My family and I came here for the Thanksgiving long weekend. I didn't have high expectations for this place. But I booked this based on the location and how it aligned with our itinerary. I like how spacious the rooms and living area was. I also liked the size of the kitchen and the quiet location. We're surrounded by trees and get fresh air. I even went for a morning run to scout the area. Except for the kitchen stove and oven, which were a little dirty. We got everything we needed. It was easy to request things that were missing: dishwashing soap, paper towels, etc. It's not fancy, but it has a lot of character. It's very convenient gateway to the sequoia national park. It's also close to the convenience store and places to get food.

As you would at the Bate's Motel, barricades the door. As their was no deadbolt or safety for an early warning.

What I wrote was first blush. It went down hill from there. The shower was built for those under 5' 6, the toilet was aboue16" tall, and the anemic AC unit had the big bright LED display shining right into mirror doors on the closet. Effectively lighting our room like the Vegas Strip. With the apparent granite slab for a bed and (my best guess) a rolled up gunnysack for my pillow....the night was less than restful. Off the 6 of us that stayed, only my son got a decent night's sleep on the couch with the AC in his room give him a nice, cool night of sleep. We left the lodge more exhausted thane when we arrived at 10 in the evening. The real kicker was the manager trying to tell us the one AC unit ( which was low on refrigerant) wD set too low. And didn't want to hear that the room wS 80° when we checked in an was already set to the lowest temp when we entered the room.

When looking to drop by Sequoia National Park, there were only 2 rooms available on Hotels(.com) for a reasonable price and I chose Sierra Lodge; reviews weren't great, not horrid, but I was curious as to what the real experience would be. We got in late, but before closing, and it took a few minutes for service as he was on the phone. He was very pleasant and efficient once he was available. The room was clean, bigger than expected and would do for the 5-6 hours of sleep we'd allotted before charging out to our adventure. The room was HOT and remained hot-ish all night despite the AC being on (there's a sign that says to not drop it below 70 or you may be charged if it froze up). The shower definitely didn't have hot water, but it wasn't freezing. Makes for a quick shower though. They do have plenty of signs and warnings about what you'll be charged for if you do certain things, so be mindful (Smoking in room, AC below 70, flushing anything non-toilet paper are the three I saw) Oh yea, the parking. It's a narrow in/out driveway, but almost all the parking spots are slanted making maneuvering to get out difficult, unless you back all the way back to the front. Overall, I'd stay again for a quick sleep, but don't book your honeymoon.

Three stars perfectly sums up our experience at Sierra Lodge. A place like this makes Motel 6 look like the overachiever. A relatively low cost for a night's stay and close proximity to Sequoia National Park are pretty much the main reasons why anyone would stay here. Upon arriving, you'll quickly notice that the parking lot is small so extra caution is needed to maneuver in and out. Check-in was quick with the friendly and mellow manager of the lodge. While some of the other reviews cited dirty accommodations and unwelcomed guests such as roaches, we are happy to report we had none of those save for some ants. Sheets, pillows, and the beds all appeared to be fine. The room is a mix of old, antiquated design with some modern upgrades sprinkled in. This includes power outlets with USB ports and newer lighting fixtures. Most underwhelming of all was probably the bathroom. The faucet aerator was either broken or missing because water out of the faucet was uncontrolled and messy. The tub was a bit on the small side and fixtures within seemed loose. There is no restroom fan, but there was a tiny window that can be opened for ventilation. Unfortunately, for our room, the window was right next to the main road, meaning sneaky eyes can easily peek in. The free breakfast was a thoughtful touch, but you are better off bringing your own food. What was offered included sugary baked goods, cereal, milk, and instant oatmeal. The coffee was fine, but Starbucks looks gourmet in comparison. As mediocre as this stay was, it cannot overshadow the grandeur and stupefying beauty that I have witnessed while at Sequoia National Park.

DO NOT USE THIS HOTEL! DISGUSTING The comforter was BLOODSTAINED and we asked for a replacement. We were given one that was equally DISGUSTINGLY FILTHY; it has HAIRS on it. We showed the manager how dirty the replacement was but he declined to even look at it. We asked for another replacement but he REFUSED, saying he would give us a blanket. It is WINTER !!! Even budget hotels should BE EXPECTED to provide decent clean beddings. STAY AWAY from this hotel. And yeah, the manager was RUDE!

    Infested with roaches!!!

This is by far the worst place I have ever been to in my life. I don't even know where to begin. We should have taken the red flag warning when we checked in and overheard another guest telling the person at the counter that their room was infested with ants. The person at the front desk didn't even give him a response. Anyways... We walk in the room, its small and looks like a prison cell. It smells of over used Pine Sol. So bad that my girlfriend got a headache and we had to air out the room. There were stains on the bed sheets. The beds were uncomfortable. The wifi was extremely weak and in that area there is no cell phone reception so you have no contact with anyone. When you call the front desk they rarely answer the phone. OKAY BUT THIS IS WHERE IS GETS GOOD... We go into the bathroom which is tiny and looks filthy and guess what we see??? Roaches! I had to step on them. And each time I would return to the bathroom, there were more roaches!!! Disgusting!!! But WAIT! it gets better!!! We wake up at 5am and I go to the bathroom....All the water is shut off! The entire floors water is not working! I go to the front desk and find several other guests complaining about the same thing. Absolutely a NIGHTMARE. WE CHECKED OUT IMMEDIATELY AND WILL NEVER RETURN. DO NOT GO HERE. I HAVE PROVIDED PICTURES.

