Do not buy into the former positive reviews. This place has changed. SIDCO is definitely not what it once was and the owner needs to reevaluate a lot of things in how he does business and manages his personal life. The level of disrespect and dishonesty I experienced over the course of a couple of years, after their initial headliner work failed and subsequent work was a bonanza of mistakes and damage, was astounding. Alex, the owner, stood in his shop and argued with me loudly, cursing and getting himself caught in lies, for quite a long time after my headliner was damaged when they attempted to redo it a second time after the initial re-covering failed in 10 months time. I have taken my business elsewhere months later now that I can afford to get it squared away and pay all over again for work I should have gotten a refund for, but Alex doesn't stand behind his in-writing warranty, either. The place I went has said that they have had several customers now come in and tell them of experiences similar to mine. Right down to the owner stinking like booze while arguing with customers about crappy work. Beware this place and its ownership. read more

I attended an event here as part of the Alfa club. Alex was kind enough to open his shop, had his staff and family there to welcome us with food and drink, and gave us a multi-hour tour of his facility and the amazing work they do (photos coming soon). I will caution you that this is probably not the place to bring your older, "normal" car, for upholstery work. It's right there in the name - custom. That means they don't install skins, they rip apart your old seats, and fabricate a high quality replica with the materials you choose (or they recommend). This does not come cheap, so if you're looking to redo the seats on your $4000 car, it could very well cost you more than the car. If your car is worth $40,000 or $400,000, now it makes a lot more sense. With that said, I drove my 1985 BMW to the event (the damn Alfa was leaking fuel!) and Alex was kind enough to do an on-the-spot repair of my seatback panel when I asked for advice on how to fix it. For free. Other reviews indicate they do some work on "normal" cars sometimes, so its worth asking. What I will caution is don't show up with your cheap aftermarket covers and expect them to install them. Some places will, but they won't. I called these guys looking for help with a vintage 1960's Overman recliner and ottoman. Every furniture upholstery shop around me either turned me down or wouldn't give me an estimate without disassembly, and no guarantee they could actually do the job. I made an appointment to check out the shop and show the chair to Alex and German. They looked it over, were confident that they could do the job and gave me an estimate. I agreed and we set a date to start the project. I dropped off the chair and ottoman, gave a small deposit to cover the material, and a few weeks later they called to say that the job was done and ready to pick up. Automotive shop or not, they knocked this thing out of the park! Really a top-notch job on a difficult vintage piece. These folks gave the highest estimate of three I'd gotten, they had good ratings and fancy cars in the shop, so I assumed they would do a great job. The agreement was that they would replace the headliner and check for leaks, and they actually went above and beyond to put some urethane on the front window to fix the leak they found. Two stars only because of the quality of work on the headliner. There are lumps right in front of the driver and passenger's face (see photos). I made a complaint on the day, and Alex said it was because the substrate wasn't flat (seems flat if you run your finger along it), and I was noticing this defect "because I just paid for it". He said I should drive the car for a few days and see if it still bothers me. I returned a week later, and Alex immediately offered to take the car back. It was a strange conversation, and it was unclear to me what he was actually going to do to fix the issue. He said "trust us, we're professionals", so I left it with them. When I picked the car up that evening, I asked what they had done for the front of the headliner. He said "we steamed it". It looked the same as before, and I left disappointed. read more

Needed a mount built for new style bucket seats I ordered for my boat that would be sturdy enough for my bass boat and found these guys close to where I live. Talked to Alex, setup a time to drop off my boat and in less than a week they had the new bucket seats installed and I'd have to say were build into the boat better than factory as they were very well supported by the newly built frame. Alex is a smooth talker, but beware. I took my convertible because the rear glass window was coming unglued. He said it was fixable and they'd work on it the same day. When I went to pick up the car, it was clear they'd done a quick and shoddy job, but he assured me that whatever they did would hold up. Also, they didn't clean up after themselves, left dirty work cloths, marker and scissors in the car. And charged me $250 f or what might have been 15 minutes of work after having quoted me "$200 or less." The whole thing fell apart two days later; I called him and he couldn't have cared less. Asked me to bring it back in, but judging from his attitude, I had no desire to do that. Took it to the shop across the street, and all was good. Basically, felt like my money was stolen. I hope he enjoyed his ill-gotten gains. Not enough money to go after them, but I have told everyone I know to never step foot in there. read more

