Honest people doing honest work. Held my car overnight for diagnosis and they didn't charge a dime for it. Had spark plugs and coils changed and they were really quick with it. read more

Do yourself a favor and COME TO THIS GUY'S SHOP. The owner (I presume) is Chao. His honesty and good work saved my mom from $8000 of repairs - and all it took was $200. Also, Longo Toyota can go to hell. Quick story: Mom's Lexus battery was replaced by AAA, but something happened and the engine bay started smoking. Took it to her dealership, Longo Toyota, and was told the coolant leaked into the engine (??) something like that. The total repairs would cost $8k. Absolutely insane. Wanted a second opinion and folks on Reddit recommended this auto shop. Had the car towed here and Chao inspected the damages. He replaced something that only took 2 hours and a $125 part, and the car was totally fixed. In total, he charged us $200. Chao knew we weren't knowledgeable about cars yet was super honest with the repair. I now trust him 100% with all of my future car problems. Chao - if you read these reviews, just want you to know that you are amazing! read more

I'd never go anywhere else. This is a stand up honest guy. And his work is quality. A great mechanic. Great value.

Came here last min for an oil change and I definitely recommend coming here. They take walk in and the pricing is reasonable.

Great service, good communication, good prices. I am a loyal customer and they work on almost all car brands.

Bought a used Camry for one of my sons. After driving a while, the check engine light came on. Took the vehicle to another shop; they changed a small hose, reset the light, but the check engine light came back on after driving several miles. I decided to take it to Silver Star instead upon a referral from a friend. Chau is a master mechanic and explained in detail what the codes could mean and all the parts that could be affected that may need replacement. He kept the car a couple days to thoroughly inspect all the areas based on the codes that may cause the check engine light to come on. Chau was honest and said the previous owner must have taken this vehicle to another shop because upon inspection, he could see that those parts are new and have all ready been replaced. The only thing they missed was a burnt wire and connector. A dishonest mechanic would have changed everything(or claim to have changed the parts) and would have charged the unsuspecting customer. Thank you Chau for your good work and honesty. I will be bringing any future needs I may have for my vehicles back here. read more

Just want to say Chau at Silver Star is the best mechanic in town. He's fair, thorough, dependable extremely knowledgable. Started taking my 98 jeep cherokee to him when it had about 280k miles and it now has 622k miles. I must say it is because of him my car has lasted this long and still going strong. Gonna reach a million miles ! And a million thanks foe keeping my car running strong ! read more

There's a reason this place has good ratings. Chao provided great service, kept good communication, and attention to detail. He made sure we understood the issue with the car and offered options for future issues. This shop seems busy, which shows how good a service they provide. Impeccable services. Chau and his team are exceptional and knowledgeable. Their prices are great and very honest. In the past, I've always taken my vehicle and family's vehicles to auto shops in Rosemead, San Gabriel, or the northern side of El Monte. Never will I go to those places again as they keep chopping me up on their overpriced and underwhelmed work. I was actually recommended by a friend here back in 2018 to get my old Acura ILX worked up- mainly oil change, tire rotations, battery, etc. So I've been their customer since 2018. I've brought in a Toyota Tundra to have them repair body damages, and they were able to take care of it promptly by replacing it, and the paint job is just magnificent...think it costed about $1100ish. Other places would've slapped on some whacked unnecessary replacements and take their sweet time and charge like $3k-$4k cuz they claim insurance and all that random bs stuff. I've also brought my mother's minivan to get its maintenance and change the window-- they were able to take care of me on that. They've never let me down. They don't fix things that don't look broken and will educate you why-- and if your car has warranty (and they know), they will always tell you to take it to the dealership first to have them take care of it, otherwise, bring it back here. Languages- Chau speaks vietnamese, cantonese, and english. The other guy (Alex?) speaks Spanish and English. And there's another mechanic he speaks Vietnamese and just light English. All of them have helped me, so they are all AMAZING. They open on Saturdays in the morning. Otherwise, they're a regular 9-5 on weekdays. Call them in advance just in case if you have big problems like major car repair, dashboard lights go haywire, etc. For little stuff like oil change, tire rotations, batteries, wipers, etc...just bring it in. Chau and Silver Star Auto, always looking out for their customers. Thank you for your excellent work...this review was long overdue. read more

After looking through Yelp for reliable mechanic ships around the area, I came across Chau! For real, right when I called him and told him about all the findings that the Nissan dealership has told me. He was so honest and told me that some of the findings were not true, especially since my car had only 30k miles. He told me to just drop by whenever I wanted and he'll take a look at it. This Saturday afternoon, an hour and a half before he closed, I called him to see if I could come in and he was more than welcoming. I got to his shop by 1:30pm and was out of there by 2:15pm! He checked on his computer about the transmission fluid and brake fluid that Nissan had told me to get fixed, and he said that based on my model and year, I wouldn't need to replace either. He did install a new in cabin and engine air filter but he charged so much less than Nissan and did it very quickly too! Thank you Chau, can't wait to come back for any services that my car will need in the future! read more

Quick and friendly service. Price is unbeatable. Highly recommend this auto shop. All mechanics are honest.

