The restaurant does not take reservations so we called ahead as requested by the staff. When we arrived the greeter told us that it did not matter that we called ahead, that they were not going to seat us because they decided to seat a large party that was just arriving (and did not call ahead). The staff then started talking very horribly about us to each other right in front of us, granted they were speaking in Spanish and had no idea that we were fluent, but what was said was absolutely atrocious. We will never go to this restaurant again because the staff is absolutely horrible. read more

I can't believe for the life of me where the hell these negative reviews come from. Thee ONLY thing I can think of is that they a expecting a $200 meal for $2 !! I have NEVER had a bad meal here ! I have literally eaten about half the items on the menu but my absolute fav is the SINGLE crab cake dinner. If ya get the 2 crab cakes, they are smaller then 1 single crab cake. Don't know why but it is what it is. Everyone has always been very polite & cordual ! So all you folks that want a fantastic meal, jus roll right into the driveway of the Silver Moon. I happened to be in the area and this local diner was the closest restaurant that didn't have an awful Yelp rating. Plus, some Yelpers recommended the seafood, so I figured it was worth a try. I actually thought service at this diner was okay. Having dealt with people in this area, who are generally a bit gruff, I don't have high expectations. The only issue is they gave me the wrong kind of potato, mashed instead of fries. Aside from that, the fried seafood platter was not bad at all. Very poor customer service. I walked in here to have brunch with my 4 friends and the gentleman at the door was way too busy yelling at God knows who to notice that we're right there. I asked him if there's a wait and he goes "one second!" very rudely. When we sat down we wanted to order mimosas and the server told one of my friends that he can't take her ID because it's vertical (she's 23 years old). I now understand that it's a Maryland state law but I'm not from here and I didn't know that I had to google it. When I asked the server why he can't accept her ID he said "BECAUSE!" very angrily and walked away. We ended up getting up and leaving, everyone was so rude and angry. If you're going to start acting like that just because it's a busy shift then don't work at a restaurant. We won't be coming back. read more

Busy with good reason. Had the rich but great Chesapeake chicken. Smothered in shrimp, crab and a creamy cheesy white sauce. Greek salad was spot-on. Tuna melt and gyro also good. Fabulous desserts. Bonanza of cheesecakes. Boston cream is too large and too unweildy to qualify as a donut -- but very good. read more

Real old time diner serving great breakfast, fast, reasonably priced and large portions. Had the corned beef hash and eggs, excellent! Came with hash browns, toast and small juice at a great value. Well, it's a diner. I was at White Marsh and didn't feel like the MANDATORY CUP OF SOUP™ at the Double T, spotted this place on my GPS, and headed on over. And everything was...well, just ok. The service wasn't really quick off the mark, but friendly enough. The environment was, well, virtually identical to the Nautilus or the Double T, but that's expected. The food was, well, just ok. I have no complaints, but no reasons to heap great praise either. On the upside, the food was slightly cheaper than Double T (although my burger did mysteriously come with soup). On the downside, there was some horrible kid running around screaming, I assume he's related to the owners as his portrait was placed prominently above the register. If you're on this side of town and want to eat at a diner, well, here ya go. read more

I should start off by saying the service was great. We were seated right away and our waiter was very attentive. I also like the decor of the diner. They have a good selection of vegetarian dishes, which is always nice. I had the cream of broccoli soup to start with, which was very good. My dislike came with the actual food in our meals. I ordered the veggie quesadilla, which had absolutely no taste to it. It was completely bland and WAY too hot. I had to use a napkin to hold it and it kept burning my mouth. At one point a mushroom fell out of the quesadilla and landed on my thumb. I'm not even exaggerating when I say I spent the rest of the meal icing the burn on my thumb because the food was that hot. My husband ordered the gyro and said it was good, but he wasn't a fan of the sauce. His meal was also extremely hot. This was our first time here and we'll probably give it one more try, but we'll be trying different dishes. read more

Growing up in B-more I occasionally get the urge for a crab cake. Decent ones are hard to come by, even though I'm close by in Delaware. My nephew recommended the Silver Moon. Went there yesterday, and it is now my new "go-to" place for crab cakes. wow, I didn't expect a crab cake like this at a "diner". Huge, broiled or fried, and all meat with just enough filler to hold it together. I will be going back there from now on when I need my CC fix. The platter also came with crab soup, which was pretty ok, potato choice (mashed or fries) and a decent helping of cole slaw. I got it "to go", so my service interaction was limited, but from what I saw, everyone was nice and the place seemed to be running smoothly. read more

