Just don't do it. They have filed chapter 11 and I think are moving to chapter 7. We lost around 18k with them.

Sierra Nevada Builders should be held up as the poster child of why people are (and should be), wary of dishonest contractors. We were duped into paying better than 12K for a "tail light contract" (one that is only good until you can't see their tail lights as they drive away). Even if you know former clients of the contractor check 'em out. Granted, SNB did beautiful work for many years in the Reno area, most of the reviews on this page are true, and based on that, and having seen his work at the home of a friend's, we signed up to have him build a project at our new home. Took our money and that was the last we heard of him. Turns out he was in Chapter 11 when he took our money and subsequentially closed his business permanently last month. ALWAYS, Always, always... check with your state's contractors board and your local Better Business Buearu first. And get 3 estimates, let our pain be your gain! It wasn't until after we and the Nevada State Contractors Board (NSCB) tried REPEATEDLY, beginning October 2025, to have you / SNB finish our project (never finished) that you / SNB were deemed to have ABANDONED our job. And, even if you were "fired", what makes you think you are entitled to keep all our money? You currently have NO SURETY BOND, which is required by law. We have paid them over $20,000 dollars and they cannot bother to return a phone call. According to the BBB they have filed for bankruptcy. Updated to include a response to Bryan: I want to respond factually and clarify the record, as this public reply is the first communication we have received from you since June 2025, besides the one mediated email with the investigation team at the NSCB. We did not "fire" Sierra Nevada Builders. The project was abandoned. Only one day of work was performed on our project. After that, work stopped entirely. There were design revisions and new permits obtained between February and June 2025. Once the permits were approved and the project was cleared to proceed in June 2025, you never returned, never provided a schedule, and stopped responding to our calls and emails. We made repeated attempts to contact you over several months, all of which are documented. After 5 months of no work, no communication, and no timeline -- and with nearly $23,000 of our money still in your possession -- we had no choice but to cancel the contract. At no point did you acknowledge our cancellation or refund request. To date, no refund has been issued, and this Yelp response is the only contact we've had from you since June 2025. Your statement that this was due to "impatience" is not accurate. The project was fully permitted, we waited months without progress, and we made every reasonable effort to resolve this before cancelling. Sierra NV Builders helped to put in some stairs in my parents garage so they were able to easily access the garage (they have some mobility issues). I appreciated that they took on this small but very impactful job. They were easy to reach and did quality work. This is the second time I have used Sierra Nevada Builders for patio covers. This last project was a big one 15x20 cover over our patio. The plans were drawn, approved by the HOA and the City. They had to remove a small cover that was there when I purchased the home. everything was cleaned up, holes filled etc. The material arrived and they went to work. creating the holes for the new posts, approval of the City inspector. Then the new patio was installed. Once they completed the cover, they cleaned up the complete back yard and surrounding areas. All the workers were polite and interested in doing a great job. Bryan and crew are an amazing team of professionals. They recently completed a large patio covering for us, and my wife and I could not be happier with the materials, quality of the build, and the price. I've always felt that one of the true signs of a good company is the fact that they are always busy. When we signed with SNB in the fall of 2019, they seemed somewhat reluctant to tell us that their estimated completion date wasn't until after the first of the year. I would 100% rather have a realistic timeframe than deal with someone who promises to have it done "in a few weeks" and never returns calls. I was reluctant to begin my landscape project when Reno was put into self- isolation because of COVID-19. Bryan came out to bid our job and went over different options, colors, timeline, sizes and pricing. He was very knowledgable and professional. Great company! I hired them to do a huge patio cover and am so happy with the level of professionalism that I had them spec 2 bathrooms for remodel this winter. I've had a number of projects done to homes in various cities and states so know what good work looks like. I was really impressed with the attention to detail and the protection of my property. Just finished having an awning and BBQ gable built by Bryan, Sierra Nevada Builders. Our home is in Sparks Nevada. This awning, BBQ cover was a long time coming. As the home owner, I had several companies come out to bid the job. Of course in the beginning I did not want an awning so I did things a bit backwards. I had the "paver patio" and benches installed first. Then decided that a patio was needed. All of the companies that I called out had the same story, we will have to dig four foot by four foot footers for the posts. That meant tearing up half of the "pavers" to install the posts. I called Sierra Nevada Builders, and met Bryan, who is the owner. He explained the reason the other companies have to tear out your patio for their footers is because they do not do or submit an engineered plan. His company first flew the property with a drone to get the 3D view for the drawing. Then they have the plan engineered. I did not want a "cookie cutter awning" like every other awning you see. I wanted to stand out with a gabled roof covering over the BBQ area for character. Bryan, gave me 3D drawing with two separate plans to choose from. Once the plan was chosen, Bryan had his engineers get the plan together to be submitted to our HOA. Brian was there throughout the entire HOA process, to get the gable approved we had to ask the HOA for a three foot variance. Bryan was again there every step of the way. The HOA wanted to do a walk thru of the property prior to approving the variance. Bryan made sure he was present the day of the HOA walk thru to answer any questions they might have. Once the HOA had approved the variance, Bryan submitted the plans to the City of Sparks. He also obtained all of the needed permits. So by now you are thinking the cost must have been outrageous for this project. The answer is not outrageous at all. In fact, the gabled portion was a bit more, but the final product and the peace of mind knowing that all the correct permits are on file, and having engineered plans for the City Inspector to sign off was priceless. Sierra Nevada Builders crew were polite, respectful, and at the end of each work day the work area was cleaned up. If you are thinking of an awning project, or any other type of build at your home, I would contact Sierra Nevada Builders. You will not be sorry. Remember the pavers I was worried about removing, was not an issue. Approximately 12 paver blocks were removed in total for all of the footings. They were put back in, and no one would ever know they had been removed. Don't wait, call Sierra Nevada Builders for any of your backyard needs. read more
