(This rating is based only on what we actually ordered and ate.) At 11AM on Sunday we stopped by to try out Sidekick, as I'd just come across it on Yelp earlier in the week. The cakes and milkshakes looked delicious but we needed breakfast first. They were out of croissants so we went with the breakfast sliders ("slidekicks"). They almost could not have been more disappointing. The egg and cheese slider had a dab of cheese the size of a dime (see photo) and the egg had zero salt or pepper. Who's eating a scrambled egg with no seasoning? Who's making a scrambled egg with no seasoning? And charging $3.50 for it? ‍ The steak and egg slider was nominally better if only because the steak was tender. However, the chimichurri sauce was nearly as tasteless as the, again, unseasoned egg. The rolls had more flavor than anything else. Based on the sliders, we didn't go back inside for anything sweet. If you're going here for something sweet, you might have better luck. read more

Solid addition to Ballston. Ordered the creme brûlée snow day- sort of like a parfait with soft serve ice cream. Was a good idea and enjoyed the different layers, but was verrry sweet, even for me. Also the pop tarts that came inside were very hard, not sure if they were frozen or perhaps stale but made them hard to eat. Also wanted to try the banana bread, but there was only one slice left that looked on the old side so I abstained. Thought it was a pretty good value for $6, was a ton of food. Would try again if I was in the neighborhood but probably wouldn't make a separate trip. read more

I was initially drawn into the Sidekick Bakery after seeing that they were having a $1 coffee promotion until 8/12 and I was blown away by the awesome and kind service that I also ordered a few of their pastries. The strawberry and match croissant was massive and well worth the $7 pricetag. The pastry was flaky and buttery and the dried strawberries on top added a nice mouthfeel and fresh fruit flavor profile. When I bit into the croissant I was greeted by a nice surprise of strawberry jam along with a bit of matcha custard that kept the pastry very moist and delicious. I also tried the watermelon and lime tart that was basically a homemade pop-tart with a unique filling and a much better tasting short crust. The filling tasted mostly of lime than watermelon but it was good nonetheless. However, I would definitely choose the croissant over the tart. Overall, a fantastic little coffee shop/bakery with good coffee and even better pastries. read more

Great place to grab coffee/dessert and sit outside with a friend!! Reasons to come: 1. The coffee is $1 (until November 1st) ((they keep extending it lol)). 2. It has great seating outside and the weather is always nice when I come. 3. Free WiFi and there's always a free table for me to do work on my laptop! 4. The pastries r YUMMY Food I've tried: 1. STRAWBERRY MATCHA CROISSANT IS SO GOOD. I wished it had more matcha flavor, for me it tasted more like a strawberry jam with cream, but it was so good! I also wished it didn't look so...idk.. fake? The neon green frosting really turned me off and made it look really bad, but after hearing so many people tell me it's good I finally tried it and I do not regret. 2. Everything bagel croissant: the croissants here are amazing. Always deliciously crispy and flaky. This has wayyyyy too much cream cheese though. I'm usually a lover of cream cheese (slab it all over my bagel mmm) but the amount it had was kinda gross. I think it's because it's like cold ish cream cheese. Not sure if they heat the croissants up. 3. Tarts: I really like the blueberry cheesecake! I've also tried watermelon lime, and brown sugar (or something like that I don't quite remember). The tarts in general are kinda meh but if you heat it up it's yummy. I'm excited to try more!!! I really want to see what their ice cream shakes are about. My personal opinions recap: the presentation could use some work for the strawberry matcha , and the filling to croissant ratio is way too high for the everything bagel. The first time I ordered, I got one of their mini cakes for my husband. After the 25 minutes wait for them to make my milkshake, I came home to find out that they gave me the wrong cake. Walked back to exchange, came home to find that their mini cake was stale and boring tasting - not at all worth the money and the wait and the walk back. The second time, I ordered their oatmeal chocolate chip cookie. I even asked to make sure the cookie was baked today. They swore up and down that it was. Yeah no it was not. Dry and stale - Safeway could have baked a better cookie at 1/5 the price. Never coming here again. 2 stars instead of 1 cuz their packaging is cute. read more

