The food was an absolutely delicious and the cocktails were as well! And very fresh. I have a sensitive stomach so when things have preservatives in them I can usually tell pretty quickly and nothing I ate here upset me at all. The atmosphere was nice and the server was knowledgeable and friendly. They don't get 5 stars because they have made very little effort to accommodate people waiting for a table. There was one bench near the host stand which would hold maybe 3 and a couple after thought chairs at the entry and no room to stand anywhere, other than outside in the elements. They've done a nice job refurbishing and setting up the building. For some time I wondered what it would be until I saw Boathouse vehicles parked outside. Thought it may be an extension of that but no, something new from the same folks. I wanted to go when it first opened but, it was so incredibly packed, I passed. Then I finally figured a Monday would be a good time and it was. We were able to get in but it gets crowded quickly at 5:30 and onward. It's nicely decorated but for me, it's a bit too dark in the dining area. The bar area looks to be well lit. Our server met us promptly and we ordered the Trout filet and the Asian Chicken with Grilled Red Cabbage. The meal came back promptly, plated nicely with a good presentation. The chicken was very tasty as was the grilled red cabbage. The mixed vegetables that came with the trout were very good but the trout had little taste at all and the fillet was quite small. Overall, in my opinion, I felt the portion sizes were a bit small. The waiter wasn't very attentive after our meal arrived but, they were getting more busy at that time. Between the two of us, we got out of there paying just over $50 including tip. The downside of that was we could have gone somewhere else and eaten two more meals. We were still pretty hungry after those two dishes. The menu is a bit short, but I understand that over time more dishes will be added. I will wait until that time and go again. We had salsa verde chicken with mexican street corn & coconut chicken curry with basmati rice. Both dishes were cooked perfectly & were well seasoned. The mexican corn was very tasty. WOW! First time to SideTrack, definitely not the last. Our party of 2 arrived shortly after 7:30 on a Saturday night without a reservation. We waited for about 20 minutes for a table while we enjoyed a delicious margarita and cold beer at the bar. We could have chosen to eat at the bar with no wait, but preferred to wait for a table. We started with the highly recommended okra chips. They were thinly sliced, wonderfully seasoned, and fried crispy (without batter.) I chose the rotisserie chicken enchilada as my entree. It was very moist and flavorful. Better than your standard Mexican restaurant fare. The portion however, was smaller than I expected, but still filling. Not enough for leftovers, but plenty for a filling meal when combined with the appetizer. My husband chose the chicken piccata, mostly because it was highly recommended by our AMAZING SERVER, Donna. I had to sneak a bite or two, and I must say it is one of the best things I've ever eaten. But again, the portion size is not abundant. It is one boneless breast and does not come with a side. He added a side of the crispy squash and zucchini. It was hot and crispy. Very good. The stars of the evening, however, were the chicken piccata and our server. read more

Met another couple for drinks and dinner. This was our first time here and I was excited to try because I am a fan of the owners who also operate Boathouse, Canyon Grill, and Sugars Ribs. I love all three. I'm not sure what this restaurant used to be except I heard that this location has changed hands a few times. I really liked the way they decorated and set a classy ambiance. It felt refreshing to eat in such a nice space. Not overdone and snobby but just right. If I had one complaint I'd say it's a little dark inside. We ordered several rounds of "The Sure Thing" which is the special on Sunday. Not sure sure I can describe the flavor profile except to say it was good and the jalapeño gave it an interesting twist at the end. We ordered a few appetizers and also the lemon garlic chicken. Since it was a whole half chicken there was plenty to share with my wife. The chicken was really good. Hot, crispy on the outside and juicy inside. The sauce and side of "fried broken potatoes" were a perfect match. I was happy and full but my wife wanted dessert to satisfy her sweet tooth. A very large slice of coconut cake appeared and the four of us struggled to finish it off. Glad to see the owners new restaurant off to a good start. I love the look and feel of this restaurant, but its not worth the price compared to other similar options in the area. The chicken piccata was okay, but for $17 you get 1 chicken breast. AND no sides! At Il Primo you get 2 chicken breasts and a huge side (and it's better) for $16. Our well drinks on happy hour were charged extra for a "splash" of cranberry. Everyone at our table agreed that with so many other wonderful restaurant options in Chattanooga, this one would not be our choice. read more

