Silvana is one of my favorites for a date/chill lunch, and when there is live music, it's always a fun time. Their happy hour has really good standard options, especially the margarita ;) Service is a little bit laissez-faire - sometimes I really don't mind, and sometimes I'd rather someone checked in a little more often...BUT either way, staff is very responsive and kind! It's hard to find decent vegan options, and I am never disappointed by the vegan shawarma plate - I ALWAYS get the fluffy potato chips! :) Even better - this colorful, fun space is shoppable, and my apartment boasts a few items from the market. Ok, so if you like food with your partying, this is definitely a spot to try. I'm not sure if the kitchen stays open as late as the club, but the food is good enough to eat here before heading down to an Indy artist or fire DJ. I adore this eccentric spot. They serve real food that hasn't been over processed. We order the salmon salad and couldn't believe how filling and hearty it was. The lady servers were polite and welcoming. We were allowed to sit with our dog inside a special area where other dog owners were enjoying their meal. When I finally decided to try Silvana, I was not expecting this place to be completely mismanaged based off the reviews. While the food here is very, VERY good, the service is not, but it is not the servers fault either. This is clearly a management issue. I arrived this morning for breakfast with my mother. Lovely male waiter told us to sit where we want and we waited a few minutes before he gave us our menus and served us some water. I noticed quickly that this waiter was running food, cleaning tables, making drinks, and closing checks all by himself without a single other worker here, besides a chef that was bringing the food up from the kitchen. Unsurprisingly, the waiter was getting very behind with the growing number of customers, pick up orders, and just overall people trying to leave. At a certain point in our meal, my mother tried to get another latte, to which the waiter informed us of all the drinks ahead of us (about 7-8). It's very disappointing to go to a restaurant and not be able to order an item that I could receive in a timely fashion. I watched many people come in, sit for 10-15 minutes, and get up and leave after no one came to even take a drink order. There is obviously not enough staff here. This came across as non empathetic and a "it is what it is" attitude. A second, female worker finally came in with glasses on that had absolutely no sense of urgency while this poor waiter was still running around like a chicken with his head cut off. Now I have written an entire review on the service of this place without touching much on the food, which is just as important. Like I said, it's disappointing to want to order a drink and be told it would take an unreasonable amount of time. It's also disappointing to order over easy eggs and receive over hard eggs. There were absolutely no yolks which is my favorite part but this place was too busy to even mention it to the waiter so I just took it and ate it. We even ordered extra pita to take home with us which we ended up asking to be removed from the bill because it was taking 20 minutes to receive it. Like I said earlier, the food was very good, but there is no room for criticism or even the ability to correct an order when the service is 30 minutes behind. Management needs to fix this problem or go in and work a Sunday morning shift for themselves. You cannot tell me that is sustainable (OR SAFE???) for one person. Owners need to do better. read more

Horrendous experience. My wife and I ordered a beer, a rosemary tea and a bouraka, the server gave me the beer right away, but we waited over 25 minutes for the rest, it never arrived, then she came to us and ask if we had ordered something, we mentioned we were waiting still for the tea and for the bouraka, but if we could have a refund (I had paid in advance and left a 25% tip) she said that I already paid for it and then stared at us. We asked for it to go, she seemed annoyed and acted like it was our fault. Then she left and preceded to take care of other tables, the place was not even full. After waiting around 10 minutes more, she gave us the to go items. No apology or have a nice afternoon. After we left, we checked the to go bag and saw we were given the wrong flavor, which may or may not have been intentional, but felt likr returning to get our correct order would be met with more hostility. A kind word or simple apology would have gone a long way. Not coming back. read more

I have been coming to Silvana for years for live music but this was my first time eating there. Food - 3.5/5 in nyc it's tough competition for middle eastern. The cauliflower was AMAZING we ate it up. We shared the chicken plate which was enough for 2 people but hit or miss. The chicken itself was well-seasoned and yummy. The babaganoush was nothing to write home about and the fluffy potatoes were too greasy. Next time I want to try the Mujaddara because it looked really good. Drinks 4/5 - we got 3 cocktails total and they were STRONG, $15 but you get what you pay for. My friend returned the Arak Limonana (green drink with anise) because it was too strong. I had the spicy sababa tequila which was strong but palatable. They also made us a mojito. Later in the night I got the chamomile rose tea while we listened to music. I love that the bar serves tea even downstairs! They gave me honey as well. Service 5/5 - The service was excellent our waitress was super helpful giving recommendations and making sure our dishes didn't have cumin (food allergy.) The food is excellent, however, the service is quite slow and efficient, hence the reason for four stars. I think the best item here is their falafel plate, which comes with four big falafel Pattie's on a bed of tahini and several small salads and hummus, along with a choice of 2 sides. For $14, this is a great value for an absolutely delicious snack. We always get the fluffy potato chips which are really flavorful along with their fattoush salad. Another great item is the babaganoush. This roasted, eggplant dip is incredibly smoky, and the smoked paprika on top gives it great flavor. The pita they serve with it is extremely soft and fresh as well. We have tried other dishes in the past, like their cauliflower appetizer, but it just misses the mark. Lovely spot with live music downstairs. A date recommended this place as one of three spots. I went with here and I'm happy I made this choice. The food was delicious and I took a chance on what I ordered. I wasn't sure what it was but it sounded good. It was called a beef cigar. The beef was delicious but not as spicy as I would've liked. The crispy wrap around it was cooked to perfection and crispy. Prices aren't too bad but we managed to rack up a bill. It's hard to complain though when staff gave us two extra free drinks. The falafel is far from the best I've ever had though. I thought it was overcooked, not that it was burnt or anything. My date thought the drink was a little watered down but they did fix it for her. I've been here a handful of times since moving to Harlem. The food consistently is delicious. The staff changes around a few times and I've seen a couple of the same faces. Each and every single person that works here is also incredibly kind and knowledgeable about the food offerings. I love the fact that it's located right in front of a bus stop so it's quick in and quick out to get your food. I usually get the frozen margarita and then the platter that has the different meats and sauces with pita bread. Portions are also big enough for a second snack (but not meal). read more

