Loved, Loved, Loved this! Visiting from St. Louis, we went here on Mothers Day. The wait was about 45 min, but it seemed more like 30. The food was outstanding! My mother ordered the Prime Rib special for $19.99....when I say this was the absolute best prime rib I've ever had, oh my goodness. The size of this piece of meat was something off the Flintstones. Other meals at the table...Crabcake Dinner - one of the largest I've ever seen and extremely good. Gyro...huge and enjoyable. Western Omelette & French Toast, outstanding. I thought long and hard about posting this, but after some serious consideration I decided it was important to talk about what happened to my ten year old daughter today (Yes, the one who has chronic Lyme Disease). It wasn't so much the cockroach in her ice cream that upset me or the fact that she had it inside of her mouth; that was awful in itself, but it was how the incident was handled by the owner, Nikki that was morally disgusting and professionally reprehensible. My family and I came to Silver Moon Diner on Middle River Road and Route 40 along with some family from out of town for lunch. The food was good as it usually is every time I go there. At the end of my daughters' meals they requested ice cream. I was finishing up my food when my ten year old, Kylie who was visibly upset said "Momma, this was in my mouth from my ice cream!" I looked at something that was resembling a bug. Upon closer inspection is was in fact a roach. A roach was inside of my daughters mouth from her ice cream! I quickly and quietly informed the staff while her aunt took her into the bathroom where she threw up from utter disgust. The front staff told me there was no manager at the restaurant. Wow, okay! So I asked to speak to someone and told them I would wait to talk to a manger. The hostesses called the owner and said she'd meet me here in 5-10 minutes. When the owner came I informed her of what happened. I told her I wasn't trying to cause a big fuss or anything. I just wanted her to make it right and so she knew there were roaches in her establishment. I was told it wasn't their fault. It was Jack and Jill's fault because they outsource their ice cream. She took 50% off of my bill for the inconvenience. Mind you the roach wasn't frozen into the ice cream, however that was neither here nor there. My main concern was my poor sick, wrenching child. As I was paying up front my family from VA said "You should do something about those roaches, this poor baby shouldn't have had a roach in her ice cream!" The owner Nikki then turned and yelled at my Aunt and said "I'll take 50% off of your bill but you're never welcomed here again!" The owner went on to say in the front entrance to her restaurant (sorry for the explicit language) "I bet the fucking roaches came from your house, bitch!" Then she yelled for someone to escort us from the restaurant. Mind you I was already walking out with my children in tow who saw and heard all of this! It's sad that I can't protect the girls from the ugly in this world. My poor 10 & 5 year old daughters had to hear the vulgar language coming from this woman who owns Silver Moon Diner on top of already feeling queasy for having a cockroach in her mouth! The talk on the way home was about how sometimes people are wrong and they try to pass the blame by making excuses that hurt your feelings. How incredibly rude! I am a business owner myself of a very successful cleaning service and regardless of any issues that may arise I am always sure to keep my clients and their needs my first priority. Cockroaches carry lots of diseases. My daughter's already been through enough of a bug infecting her with diseases. She is terrified. I reassured her she will be okay. We've been through worse with Lyme disease. My Pastor and his family were dining here at the same time we were almost done. I feel like that was God's way of making sure I didn't put on "the old me" and stoop to the owners level. I will never, ever come back here again. This was my dad's choice for dinner. My last diner experience was horrible (see my Baker's Diner review), so I've been avoiding them all together. On entering, I noticed the tables are jammed in there. Second, I noticed the dirty floor under our booth. Not a good start. Meals come with a soup or salad. My salad was a bit brown, but still edible. I didn't care for the house dressing. The chicken soup got favorable comments. My dad's crabcake looked yummy. I had a "I should have ordered that" moment. It was huge and cooked perfectly. All lump meat and seasoned well - it had a nice flavor too. 5 Stars for the crabcake! My T-Bone was cooked to order. It had a nice flavor, but with all the fat, it left me hungry for more. French fries and corn were both good. My brother ordered their Spinach Pie. It was huge. He said it was really good too. Service was slow. Our waiter could stand around but not be effective on waiting on people. My meal was not up to par my catfish was rubbery as if it had be fried and left sitting, baked potato and green beans were cold. Saturday evening, we came in for dinner. I noticed a box and bag of trash and assorted bottles along the walkway on the west end, by the handicap ramp. I let the manager know, and she said she'd take care of it. The following Wednesday, I stopped by, the bottles are in the same position, and the bag and box of trash are still along side the edge of the sidewalk. The food may be good, but they certainly don't care a lot about the outward appearance, not to mention the rodent risk bags and boxes of trash create. This place actually used to be really decent. It recently changed hands and my family had an awful experience. My son got the crabcake. There was a huge hair in it. They offered to replace it which they did. Three of us got scallops. I've never seen scallops that were