Honest and great mechanics, took my Jeep in for what I thought was a blown head gasket ($2,800+ for repair) because I was told by another mechanic elsewhere that was my issue and why I was overheating. The owner of the shop told me he thinks it could be my water pump which is a significantly less costly repair. They replaced my water pump and my Jeep has been running perfectly since. This is my second time using this shop for my jeep repairs and they do great work and have the best prices around! read more

I came here a few times since my mom's car has some issues. The manager speaks both Vietnamese and English which is very helpful in a lot of cases. He always tries to find replacement parts at the lowest price so that he can pass those savings onto you which is respectable. Overall a pretty cool dude lol read more

Chau is a saint. Above and beyond. The most honest person/mechanic I've ever known. Thus why I've been coming for years. Literally just saved me over $500.00 today. I went to a different shop(stupid), and was recommended a whole new AC compressor. To save money I ordered the part from RockAuto, I got it, went back to the shop, and they didn't have time to install it. A week goes by, and I think...let me ask Chau(that should have been my first thought) to install it. He's like...there's nothing wrong with your compressor(all tested right in front of me, totally transparent), send that part back and get your money. You have a leak, could be a hose. Needless to say, 2 rubber seals, and a recharge, and I was done. Sending the part back today. Chau is the real deal, a hero IMO. :) Chau, I cant thank you enough! Be safe brother! read more

I had my axle repaired. When I took it home it made a noise, I took it back and they didn't want to look at it. After waiting for three hours they asked me to come back the next day. They never fixed it. The owner was also very rude. read more

What is the most important trait in a mechanic? Honesty. Besides being very fairly price Chau is the most honest mechanic ever. First of all, 50 bucks for a full-synthetic oil change? Hell yeah 2nd, 10 dollars for a tire rotation? Yeah!! I asked him about a spark plugs change, and he was like , naaaaaaah you probably don't need that at 60k. He also showed me how much it was cost - 300 for labor just it self and 24 per sparkplugs (I have 4). This would be around 400 (which is much cheaper than everywhere else that quoted me averaging 750) Turns out, the spark plugs is part of the 60k service maintenance; but at least I know if I take it to Chao to handle, its gonna be cheaper here than anywhere else. 1. Honest 2. Keeps cash in your wallet what else do you need? read more

I went in for an oil change and wanted to check to see if I had a leak or burning of oil. They did the oil change and visual check with no additional charge. They also rotated the tires without me requesting it. It was extra service that I wasn't expecting. I would definitely come back to do any work on my car again. They really are a 5 star establishment. I went to another place in the nearby area and they were not quite as nice as these guys. It's hard finding an honest mechanic but they were great! read more

Best mechanic around town me and my family been going to Chow for years ! I always highly recommend him.

This review is long overdue because I sing nothing but praises for Silver Star Auto Repair. My family and I have been coming here, bringing over 6 different vehicles for service for over 5 years. We trust him. We love how fast, reliable, and courteous Chau and his staff have been. I live in Downtown LA, so it's a bit far for me to come all the way to Rosemead, but the service here is worth the drive. I also appreciate that he teaches me about basic car maintenance without making me feel inept. I come out with peace of mind, money saved, and a nice education on car maintenance. Chau is an honest and good man, and you and your vehicle will be in good hands. I will continue to bring my car here so long as I live in Los Angeles. Thanks, Chau! read more

Just got my oil changed here... $45 for a regular conventional oil change seems to be way too expensive. They also don't give you a proper receipt (work done, oil added etc). The receipt was just a small piece of paper with the amount paid on it. I'm not sure where all these good reviews come from. The work may be good (I don't know), but definitely not a good value. read more

Our family went here for 10+ years and for multiple cars. Chao and his team are the most honest mechanics we have ever known. We trusted them with our cars and were always given reasonable quotes. Auto repair here is reliable and well done, we have never had any problems. Sadly we moved out of state but I still very much appreciate doing business here and always recommend this shop to family in the San Gabriel valley. read more

Heard great things that prices are reasonable.

Dishonest and a rip off. I brought my Lexus in because of a cylinder misfiring, and upfront the owner told me that it was going to cost $2,200 because of a cylinder head and $250 to do an inspection. Tony's Auto fixed it for about $300 - because of a spark plug and a coil. Would never come back here. read more

Silver Star has been amazing! They not only helped me fix the oil leak of a bmw 325 but found other issues that they were able to show me like timing belt which is kind of hidden from atop but very visible when the car is in the lift. Mr. Chau and all of his mechanics are amazing human beings that know a lot about cars are very honest, humble and knowledgeable at what they do. Give them a try, they are very good at fixing any mechanical issues from the root so that you won't have future problems. The best thing is that they can show you what parts are actually wrong with your car. Thank you Mr. Chau, you have earned yourself another customer and generations to come! read more

Alright my review is long overdue. I once had a used 2001 Honda Civic. I had some problems with it, and brought it to Silver Star Auto Repair. Ryan told me from the very start that I should just get a brand new car because the amount I would pay to fix my Civic is not worth it. He advised that it would be better for me to use my money to buy a new car. At first I did not heed his advice, and I just told him that I wanted my car fixed. In the end, Ryan was right. He referred me to a friend of his who owned a car dealership and was able to get myself a brand new 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. If it weren't for Ryan's honesty as a mechanic and advice, I probably would still have that Civic. With my MItsubishi, I now come to Ryan for my oil changes and tire rotations. And I will be coming back for anything else I need when it comes to car advice, repairs, and the like. Ryan is an honest man. And having an honest mechanic is a great thing! I highly recommend him to anyone :) read more

Chau Is the Man. Brought in my daughter's Civic on a Saturday for oil / transmission service and he took care of it on the spot. Great pricing and he uses quality parts. I am also very grateful that he was able to inspect the suspension while the car was up in the air. He noticed a missing bolt in the suspension and took care of it at no additional charge.