It's great when a place goes for a very laid back and casual vibe ("shanti" as we say in Israel), but when that vibe translates to uncomfortable chairs, wobbly tables, extreme understaffing, excessive wait times and order mixups, then the very objective of such vibe - relaxation - is defeated. This place is really good when u hit it. Sometimes it's a miss and it doesn't have a lot of taste. Like their falafels don't come with a lot of flavor. It comes packed with tahini sauce but still besides that and the pickles you want more layers of flavor which it doesn't always have. The fluffy potatoes are good. A little oily honestly so def share those with someone. I love their fries eggplants and they have some good sides like a cabbage and tomato salad. I'm not a fan of their hummus but I do like their eggplant sandwich with a lot of hot sauce and we good. Their Turkish coffee is ok nothing too crazy but good. read more

We came here around 7:30pm on a Monday night when they had a jazz concert going on downstairs. The restaurant has a really funky cool ambiance and they sell trinkets/jewelry/cards as well. Their menu is vegetarian/vegan friendly! The pita, hummus, and crispy eggplant appetizer were absolutely delicious and drinks were really strong! CON: The service was definitely lackluster. The waitress we had couldn't explain what any of the Mediterranean side dishes were and she had to ask the chef what the Vegan shawarma was made of (it's Seitan). My friend waited for her drink for over 30 minutes. Their excuse was the live jazz downstairs is slowing down the bar but they brought our my more complicated drink first. They brought us crispy cauliflower when we had ordered crispy eggplant and put it on the bill even though we sent it back. They corrected the mistake right away but it was just overall really bad service. Overall, I would recommend coming her for the food but don't be shocked if you receive subpar service. read more

This is a local place in harlem and i'd highly recommend. Their menu has so many options and is super cheap. The hummus was huge! I shared it with FOUR people and still had leftovers. the pita bread is warm and soft, perfect for dipping. the crispy caul was some of the best i've had, the tahini sauce is perfectly savory as well. they have a really good happy hour as well, so i'd recommend taking advantage of this. the non alc drinks are also on the happy hour so that's really cool to note for my non drinkers (like myself) the interior was really nice as well, looked like a family / homey style. there is a downstairs area that usually plays music and is more of like a bar style, so check that out as well! overall, it's one of the best Mediterranean places in harlem i've found, where the prices and the portions are epic. i'll be coming back here!! read more

So I came here to see a friend perform but sadly they were not performing anymore. Which means I travels all the way from LI to west side for hmmm ... well there were still 3 bands playing I can't recall their names so don't ask but one played jazz one played pop in English and Spanish and one played reagee. No one band was particularly awesome but all decent enough. Service was crazy slow. Bar tender took so long that unloaded the happy hour price. I did t make a fuss I just paid. At one point. They cleaned the bathroom which I'm assuming was needed if they had to do it at the point they did but then the place smelled of cleaning products for the next 30 min. The drinks were fine nothing special. I had the crispy cauliflower it was decent have definitely had better other places. Overall an okay spot I would go if I was I. The restaurant is like a museum. Oozing with cultural influences. There is all this African, middle east and Mediterranean art scattered everywhere. My table was next to the records where a 1984 NewEdition vinyl was visible. There are beautiful art and knick knacks for sale everywhere. It's a bit weird when ordering food because supposedly they take your order but after 20 mins of waiting I went up and placed an order. i had the chicken platter and it didn't disappoint. Had hummus, salad, pickled onions, pitas, chicken, crisp chips. I love the idea of constructing your dish and rolling up your sleeve and creating your food. They have a pretty impressive HH from 4-8 which mixed drinks for 5 and beer/wine for 4 I believe. I will be back for the drinks. read more
