The view from Beck & Call is absolutely incredible, but the drinks were mediocre for the price. My friends and I all got espresso martinis and they all tasted completely different. The bartender did offer to fix one of them that was way too sweet, but for a $17 drink I would expect it to be done correctly the first time. The space is beautiful and well done, patio is large and offerd sweeping views of the river and downtown. However, the service is trash. The bartender couldn't seem to remember a simple order or make a basic old fashioned from the menu and couldn't remember to bring the food or what we even ordered to bring us the correct food- but when we did finally get it the food was equally disappointing. Let me just start by saying I am not at all a bar/lounge person, but I wanted to step out of my comfort zone on my date night with hubby and I saw this fairly new spot on Yelp. It's located inside the Hyatt hotel downtown on Beale. Well, I ended up loving it!! Mature crowd and a very good DJ. Music was spot on all night. It was an awesome vibe and I really enjoyed myself. The rooftop part outside has its own separate vibe from the inside and if it wasn't so chilly last night, I would've stayed out there and enjoyed the views all night. Note that I normally will not leave a negative review often, and usually never after only one visit. However, this was a little different. My wife and I wanted to like this place. We love rooftop restaurants and bars that have great views. This location does have great views, but I can't recommend much else. We didn't try food or drinks because we couldn't get the waitstaff to acknowledge we were even there. My wife went in and asked three different waiters for some menus and a drink and was ignored. As-in they didn't even appear to notice she spoke to them. The upside is that you can head up there, after showing your ID at the lobby elevator for no apparent reason, and watch the sunset across the Mississippi River without getting hassled to buy something. The valet is only for overnight guests although the website does not specify that - The valet team is inattentive and unfriendly - Our party was in a private section , but other people not related to the party could walk thru the area to get to another side of the venue - They require you to start a tab or pay with cash - Very pricy - two cocktails and an order of wings was $70. - It's no signage or guidance pointing guests to the correct elevator for the rooftop entrance . Best view in Memphis! Worst service in Memphis! I so hate writing negative reviews, but this could not go ignored. My wife and I visited B&C 6:00pm, May 1. Since the bar opened at 4:00pm I assumed they would be set up and ready to serve, but not the case. Also, there is no waitstaff. You must stand at the bar, hope the get the attention of the bartender, and take your drink with you. If you would like to order food, you get to get up from your seat, go back to the bar and again wait for assistance. The food was palatable at best. I am not how this is going on in a Hyatt property. It is obvious that you come to Beck & Call for the rooftop view. Other than that, there is not much to this place. Let's start off with the hospitality. There is none. When I say none, I mean none. My wife and I took the elevator up to the restaurant and when we got to the restaurant floor, no one said hello or anything. We were like, what do we do and where do we go? Do we wait to be seated or do we seat ourselves? Then, you immediately realize that the restaurant space is stuffy. By stuffy I mean that it appears that no one paid the bills on the air conditioning because it was hot. It appeared that the bar tender was the only one working to serve several guests and he appeared overworked and stressed. At times he came off as rather rude to the guests because he was trying his best to take all of the orders and he was by himself. You had to know exactly what you wanted because there was no way that he was coming back to check on you, once he served you. We also never got the water to go with our drinks and the so called charcuterie board that we ordered. Speaking of charcuterie board, they shouldn't even call it that. Their charcuterie board was disrespectful to whoever the person was who first created the charcuterie board. The board tasted like it was made from cheese and meats that you could easily by at any corner store or gas station. This place could be something special, but it is lacking in a lot of areas. My highest recommendation is that if you are looking for a good rooftop restaurant to visit in Memphis, go to Tiger and Peacock. Don't waste your time with this place. If it wasn't for the rooftop view, I would have given this place one star. read more