One of our latest Uber eats delivery was from an establishment we'd ordered from before Sidekick bakery. We enjoy their breakfast sandwiches but the bit hit was the Celebration Cake. It arrived nicely packaged in its own box and was decorated covered in multi colored sprinkles. The yellow cake was so moist and yummy so was the nice amount of vanilla whipped cream that was layered in it. The cake was one of the best I've ever had and as a whipped cream lover I was happy to see they didn't skimp on the cream layered in the cake. Next time I'm definitely ordering two of these cakes and also plan to try the peanut butter chocolate cake they offer too. Thank you Sidekick for offering such an amazing cake! I highly recommend this to any sweet lover who's trying to decide what to order. When in Arlington I wanted to stop & check out this new location for a local favorite. And, they have such a great new, stylish space in the new Ballston Quarter. Of course a person needs to try their homemade pop tarts- so I brought home a strawberry, apple, and brown sugar cinnamon. I don't think it's ok to go there and not try a pop tart?! The fruit options were certainly the best in combination with the expected dryness of pop tart dough. So many of their other creations were certainly visually tempting! This bakery is my new favorite spot and I will definitely be back to treat myself with sidekick's abundance of treats! There is so much amazing to say about this place, but I'll highlight some of my favorites. First of all - the celebration cake is to die for. I get it not just for its beauty, not just to take pictures of it to send to my friends to make them jealous, but because it's also delicious! That vanilla mousse gets me every time and I just don't want to share it with anyone. The croissant sandwiches are very tasty. Whether I go sweet or savory, I love those baked buttery layers! The croissants are a perfect lunch. Just don't tell Mom, I chose the pop rocks and cola for lunch! What a fun a flavor! Frostee and fries is another favorite. It doesn't get much better than that.. and when I'm not as hungry, I'll get a tart.. at this place there are lot of items that are tied for first in my mind..croissants, tarts, snow days.. yes! I am a huge matcha fan so I do like the matcha options- matcha chai, matcha turmeric.. yum! The staff makes my day with the smiles and the quick service. I've been here twice since it opened and I can already tell that it's going to be dangerous for my wallet and my stomach! The first time I came I had the blueberry cheesecake Ted Tart, which was so good. I wanted to try Ted Tarts for some time, but the other Ted's Bulletin locations were a little far from me and hard to get a table. It seems like both a blessing and a curse that this has opened up within a few minutes walk from my office. The second time I went I had the Oreo Snow Day, which was also excellent. And I love that they have dairy free options as well for those of us who want the milkshake experience without the stomach ache! 100% will return again to try basically everything on the menu! read more

Phenomenal - wish we had one in Atlanta. I've been there a couple times now, and my favorite things on the menu include the eclairs and the 'Frosty and Fries Croissant.' The 'Black Sesame Cookies and Cream Snowday' was really unique. If you're a fan of tahini you'll probably love it too. Some of the best vegan treats I've ever tried, that's for sure. The cherry hibiscus tea was a great midday pick me up. I loved that it didn't have any added sugar - it was naturally sweet and refreshing! That's a good find. This is a pretty interesting bakery it's an appendage of Ted's Bulletin but they seem like they trying to be more innovative and experimental. The desserts look a tad bit more creative and reminiscent of some of the bakeries I'm familiar with in New York City. I recommend passing by in the morning or after whenever you have time. The Ballston food court is just it's very pleasant in general so it's worth a trip and walking around. I tried the strawberry matcha croissant which was pretty tasty. I also tried the snow day which is essentially a milkshake - the creme brulee one was topped with a bit of Pop-Tart and a shard of caramel that was amazing - rich and delicious I loved it and definitely recommend. They also have vegan options as well if you prefer that or you can switch out the milk in the regular options. Can't wait to see if they switch up the menu of the course of the year. read more

