the service here is terrible. I have been coming for a decade because the food is decent but the service is always terrible and slow. In the last few months I ordered pick up on DoorDash on two separate occasions -- using two different accounts. On both occasions, the restaurant staff said they couldn't find the order on their end. instead of trouble shooting the issue they said it "wasn't their problem" and refused to take up the issue with DoorDash. The cashier had a really bad attitude and spoke with a disparaging tone. On both occasions, I left without my food even though Silvana had accepted my order. Don't waste your time here. read more

The coffee shop crowd was upstairs. The server upstairs was selective in the tables he wanted to wait on this evening. The communal table and most of the booths needed attention, in terms of bussing and wipe down. The place was still half full, however. He eventually came over with his hands on his hips like what do you want. A menu would be helpful, but a Mint tea and an order of grape leaves is fine. Quick and easy, right? Ha! 35 minutes later... He was too involved delivering a candid Stacey Dash impersonation to a pair of Danish tourists, about the knowledge level of his fellow brothers and sisters. Lucky I had a book to read. And a flask. I ordered the fried cauliflower and felafel. I'm a carnivore and I was not impressed by the idea of eating cauliflower. Nevertheless, this meal was surprisingly filling. The dish consisted of large pieces of lightly battered cauliflower, and it was reasonably flavorful - mostly the natural flavor of the vegetable. I lived in Egypt for two years, my family is Egyptian, I've traveled to Turkey, and I've eaten plenty of felafel at various halal carts and restaurants, so I know a thing or two about good felafel. The felafel At Sylvana restaurant was terrible because it lacked seasoning, it wasn't fresh, and, worst of all, the felafel contained a rock inside. Can you imagine chewing a soft food item and suddenly you are interrupted by a loud cracking sound in your mouth?! The poor quality of this meal does not warrant the hefty price tag - it costs nothing to produce felafel, which is a poor mans food in the Middle East, so there is no reason to overcharge for this and serve it with pebbles! I no longer trust this venue, so I will never patron this restaurant again and I would recommend it to an enemy, only. read more

This is a very cute place I went to for the first time about a week ago. I am always on the search for a great coffee shop where I can work and am glad that I stumbled upon this one. They have good coffee here and my friend ordered the pita chips for us.....and when I tell you they were DELICIOUS!! I'm not a huge Pita person, but I can't wait to get back so I can get more of these. Great work environment and beautiful decorations. I've been here about twice to support a boyfriend who was playing with his jazz group and the vibe was out of this world! It's been a while since I came to this bar. I loved the atmosphere, and love that it's so close to Morningside Heights, which is one of my favorite areas. Anyone who frequents bars, must come to this bar at least once, its a place where you can come chill with the guys or gals on a Friday night. I've been coming here every week for the past 4 weeks. The vibe is relaxed and welcoming. The folks who work were are so nice and prompt. Ebby does not particularity favor this Silvana, she does not. No siree. This is only pertaining to the downstairs area as it's the only part of this location I've experienced. I've been three times and I not a fan. I'm not big on the underground music scene at that, so keep that in mind. My first visit was a short one with two friends where we went to the bar for a mere 30 minutes at most. A drink, a quick meal, and off we were. No complaints. My second trip was on a Friday night and I decided to chill with some hookah. BAD. IDEA. Silvana on a Friday night is not a chill spot! It's a flipping house party! I'm not holding that as a negative towards the establishment, because that's their thing. My gripe was the horribly rough hookah that I shelled out my hard earned cash on. Couldn't even smoke it, what a shame. Even still, I didn't think it was a bad spot. My major gripes come from the other night when I went to see my friend perform. She was the DJ and hey, gotta be supportive! I got there an hour prior to her set and the artists before her were pretty average. I can admire all of the talent of those playing live instruments, but the singers... They were reading the lyrics off of their phones. Um. Dude. If you don't know "California Girls" by Katy Perry please don't perform it!! It's also pretty shameful to sing a song and then throw out "IDON'TKNOWTHISLYRIC!" in the middle of a verse. Just... what is that? I did get some hookah (because hey, maybe it got better or I got a bad batch last time!), and while this one was much smoother, it had hardly ANY flavor. It also burned out in AN HOUR. I HAVE NEVER. AN HOUR??? That's far too soon. How pathetic are your coals to die in an hour? For 24 dollars that was a slap to the face. Since I never drink on an empty tummy, I helped myself to the lamb falafel which was good, no harm done. Silvana also sports some solid drinks and if the cocktail menu is daunting, you can always ask the bartenders to make your favs. Their collection of spirits is in no way lacking. Service took eons, mainly because there was one server for the entire downstairs area. I felt for the guy. As someone who used to be a server, I can understand why there was one, but he could have used a helper. Nice dude though. Later in the night, I did run into an issue where the bartender couldn't seem to run my card. This involved me spending 20 minutes between an ATM, getting laughed by a dude at the ATM, and calling my bank (AT 3 IN THE MORNING) and it was PAINLESSLY solved when she entered the number in manually. Such a pain! But the girl made damn good drinks so its forgiven lol The crowd is a mix of people that depends on the time. I talked to numerous patrons, got hit on by a few drunk, ghetto guys (lol of course), I was offered drugs (this was the giggly ATM dude for the record), and still met some cool peeps that I had solid chats with. I wish I lived in Harlem so that I could go to Silvana all the time. The last time I went there was on a Friday and it was great. Silvana is a small music venue (usually jazz but they do have other offerings) that serves amazing food and drinks. There usually is no cover. It's located in the basement with a small stage in the front. There is a small bar to the side. Seating is located in front of the stage and towards the back. I would say this is a good spot for intimate groups. Service is always good and I have never had a problem. Music starts at 6 usually but it doesn't get very full until 8~9. It was surprisingly not crowded but maybe that's because it was a three day weekend and people were out of town. I got there very early on a Friday and was waiting for a late friend. I was one of three people there which was unfortunate because the band that was playing was amazing. I thought it was a dress rehearsal at first! While I waited, I decided to order a Black Sheep. There drinks are great and are made with all natural fruit juice from Red Jacket. Once my friend got there we ordered some food which I recommend. All the food is middle eastern and made with fresh ingredients. The falafel, fluffy potato chips, crispy cauliflower, and the hummus are amazing. All those items are under $10 and the most expensive item on the menu is about $16. I love this spot! read more