I like Silver Moon diner. We are always nice to the staff... we have all kind of waiters and waitresses. They have good food for the price. On one visit, we brought my family. For the last five years, my husband and I would go for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They have thick turkey bacon for breakfast. When we have take out, sometimes they mess the order up, so I suggest you check everything before you leave the diner. Depending on the management of the day, they make substitutions. The dessert are delicious and they are HUGE for 1 person! read more

My Mom and I go to Silver Moon EVERY Thursday and we are NEVER disappointed. The food is always fantastic no matter what we get. The crab cakes are the BEST that I have ever tasted. They are huge and are all lump crab meat. You can't really eat them on a sandwich because they fall apart because they have hardly any filler. They give you lots of food so if you leave here hungry it is your own fault. Our favorite waiter is Totti. He is amazing. He left for a while and we were so upset. We came in one Thursday night and we were so happy to see that he is back. He is the best waiter we have every had. Very attentive, friendly, professional and just an all around great guy. This Sliver moon is horrible. Im going to assume their under new owners. Don't waste your time, especially with the lady behind the cash register. She has a really bad attitude. The food and service sucks. I will never patronize with them again. I had pancakes and bacon. Bacon was cold, my toast was rye bread (did not request rye) pancakes were horrible. They don't even have real syrup. You have to use the syrup packs from the table. Only god knows how long they have been there. My friend omelette shouldn't even been called an omelette. The Siver Moon has been a favorite if mine for years, until a few days ago. I had dinner with a friend and ordered my usual scallop dinner. I get it almost every time I go there. I will not be going back!! I bit into my first scallop and tasted ammonia. That only happens when the seafood gets old. I told my waitress about it. She was very apologetic. She got the manager , I believe it was the owners daughter... She told me that the people sitting behind me ordered the same thing and they didn't complain. As if I was making it up!! She told me that their seafood is delivered daily. OK. I will buy that, however who is to say the cook used the freshest scallops. Maybe he used leftovers from the weekend. She offered NOTHING!! Absolutely horrendous. I stopped in with a large group of military co-workers for lunch, some of which were being conscious of their diets in order to keep fit. The menu is extremely large, so ideally there SHOULD be something for everyone--wrong. When asking the server to make very MINOR adjustments to the meal (ex: can you add_____, or remove______?) in order to meet their dietary needs, the server stared at them for a couple seconds. Then sighed loudly and shook his head in order to show us that WE were being inconvenient to him, and to display his frustration with the SIMPLE requests of my coworkers. I ordered the chicken cordon bleu, which was mushy and must have been almost a whole pound of pasta in serving size. It tasted of purely garlic, to the point where I simply could not finish it. When the same server came back to clear our table, he looked bewildered that I did not finish my food. He asked me why I would waste so much food. Firstly, I am not the one who plated this serving amount. Secondly, I did not enjoy it--therefore I will not finish it. I simply told him I didn't enjoy it and that he can take it away. I did not ask for a refund, I simply paid because I knew dealing with this man would be very difficult. Additionally, this server was very brash and was annoyed when I asked him to repeat what the soups of the day were, I almost felt bad I even asked. I ended up eating the BURNED toast that came with my coworkers entrees, and even that was better than my meal. I have never felt so disrespected from a dining establishment! read more

I'm still very upset about the service I received last night. Silver Moon is usually me and my husbands go to place to eat when we don't feel like cooking. Well, not anymore. Last night, my husband and I came to the diner with two of our friends and their 4 children. The waiter barely spoke to us, grumbly asked what we wanted to drink, brought the wrong drinks and basically threw our plates at us. He never asked us if we needed anything. It got so bad that we had to give him a list of things when he finally did show back up. (Refills, missing food). My friend got her food about 10 minutes before everyone else. He knows we were upset because the manager guy walked over and him and our waiter literally stood there and stared at us while speaking in a different language. My friend speaks a little of it and they were clearly talking about us and how they put a "service charge" on our bill due to how difficult we were being. We got the bill and there it was. An 18% service charge. I will never come back here. I'll go to Double T or Boulevard from now on. read more