I hate to do this, but I did not enjoy my Celebration Cake. It was my birthday and I was working from home, so I decided to treat myself! However, this cake was almost all vanilla mousse and barely any cake! First off, the vanilla mousse didn't have much flavor and felt like I was eating whipped nothing. Second, the layers of mousse were 3-4 times the layers of cake! I'm pretty sure you shouldn't call it a cake when there is less cake than a single Easy Bake Oven bake. Sidekick needs to specify that this is a mousse cake, not a cake. Had I known this, I would not have bought it. Truly disappointing. They get three stars because the tarts are amazing and the guy at the cash register was great. But still, I expected a lot more. read more

What a disappointment. I ordered a millionaire bar and it was soggy and bland. It must've been sitting in the fridge for at least a week, the shortbread was totally soaked and what was supposed to be a Carmel layer was just a layer of simple syrup. I also got a butter croissant which had a nice flavor until i bit through the center. They were able to produce well developed layers but didn't bake the croissant long enough, resulting in a doughy mess in the core of the pastry. Tried the homemade pop tart (which can be toasted upon request) and the black sesame cookies and creame snowdays (like an icy ice cream). Both were very good Friendly service and quality servings, but the high price and very limited seating makes it a difficult place to frequent. Staff was awesome! They were attentive and super helpful. Unfortunately the pop tarts look really delicious but they are DRY! Dryer than the Sahara hunny. The crust tastes like sand when you bite into it. It's basically inedible and really unpleasant. They need to add some oat milk to that recipe ASAP. I won't be going back and am obviously very disappointed that I wasted my money on pop tarts that I can't even eat. read more

I came here based on the reviews and I'm quite disappointed. The customer service was good but the sliders everyone was talking about didn't do it for me. They were kinda busy today but that doesn't excuse the poorly put together sliders. It was EXTREMELY greasy, and the meat was practically raw, the eggs were all over the place in the box. There is no where on the menu where it stated they the steak was medium rare/rare etc. it also wasn't the cleanest. The flies may have gotten in because the doors from Ted bulletin were open but still. The pistachio frozen was pretty good, not worth the $6 because it's kinda small in my opinion. I ordered the breakfast sweet potato hash bowl and was sorely disappointed that the hash and poached egg were not made fresh to order. I watched as the server place the hash into a microwavable container to heat up the hash then transferred it into the to go bowl then the egg placed on top. Tried The New Sidekick Bakery on an Empty Stomach . I fell in love with their entire display case they have everything!! From Ted's Tarts to Soft serve to Buttery Croissants and croissant Reuben sandwiches. I ordered the Slidekicks which are made to order , I got the steak and eggs & bacon asiago cheese while awaiting I became fascinated by the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Banana bread the display case does it justice but I'm sure my stomach would appreciate that love much more chiiileee. The celebration cake was sooo damn Cuteeeee and mini size it reminded Me of the beautiful greatness that's the Hirshorrn Museum of infinity mirrors Polka Dot room that comes around once every summer to D.C. awesomeness!!!. Oh boy! Oh boy! Oh boy!!! I do love this bakery and it's savory croissant selection. I'm still making my way through the selection, but I'm super grateful impressed. So, try the everything croissant and the cheddar and cheese croissant for breakfast awesomeness. Seriously, the fillings are soft and perfectly encased by a crackly crispy and irresistibly flakey croissant. Right now, they have a coffee special - hot or iced - for just a dollar, which is helpful because the croissants are expensive, and rightfully so. In fact, I think this little sidekick to Ted's is priced appropriately and the good eats you get in return for your dollars hit the mark. The service is pretty great as well. They're quick and efficient and are obviously fans on the goods they serve up. Oh, and just in case you're interested, you can doctor your iced coffee with simple syrup rather than endlessly stirring in a packet of sugar in that just seems to settle at the bottom anyway. Oh, and you'll be sipping your iced coffee through a biodegradable straw, while the coffee is encased a plastic cup. Sigh. You can't have it all and I appreciate the nod. We came here after dinner. The service was a bit slow and we had to wait for 10 mins to order. there was not even a line. The staff was just occupied with their work and making previous orders. Anyway, very unique bakery as a part of Ted Bulletin restaurant, which means pop tarts! I wanted to try a few different flavors but I had to refrain myself.
