We came here after dinner. The service was a bit slow and we had to wait for 10 mins to order. there was not even a line. The staff was just occupied with their work and making previous orders. Connected to Ted's. $1 coffee promo going on for the next month--although the coffee was just so-so.. had the breakfast sandwiches, which were pretty good! Recommend the steak and egg one! Also had the egg and cheese croissant, make sure to get it warmed up if you can. It's a bit pricey at $7, but still pretty good. Also tried the millionaire bar (chocolate, caramel and shortbread bar). Would go back if I was in the area. Want to try some of the cakes next time. read more

I LOVE Sidekick. Such a great place to grab a cup of coffee in the morning, or hang out with your pup on the patio in the summer. I spent a lot of summer nights here drinking coffee and playing cards. The inside seating is limited (only two high tops) but you could always grab a seat in Ted's Bulletin since they are open to each other. I think Ted's Bulletin is pretty smart for opening up this little gem for coffee and pastries to-go. But I find myself sitting at one of the high tops for hours. The music is loud, it's busy with lunch breakers, and it can be cold sitting here in the winter with the doors opening so much. But I prefer it over most of the other places in Ballston. I just love the coffee here. You can't beat it. If only they went back to their $1 any size coffees, it would be perfect. But their coffee is still a very acceptable price, especially for the quality. The staff is incredibly friendly too, which I value highly :) one improvement I'd make: more vegan pastry options!!! This place is the bees knees! First off, they have a great selection of unique, modern pastries with all the "feels" of a nostalgic old world bakery. I've been dreaming about their gourmet pop tarts, and I was not disappointed. Sooo good! Also, I tried their Reuben croissant - holy cow! Flaky, satisfying goodness from the pastry gods is how I would describe it. I highly recommend their oat milk Matcha or Cherry Hibiscus tea to wash it down. The pastry concepts are really creative, but they aren't as appetizing as they look. I tried out both the tart and croissant. I loved the cakes at Sidekick Bakery. I've tried the birthday cake and the passion fruit cake and both are excellent and beyond my expectations! It is done in the Parisian way, very European indeed, reminding me of the time spent in Paris sipping coffee and eating a small slice of cake at a small boutique cafe. It's soft in the core, with subtle hint of sweetness. The icing is smooth and beautifully done, not outrageously sweet like those typical American cakes. It has a slight buttery fragrance. Overall, it's subtle, polite, classy and inviting, and very well balanced overall. On the other hand, i don't really connect with the croissants in the same way, some of which are too sweet and strong. But again, maybe they are targeted towards those clients with sweet tooth. I was really excited to try this place out with my two toddlers. First, it's hard to find - you go through Ted's Bulletin to get there and the Ted's Bulletin host was pretty grumpy with me when I asked how to get in. Second, it's TINY and really loud because of the connected restaurant. Third, there's no accessible seating - two or three high-top bar tables with high stools. The combination of Two and Three makes it a less than welcoming place for kids. My 3 year old fell off the stool, but where else was he supposed to sit? Outside wasn't an option - it was 100 degrees when we were there. The baked goods are beautiful, albeit pricey. The kids split a strawberry shortcake snow day. It was a lovely presentation, although it took a LONG time to make after ordering - around 10 minutes. I had an iced coffee - it was just ok coffee, and I felt like I was on hidden camera trying to get a lid on it after adding milk. I would go again on a day we can sit outside, but definitely not a place to sit and enjoy a treat with small kids (or anyone who needs accessible seating). read more

New favorite bakery/coffee shop in Arlington! This is a great place to either run in and grab your morning coffee to go, or to sit, relax and savor one of their delicious treats. I have tried a variety of their baked goods since their opening- the strawberry duo cookie (a combination of a butter cookie and a strawberry Ted's tart), the chocolate peanut butter cup (mini) cake, the everything croissant and of course Ted's tarts! They are all so delicious! I can't wait to try more. The egg slide kicks looked SO good and I have to have the celebration cake. The iced latte with oat milk is my new go-to. Visited friends in Arlington recently and we stopped by this awesome bakery after shopping at Macy's. I had a cherry hibiscus tea and a Frostee & Fries croissant. Phenomenal! My daughter had a millionaire bar which she loved and a Black Sesame Cookies and Cream Snow Day (which I tasted, of course) -- absolutely delicious. We liked what we had so much we went back in and bought a few more items to take home. Tried the passion fruit cake, celebration cake and a couple of the other croissants. Everything was great! Loved the creative flavor combinations. We will definitely keep Sidekick on our checklist of places to return when we're in Arlington again. read more

I've been here a few times now and enjoyed it each time. The first time, I was picking up the celebration cake - which was delightfully soft on the inside and the decoration on the outside truly embodied "celebration". I've gotten the egg and cheese croissants twice, my first experience I was pleasantly surprised by the flakiness of the dough and the fillings were well distributed within, although the dough was a little undercooked at the center - probably due to the addition of fillings. My second experience was a little subpar as the eggs were clumped in the center and not super enjoyable (the dough itself was still wonderfully flaky!). I also recently tried the everything croissant and - oh my god - it's to die for. My one true complaint/concern/question (?) is every time I've come here they don't seem to have the ham and cheddar croissants shown on their menu. The first time, I chalked it up to them probably selling out as it was later in the day. However, the next time I was there first thing in the morning and they still didn't have them. I also noticed that their are no reviews of said croissants on this site - search "ham" and nothing comes up! I would definitely recommend trying this place out for breakfast and/or baked goods and look forward to eventually trying these mythical country ham + cheddar croissants read more

I had to write a review about Sidekick after my last visit. I was completely blown away from the minute I walked in the door. The Stunning design of the bakery leaves you in awe from the get go; but then comes the pastry case. The sensory jolt you get from all the products was really exciting; this is like no other bakery I've ever seen def not your usual mom and pop. The servers treated my friends and I so well, asking if we wanted to sample anything and letting us try their new cookie hybrid, the strawberry duo which is a combination of their home made strawberry pop tart and a vanilla butter cookie. Even though the dollar coffee promotion that they are running drew us in, after speaking with the baristas and seeing everything we decided we had to try the bakery. We went with a couple of their vegan snow days which sounded really interesting, made with premium oat milk and they blended in black sesame and oreos for one and peppermint and chocolate chips for another one. We continued to go down the case and order some amazing croissants, they had a ridiculous Frostee and Fries croissant filled with chocolate custard and french fry cream that just still doesn't seem real; absolutely delicious and completly one of a kind. They also had a reuben croissant, basically house pastrami with everything that comes on a reuben sandwich rolled up in croissant dough. We piled on some of the duos we sampled and made a pact to head back once we're back in the area. Thank you Sidekick for treating us so well and can not wait to see you again. read more
