An important thing to know about Silly Goose is that it has many identities. On most nights, it is a swanky atmosphere for a casual hang out. Thursday nights are hilarious trivia nights. Saturdays, the bar might as well be ON Beale St, given the crowd that comes out. And during the daytime, it's great spot to sneak a drink with lunch, or sit on their porch for a drink with your dog. Aside from trivia night, Saturday and Sunday morning/afternoons are my very favorite. You can get $5 (I think that's right..) mimosas or bloody marys, made to your liking with ingredients from their open bloody mary bar! They give you a tall glass with vodka in the bottom and you add anything you've ever wanted in a bloody mary. They have 3 kinds of V8, 5 hot sauces, celery, carrots, peppers- whatever you need to make your ideal drink. I like experimenting with mine; making them a little different or more abrasive every time. Food wise, their hummus is good and they have an occasional omelet bar. I will definitely update this review in the future when I've spent more time here, but based on the hour I was there on a Monday, it was pretty fun. They have a nice little patio for people watching (although if you have a problem with smoking, maybe don't sit out there), and the Happy Hour prices were very good, especially for downtown. The interior has some really neat decorating which gives it a great atmosphere, and the bartender was nice and helpful in explaining the happy hour pricing to us and getting us served the minute we walked in the door. After reading some of the reviews a small group of is decided to try this place out. The atmosphere sucks compared to Swig that was the locations previous bar. Our waitress was HIGH AS A KITE and had to be reminded 5 times to bring us a menu....and she only brought one for a table of 6.....I know right?!?!? When I inquired about food our waitress said it would be better to go to McDonalds. (ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!?) The only positive experience we had was that the bartender did a great job crafting our drinks. My extra dirty stoli martini was excellent. We go to the goose often. Pretty badass bar in terms of layout and decor. The owner really does put some thought into making it a one of a kind place here in Memphis who lets face it, has their shortage of swanky watering holes. We went for a party last night which they reserved a spot for us and we partied it up. Let me add the mixed drinks they do and the drinks that are actually cocktails instead of some generic pour or premixed junk. Thought goes into those drinks so grab one while you're there, they always have a new one to share. The crowd is always full of pretty people and if you're single, there's not a better place to hunt. I like this place. It's a dark on the inside but they have an outdoor patio with heaters. Nice wood furniture with comfortable seating. A few TVs inside. This bar seem to be very laid back and the bartender was very nice! I would definitely would return. read more

My husband and I were in Memphis to visit a friend and enjoyed our time at Silly Goose. We had seen it on Drinking Made Easy and made sure to stop by. The bartender (manager?) was great! He was super friendly and knew how to make a great cocktail. After some conversations about bourbon he suggested a sazerac, which is one of my favorite drinks. It was delicious! We stopped by a total of 3 times on our trip and it was great that we were remembered. He even remembered that I like my bourbon neat, not on the rocks. Talk about customer service! Their happy hour prices were also a steal and worth checking out. We did not experience nightlife here but it seemed like one of the places to be. As with the rest of the space, their bathrooms were very clean and attractive. However, the hand dryer is in a really odd place. It is up high (like above my head) and over a mirror. This means that when you dry your hands the water can blow into your face if you're short like me, not to mention the mirror has constant water marks on it. Not a huge deal, just odd. My friends and I popped into the Silly Goose on a Saturday after dinner. We decided we would only do drinks, so we didn't need menus. The atmosphere was ok at best. We sat on an old sofa that had seen its better days. The server suggested certain drinks to begin, & I started with a pomegranate martini. It was very flavorful & I loved it. As the night progressed, I found some recipes for the bar tender to whip up for me, & he did a great job! The cocktails were fabulous! About an hour after we arrived the business began picking up. Some drunk guy came to our table & annoyed the crap out of us for at least 10 minutes. Ugh.... Once it became more busy, it was difficult to get our servers attention. The bar also became more loud with all the talking & I believe they turned up the music. Even though the cocktails were delicious, they charge $10 a pop! I could go elsewhere & have them make me cocktails for a cheaper price. All in all it was an experience. They don't charge cover, which most do downtown. On our way to an Orpheum concert, we were shut out of our usual place, started walking and came across Silly Goose. What luck! It was warm, very pub-like in appearance, very welcoming. We asked if they had a food menu and were told everything was homemade. My husband ordered a margarita, which he said was great. I ordered plain ginger beer (designated driver) and was told it was homemade, too. It was excellent, just enough ginger to pop, not enough to overwhelm. I had one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches (diagonal sliced french bread) I've had anywhere, accompanied by a small but rich cup of homemade tomato basil soup - just enough, Husband raved about his burger and was equally impressed with his side salad and fresh, chunky blue cheese dressing. The server was friendly, helpful and kept us advised of the time (of course we had no watch, cell phones in car) so we'd make the show on time. All in all, a friendly, comfy neighborhood bar just crowded enough to feel part of the group, not so crowded we got lost in the crush. Highly recommend it for happy hour, quick lunch or burger. My friends and I entered this establishment a little after 8pm we sat outside on their patio near the street. After acquiring a tab of over $100, we were told because it was after 9pm, we had to pay $5 to come inside and use the restroom. We spoke with the manager and he said this was a "new rule". I'm all for establishments running things the way they want to run them, however, that is the biggest BS I've ever heard. As a guest who is patronizing your business, I should be able to use your restroom just as I would had I not chosen to sit on the patio. Furthermore, had my party been informed about this "new rule" we would have never decided to spend our funds there. Our waitress was nice, but completely ill-informed. There was once a time when Silly Goose was my hangout. You could find me here multiple times a week with the girls. And definitely every Thursday for trivia with Charles. Young professionals were at every table...but this isn't the case anymore - at all. My main complaint is that the vibe has completely changed. This might be because there is an entirely different crowd but there is blaring music, the whole place is basically a sticky dance floor and there is little room to sit. I liken it to a mini-152...but not nearly as awesome. But what made me vow to never come back to this place was the treatment I received on my birthday last year. My girlfriend made a reservation for 9:45 and even received a confirmation phone call. In that phone call, she was told we needed to get there before 10 because the couches would not be held after then. We were late from dinner and arrived at 10:30. I went to the bar and asked Dusty, the bartender, about the reservation and if it would be possible to still get the couches. I told him our reservation was 9:45. He told me that he was in charge of the restaurant that night and that there weren't even any reservations that night in one of the most condescending tones I have ever heard. My girlfriend, who made the reservation, approached Dusty at this point and when she spoke to him, he said my "story didn't add up." All I said was my reservation time was 9:45 under my name. I understand that we were late, and if the couches were gone, that is our own fault. But for Dusty to be so rude to be, particularly when I stated it was my birthday, was ridiculous. I liked Silly Goose enough to want to have all of my friends come and spend my birthday with me there. And then Dusty even admitted to my friend who made the reservation there was a no show reservation at 9:30. How did my story not "add up" when I was only 15 minutes off? And there were obviously reservations made that night if there was a "no show." Dusty finally offered for us to come to the bar for shots on him as a way to make amends but I did not go back up there. Fortunately a group was leaving when we arrived and we were able to sit on the couches where we could order drinks from a very nice waitress. If you somehow still want to go here, try and get a membership card. I'm not sure how you get one (mine was given to me one night by the bouncer), but if you have one, you don't have to pay the ridiculous cover. read more