I recently had the front seats, armrest, and headrests of my 1995 BMW reupholstered at Sidco. They did nothing short of an amazing job. The seats look amazing and my car smells like new. They also made it as convenient as possible for me since I couldn't leave my car there for the entire time. So they took the passenger seat out and made two skins so that it was only a day and a half to have the job done. I had a front seat, and the rubber trunk mat on my vintage Lancia repaired. This might not sound like a big deal, but these original items are rare and not easy to find. Largely because of this, it is better to repair, rather than completely replace. Alex, the owner/operator, and his staff are expert craftsmen, they pay very close attention to detail. Places like this are the reason Yelp needs to allow zero star reviews. I brought my vehicle into Sid's to have the Recaro seats in the front reupholstered in new material I provided as well as have arm rests added to both seats. I was told only the driver's seat could have arm rests because of the way the back of the passenger seat was shaped. Okay...no problem. I was told it would take 3 days total, and I let the owner know that I was leaving town in that vehicle Thursday and needed it back in the promised time frame. Fast forward to Thursday, vehicle isn't done. Should be done late tomorrow (when I'm supposed to be mid-roadtrip). I show up Friday and much to my dismay, the driver's seat is now sitting where the passenger seat was, and the passenger seat is now on the driver's side. This is not good because the driver's seat has electronic lumbar support for the driver...now that's not how it is. The (former) passenger seat (that couldn't have arm rests) now has (big, clunky) arm rests and is sitting on the driver's side. The material for the seats is a plaid pattern, and the plaid lines up on the front and back of the driver's seat, but not on the passenger seat. It is not aligned properly so it looks rushed and poorly done. On top of that, both seats originally had very helpful map pockets built-in to the back of them...they didn't add those back to the seats like they were supposed to. When I ask the owner, WTF!?!! He tells me, "This is the way we discussed it. It's supposed to be this way!" Uh...NO!! Finally after 10-15 mins he explains, okay, maybe I am right. He is wrong and it was done wrong (and late) because he was rising his motorcycle the previous day and got injured, so he was unable to finish the job and his staff just finished it up for him without asking questions. For a job that costs $1,650 to recover two seats (don't forget I supplied the material), I feel this lack of professionalism is totally unacceptable. The owner told me he would fix the situation by having his guys switch the seats back and put the arm rests on the driver's seat instead of the passenger seat....and I would only have to pay for labor!! WHAT!? 1) They should be offering to fix their mistakes FOR FREE. They screwed it up and were more concerned for riding motorcycles than successfully running the business that allowed them to buy those motorcycles. 2) They already messed things up once, why would I ever trust them with my prized vehicle again? Stay far away from this place!! read more

Wow. I came to this place due to all of the amazing reviews I've seen. And boy, do I regret it... I came to Sidco upholstery looking to have my OEM leather shifter boot and E-Brake boot replaced with alcantara ones (that I supplied). I emailed the shop over a week before and scheduled my time (also sent reference photos). When I arrived the guy said it would take about an hour to get done and took down my name and number to call me when it was ready. He did not call me. I didn't think anything of it. I thought maybe he forgot so I stopped by to pick up the car an hour before closing and my car was never worked on. I dropped it off at 9am. The guy told me that I should've called, which is extremely unprofessional when I gave him my business and my car thinking he would get it done. He then apologized and said it "will for sure get done tomorrow". Again, I was never called. I came back at 3:30 and told one of his employees to give me my keys back and that I am leaving. I can't believe anyone could be this unprofessional when they have people's treasured cars in their hands. What an absolute disgrace. read more

I highly recommend Sid's Custom Upholstery!!! The stitching on the canvas on my convertible top started to unravel so rainwater would get in if it was not fixed. I called several upholstery repair shops that told me to replace the whole top. So glad I found Sid's... where Alex said over the phone that they might be able to hand sew where the stitching was coming out, and suggested I come in for an estimate, which I did. He confirmed that they should be able to hand stitch it and just charge me just for the necessary time. The end result looks great, the price was reasonable, and I do not have to worry about rain getting in the back window nor buy a whole new top!! Thanks Alex!! Toyota referred me here. I had a seat that was tearing, and I got my car detailed just so when I took it in, they could match as close to the original seat color as possible. I made an appointment for a few days later to get the work done. I left my car for the afternoon, and then picked it up, and they had done a superb job with the seat, and I was very pleased with the color match.