Recently hosted a happy hour for a convention at the hotel at Beck and Call on a Thursday evening. The arrangement was anyone with a wristband would be on 1 tab. Unfortunately the lazy staff didn't want to work and 85% of the attendees were denied access to the space. They were told the space as at max capacity. When I was finally granted access (after asking the concierge to call management directly) the space had about 50 people in it. With empty seats at the bar!!!I've hosted events there that were triple in size. And the max occupancy for the space is 351. The bartenders were rude and put out that they had to do actual work. The drinks are WAY over priced. The AC is almost non existent. The security working the elevator was in the biggest saddest power trip I've ever seen. If they continue to operative this way I dont See them being open long term. read more

Downtown Memphis has been severely lacking in the number of bars and restaurants with views of the Mighty Mississippi, so I was very excited to see Beck & Call open on the rooftop of the new Hyatt Centric. The view is amazing, and the interior decor is modern and airy, which goes well with the expansive view. I ordered the Blood Orange Cosmo and suffered a bit of sticker shock at the $16 price tag, but man-oh-man this was a strong drink. I still think it was overpriced, but they weren't skimping on the vodka. And despite how stout it was, the blood orange flavor was still very present. I really liked how many local beers and other Memphis drinks were on the menu. I tried the "I'm In Love With the CoCo" hard seltzer from Grind City Brewing. I can't believe I haven't had a coconut-flavored seltzer yet, but it was so good. It's such a light and refreshing drink for summer. The only negative part of our visit was at the elevator in the lobby, where a security guard informed us that one member of our party was not adhering to the dress code and therefore could not enter. I'm still not sure what exactly the dress code violation was. We were disappointed but didn't want to cause a scene, so we started walking away to find another place. We then heard a whistle and turned around to see the security guard motioning us back to the hotel entrance. He told us that as long as the member of our party who was not adhering to the dress code didn't cause any problems, we could enter. But if she did, we would be banned from the bar for life. I'm fairly certain he was joking, but it was such an uncomfortable exchange, especially for the women in our group. Once we got to the rooftop, it was obvious to see that the dress code was being selectively enforced. I understand wanting to maintain an upscale atmosphere, but if you can't enforce a moderately ambiguous dress code, you shouldn't have one. My recommendation if you go: call ahead to make sure you have the most up-to-date dress code and can dress accordingly. Thankfully, everything else about our experience was great. Finally made it to Beck & Call. Last night, Friday the 3rd around 10:20pm. The lift man near the elevator downstairs hyped up the drinks at the upstairs bar so much he had my friends and I really excited to try them. He even told us the lemon drops were comparable to the taste and quality at Coastal Fish. If you don't know, Coastal Fish makes some of the best Lemon drops in town. This is not an advertisement for them, it's simply a fact to help illustrate my point. Before I get back to talking about the drinks I'd like to acknowledge that the bar is trendy, decor is on point and there is a great vibe overall. Also the rooftop views of the river, bridge and Beale street are incredible-which is the reason this review is getting any stars. Anyway, we walked up to the bar and we were served quickly. We ordered Lemon drops and Mojitos. The bartender made the mojitos first. After he mixed and poured the alcohol into our drinks they were only about 60% full. He proceeded to spray soda from his spray gun to fill them the rest of the way up. Really?!? 40% club soda in a mojito?!? This was another red flag, especially after he failed to muddle the mint or squeeze lime juice into the drinks. We get it, some lazy bartenders don't like making mojitos correctly because it takes effort, but come on man, you literally have one job right now and the bar isn't very busy. SMH Next, he made the lemon drops. The lemon drops came out looking sad with zero sugar on the rims, a sugared rim is fairly standard. My wife asked for a glass with a sugared rim. He immediately said, it's a little late for that. She said, sugar on the rim is standard. Once again, he said, No, most people don't want that. Really?!? Everyone (we know) wants it, it's a staple of the drink my guy. We were pretty much speechless at this point. But we get it, the service can be pretty shoddy in Memphis, and this was definitely another prime example of that. He begrudgingly made a new