Didn't know what to expect but was pleasantly surprised! Kind of upscale dining by the RR tracks. Kind of a inconspicuous building off Dayton Rd but good things await inside! We went for dinner and were seated immediately. Decor was kind of sparse but well lit. I had the salmon, cooked to order on a bed of orzo. Excellent! My wife had the bleu cheese burger and she said it was very good. We also had a starter of spicy okra chip, one of our new favorites. We also had sides of Mexican corn, very good. I'm new to area. I'm a single older woman sitting at bar. I was offered a cocktail. I was offered another cocktail. I told the bartendress i was new to area and asked for food recommendations. She provided two. She never followed up with asking me for an order. She spent time with men at the other end of bar. I was going to order salmon but was not recognized. It was awkward enough being alone at the bar as a woman... no dialogue nor care from female bartender. I've been in industry for a long time in CA. Know. Your. Audience. I was willing to spend bucks as I had heard great things re this restaurant. Avoid. There are better places in and around chatt if you're a single gal looking for a good dinner. Nothing worse then being ostracized by another woman. Okra was greasy to boot. Ugh. And since there are others at the bar commenting on my 'negativity' let's be clear... it's hard enough to show up at a bar as a single woman, but to be labeled and judged is ridiculous. I have also have a Master in physical therapy and another in liberal arts from Stanford if we are comparing credentials...I was pleasant until I was dissed. The 'other couple' did not show up until I asked for my check. I was curious about the menu and was afforded options... but without follow up. It was uncomfortable. My experience. I came in with an open mind and stomach. I was not impressed. No matter my 'disposition' a reasonable culinary experience is not unreasonable. Sidetrack is good, not yet great. It can be and will likely be great. We visited on a Friday night. Some kinks are still being worked out. The menu is limited compared to the Boathouse. The lemon garlic chicken was moist and flavorful. We had okra chips that were very good. Tres leches cake was a nice capper for the meal. Wait staff has some growth for Sidetrack to get to great. The delicious culinary delights, the perfect music playlist, casual atmosphere, and attentive service I recently experienced at SideTrack are why Travis and team have earned my 5 stars...simply brilliant! I frequently dine at restaurants, particularly as a business traveler, and I have to say that dinner at SideTrack was a terrific experience. While visiting family and friends in the Chattanooga area, they suggested dinner at SideTrack. Upon arrival we were immediately greeted and seated at a booth of choice. While we were considering the menu, we noticed the music being played in the background. We were having so much fun listening as the playlist seemed like one we had designed ourselves, spanning several genres and decades..perfect. From the menu, we began by choosing several of the "sides to share" and "for the table" dishes including oaxacan street corn, grilled red cabbage with bagna cauda, fried broken potatoes, fried clams, and whipped feta, which for me, was a real treat...highly recommend. For the main entrée, I chose the wood oven roasted chicken accompanied by the to order guacamole which was all spot on. The chicken was generously seasoned, but not too much salt, and the guacamole had just the right amount of lime. We decided to close the meal properly and order dessert. We chose one slice of the coconut tres leche cake and again, shared it (I loved how so many of the items were made to be shared...fantastically unpretentious). This was the perfect closing to a perfect meal...I look forward to my next visit to SideTrack in Hixson (or maybe they'll open one in Atlanta. read more

My family and I have eaten here twice for bunch and it's a hit both times. Great and unique atmosphere as you walk in. A great place for a nice dinner out or a drink in the bar area. We have tried and tried to hope we could like Sidetrack and perhaps eventually have a really good meal. After three mediocre evening meals over many visits, last night will be our very last visit. The place is poorly run and poorly managed. The staff is self occupied and not at all customer focused. No one even thanked us for visiting when we left the restaurant. Our meal was horrible: Cold, not cooked to order, simply unacceptable. I really don't know where to start but I'll try. Saturday night. Eight twenty pm. Our date night.The place is sparsely occupied so the food we ordered should be easily cooked to perfection right? We ordered drinks. We were seated at high tops near the bar. The bartender was self absorbed all evening with some dude with his hat on backwards with sunglasses around his neck-- mind you it's dark outside- so our drink order took longer than it should have been.She simply was too busy to serve her waiters. We ordered the wedge of lettuce salad and the lettuce was rusty(old) and had the heart stem still in the head. I wouldn't have served it at home to anyone. I ordered a simple Santa Fe Hamburger and SPECIFICALLY requested to our waiter that the burger be served hot as in right off the grill and that it be cooked medium. It was served cold and medium rare. It was so soggy you couldn't pick it up. The side was "broken potatoes". They were broken alright-- cold soggy greasy leftovers. I didn't eat them. You wouldn't either. My wife ordered pizza from a place with a wood fired grill right? Pizza was cold too. We ended up with drinks a $65 evening. My wife had one cocktail and a glass of wine. I had two beers. With tip, because I didn't blame the poor waiter, $75.00. Not exactly a price point where you'd expect such poor food and service. We will not be back. Lawton Haygood ( owner) you need to wake up and fire some folks and get this damn place running. It's not like you don't know how. Perhaps no one is telling you how bad, spotty, poorly managed your place is. Maybe you're too busy with the Boathouse and Sugar's. We are local 10+ year regulars at the Boathouse but you really, really better do something soon at Sidetrack. I hope you can. As far as my wife and I, we'll never know because we will never again be back. As far as the positive reviews here, I guess they must have dined at a different place than we did. My wife and I set next to a very recent negative reviewer at the bar towards the end of her visit. Everyone at the bar (but not the staff) said that she was extremely unpleasant towards everyone around her as well as to the staff. I am a well-educated person (2 Master's degrees) and successful at work. We love Sidetrack and Casey at the bar, it is one of our favorite places in Chattanooga, and yes we eat out a lot. If you do not enjoy the food or the staff at Sidetrack, I believe that is on you and a negative attitude which I would expect extends throughout your life. read more

We dined at the Sidetrack twice on our recent trip to Chattanooga, once for brunch and the other for dinner. The food was exceptional, the atmosphere was great, and the service was amazing. Favorite brunch menu items were: Beignets (a must), French Toast, Eggs in Purgatory, Chicken and Waffles (literally the best chicken/waffles we ever had), Fish and Chips, and the Curry Half Chicken. I have been looking forward to visiting this restaurant for some time. I knew that I would not be disappointed judged on the other restaurants that these talented owners have already opened. I love the drive-up-appeal, and once I entered the restaurant, I had a great vibe in perspective of the atmosphere. I sat at the bar with two of my favorite friends, and our server at the bar was extremely attentive and very quick to ask if she could help us. I love the open atmosphere of this restaurant. The food choices covered a range of diverse entrees, appetizers and side dishes that appeal to even the most distinguished palates. Dessert choices are equally as good. We settled with a berry short cake which was very light and delicious. The chicken piccata and the wedge salad, beet salad, and roasted red cabbage hit the spot Since two of us were trying to lower our calories. This restaurant is similar to a neighborhood restaurant, and I truly enjoyed the experience, even though shrimp was not on the menu. Wonderful customer service, great atmosphere, however the food was just okay. I had the ahi tuna and my fiancé had the NY strip steak. Neither one were impressive at all.
