Came here to try out their new food menu. I heard from coworkers that they used to have a food truck but now they are making their own food and it is pretty good. I came around 7:30 on a weeknight and it was not super busy. The cribbage group just finished and was heading out-they have lots of social event here which I hope to attend now. I had chicken tenders+fries and a blackberry mule. I thought it was super tasty! I made conversation with the bartender and other people at the bar. Everyone was very friendly and I can't wait to come back. Additionally, they have great holiday decor! Also a couch, books, games, etc. Seems like a great place to meet with friends. Especially since they also do coffee here. Overall super impressed. I wish I came here sooner! read more

SXE has been one of my favorite locations to visit ever since moving back to Maine. I've been able to experience many of their transitions, from brewery and coffee shop, to the roasting of their own coffee beans, to making and serving their own food. My daughter met Santa for the first time here two years ago. I've taken all my guests visiting from out of town here. I've celebrated Father's Day with my dad here and date nights with my husband. I've enjoyed jazz brunch with my kids and girl's days with my friends and sister. When I'm craving a delicious coffee beverage, Side By Each is the first place I think of. Whether I am taking my drink to go or having it at the brewery, it is always well crafted. I most recently had a salted caramel latte and it was splendid along with their cinnamon rolls. I actually visited SXE twice yesterday and on my second visit tried their fried pickles and pretzel appetizer. Both were delicious and the dipping sauce and beer cheese both packed in a great amount of flavor. They also hand cut their fries which adds another level of deliciousness. I always love seeing the same individuals behind the bar serving me and the owner has always been so friendly anytime I interacted with him. When I recently heard that this fantastic location would be closing the first of the year, I would be lying if I said I didn't shed some tears-- this spot will be greatly missed by many and I certainly hope to see SXE out in the community in some capacity in the future or through the continuation of beer brewing and coffee bean roasting. I stopped in here while passing through Maine. I'd heard some great reviews, and apparently every one was true. They have an extensive beer selection, and each one was delicious in its own way. My favorite was the Old Acquaintance barleywine (which, if you know me, isn't abnormal), but And If You Don't Like Yoga (piña colada beer) was a surprise hit. I wasn't hungry, but the food looked and smelled great. I'm a karaoke hound, too, but it's not Monday. Hopefully I can come back at some point. I tried to tip them, but they said they don't take tips, as the staff makes a full non-tipped living wage. That's reason enough to come here! read more

Sweet place to get some yummy and chill pizza with an in house beer that is perfect for all days of the week! I especially enjoyed the girl who greeted me! She knew the beer and was able to help me decide on my flight! All were tasty! She was even good about pairings which I believe matters when deciding on a flight pairing! read more

It's an interesting place. They've got pastries and a bunch of different coffee items if beer ain't your thing. But, unfortunately the reason I won't be going back is I noticed a few customers getting barked at by one employee who seemed to enjoy being rude and making people feel embarrased if they forgot to put their mask on while getting up to go to the bathroom or to order another drink. I almost expected to see Gov Mills in the corner. The beer was mediocre, and at $8 a glass it wasn't exactly a steal. I'd imagine they would be grateful that customers wanted more. Really enjoy this place. My wife and I stop in often. It's a nice building with a friendly staff. They have a huge selection of drinks from beers to sodas, coffees, Egg Crème drink (which my wife loves!!!) you name it. They also have a small breakfast selection from a local bakery. We love to go, grab a small table, order drinks and then play cribbage or another board game and just relax. Just wish I could beat my wife at least once at that game while there ! lol. Who doesn't love a brewery that opens at 7am? It's because they have amazing coffee/espresso/breakfast offerings but nonetheless, you can still get beer that early. Really big space, Pinky D's poutine in house, wifi, food, drinks. Coffee is Coffee by Design and breakfast items are from the Italian Bakery. The beer seemed German focused but still tasty. Our mistake was not dining in . We should have stayed to listen to the fabulous music. Burger wasn't great and sides didn't help. Love the outdoors dining and service at front for take out was great! We are ready to try again for the dine in coffee/ beer ect. Experience! read more

