a huge bar in the middle and half of it is outside, half is inside. It makes for a nice change of pace and is worth checking out! read more

This place has an awesome outdoor patio for seating. Menu was quite extensive. Tortas, tacos, Mexican pizza, Mexican nachos, tostones, chips and queso. My friend and I shared the queso that was good with a slight kick. I had the fish taco and asada taco that were delicious. The mojito was really good. Definitely will come back again. Service was great too. read more

Edit: Came back after a few months with friends and I'm upping my star rating. The ambiance was great, apps again were amazing, and this time instead of getting tacos I got the Puerto African sandwich and it was amazing, definitely coming back for it. Service was also much better this time. read more

Disappointing. I was really excited to try this place! My boyfriend lives down the street and we were hoping for a new regular taco spot. I'll start with saying the hostess, and who I assume to be an owner/manager (based on her age) were very sweet and welcoming! (hence the 2 star rather than 1) We arrived at 8pm on a Friday night and were sat very quickly. Great vibe, indoor and outdoor seating, big garage doors, making it feel very open and aired out, good music! After seating- we waited 25 minutes for a server to approach us/introduce/ tell us she'll be with us in a minute, sadly 25 minutes for that to happen. She greeted us quickly and rushed to grab us waters, she asked how long we waited and I told her 25 minutes, she comped us a chips and queso! great, i was started to get a little annoyed/hangry! Our server seemed high or drunk, very out of reality, working at a tequila restaurant and having a few drinks is normal, I get it, I would too, but having it effect the service as much as it did, she over did it and lost money because of it. We placed our order, we were very happy. We got our drinks 15 minutes later, brought by another server. To be frank, gross. I got the prickly pear margarita ($13) and my boyfriend had the blood orange ($12), his was better, a bit more balanced. The prickly pear was sad, table salted rip, tasted blatantly of margarita mix, I did not get the fresh lime juice and simple on the menu whatever, I drank it anyways. When first placing our food order they were out of a few items--to be expected, they're new and it's was fairly late. They were out of the patas taco and the elote. So, we ordered the plantains appetizer, a pollo, el pastor and carne asada tacos. Pretty quick, 25 minutes from ordering. We were given our tacos by yet another server, Tacos were pretty good, not $5 good but pretty good. After another 25 minutes our server came back, asked if we were ready for the check, I told her we had also ordered plantains but at this point we're ready to go, and she comped them from our check. So, love that we got free queso and glad she comped our app since we never got it, but it was much to be desired. To draw this to a summarized conclusion, If you're in the mood for tacos: hit up your local/neighborhood real deal Mexican taco shop for some take out, pick up some modelo or make your own fresh lime margaritas. I get that they just opened but you should've had months if not years to work on your recipe. First the good. The location is cool, atmosphere was bumpin when I came in, drinks were flowing, this is a place to be. Now the food? I expected a lot more for a $5 taco. These were definitely not chef driven tacos. Literally can buy a $1.50 taco around town and be on par beat these. The tortillas weren't even warmed, grilled, who knows. Meats? Bland, greasy, salad shrimp? They had only one salsa which was the same salsa that came with the chips order. You are a taqueria, cmon. The side salad and Puerto Rican rice for $7, your better off just ordering another taco but then again, the tacos are lacking. I will definitely give this place a try again. Came here on a Friday night with friends around 6pm - we did have someone get here earlier as we knew it was going to be busy and they do not take reservations or a "Get in Line" option. We were able to snag a table pretty easily but it definitely got busier later on and there was a wait. They did a great job with the remodel of the previous car wash - it so cute and well decorated! Small inside with as much seating as they can get in there (not many large table options, unless you combine smaller tables) and a fun patio with different seating options - high tops, couches, etc. They have a very small parking lot right in back or you can part across the street behind the Metro PCS or on the street. Overall our experience was okay. To start the music was SO loud - I feel so old saying that but honestly, we had to talk super loud to be hear over the music. It took a long time to order rounds of drinks throughout the meal - usually our glasses had sat empty for a while before we were able to reorder. As far as the margaritas go - they were blah. I ordered a skinny jalapeno margarita to start and it was so underwhelming I ordered it as it is off the menu to see if it was any better.. it was not. Food wise things were a little better - but fair warning the menu is VERY small. The chips were really good, one batch was saltier than the other. The salsa, guacamole and queso were all very good. I ordered three tacos - Camarones con Chorizo, Chorizo con Huevos and the El Pastor. They were all just okay. All the meat seemed dry and the chorizo did not have much of a kick - I was hoping for some spicy chorizo. The egg on the Chorizo con Huevos was overcooked - they did not ask how you wanted it cook but I assumed the yoke would be runny. I ended up leaving two half eaten. because I was getting full and non were worth stuffing myself over. The service was just okay - like I said before it took a while to reorder drinks and to order food, etc. I will probably try again, maybe not on a busy Friday night! read more
