As of recently, my wheel felt wobbly while I have been driving so I reluctantly came to Vo's as I was tired of getting ripped off by other auto shops. After a quick, efficient diagnosis, my expectations were blown away. Vo informed me of the issue at hand, other potential issues that may come up in the future, and was willing to fix everything all at once, saving me the trouble of multiple visits to fix something that could've been fixed all at once. Despite my car needing a rack and pinion replacement, the car was fixed in mere hours, which blew my mind, as I believed it would've taken days to fix. They had also washed the underside of my car as a part of the service for free! That has not been done at any other car shop I've visited ever. Been going to Vo for 7+ years now. I've noticed he's been getting more and more business/busier over the years and it'd be nice if this gem stayed hidden so there'd be less wait time for me...buuut I wanna make sure he stays in business for me to bring my car in to so here I am. Like other people mentioned his prices are not the cheapest, but they are fair and most importantly he is honest and he does try to do whats best for the customer. Here are some examples... When replacing parts, he shows me(sometimes, not always) the old part and points out what went wrong with it. One time Vo showed me that a stuck pin was causing my brakes not to close all the way. He tried his best to clean the pin area out to save me money. It didn't work so I ended up getting new brakes, but I appreciate the effort he put in. Another time he told me I had a small oil leak in my car, but told me to reach that part of the engine and replace a tiny little part that cost $50 would cost over a grand in labor and it just wasn't worth it. Told me to just pour a little bit of oil in every other month instead. More recently I brought my car in for an oil change because it was 2 months overdue(5 months since last change). He could have easily just taken my money and did the oil change, but Vo examined the oil and told me that it was still pretty clean(I have two cars and don't drive this one much) and that I didn't need to do the oil change. One tip though, for larger repairs that you don't need right away you can ask Vo how much just the labor costs. Then go home and buy the parts online. To make sure I buy the right parts I usually print out the details + a large picture of them and visit Vo again to get a thumbs up. I'm glad I found his shop all those years ago when he only had a handful of reviews on Yelp. I don't mind paying a "fair" price to know that the mechanic working on my car is an honest one. I highly recommend this mechanic shop if you need a quick fix for typical cars like toyota and honda etc. In fact, the price for oil change here is usually cheaper than those franchised oil change places. This place is located inside the lot of Arco gas station on Garfield blvd (next to Garfield Medical Center). What I really appreciate about this place is how Vo always makes his customer feels welcome with positive attitude and he is very knowledgeable about cars. He will tell you straightforward what needs to be fixed immediately, while letting you know things that will need replacement in the future that aren't urgent so you can look out for them. Typically, I would bring my car in, told him the probs i noticed with my car, left my car there for a couple hours so he could take a look, then he would call me to let me know the issues along with the costs. Yes, Vo is the best! I had a spark plug that stripped the engine block, and popped of out it's hole, making the car unable to drive. I called around and most mechanics wouldn't even touch it. But then I called Vo's and he repaired it quickly and inexpensively, and he stayed late so I could pick up the car, after cruising the metro from work. What a guy. This place just does the job! No wonder they get all 5 stars! It's super close to my house and I love how convenient it is for me to go there for anything. It's located in the corner of Garfield and Hellman at the Shell gas station. They are usually quite busy so make sure you call ahead of time if you live further away. I've gotten a couple things done here. I got my oil changed, tires repaired, etc. The owner of this place is called Mr. Vo and he is super friendly. His English is decent enough to communicate and if you want, he speaks Chinese too for those who prefer that language. His other workers are super friendly as well! I forgot how much a tire repair was... but it was definitely worth not doing yourself. I think it was around $10 or less? They then make sure all your tires are at it's full air capacity and check if there are anymore other holes. The oil change isn't too expensive too because I usually bring my own filter and oil for them. You can have them provide it for you as well if you don't want to go through the hassle. My mom recently got her smog check here for her car and it cost about $40, which is pretty much average price. But I'm telling you... this is