Over the weekend, my daughter went with her grandparents to look at a car she saw online. Greg, the owner, said the car needed an oil change and it would be ready by Monday. On Monday it was not ready. On Tuesday it was still not ready. He said if we didn't like his business then we can pick up the deposit and must bring the original receipt. On Wednesday my daughter and her grandfather went to get the deposit back but he refused. He became aggressive and used vulgar language. My daughter then called Downey PD and the officer came out but said he couldn't force Greg to give back the deposit. Greg then tried to talk my daughter into getting a different, more expensive car. Every car he was trying to push on her had some issue that needed fixing. None of the cars he was presenting to her were ready to be sold or test driven! At this point she called me and explained what was going on. I immediately went over there. At first Greg was trying to come off as being nice but he switched up real quick when he was called out on his lies. When I asked why he is not giving back the deposit, he said because my daughter called the police. I told him bottom line we just came to get the deposit back like he said he would give it back the day before. Greg became aggressive once again. He yelled at me, threatened to physically "throw me away" because I was "provoking him." Again, I stated we just wanted the deposit back and did not want to do business with him. He said he did not want us leaving a bad review and how he sued people in the past for writing bad reviews on Yelp and won millions of dollars. He said he would give us back some of the deposit only if we signed a hand written contract saying we would not write a negative review and if we or anyone else we know were to write a bad review he would sue my 18 year old for $15,000. We did not sign anything and lost out on $500 dollars, therefore, do NOT recommend doing business with Sidney Auto Sales based on our terrible experience. And Greg, I know you are going to read this.....It is NOT illegal to leave a honest, negative review of a business, as consumers are protected by free speech and the Consumer Review Fairness Act (CRFA). Greg had my 18 year old son sign a contract before he even had the car in his possession. They insisted on a $500 deposit so that the car could go into a shop. It didn't sit well with my son and 2 hours later my son called and said, I don't want the car after all. Greg said the DMV Attorney told him he could keep the $500 deposit and he could sue my 18 year old. I didn't know the DMV Attorney worked on a Sunday and gives advice to car dealers. The point is I went to do my research and many ppl said the cars go to the shop and come back with nothing done. Therefore we immediately cancelled the contract but he wanted to keep the $500 deposit and that seemed like a bad deal to me. Bottom line is I had to call Downey PD for them to help get my money back. Before you buy or leave a deposit look up all his reviews seems like a scammer when it comes to getting pressured into leaving a deposit. read more

Everything was going smoothly. My wife and I were approved and put $500 down for a car and waited a few days for its return from the body shop. As far as we were concerned, GREG was happy to sell the car. We return to inspect the car and finish the paperwork. Greg was now aggressively insisting that my wife purchase the maintenance warranty for $2,000. Repeatedly stating that the car will break down tomorrow! At this point my wife is now questioning if the car is safe to drive, which infuriated Greg. We head indoors when Greg tells us that he is now unsure about selling my wife the car saying how impossible and difficult she is. He confusingly talks about taking us to court and garnishing our wages - (Not something you want to hear before you buy a car and major red flag for us) Greg turns his attention to myself and says he would only sell the car to me and not my wife. The penalty for "backing out" was $100, even though HE refused to sell my wife the car. Greg now has my $600 in his pocket. Greg, this is for you. This is not how you do business, my friend. Purchased a car here last year. Before purchased, we told them we wanted to establish credit with this purchase, since I had no credit history. I asked if my payments would be reported to a credit reporting agency. The guy with the black hair said "yes." Every time I made a payment in person, I would tell him my payments were not showing on my credit reports. He would give me a different excuse each time. Bottom line: He lied. He should have told the truth. We would have purchased at another dealer. In my opinion, he is dishonest. However, I went to Sidney Auto Sales by myself and honestly, this was the best and easiest experience that I have ever, ever had with a car dealership! I found this place through a referral by a family friend. They raved about how easy it was for them to get their car so I decided I would take the chance. I have had a pretty troubling credit score which is why I was worried that I wouldn't be able to take home one of their beautiful cars, but that wasn't an issue. I was helped by Greg and he was by far one of the most honest, kindest people I have ever met in the car industry. I had a lot of questions (some of them that I thought were dumb) but he answered each and every single one of them with patience - thank you for being so awesome about that! Their selection of cars surprised me - it was more than I thought it was. So, I had a fun time looking around to find the perfect car for me! I know most people worry that they won't be able to find something in a dealership that mostly has preowned cars, but when I was there, I couldn't even tell the cars were preowned! The lot itself was no different from any other lot but from the beginning, the service was second to none. The first thing that really stood out was Greg the owner and his friendly demeanor. Now, I know what most of you are thinking, that's every dealer at every dealership but Greg took the time to get to know us and didn't invade our space the way most dealers do. That Uneasy feeling we get when visiting a dealership was replaced with a welcoming smile from the owner. He was ready for our questions and understood who we were as clients. He asked us key questions that expanded our options and gave us a better idea of what we might be able to eventually get into both in the vehicles selections and our payment options. Again this all comes back to trust in my opinion and knowing how to treat your clientele. My family and I have now bought two cars from Greg and we have not been let down with the purchases or his continued service. Perfect size, good condition and feel (especially for a vehicle that has seen many roads) and the price was right. He even worked with us on a warranty program, something I've never seen someone do for a customer on a used car! Some time has passed and the vehicle continues to put in work without hesitation!