Everyone was beyond talented, great stage presence, organized, and professional. The music range was so eclectic and diverse that it's one of my fav nights I've had living here. Silvana is a gem for outdoor seating and performances in a casual environment. The menu is friendly towards all types of dietary restrictions and eaters and is very well-priced for New York and in comparison to some other spots popping up in Central Harlem. Not only are the coffee and food delicious here, but the staff at Silvana always manages to put a smile on my face. I experienced Silvana for the first time and enjoyed myself enough to definitely come back, but this does not mean that there weren't things that could be improved. The things I enjoyed is that it's a great "hipster spot" in Harlem (reminded me of something I'd find in Williamsburg). I also LOVED the diversity, as I came on a Friday night, the crowd was mostly White Europeans and Africans. The mom & pop shop was a nice feel from the typical Hookah Lounge decor and having options from sitting outside on 116th, to inside at their upgraded cafeteria style seating, or downstairs with dim lighting, the bar and a band was nice. The food was pretty good and the portion was decent for $15. Our waitress was very nice, despite messing up things in our order a few times, she would give us the correct thing and let us keep the mistake. Now what I didn't like were the drinks, as I ordered the "Blacksheep" which contains Scotch and Brandy, yet I still tasted no alcohol and my friend felt the same about her drink. You can't get a hookah until after 8pm, which I've never heard of before at any other hookah location. Also the hookah for some reason was a bit harsh. My friend and I have been smoking them for at least 10yrs and we both coughed quite a few times from the rough pulls (which could most likely be fixed by cleaning everything out). Also some of the patio and downstairs furniture wasn't stable, which had our drinks spilling and fearing our incredibly tall hookah would fall on us. Also, only 2 shared bathrooms, so you better pray there's no long lines! And the live bands were hit or miss, some average and some slightly above average, but no one highly impressive (we heard 3 this night and no one blew us away). But nonetheless I would still return to Silvana's when I'm looking for a casual place in Harlem to grab hookah, Middle Eastern food and possibly drinks (maybe if I stick to a basic Jack & Coke my drink will be better, lol). read more