Queen bed with fireplace (extra cost to buy firewood and to use), unit E upstairs

You know, it is what it is. Booked a queen single bed with fireplace (unit E, upstairs) for 2 nights to go into Sequoia NP. It was only a 15 minute drive from the park entrance, which was great. I planned my trip just one week in advance, so it was one of the few accommodations with vacancies left. My room was pretty comfortable in terms of the size and bed. Just know it's not going to be spotless, and not everything will look pristine. The wifi can be inconsistent, depending on when you use it. (Later at night, it was much faster than earlier in the evening, when I think more people are on the network.) Room has a microwave, coffee maker, small TV. Shower water was lukewarm no matter what, haha. But it was fine. Nothing fancy, just a place to stay. Around $270/2 nights, after taxes.

    Blood smeared on the wall
    Grace K.

If there was a zero rating, or a negative star rating, that's what this place would get. Sierra Lodge is lucky that Yelp makes you give at least 1 star. My family and I checked it at 4:30pm only staying for 1 night because we had to leave in the morning for our next destination. We have a 2 year old so it's pretty hectic to get our stuff in and head out to see the sequoias before the sun goes down so we didn't fully inspect the room. But for $140 a night, one has a general and reasonable expectation that the room would be clean. When we got back from the sequoias, the office was closed, and that's when we discovered blood smeared on the bathroom wall and that same blood on our bed sheets. Thankfully we brought our own towels and slept on those. When we told the "manager" he refused to do anything about it because we didn't tell him when we got there. Even with the explanation we provided, which was reasonable. There was also a poop skid mark in the toilet. My sister in law and her 2 kids stayed in a different room and they didn't have hot water. He refused to do anything about that. Also, there is no WiFi there and no cell service either. The complimentary breakfast is un-drinkable coffee, muffins in a wrapper, and cereal from a dispenser. For $140 a night. There was also a poop skid mark in the toilet.

Room rate: $185/night…read more Positives The office staff seemed friendly. Overall, the grounds were nice. The proximity to Lake Kaweah was an added plus. The outward appearance of the motel seemed pleasant. It is also a great location to access Sequoia NP. That said, there were numerous issues. We were assigned to unit #1 (closest to the office), which I DO NOT recommend for the following reasons: 1) Initially, the hot water in the room was lukewarm at best. We asked them to adjust it which they did. It went from low lukewarm to medium lukewarm. Barely warm enough to take showers. Ironically the room instructions say guests are supposed to wash dishes before check out or be charged a fee. How clean can the dishes get with lukewarm water? Should the health and well-being of subsequent guests rely on how well previous guests wash dishes with lukewarm water? We're paying almost $200/night and have to wash dishes? 2) There is a charge for ice. Never came across this before, ever. See photo of guest instructions. We're paying almost $200/night and have to pay extra for ice? 3) Cabin/unit 1 is closest to a pen where they keep sheep and goats on site. The view of the lake is obscured by 1) the sheep pen, 2) a large bush 3) two large trees and 4) a window half covered with water spots (made even worse in the morning with glare from the morning sun. The trees provided shade, the bush didn't. Other cabins had the benefit of bushes that were trimmed for better visibility. Not sure why we got this cabin when others were available when we checked in. Several other parties checked in on Saturday (the day after we did) so other cabins were available at the time we checked in. 4) No TV remote in the bedroom. Had to download a remote app to control volume and on/off. TV instructions (in the living room) as written, did not work. The TV went dark without notice and didn't respond to the remote control. It responded to turning it off and back on - sometimes. There were other times that only way to get the TV to respond was by unplugging it, wait a minute or two and plugging it back in. These were daily issues. Multiply that by the number of days you're there and annoying doesn't begin to describe the frustration. While watching the NBA finals, the TV shutoff with 6:00 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter. Wasn't able to get it to turn on again. Seriously? Note the photo of cables and extension cords hanging from the TV. Not a very neat appearance and could be a safety hazard. We're paying almost $200/night to have recurring TV issues? 5) When the toilet clogged and I reported it to the front desk, I was handed a plunger and a plastic bag to put it in afterwards. Seriously? Never cleared a toilet in a hotel before. Usually, maintenance handles that. We're paying almost $200/night and have to unclog the toilet? 6) On Saturday 6/14, we notified the office of water on the floor under the frig. On Sunday 6/15, we were in Sequoia NP all day, so the unit was available for someone to look at the frig. We arrived back at the room around 4:00 p.m. Water was still on the floor under the frig. Water was in the grout lines all over the floor. Same thing happened on 6/17. We were in Kings Canyon all day. When we got back the grout lines around the frig were wet again (see photos). If anyone looked at the frig there was no communication letting us know. We're paying almost $200/night to have recurring leaks under the frig? 7) There is an envelope in the room so that you can leave housekeeping a tip. If you're simply doing your job, that's not worthy of a tip. Given the cob webs and water spots on the windows they are not doing their job. Note - all units are single story making the windows reachable to be cleaned. Not sure why they don't clean the window during their housekeeping rounds or in between guests. 8) One window in the living room with an a/c unit had a cluster of dead insects and spider webs on the outside surface (see photo). Not the most appealing thing to look at. We're paying almost $200/night to look at dead insects and spider webs? 9) On a Monday morning 6/16 (our third morning) my wife showed me photos of roaches in both the bathroom and the kitchen. See photos. Given the lack of response to the leaking frig, I opted to get a can of bug spray from the front office and spray the kitchen and bathroom myself. I wasn't about to live with this nastiness one minute longer than necessary. Photos also show the dead ones the following morning. No urgency from the front desk when I asked for bug spray. They made a note for the Terminex man. No immediate action was taken. Almost $200/night to deal with roaches? I do not recommend this place.