the best service you'll get. This place is legit. I just moved to Monterey Park recently so when my car started making weird noises I looked on Yelp for a mechanic, and lo and behold I stumbled onto Vo's. Located inconspicuously in an Arco gas station, Vo is a straight up NICE guy. Very through and detail oriented, he explained everything he was going to do to my car and the potential ramifications. I definitely didn't feel like he kept me in the dark about anything. What happened was that I needed a new alternator, he offered me different choices with different price ranges, and his personal recommendations. I left my car there and came back later in the day, the car was done in a few hours. The work he did was quality, and when I told him that I found him on Yelp he gave me a 20 dollar discount. I've been back a few times for oil leaks and belt tightening, and every single time he has greeted me with the utmost in professionalism. Once I stood there for over half an hour and the owner did not have the time to look at a simple problem my car had, which would probably took him less than a minute. These guys are down for a challenge and will do it with a smile. Not to mention have no problems preforming matainence. Kay, now the story. I had a turd brown Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX. It ran, but due to complications it was cheeper for me to move the good engine over to another shell. So I got a cheeper red shell and moved the engine over to that car (I assumed the Trans from the red car was good. I was given a choice in Trans, so I chose the Trans from the red car), but Hai (pronounced Hi) gave me a lower quote than others for a Engine swap (not to mention one of the few who where willing to take on a challenge, so the contract stated no promises on the car starting. There is a legit reason why that's important, engines are not usually designed to move into different cars. Regardless, V O not only moved the heavy iron block over, they got the beast to drive. And it drove well, well until the Sincros in the Trans broke.... Not his fault. To be honest, no one actually knew how the Trans of choice was in condition. "Why didn't anyone open them up to see if they could run?", Because have you opened a trans up? It's maybe the most difficult thing I could think anyone could do. Anyway, why did I wait? I half forgot and half waiting for the car to be completed. The GSX isn't done yet (keyword). I found a place that is willing to actually work on my W5M33 Trans, then (Hai if your reading this, let me know) I'm going to come back for a full treatment/upgrade. I'm going to see if V O to wants to upgrade the control arms for the big Brembo brakes I'm looking to install along with suspension. So yes, if you have a car that just needs service, don't wait. Ok. I'm about to say two words that you've probably never heard in the same sentence. Are you ready? Cause here goes... Honest... Mechanic. Wait, that's not a sentence. Lemme try again. Vo Tang of Vo Auto Repair Inc. gave me the greatest experience I've ever had at an auto repair shop because HE is an honest... mechanic. How's that? Still don't believe it? I don't blame you. I couldn't believe my luck either. It all started when I replaced my radiator which emptied my AC. In LA, you can't go a day without AC because well, Americans are spoiled like that. So I checked with the repair shops around my neighborhood who all gave me an estimate of $130. Of course I bargained it down, but it was only a 10-20 dollar difference. Then I asked my friend who recommended I go to this part of town because "the mechanics here are nice and affordable." I did some research and found Vo and his repair shop partnered at the corner of a gas station. These always came by as sketchy to me. I don't know why. But for some reason I've always felt like when the repair shop is not "freestanding" you're about to be duped for some extra costs. (It's like getting your tires replaced at Wal-Mart ..."oh, and did you hear about Wal-Mart's extended warranty?" "Um, no I didn't. But can I leave now?" ) This was not the case with Vo. Not only did he take the time to explain the issues of refilling AC (ensuring leaks and what not) but he administered a pressure test and went as far as to explain why and how it works. Long story short, my AC is now cold as hell. Wait, no. Cold as heaven? I guess that doesn't work either. Colder then a polar bear's fingernail? That's a bit of stretch. Cause sometimes they have polar bears at zoos in cities that are hot as hell. Look at that, the simile works this time. So I guess you're all wondering about the price. Polar bear in mind, the other fools quoted me at $130. Vo of Vo's Auto repair said a flat $80. Now I'm not gonna lie, I STILL bargained the price and Vo was cool with that. He's super nice and understanding so to be fair, I won't tell you exactly what he charged me. But I will say this: It was definitely a steal. I not only recommend Vo's Auto Repair but would happily go out of my way, to go here again. read more