This is my local neighborhood diner and after reading so many negative reviews on here I feel obligated to write a review shedding positive light on this establishment with my dinning experiences there. Me and my wife have never ever had any issues with the food, wait staff, or hostess. We are there to eat not make friends so if I'm not greeted with a "How are you, or welcome" that does not offend me! The best crab cakes I've ever had. We always compare everyone's crab cakes to Silver Moon Diner and have yet to find one that compares is taste and flavor! Very reasonable priced food and a very overwhelming selection and great daily specials. Compared to Double T, they are more reasonable priced and the food in my opinion has a much better taste! The only people who could possibly like this place are those who actually cook worse at home than than this place, or people who come here for coffee and dessert only. Which are impressive as most diners. Oh, and maybe breakfast, but I haven't tried it here. It's hard to f**k up breakfast. But with lunch and dinner fare, just avoid it. Portions are huge, but so what, if that's the only redeeming factor? I got salmon over mixed greens. The salmon was chum grade with no spicing. This place is horrible and i recommend people to stay away!! My dad ordered a special off thier menu, they have blue cards that have specials on it. For 24 dollars it stated that you get a whole rack of ribs and a crab cake, however my dad on fathers day was brought only a half...my dad read the manager thier menu and he stated that people get it mixed up all the time but the server is suppose to tell you that, in our case the server did not!! To make a long story short he would not honor thier mistake, we stated well we didnt want our food period anymore because the service was distasteful...he said he could not take my crab cake back because I had one bit out of it and he could not sell it because it was eaten...when by law once food is in front of a customer whether they touch it or not Is a lost (infection control)...he told us we could leave after we clearly were going back and forth. So we left, the manager who never gave me his name but said he was the owners son came out following us to get our tags and try to call the police. All this confusion over thier mistake...if your menu is not clear then it needs to be change because people want what the menu says and what they asked for. I really wish I would have gotten a picture of the blue card that stated a whole rack of ribs plus crab cake 24 dollars to really prove my case but I have never been to jail in my life and would never go to jail over 42 dollars worth of food .. the daughter of the manager was rude as well coming out the back door saying oh dont worry i got the tags and walked back in without even knowing what was really going on....I'm so sorry my dad fathers day was spent like this but I would never step foot back in that restaurant again and I hope others would not go to!! read more

