I tried a grinder, which was delicious and made for a great quick lunch. The pizza slices were clearly popular as well, with plenty of people grabbing them during the lunch rush. For pizza, I ordered the mashed potato & bacon and the chicken parm. The mashed potato & bacon was the standout of the meal, with a nice char on the crust and no flop. This order was delivery. I ordered an eggplant Parm grinder and added roasted peppers with a side of french fries. The first thing I did not like was that it was in a Styrofoam container. This reminded me of the 90s. I'm not sure why they're using Styrofoam containers for a grinder. The grinder was a lot smaller than the. The eggplant cutlets themselves were very tasty and delicious. They were cooked well and seasoned well and I was very happy with that. There was not a lot of filling, however. Little to no sauce the grinder roll was soft and squishy. nothing wrong with it, but not what you think of a firm grinder roll at least in Connecticut. The french fries that came with it were Very good and tasty. I ordered the salad for lunch the following day. There wasn't a salad that I liked without meat and the house salad did not have many ingredients. I did like that. I was able to get a plain house salad and add on ingredients. Ordered pizza for a party and was an epic failure. When I called, they told me they can get it delivered before they even opened at 11. When my husband called, they told him they can deliver and have the pizzas there for 11. The birthday party was from 10 to 12 at a location where we had to leave at 12. They showed up at 11:40 and the pizza wasn't great. Needless to say, I'll never order from there again. They kept giving incorrect information on the phone saying they would be there in 15 minutes then it was another two minutes, etc. Never again. After calling my husband today begging he have me removed my Google review, they lied in their reply to my review saying they didnt know there was an issue and that there was communication around timing. There was no miscommunication. They completely forgot about the order, and instead of taking responsibility, proved a total lack of honesty and integrity. 12/19/24 I never thought I would be giving Silver Sands in Wallingford this rating. I know it's a busy time of year and everyone can have a bad day, but for what I paid $50+ not including the tip, nope!. We ordered chicken noodle soup which wasn't sent, but was on the bill. Next, chicken parmigiana with ziti. It was so dry we had to add sauce from a jar and last but not least chicken Marsala. The flour was way too thick. But my BIGGEST AGGRAVATION was the way things were packaged. The Marsala was placed on top of the parmigiana and spilled all over the containers and bag, causing the bags to fall apart making a mess everywhere. I think Silver Sands should review their packaging procedures and make sure things are not smashed and crammed into cheap brown paper bags. The food is very good as are the prices and portion sizes, but the service needs improvement. We have experienced a wide range of things with them including: - Our first time ordering pizza, we asked if they could cut it "pie style" to ensure that it wasn't cut into squares. While this is actually their default method, they had no idea what we were talking about. - When asking for green peppers to be added to a pizza as a topping, we've gotten responses of "I think we can do that", "I think they're grilled, is that ok?" (they aren't grilled), and "let me check if we can do that." - Upon completing a phoned-in order to be picked, they have stated "ok, you're all set" with no estimated time and they hang up and not providing a total cost. - Upon completing a phoned-in order to be picked up, they have provided what can only be described as a generic time estimate as our food is always ready much sooner (and we go much sooner to ensure the food is HOT). - Upon entering the store to pick up an order, the staff (usually at least three of them) tends to be in the rear portion of the store and no one comes out immediately to handle a customer transaction even though they see me enter. - Although their system apparently tracks customers from a phone number, they seldom confirm my name prior to hanging up or provide any indication of how to ask for my order when I get there. The overall impression that I get is that the people that are in charge of operating the business (customer-facing staff) do not know the business like they should and it's disappointing. The folks working in the kitchen have clearly got it down because the food itself is great! If it were a situation where someone new had joined the staff and was learning, that would make sense and we could totally understand that. But this is spread across different people and has been going on for months. None of our orders are anything but right off of the menu, and learning that portion of the business in a restaurant should take no more than a maximum of about 10 shifts. We just recently celebrated my mother's birthday with a pizza party per her request. She chose Silver Sands Pizza in Milford to get the pies from. My boyfriend and I ordered their Veggie Supreme for ourselves, a red pie with onions, peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes and broccoli. It was eh. The main complaint was a lack of flavor. I didn't detect even a hint of salt which really would've helped to bring out the flavor of the vegetables and the sauce, both of which were pretty bland. Adding plenty of salt, pepper and Mrs. Dash made the pie more palatable. But for the scant amount of pepper on the pie (two slices, maybe?), the total amount of veggies was adequate. The crust was a nice thin one that was cooked to done-ness, but lacking any char which I like. . . but to each their own. As a result the veggies were warmed through, but didn't have that flavorful roasted quality experienced at other pizzerias. Given a choice, I would skip getting pizza from Silver Sands Pizza again. read more
