I've passed by this place regularly and never thought to stop in since I'm a weird person that doesn't drink coffee. Thankfully, my friend suggested this place for breakfast and we decided to try it out. The cafe area has plenty of seating and is brightly lit. I really liked the pictures inside. Our server Cesar explained that the portraits are from Mexico where their products are sourced. They have a no laptop policy which is great if you want to sit somewhere and simply enjoy your food. We ordered a variety of breakfast specials which are a very reasonable price of $15. I got the country breakfast and my friends ordered the eggs Benedict, and indomable omelette. The pancakes were light and fluffy and came with the most delicious sauce that combined maple syrup with butter. The butter cuts down on the maple syrup's sweetness and just made it the perfect combination with the pancakes. I could actually just drink this sauce by itself, that's how good it was. The kind of coffee shop you want to stay in Recently, me and my mom were walking through our old neighborhood in East Harlem after an appointment. We were on 116th, walking from 3rd to 2nd to catch the bus, when we came across this really cute little coffee shop: Indomable Coffee Co.. At first, we noticed the little order window outside where you can grab your coffee, but then we realized you could actually go inside too. We peeked at the drinks and immediately knew we had to come back for breakfast. And baby... I'm so glad we did. First off, I love that it's a true be present kind of space. No laptops, no people buried in work, no weird "coffee shop office" energy. Just people enjoying their coffee, food, conversation, and the moment. I really appreciated that because culturally, that kind of communal experience means something. Sitting down, sharing a meal, talking, connecting -- it just felt good. Now let's get into the food, because yes. One thing you need to know: they do all-day breakfast for $15, which honestly is such a win these days. You can scan the QR code for the menu, but they also give you a physical menu, and there are so many good options. They also serve lunch, so it's definitely a breakfast, brunch, and lunch kind of spot. For my drink, I got the iced dirty horchata con marzipan, and when I tell you it was everything I didn't know I needed... wow. I'm a coffee girl, and this was perfect. It gave me exactly the energy I needed without having me feeling like I was about to vibrate through the wall. It was refreshing, flavorful, and still had all those classic horchata notes I love. It was so well balanced. My mom got the coconut matcha latte, and I had to try it. It was really good, and she loved it. She's a big matcha girl, so that says a lot. For food, my mom had their breakfast burrito, which is one of their signature staples, and she loved how light but still filling it was. I ordered the caramelized banana walnut pancakes with a side of scrambled eggs because... why not? And let me tell you, those pancakes were EVERYTHING. Perfectly fluffy, cooked just right, not overly sweet, topped with fresh bananas and walnuts, and the sauce was so good. They were super filling too -- so filling that my mom definitely slid over and helped herself to some, and honestly, I don't blame her. Everything tasted fresh and intentional. The service was also really great. Our server was sweet, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. While we were there, we even saw some firefighters stopping in for coffee, which tells me this is probably one of those neighborhood gems people already know about and keep coming back to. The ambiance is exactly what you want in a coffee shop. It's quaint, cozy, homey, and peaceful without feeling stiff or overly curated. It just feels comfortable. We're already planning to go back and try lunch (there's another drink I have my eye on too), so safe to say this spot is officially on my list. Stopped by Indomable before heading to the barber. Had the Tamarindo orange cold brew, a newer item on the menu. I really enjoyed the contrast between the citrus flavor of the orange and the bitterness of the coffee. The tamarind added just the right balance of sweetness to the cold brew and it was a refreshing drink on an August morning. Ordered a bacon, egg and cheese on a brioche bun to go with the coffee. The sandwich was generously portioned, with at least 3 eggs and a copious amount of bacon. The ambiance was great given that they've expanded to include an indoor dining section. I sat outside of the storefront on the benches lining the sidewalk. Service was fantastic, with friendly cashiers and quick preparation of drinks. I used to like this place until today. I ordered the chicken and waffles and what I received was an extremely overcooked piece of dry tough chicken. And a waffle that was so overcooked it was breaking apart like a potato chip. The fact that someone cooked this food, saw how it looked, packed it up and sent it to me is inexcusable. And on top of that, this place is way overpriced, $31 for chicken and waffles?? We are in Harlem not 5th Ave. And after paying all that money I got nothing at all, basically thew the money out the window. read more

Not welcoming for students. They are close to my school and were promoting a $10 back to school latte + croissant that initially caught my interest. I wanted to go inside but saw a sign on the door saying it is a "work free zone" and prohibiting laptops and tablets inside the cafe. I find it strange that they are attempting to attract students to their business and profit off them but refuse to let students go inside and study. Seems like a greedy business practice and I won't be going back since I am looking for a place that I can eat at between classes while I finish my work. This cafe doesn't seem to want to foster a warm, open environment for its community. read more

I'm an individual that has worked in the food industry for over 10 years front and back of the house so this is an honest review from my visit. To start when you walk in you definitely don't feel like you're on 116th in Harlem the ambiance of the restaurant is a 10/10 with the open windows it makes the restaurant feel very spacious. Youre then instantly greeted with a warm welcome from the waiter/barista that makes you feel like you've made the right decision coming to this restaurant. The wife and I both ordered the country breakfast which was only $15 each with their breakfast deal and is definitely a steal! I had the sparking pom lemonade 10/10. The wife had a caramel frap which was little sweet for her liking but the waiter added an extra shot then it was perfect! Sadly to say the reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because I did find a hair in my food but the waiter comped my meal and even offered an alternative on the house. Oh lastly if you do like a lot of pepper on your food be prepared and know they hold the pepper hostage and won't like you put your own desired amount the waiter stated he had to crack it himself which I thought was odd. Overall 4 out of 5 would definitely visit again hopefully next time they have salt and pepper shakers on the table haha read more

Food is always really good fresh and good portions. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. It's a family owned business and you can tell they are very serious about their passion. They just recently opened up a sitting area that is cute and quiet to eat at. I just recently ordered delivery and food came on point and tasted just as good. Small little shop but the drinks are fire, bomb.com, deeelishhhhh I can't wait until I go back to the city so I can have this again! I got the chai tea (which I'm picky about) with almond milk and the sesame bun sandwhich with egg, cheese, and bacon. The bacon was thick and crispy (yummmm) and the bread was fluffy like a croissant. Apparently the croissants here are a big hit, they're always sold out. So if they're not, get it. Second time coming to Don Alejo, this time I ordered the meal for pickup ahead of time as I was in a rush. The breakfast burrito was stellar, just as it was two weeks prior when I went. I came here this morning and I loved it so much. I got the hot chocolate and it reminded me of the hot chocolate my mother made me when I was a child. I loved this place and I had the blueberry danish. The blueberry danish was good but I would say the winner here are the drinks. The blueberry danish was not what I expected; i thought the dough would be flaky and airy. The dough on the blueberry danish was a bit stale and I am willing to go back and try other baked items. I did want to try their breakfast burrito but inside there were only benches. The gentleman did tell me that they are going to have tables outside. Once they have tables outside; I will try other food items. I do want to try their s'mores drink but it was too cold. The customer service was amazing and my hot chocolate was so delicious.
