I brought my 1990 Honda Accord here to have the ignition timing checked before my smog inspection a few weeks ago. Minh personally took the time to show me how to verify whether the timing needed adjustment and explained that the timing was already set correctly, so no repair was necessary. He also told me that even if the timing was adjusted, my car might still fail the smog test because of the CO reading--and he was absolutely right. I really appreciated his honesty and willingness to educate me instead of recommending unnecessary work. To top it off, Minh didn't charge me for inspecting the timing. We've been taking our cars here for the last decade. Even though I no longer live in the 626, I only trust Minh to help me with my cars. I've called him on several occasions to tell him what I'm noticing on my car and he will tell me what he thinks it is. Today we literally drove almost 2 hours to get back to OC in horrible traffic but it's still worth it to me. He's always super kind, honest, reasonable with prices. I've been coming to Minh's for as long as I can remember since my dad used to come here. Plus, it's nearby by, so points for convenience. It is horrible. It is my nightmare. My wife got a brake service yesterday. She noticed the brake is not good . She checked with her mobilityworks company, they found out the brake system is bad, she drive back to the store and Minh's Auto said nothing wrong. So i have to pay another Auto shop to fix the brake. What is the point i go there to hve them to fix the brake. Horrible. Been visiting Minh's for awhile now. The best thing about this place is they won't upsell you on anything and will give it to you straight. They are too busy with limited staff to take on unnecessary work. Still, work is done relatively quickly. Oil changes are quick and affordable. I've also had other work done, such as having an alternator changed. The pricing comes out to half or less what a dealership quotes most times. Firstly, it's sort of funny that three auto centers take up this facility. One is for collision, the other is for auto and tires -- just like Minh's. This is a very busy place, so it is recommended to park outside on Valley Blvd, and talk to one of the mechanics before bringing your car in. My visit was for a simple oil change, but boy did I get so much more. You know the mythical air conditioner element, fluid level toping, and other goodies you pay the extra $10 at other oil changing facilities you're supposed to get, but can never verify while they are doing it because you aren't allowed to enter the garage? Well, after checking it after I leave, I rarely ever get those extra goodies. However! At Minh's, they let you stand next to the mechanic as he does his thing. This is rare and VERY valuable as I will explain in a bit. I didn't get minh, but I got someone else, they all looked friendly except my mechanic =\, however, he opened up after a little chit-chat. He's a bit scary, as he smokes while doing an oil change. He keeps it safe though :). Here's where the valuable part I was talking about. While the oil was changing, he pointed out that my brake tire pads needs changing in the front (verified last week when another mechanic took off the tires and looked at it). "Needs changing, but it can wait a few months, so save your money." I was awed by his honesty. If he was a cut-throat greedy mechanic, he would've lied and said "change asap." Another valuable aspect is he actually gave me a few tips while driving to make those pads last even longer! Okay, oil done draining and filter's on. Time to add the oil and for me to go away right? Nope! The service continues! While the battery was added, I was confused when he actually opened the air conditioner element to check on it as I've never seen this done before. It didn't look that dirty, so no replacement was needed; BUT he went to the back, got condensed air and started cleaning it anyway! After that, he asked if I minded if he tested the battery. Why would I? After his diagnostics, he notified me that I was well below average (265 CCA vs. 460 for normal). I'll edit this post once I find out if this is false or not, but I am still awed he would go that far for me, even though this shop does not sell batteries and would not make any profit in running the diagnostics. One final thing he asked before I left: "did you re-do the timing belts yet? I only ask because your car is above 135,000 miles now." Ah-Ha! So their trick was to make me feel friendly with them then try to make me get a repair much more expensive than previously mentioned? Turns out, I was wrong with this theory. He called over Minh to see if it has been done yet (I got this car from my brother, so I have no idea if he did it or not). He started feeling around and concluded "it is very LIKELY it was done. Go double check with your brother! You see, people who do timing belt work have to remove everything and usually they break a few things here and there. This car has this, that, and this screw broken." That guy is a god. He can diagnose just by looking and feeling around for 30 seconds, because I called up my brother and he got it right. It was done. Their final diagnosis was "next time you get your oil checked, that might be when you need your brakes replaced. Get this done first. I know there's still a battery issue, but brakes are more important than batteries. Anybody can jump start you if you get stuck. I want you to be safe on that road out there!" That last sentence is what will make me come back to them forever instead of anywhere else. So here's where I got worried. All this service had to be expensive right? Damn I love being wrong now. $18! That's $10 cheaper than most oil change companies will charge you who don't go through this extra 100 miles to keep you safe. Now I refuse to go anywhere else, because Minh and his crew kept in mind about my safety before my paycheck. read more

I came here today on a Tuesday afternoon around 2-3pm. There was no wait so they worked on my car asap, yes! Took less than 30 mins! They charge around $60ish for an oil change (synthetic oil) for a luxury cars which will last you about 5,000 miles. My mom knows the boss so he was cool. Both the boss and mechanic were telling me about the kinds of oil and things that needed changing on my car like my filter for my ac. They definitely know what they're doing and prices are fair. I"m sorry that there isn't a 0 stars for this business. Minh is a very deceiving "business"man that takes no pride in his work nor does he back anything he does. He put a defective starter into my car which resulted in $$$ to tow it and yet he would not cover the charges. I had to personally take the starter out of the car MYSELF, drive the 45 miles back to his shop to get a new one (which he almost bait and switched me into giving a off-brand/generic when I paid for an OEM!). I then sat there for 3 hours while he 'ordered' a new one to arrive. The nerve of this guy leads me to never go to him ever again for any automotive issues and to advise others to stay away as well! I had major service (timing belt, etc.) done to my other car and now I"m worried what's going to happen to him. I am currently pursuing a chargeback via my credit card company. I accidentally found Minh's when I was at the DMV and wasn't able to remove my license plate I was looking for any place and found Minh's. I figured I'd have to talk him into it since it's such a small job,I was wrong he was very friendly and willing to help, he immediately had a guy work on it for 20 mins who did an amazing job and charged me only $10 dollars. After that experience I brought my car back to him to install a new brake caliper, the last time I had this done it was a nightmare a number of shops told me they couldn't find the part or if they could they would have to order it and it would take a week, which I figured was the industry norm. Wrong again, it took him 2 hours to do the job and again was very happy with the quality of work. I had been taking my car and my wife's car her for some years and was happy until this last time. He decided on his own to change the cabin air filter on both of our cars without asking if I wanted this done. During other times I had taken our cars in, I was always asked this and I always declined. This air filter is so easy to change or clean yourself and is just another thing to add to your repair bill. Since he did this without my permission, now I know he wants to pad the bill and take advantage. This may sound like a small thing, but it does tell me something of his character and is a warning. I do not want to take a chance with something more major later. He also changed this filter on the wife's car but did not tell us he had to go out to buy the filter. That took another almost 2 hours!!! We waited in his hot office not knowing where he was or how much longer it was going to take. I guess being a loyal customer before makes no difference to him, but it will now. We will never go back there again. read more