Up until today I would have given this diner 5 stars. The food is always spot-on and comfort-inducing as one would expect from the varied menu of any diner worth its salt. As a paid food photographer and writer, I have never given a review for free. Today, everything has changed. The treatment of two elderly women I witnessed today has me appalled. *Please note, this experience did not happen to myself. Rather, to the table in front of me. But I doubt the folks have a Yelp account, so I feel the need to relay their story.* Firstly, the brunette waitress of average height, whose name I did not catch, approached the table in an already irritated state. When asked by the two ladies "what meal the table across from us is having?" They were told by the waitress after she turned and saw the neighbors' meal,"Crab cake dinner." Said the older of the two ladies,"For 12.95?" "No, for $16.95." "Oh," said the ladies, whom had already inquired of their table across the way regarding price, "their meal is $12.95, what are they having?" Impatiently, the waitress looked back over her shoulder, again, and said, "Crab cake sandwich, $12.95." Sooo...meals to these ladies are served, as my meal with my mom is wrapping up. Soon, my mom heads to the restroom, and I am left to hear how the following plays out: Two cups of coffee are plopped down at the ladies' table in front of me. The older of the two ladies asks the waitress for creamer. "It's on the plate, behind the cup." "Oh, I need two please." "There are two, look!" "Oh, I didn't see it," said the older patron. "See, everything you say, I prove you wrong!" Said the waitress, no smile. As she walked away, the older of the two ladies whispered to her companion,"She must be Greek." Now, perhaps not the most enlightened comment. But said quietly, by a woman of at least 80 years, who has just been treated very rudely twice in the last 10 minutes. The waitress heard. She walked up to a fellow waitress, headed towards the kitchen door and said "That old lady over there! She said I must be Greek, looking for a man! Watch out now, hahahaha." (She added that "looking for a man" part). I was cringing, and grateful the older ladies in front of me seem to actually not hear. But the rudeness did not stop! Mom and I were at the counter, paying and the older lady had the nerve to ask her waitress for something: "Excuse me, can I have..." The waitress cut her off. "Were you talking about me?! I heard you talking about me! You said I must be Greek and looking for a man!" "No, I said about you being Greek, not looking for a man." "Yeah I am Greek, you gotta problem with it?!" Now the waitress is yelling. The older lady responds, "No, no, of course not." "The manager is Greek too! You still gotta problem." She is walking away now, and the whole section is shaking their heads. I almost spoke up, but my Mom was oblivious to the whole scene, and a chemo patient, and I didn't want to ruin the nice meal she had just enjoyed. Giving 1 star is actually being generous. If there was a ZERO rating thats what I would have given this place. Had eaten here in the past and the food was really good. So on the way home on a recent trip, we decided to stop here for breakfast. How does one mess up breakfast? I should have realized what we were in for when we walked in the door. The hostess seemed like she didn't want to work that day, because she acted like she had an attitude. Anyway, she showed us to our seats & before we could even sit down, the waiter showed up asking us what we wanted to drink. Guess that was a good thing. In fact, that was probably the best part of the whole experience because it quickly went down from there. We ordered bacon & eggs with cheese. Once we received our food, it was HORRIBLE! The bacon tasted old, the eggs had cheese just thrown on top of it & the home fries were half burned & tasted like they had been sitting aside for hours. NEVER again will we go here. Yesterday, Sept. 7, 2010, I went to this diner for the first time with 2 friends who were regular customers. They always enjoyed their lunches there, even though there were occasional problems with the food. However, on this day, there was a HUGE problem - and I want others to know how poorly and disrespectfully it was handled by management. Not only that, it was the kind of problem that led me to call the Health Dept. soon after we left. BTW, we range in age from early 40's to late 80's in age. We are not inexperienced youth who could mistake something normal as being a problem. We know a problem when we encounter one, despite being told otherwise by the people at this diner! We all ordered the Greek Spinach Pie lunch that day, which came with a side of rice and large tossed Greek Salad. In one of the salads, mixed in with the greens, was what looked like food waste - because it was! It was the crumpled shell of an ENTIRE HALF of a hard-boiled egg! So, it appeared that trash had been thrown into the salad bin and then served to us in three bowls. Two of us told the waitress we did not want them anymore because of this, and they were taken away with hardly an apology and with no offer of replacing the side dish with another salad or something else from the menu. Soon afterward, we were shocked to find ourselves crunching into what seemed to be eggshell in the middle of a mushy spinach filling - in two of the three pies we were served that day, not just one. It was clearly a mistaken ingredient, and it struck both of us as being eggshell immediately. Yet, we were told it must have been the crust, even though the crust had been microwaved and was not even crisp, let alone crunchy. In fact, all of the food we ate that day was terrible, regardless of the eggshells. This restaurant did not show any concern at all about this situation. No profuse apology, no offer to replace the salads with another side dish, and, later, we were even denied our request that they adjust our bill for the salads not eaten. Since none of us enjoyed our lunch from the very beginning and it showed in how we ate very little of it, we thought it appropriate that we be offered some TOKEN discount or gift card to encourage a return visit. When this did not happen, my friend suggested a small adjustment to our bill. When this was actually denied by the manager in back, I asked to speak to him directly. He kept us waiting 15 minutes, even though we asked a second time, and then we had to leave. As my friend was paying the FULL bill (plus a small tip for the waitress), I again tried to explain how this was a terrible experience for us, only to be told that it was impossible for there to have been any eggshell in our main dishes. Eggshell or not, something foreign and extremely crunchy like eggshell was in there, and yet she did not believe me - or their regular customer that they knew well. It was unbelievable to me how we were treated, and how little they cared about the quality of food they served. I simply told that person that I would be calling the Health Dept. that day. Her last words to me were said in a very cocky manner, "That's fine! Bring it ON!" So, I reported this incident and the Health Dept. will be following up to do a thorough inspection I have never been treated with such callousness and disrespect in a restaurant, nor have i ever witnessed such treatment before. As for the food, it really was marginal, with cream of broccoli soup that was mostly thick, flavorless cream and a spinach pie that was mushy and also without much flavor. So, the question is, is it worth going to a place to eat that has so little regard for its customers, even a regular customer? I think not, so I am writing this to warn others. We will certainly be telling all of our friends - and I plan to drop off a copy of this for the Manager of the Silver Moon very soon. read more

Went there for lunch today. We ordered the lunch special Crab cake , Mac&cheese with cream of crab soup. While eating the crab soup, the waiter asked if we wanted some dinner rolls I said sure, dip the rolls in the soup, waiter came back out later with 4 slices of Italian bread that had been microwaved. Within 10 minutes we had our lunch order of the crab cakes. it normally takes 20 to 25 minutes for a crabcake to properly cook. The crab cake sounded delicious but executed poorly. Crab cake inside was cold. Had been precooked then reheated. They took it back and brought out either the same one just nuked longer or another one that had been microwaved. The crab cake was served in the Mac & cheese and it was chewy. Sent it back and told them we are not eating there anymore. The only good thing that came out was they did remove the specials off the bill. The diner has gone down hill over the last couple of years. The menu is enormous and the food indicates that the staff &/or owner no longer cares. This location could use a Gordon Ramsay foot in the ass. Man society until things change or we hear of change we are not going back and I don't recommend anyone going there either until they do. read more
