This place is the definition of authentic and delicious. We stopped by to grab some empanadas to take home and it was the perfect easy dinner. We ordered 2 cheese, 2 chicken, and 2 beef. They are pretty big but we wanted extras to heat up the next day. We thought they were all delicious with beef being my favorite and chicken being my wife's favorite. We heated a couple more up the next day for lunch and they were just as great. Definitely recommend stopping by! read more

This review is only for the empanadas and potato balls, since that's all I got to go today. Don't worry, I'll review the other food after I get it! I just moved into a new office building so I've been looking for places to grab a quick lunch in the area. I noticed Sabor Latino, a little building on Grandville when I was driving back from Tacos el Cunado the other day. Google told me they have empanadas for $1.25 each so I knew I would be trying it soon! There was only one other person in the shop when I stopped by. I picked up two empanadas (one chicken, one beef) and one potato ball (mashed potato stuffed with ground beef and deep fried.) The total? $3.19 or something. I split the food with my boyfriend for a small lunch and it was the perfect amount of food! You can't beat $1.50ish per person for lunch! They do have other more substantial meat dishes and fried plantains. I definitely want to check that out next time. The empanadas were warm and the chicken was delicious! The beef was a bit dry, but with a little hot sauce they were fine. The potato ball was pretty tasty! I would absolutely go back just for more empanadas. I wish they had more varieties, but I'm not complaining! They do have very limited seating (maybe one table and two chairs) inside, so it's mostly takeout. They accept credit cards too! read more

Called to place an order for beef empanadas and Puerto Rican rice. The lady doesn't take my name just says come on come on. So I come on. I get there wait mad long she ask what I want I said 4 beef empanadas and Puerto Rican rice. Pay for my order get home and it's dry ass chicken empanadas. Who TF eats chicken empanadas. Not me. So I go back only for her to tell me they sold out of beef empanadas. So when I called you couldn't say that or when I came in to order you couldn't tell me. Instead you just give me chicken. Never going here again don't matter if y'all food is great ya service sucks. Waste of gas and money. read more

Went for a short drive to check out Sabor Latino and unfortunately was not pleased. It's disappointing when you are craving tostones and maduros and your heart gets broken when you're told "sorry were closing soon and we're not turning on the fryer" wow.... My daughter and I opted for the dinner portion of braised chicken, white rice and beans. It was decent, a little too salty for my taste. The portion size was huge! Enough for two or even four. We also ordered chicken and beef empanada. The beef empanadas were quite dry. There was a sweet and savory component, but it wasn't executed properly. The dough of the empanadas were really thick and sweet. The chicken empanada was very dry. The chicken was bland and was seasonsed with some yellow stuff. I was happy to see they had Jupiña and Malta for sale. The women who attended us said I had to come earlier so I can try their steak and maduros. Would I return? I believe in second chances, but I'd have to be in the area and in the mood for Latin food. read more

When I moved to MI I didn't think I'd have to give up Puerto Rican cuisine. Until I found this diamond in the rough, I was convinced I had. The papa rellena was a tad bit over, but you could tell the flavors were there. The customer service was fantastic. The bistec was amazingly flavorful and tender. I wish it had expanded hours, sometimes when I get away to Grand Rapids I don't get to eat until much later in the day. The empanadas are huge and flaky and I have missed this stuff soooo much. Went in there placed an order and had her charge me for what I ordered. I get my order and I see that I'm missing two items, so I go back and let her know. She proceeds to tell me that she never charged me for those even though that's what I ordered, then she also lets me know that she initially charged me less than what it should've been. So now she wants to charge me for the two missing items plus the difference from the first transaction. Horrible experience. read more

This was my first visit to this restaurant and I had the chicken with yellow rice, potato balls, and empanadas. It was delicious! My daughter had the steak with yellow rice and plantains and that was delicious as well. I do recommended this restaurant. The wait time for the food was only 10 minuets and the service was great. Love the food. Lady at front is incredibly rude!! I called to place an order and was told 20 minutes. So I get there in about 25 mins. She tells me 20 minutes for my food. I told her I called already. She rolled her eyes at me and went in the back. She handed me my card and said it's not ready. I left she was by far the most rude person I had ever come across as someone I was trying to give business to. Surprised she could be that mean to someone who was pregnant (40 weeks). read more

If you've ever had Dominican food then you know that it is full of flavor. This place rocks. They have tostones, fritos, bistec, empanada, morir sonando, jugo de chinola, pollo al orno and much more. The owners are from Dominican Republic and Cuba. The food is for take out and you get a considerable portion. Small menu in english/spanish. There is only a small area to sit but its supposed to be for take out. If you like to try out ethnic food, you should check out this place. $12 would serve about 2 people. read more

If you are looking for authentic Caribbean food this is the place to go! Coming from Miami where there is lots of Cuban and Dominican food, this is as close as you can get in Michigan! Its affordable and cheap, I recommend the rice with gandules(beans), steak chicken (pollo guisado), and tostones(fried plantains)! read more

This is a little "hole in the wall" that will bless your palate! The Dominican bistec (flank steak) with the grilled onions is to die for, mix them with some tostones (fried plantains) and rice and you'll need a "siesta" afterwards. This take-out place is legit; Dominican and Cuban cuisine with lost of flavor! The owner makes the best empanadas de pollo and she adds a special green salsa that takes the flavor of the warm chicken mix of the empanada to a whole different level. The pollo al horno? Please try it right there, on top of some arroz with frijoles dominicanos and some sweet plantains, you will not be disappointed! The only things that I do not like much is that the white rice is long grain, I prefer medium grain, and that the Alcapurrias could be thinner, but the flavor is still very good. I did not go to this restaurant. I was at a fund raiser that they catered. The chicken leg quarter was as dry as a bone, the rice was ok, beans were ok, salad that had carrots and cabbage, was so dry and no flavor, I was expecting spice and it was blah, the vegetables were mush, they were spicy, way over cooked. All of the people at my table were unimpressed with the food, the coffee and cake were good, not sure who made both of those items. read more

I love Sabor Latino as it is my spot for Dominican food in GR. The staff is super friendly and I appreciate that! The amount of delicious food you get for the money is an unparalleled value! I love the steak or chicken with yellow rice and guandules. The pollo empanadas are the flame as is the green salsa they will provide upon request. They have champagne cola as well which is great if you want to be a diabetic but all joking aside it is super flavorful!