I come to Silvana quite often, whether to do some work, meet up with friends for dinner, or enjoy the bar downstairs. They have free wi-fi and an extensive coffee/tea menu! Their coffee is all good and they have a wide selection of teas (plus you get free refills on water for loose leaf teas!) It is a casual spot, but with waiter/waitress service. I also love to take advantage of their happy hour deals, which range from $4-$6 for beer, wines, frozen margaritas (my favorite), and pina coladas. Lastly, they have a good, but reasonably priced, food menu. Love the fluffy potato chips and falafel pita! This is a great spot to get some work done since they have plenty of outlets and free wifi. Downstairs, they have a full bar with a hookah lounge and frequent live music events. It's fun to come here on weekends to hear live music or new DJs and get a few drinks. Again, drinks are reasonably priced which is a plus! It is usually crowded, but not too crowded, so you can come here with a group of friends. Definitely one of my favorite neighborhood spots! read more

What an amazing spot! I came here when visiting New York and I enjoyed the food and live music. The bartenders were very friendly and had a lot of great recommendations. I got their lamb shawarma and one of their mixed Caribbean cocktails. The food and drinks are pretty decently priced and there were a lot of regulars who came every weekend. There was a jazz performance the night we went and the singers and performers were very talented! There performance was about an 1.5 hours and then another act came on. We left to go to an event but the bartenders told us there's a DJ that comes on and then it turns into a dance party late at night. How to describe this place...? If Starbucks, the Strand bookstore, a handmade jewelry shop, and a dessert cafe all got married and had a baby, this would be it. It's a Williamsburg-y type cafe that is kind of a one stop shop for all those who want to just relax solo or with friends. Several seating and table options and the staff is also non-intrusive which is a plus. We ordered several hot teas, and the ice cream. All were delicious and prices were able moderate. I wouldn't go out of my way for this place but I can totally see it as a great hangout spot for locals in the area! FYI: the earrings and such are $25-35+++ and the lady says "the prices are in the computer and can't be changed" but I feel if you must haggle, it can be done (possibly) read more

Silvana is one of my favorite middle eastern restaurants in Manhattan! The upstairs area is great for studying, and there are a few tables reserved in the back specifically for people who are doing work on their laptops, with a few larger tables in the center for those grabbing meals. The space is beautiful and feels pretty homey, with a lot of natural light. They space also functions as a small shop where theThe basement also has jazz at night and you can order drinks. The menu is awesome and very affordable. I always get the Shakshuka with spicy lamb sausage, which is a pretty large portion. It's so flavorful, even without the lamb sausage. I don't normally order Shakshuka at other restaurants as I feel like it can be a bit soupy at times and potentially not as filling, but this is definitely filling, flavorful, and has a great thickness to it. I ordered it...virtually a plate of yellow rice...almost no lentils, onions, spices. The lamb on top consisted of some burnt and spicy pieces of what was either lamb or coal. Very quality coffee! Had a decaf latte almond milk here and it was very good. I noticed that this place use barista almond milk from Califia Farms so it instantly got my quality approval! My coffee came out to be creamy and so rich. I will comeback when I'm in the neighborhood. I love to support local business and this place deserves a second visit. Went today around 7pm. Band was playing the basement where we sat but it was basically empty down there. Throughout the 2.5 hours we were there, the waitors were not attentive at all. I had to walk up and ask for the check. Other then the less than mediocre customer service- the food was good. I ordered the chicken schwarma. this is my first time eating middle eastern food so I cannot compare or speak on its authenticity. But it was delicious :) to me. DO NOT GO HERE. I would give this place zero stars if I could. My boyfriend and I went for dinner Saturday night and the service was atrocious. The waitresses were not attentive at all. They took forever to bring the menu and take our orders. We waited 20 minutes just to find out that one of our appetizers ran out. The waitress said sorry I forgot to tell you in such an unapologetic manner. We ordered the cauliflower appetizer instead. The chicken shawarma pita sandwich came out and it was disgusting. I was hoping the food would be good at least but nope. My boyfriend said his cauliflower was just okay too. We decided to ask for the bill and head somewhere else. Well they took forever to come to our table. My boyfriend had to get up and ask for the bill.
