I needed to replace my brakes so I went to City Tech Auto. They took the tires out and showed me all the areas/parts needed to be replaced. I took pictures. They quoted me the price along with a long list of other things. I was not prepared nor expected to pay to fix all these things (shocks, axle, control arm). Hm...Let me get a second opinion and compare the price. My brother advised me to go down the street to Advance Auto. I showed Randy (young owner) the pictures and he said I may not need to do all that, let's just do your brakes and rotor disc and I will look at all the others things mentioned and will let you know or call you. Pay a deposit, order the parts, come back tomorrow to get it repaired. I'm glad I got it done today. He used original Toyota parts for the brake pads and Japanese parts for rotor disc, no aftermarket. He test drove the car. He explained everything to me and said I don't need to replace the shocks just yet but I will soon. My car can still drive safely on road. read more

TLDR: They'll steal and/or damaged parts of your car. My father and I have been coming here to do oil changes for both our cars for about 3 years. The most recent time my dad did an oil change, he drove it home and found out the alarm for his car wasn't working. He took it back to them and they said they'll look into but he'll need to leave the car overnight. Looking back we shouldn't have let them have it overnight, but we had no reason not to trust them. The next day they said they couldn't figure out what was wrong with it and just returned the car without fixing the alarm. I tried going back to talk to them but they said these things happen and something needs to be replaced but they're not alarm specialist so they don't know what needs fixing/replacing. Flash forward to 6 months later, my dad and I found another shop and ran into a person that used to patron Advance auto tech. He asked why we stop going there. We told him about our experience and he said that almost the exact same thing happened to him. They are packed often so definitely bring in your car first thing in the morning before the rush. They are good about giving you the cost of generic items compared to manufacture (OEM), and they let you decide which to choose. I came here recently and was disappointed for the following reasons: - I brought my car in with a check engine light on for a smog check. I totally forgot about the light. Unfortunately they went ahead and proceeded to test my car and charge me even though I was definitely going to fail. Most honest car shops will tell you that your going to fail the smog test and not to proceed to save some cash, they will then ask to scan your car to determine the check engine problem. This called into question their integrity. - I came by on Sunday to re-test, and the smog check person decided to take the day off. - I had to come on Monday and take time off work because they were not available Sunday, and they opened 20 minutes late. - While finishing up my smog the mechanic was distracted by other customers. Overall I got the impression the people here are nice. They just need to button up some processes, for example ask the customer if they wish to proceed with the smog check if you know they are going to fail. Have someone available to do the smog check during normal business hours. And finally open in a timely manner. read more

FEMALE DRIVERS - DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO ADVANCE AUTO TECH LOCATED IN ROSEMEAD CA. Recently, I went back to Advance Auto Tech demanding for a refund from one of the sons, Randy who had worked on my car in May of 2019 for a battery and alternator repair. Sadly, the repair only lasted less than six months then my car went completely dead in November of 2019. I contacted AAA for towing service and told him about my recent repair at Advance Auto Tech shop. I provided a copy of the work invoice from the shop for the AAA mechanic to review. After reviewing the work invoice, he was SHOCKED to find out that Randy OVER CHARGED me at least TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS for premium brand, he only put in REFURBISHED parts. Needless to say, RANDY TOOK ADVANTAGE of me being a FEMALE for lacking car knowledge. He was also shocked to find out Randy only guaranteed his labor for 3-months, in comparing to a true professional car mechanic with integrity that will guarantee at least one year for labor. I got a flat tired and was referred by a friend here. Called in to ask if I could come in without and appointment and they were willing to see me knowing I had a flat tire. Randy was super friendly and nice. He saw my tire and told me that he couldn't patch it because my tire is low profile, not sure what that meant hence I'm not very familiar with anything related to auto. But he did reassure me that he can plug it, which will work the same way so I trusted him as I was referred by my friend. Randy told me he had to finish something up with another vehicle before he can work on mine which was no problem because I did come in with no appointment. After my gf got her brakes done here, I noticed the pressure was off when you step on the brakes. From experience, I know this is a brake fluid issue. I told her to bring it back and have them bleed the brake fluid. She brought it back and they told she had to replace her master cylinder and that it would be dangerous driving the car. She was terrified and was about to agree to it but I convinced not to do it. I ended up bleeding the brakes myself and took it to another mechanic for a second opinion.
