Kuan's Auto Repair
Diana L.

I visited Kuan's Auto Repair at around 3:30 PM on Friday Dec 3rd, and had an awesome experience. I've been stressed about finding a honest, reputable auto shop to service my car. I've been taking my 2019 Hyundai Elantra back to the dealer for all servicing for the past 2 years (lol I know I've been getting ripped off). However, after not being able to make an appt with them for the next 1.5 months, I finally had to take my car elsewhere since I was due for an oil change and tire rotation. My in-laws have been taking all of their cars to Kuan (pronounced koon btw...lol I didn't know). He's not only nice, patient, reputable but extremely honest. I called Monday in the afternoon to make an appointment. Kuan picked up rather quickly and said the earliest time he had was Thursday afternoon. I asked if Friday would be okay and he recommended for me to call him back on Friday, 2 hours before I'm able to come. So I did and he was able to squeeze me in at around 4pm. When I arrived at around 3:30 PM, he was still helping out another customer so I just parked my car and waited. When it was my turn (a little after 4pm), I wasn't sure if my car took reg or synthetic oil, but he showed me how to check under the hood. We decided that it was best to stick with 5-20w oil (which was listed on my engine). He also told me that the dealer was putting in 5-30w engine oil, which was actually lowered quality oil, in my car in my past services. I also learned some info about my car (I'm a noob okay) and he didn't seem judgmental but was extremely patient to answer my questions. He helped me change my oil (reg $40) and rotate my tires ($20) for a total of $60. He was not upset that he had to work past his closing time (he closes at 5PM) and he actually finished a little after 5:30 PM. I appreciate him for his honest character, patience, and how nice he is! I also wanted to point out that his auto expertise is primarily in Japanese cars (ie. Toyota, Lexus, Honda, Acura, Nissan, Subaru, Mazda, etc.) He does a few Hyundais and if he has the parts available, he said he would be able to help me. Note that he doesn't service German or American cars. All in all, Kuan's gained himself a repeat customer! I am more than happy to recommend him and come back in the future.

Hoist game strong here at Kuan's. Oil change on point. Thanks Kuan!

After retiring my 2009 Honda Pilot, I got another Japanese car. Kuan's able to work on 2019s which is perfect. Finally brought my 2019 Lexus F-Sport RX to Kuan's for my 15K (after Longo Lexus' two free complimentary oil changes). Kuan has fully synthetic Toyota motor oil (or Honda) available for your newer cars. It'll cost you more but still tons cheaper than the dealer's price. My family and I have trusted Kuan's for many years, we'll still bring our Japanese cars here.

Kuan's a good, honest mechanic. His pricing is also very fair and I don't intend to go anywhere soon for the time being.

The other place keeps raising his rates. So I contacted Tony. He responded with a very reasonable price, $80 cheaper for two cars than my one of other mechanics. Came here twice in a week shortly after they opened and both times I was in and out quickly. Both places I've been to before are slower. One would take an hour, the other would take a 1/2 day because they're always busy. Even though Tony is about 15 minutes away from me, vs. the other two that are just a few minutes away, it's worth the drive for the efficient quick service and reasonable price.

When I pulled my car in, they told me to wait on the side. I was a bit confused at first, I thought they had to ask me what I was in for. But then I saw them bring my car into the lift, and when I saw and heard the mechanics, who are like your average Asian uncles, I knew my car was in good hands lol. Not sure if they remembered I was coming in or everyone who comes in just gets full synthetic oil changes, but I confirmed with the uncle and he said "Yes yes I got you the good kind" I realized I also needed a tire rotation so I asked him if they could do it and they said no problem 25 bucks. And I said ok no problem. Everyone was super nice and friendly, and Tony was very informative. As soon as my car was lifted, one mechanic worked on the tires and one mechanic worked on the oil change. My car was back on the ground in 10 minutes. I've never had an oil change done this fast. Not sure if I actually even waited? Lol Everyone was very quick and efficient and I loved it. I don't live in the area anymore, but live about half an hour away. but I would definitely come back for my oil changes now.

I originally brought my car in because of a grinding/scraping noise. I was told the wheel hub bearing was the problem, and I paid around $800 to have it replaced. About two to three months later, the exact same noise and problem came back. I returned to the shop and asked them to inspect it, expecting the previous repair to be honored or at least thoroughly re-evaluated. Instead, I was told it was a completely different issue that would require another repair and another payment. From my perspective, it was the exact same symptom that I originally paid to have fixed. I took the car to my family mechanic for another opinion. During the inspection, he found my engine oil level was nearly empty, even though this shop had performed my oil change less than 4 months earlier. He also didn't find any obvious signs of an external oil leak, which made me even more concerned. I understand that diagnosing cars can be challenging and that not every repair is guaranteed to solve a problem. However, paying around $800 for a repair that didn't resolve the issue, being told the recurring problem was something different and would require even more money to fix, and then discovering my engine oil was nearly empty after trusting this shop with routine maintenance left me very disappointed. As a repeat customer, I expected better service and more accountability when the same issue returned. To top it off, the handwritten receipt was extremely difficult to read, making it frustrating to understand exactly what work had been documented. Based on my experience, I won't be returning and can't recommend this shop.

Javi Auto Repair - Found this corroded, frayed battery cable on my fuse block. Fixed it before it left me stranded.

Bro, if you have a Mazdaspeed go see Javi…read more My 2012 Speed3 got hit hard. Frame damage, front end smashed, lights dead. I thought it was done. Javi sent me to a body shop he trusts & they killed it. Frame fixed. All OEM bumper parts. Perfect color match. The only way you can tell is the new bumper is shinier than my old oxidized paint lol. He even wired in new horns while the front end was apart. I had an oil leak & Javi called it right away. Cracked turbo. He told me to upgrade instead of chasing leaks. CorkSport later confirmed the crack in my old K04 & gave me the full core rebate. New turbo runs so smooth. Over the past year he's basically rebuilt my car. Airbags, seat belts, cooling fan, motor mounts, rear rotors, & suspension with Koni Yellow struts. Every part is OEM, CorkSport, Whiteline, or Koni. Perfect OEM plus build. He caught a corroded battery cable before it left me stranded. It pulls clean with zero knock. Ready to scare some drivers. He even mounted a vintage Heuer yacht timer on my dash. Random request, but he was down. He knows the Mazdaspeed must dos. Direct injection builds carbon on the intake valves, so he cleaned them. He replaced my VVT & timing chain parts. He rebuilt my HPFP with upgraded internals. Skip these & your Speed3 won't last. Last visit he did oil pressure & temp gauges, a CorkSport skid plate, a left axle with a 2 year warranty, & spark plugs. He also fixed my AC, which was over pressurized. But the headlight is the real story. Another shop tried 3 times & gave up. Javi reverse engineered it. He sacrificed an OEM tech package right headlight for parts & rewired it. Now my left light works. That's real problem solving. After pickup I had a coolant leak. He drove all the way from San Gabriel to the Valley to check it himself. It was just the pressure cap. Cheap fix & no issues since. No mechanic has ever done that for me. He's honest on cost & tells you when to save on parts. No upselling. He works on everything but if you're in the Mazdaspeed community, you already know his name. Driver's era cars need guys like Javi. Old soul, new parts & always keeping me on the road!