I should start this post off by saying this isn't your average brewery. I don't drink, but I love the vibe from breweries and I typically drag my sister along because she's fun and has a thing for craft beer. But I've driven by and watched this place transform and like with most food & booze joints I'm super excited about, I try to give it a little bit of time to get the kinks worked out before I go for the first time. So for starters the building itself is COOL AF. It's got the coolest roof, it's clean, it's wide open. The outdoor patio is spacious and sunny and super cute, lots of plants and lights, and makes the whole place very inviting! *This part will also be in my other review because it's a separate business but worth mentioning here* THERE IS A POUTINE FOOD TRUCK BUILT INTO THE WALL. He made me a bomb@ss Grape Soda and my sis got herself a flight of beer. He's super friendly and also, one of the owners. (And it's been a week since we went and I kept meaning to write this review sooner, so I'm sorry if you're name isn't really Matty B, but there's a picture of us for proof..) Even better than being a brewery is that they also open early for COFFEEEEEEE!!! I. Am. So. Excited. About. That. Me reviewing another brewery? Of course, and another well deserved 5-star rating. From a few guys with experience brewing at Baxter Brewing started up their own brewery. This place is another brewery in Maine that proves you don't need to visit Portland for great craft beer. They don't follow the common plan of many breweries now-a-days that just produce IPAs. With a wide variety of brews offered and usually around 12 or so on tap with a few guest taps everyone should find a beer they enjoy. I recommend trying a flight to get a nice variety of styles to find a favorite. Everything from a coffee porter to a brown ale, to a fruited sour, to a light crisp lager to name a few. I've been impressed by almost all of them I have tried, since they are well made to style beers. The atmosphere is friendly and inviting with a good amount of space and even some games to play with friends/family. Also for you non-beer drinkers can indulge in specialty coffee (Coffee By Design) drinks along with delicious treats (usually breakfast oriented) from local bakeries/stores. So plenty of options to keep non-drinkers happy and make them feel welcomed. Besides the great brews they have a partnership with Pinky D's Poutine. You can't go wrong with different types of poutine with a large variety of toppings available to pair with your beer. This place is a must of you are in the area. The staff is friendly, welcoming and super helpful. I am not a big beer drinker but a couple questions later and I was sipping on some suds that tickled my taste buds. They also have handcrafted sodas, coffee beverages, ciders and beer related cocktails(and more). As an added bonus, they share a space with Pinky D's, which is by far the best poutine in the state. They are not just your average poutine (though original is special due to their fabulous gravy) because they have a variety of flavors combos for just about every pallet. My favorite is the Korean BBQ which I paired with Jam Hands beer on this visit. Good drinks and food, chill atmosphere and exceptional staff make this a well rounded place any time of day. No wait staff, leads to backed up kitchen. My family ordered 3 Rueben's and we waited for 53 minutes before 2 Rueben's were ready. When I went to pick them up at the the window I saw a 3rd Rueben behind her with no sides on the plate. The person without the Rueben tried a cut off piece of mine and said not to bother ordering another one. I took a bite of my Rueben the meat was tough and cold in the middle. The Beer I ordered was their version of an APA which tasted worse than my beer I make at home in a bucket. So I ordered a Hefeweizen which tasted of funk. Never going there again. read more

Robert and I are more than likely there furthermost regular customers. Traveling often from Indiana to Maine on a regular schedule we always find the time to stop here. I have never had a better flight of beer in my life. Nothing beats a craft brewery that really cares about the quality of their product and has a passion for perfecting it. Food was phenomenal and staff was incredibly friendly. Took home some coffee beans out of curiosity and they were equally amazing (if not better... seriously the coffee was so good). Fantastic beers! We tried the pomegranate IPA, coffee porter, rice larger, and pineapple sour and all were amazing. As Seattle beer snobs we are often disappointed, so this was a real treat. We stopped by for the first time today. Nice open brewery with lots of beer options-many different styles from their own brewery and other local ones. Also had a selection of wine and cider. They also have Coffee by Design and an indoor food truck restaurant. They have a no tipping policy and everything was reasonably priced. I can see what the other reviewer said about kids but it is family friendly. There is a place for kids to play but plenty of seating away from that area. I am so excited this place opened and can't wait to go back. I really appreciate what they add to the LA area! read more

Lovely IPAs in my opinion. I even baught a growler to bring home of their beer "bock of seagulls Maibock." I had a flight of beers first and then I went for the bock and tried the Hefeweizen. Their sours are ok but I'm also not a sour beer fan lol. Matt and all the employees were really nice. I went there alone and they made me feel welcomed. I highly recommend this place. First time here and I came for lunch on a weekday. The space is great, open and family friendly. I had two beers tasters, (that's all they are serving two weeks into open) and both were tasty. This is a great location for a brewery and the coffee here smelled amazing... but I wasn't here for coffee. I got a Poutine at the Pinky's window and it was yum per normal for Pinky's. Maybe even a bit better because the fries were piping hot! I look forward to seeing this place grow. Their coming soon list looks great. read more

Home run! Stopped by for the first time. I don't even like poutine and I found it very good. Comfort food in big portions. Beers: truly excellent! Wide range of carefully crafted, high quality beers for every taste. Matt, one of the owners, served us. He's super friendly and informative and was just as happy serving our daughter an iced coffee as he was telling us about the beer selections. Top this off with a responsible business model (local sourced ingredients and products when possible, fair pay for employees, environmental responsibility) and I have just found my new favorite hangout! read more

We joined family last night for a small get together. I was a little worried about bringing my teen and tween boys there figuring they would be bored. I was completely wrong. They played pinball endlessly, ate fries, poutine and drank frozen chocolate milk! My husband and I drank a delicious flight of beers and indulged in delicious poutine from Pinky D's.