chopped up and like shoved together; it was like scallop chunks. I have been coming to the Silver Moon diner since new owners took over. The atmosphere is one of being relaxed, friendly environment. Excellent food at reasonable prices. Delicious fresh baked, on premises, treats. All the wait staff are great, would like to mention my two go to servers: Carlos and Maria. Always happy, friendly and excellent service. I Moved into the area about a month ago. Decided to try this place. I opted to try the breakfast food. It came very quickly no more than 10 minutes. I was disappointed my eggs has to slice of unmelted cheese just placed on top. The server continued to take plates off the table as if he was in a rush and no it wasn't busy. My waffle was fine but then again it's hard to mess up a waffle. I over heard the server behind me telling another customer to stick their finger in the middle of a sandwich to see if it was done and if not she would get it dropped again, meaning it would be cooked more. How unsanitary! The food was okay, not badly done; but nothing special or worth a long trip. I got a greek chicken wrap and the wife got a turkey club (real carved breast, a nice touch) They do seem to do the whole cover the plate /large portions approach to cover for any shortcomings. I think I expected there to be a little feta or a black olive or two in my wrap. It was decently done chicken with italian dressing and lots of iceberg lettuce. Her club was pretty straightforward with one large exception. There was no mayo/dressing on that whole giant thing. The only moisture was the tomato. The server did eventually bring her a tiny plastic cup of mayo (is there a shortage we don't know about?) The "complaint" I have (and why we may not come back) is this. They need a makeover.... When we first walked in there is an overwhelming [old seafood/old grease/cigarettes from years past] smell to the place. Thankfully you go noseblind to it by the time your food comes. I think the workforce must be permanently inured. If I was shooting one of those commercials there I would have a giant crab sitting on top of fish bones on an ashtray. I'm not sure what they could do about that except a total top to bottom deep cleaning/replace fabrics/carpet. Then bring in a stronger ventilation system. I used to love this place, and we'd go every two weeks, my Mom and uncle loved the crab cakes, and they had a I believe 20 ounce filet mignon that was awesome. And it wasn't that expensive, plus you got two or three sides including soup or salad, and their homemade chicken noodle or rice soup was great. Then I went one Friday and they were sold out of the filet so I ordered the NY strip, medium rare. It came out well done, I asked for a new steak, the waitress had to ask the owner, he was sitting in a booth behind us. I heard him say, "This steak is medium rare, she doesn't know what she is talking about, she needs to shut up and eat it." And basically he would not allow me to get a different steak. Waitress came back and she said they were sold out of the NY strip, and I could get something else. I ordered the special, something nasty with noodles and chicken in a cheese sauce. She left my sides from the steak and said I could keep them. Bill comes, they charged me for the sides from the steak I tried to give back, because the special didn't come with sides. Not only was it fast, but it was all cooked perfectly to order; that is eggs over easy, home fries well done , and rye toast. My coffee was offered to be refilled without asking. My server Linda was not only polite and courteous but also friendly as well. Double -T needs to take lessons on customer service. Good food, nice service and a huge selections of great desserts. Try the baklava-cheesecake. I've been eating at Silver Moon Diner ever since their carry-out restaurants in East and West Baltimore. The Grilled Chicken Sandwich is always at favorite and you can't go wrong with it at all (Make sure you ask for cheese though because if you don't, you don't get any on it). Their steak fries are always crisp and never greasy (Good Job on those!). I'm adventurous so I'm always up to trying something new. I think I bit off more than I can chew literally as I ordered the Shrimp seafood Primavera and it had whole baby Calamari in it (Squids). Now I've had calamari before but this was different and difficult for me to stomach with the little buggers looking at me as I ate. I love the meat wrapped in grape leaves although for some it is an acquired taste, I think they're really good (The Boulevard Diner's is better though). They always have good service and the food is reasonably priced. When you're adventurous like me, you're bound to come across a dish that doesn't appeal to you but hey! It goes with the territory. I've visited the Silver Moon Diner at various hours of the day and it has a calm atmosphere except on evenings when there's some kind of show or event in the city, Silver Moon is one of the few late nite Dives where you can still get a decent meal without wondering if the greasy cook in the back who's ready to go home may have slipped a little something in your dish... Ugh!! The setback is that because it's one of the few good spots to eat late, you'll have to deal with the youngsters and I'm not talking about children either. I didn't look at the reviews before coming here. I really like the "diner" experience so I've been trying out a few local ones. This place was a total shock. I wasn't expecting it to be so good! I had the Chip Beef on Toast and the beef is cut thick. Very tasty! I also had an omelet (green pepper and mushroom) and it was absolutely delicious. My wife had the french toast -- again, a knock out. I didn't even put syrup on them and they were almost magical. I'd highly recommend this place and I'm definitely going back. Oh!