glass with sugar- when he realized we were going to be waiting for it to be corrected. Upon getting our drinks, we went outside to 'enjoy' them. OMG. The drinks were terrible. Upon trying both drinks we quite frankly did not know what we were drinking. The mojitos tasted like Mezcal and soda. We are pretty sure he made the drinks with Mezcal. And the Lemon drops tasted like.... Ummm. No idea. Jungle juice maybe. Meaning a strange assortment of alcohol and fruit. Indescribable is the term I'd use. How can you mess up basic drinks sooo badly that the fundamental tastes are no longer present?!? If you are coming here to enjoy some staple mixed drinks- be ready to be disappointed. We went into Beck & Call for the first time ever and sat at the bar. It was a nice night so the rooftop was a perfect place to be, but something told me to sit at the bar and I'm so glad we did. Chris was our bartender and he absolutely made our night. His knowledge and expertise of the cocktails was everything. He was friendly, funny, and fun to talk to. I tried 3 totally different cocktails and each one was SO delicious! I'm so glad we came and I hope everyone gets to experience Chris and beck & call at least once in their life. 10/10!!! read more

Do not come to this place on a Saturday night. I'll start by saying the drinks were pretty good, a little pricey, but I'm visiting from another big city so it's a typical rooftop drink price. The ambiance and decor was cute. Gratuity is automatically included in your bill, which is smart because none of this staff deserved a tip. I usually am very empathetic to restaurant staff especially in today's times where everyone seems to be short staffed. But this place was understaffed and did not have a plan on how to manage the capacity of the bar on a Saturday night. We waited about 30 minutes to even be acknowledged by a waiter after we flagged him down. We were told by the waiter, Tucker, that he doesn't have the capacity to serve us and I quote "I just can't do this" and that we needed to order at the bar inside (we were sitting outside, we weren't told at the outside bar that we could order food inside, only that the server would take orders). Tucker continued to wait on only one table the rest of our time here. The bartenders inside told us that 2 people called out today which is understandable but the entire staff needs to be on the same page about directives they're giving customers. The bartenders inside told us two different things about ordering food. One told us that it would be brought out to us and the other told us that we had to come back up to the bar to grab our food when we were done in approximately 25-30 minutes. This review is purely based on the changes of clientele. We walked in and we're immediately turned off by the smell of marijuana. It was so bad that we had to spend the rest of our evening outside. The dress code was not being enforced, and many had on tracksuits and street wear. It's Memphis, so I understand people won't be dressed in tailored clothes, but we should draw a line somewhere. We stayed, because we LOVE the bartenders and cocktails here, but this bar is becoming something else. We went several times during our stay and each night had a different vibe but always fun, welcoming and each visit was memorable. The cocktails were perfect...the bartenders definitely know what they're doing. Chris C. was our bartender for most of our visits and he always made sure we were doing ok and really took care of us. And let me just say, he really knows how to liven up the room and turn it into a party every time. He makes you feel like you're visiting a bar at home and you're there with close friends. He is a true gem. Thank you Chris! And the DJ that was there on Friday was also very good...knows how to read the room and played all the right music and made sure everyone was having a good time. If it's a little chilly out they have a nice sized outside fire pit (just on one side) that will keep you nice and toasty all night. Apparently, showing any skin in your midriff is too scandalous for this establishment, even though my friends came here last week in a crop top shorter than what I wore tonight. Not only that, the drinks came to $24, but after their surcharge, tax, another tax, tourism fee and then they don't give you back the right change. Paid with a $50, and was give $5 back. So I ended up paying $46 for 2 drinks because the bartender stole $5 and then I paid 20% surcharge at $5 and I left him another $1. And they charge $2 for soda as in the mixer in your drink that already costs $12. Are you kidding me? Gross. Won't be coming back. I'm not from Memphis and I'm happy to pay what a drink costs but this place will nickel and dime you. No thanks. Better places out there and the drink was garbage weak. $46 for water is awesome.
