Dave's Body Shop deserves a big shout-out since Liam (I learned the gent's name from some other reviews) made me very happy today. I went there for an estimate on repairing an off-kilter driver's side rear view mirror. He looked at it and went to get an associate who expertly fixed the housing of the mirror. When we realized that there was a gap where the mirror was attached to the door, Liam asked his associate to get some tools. While his employee was getting his tools, Liam already told me that he wouldn't charge me a dime. Some work with tools later, the mirror looked like before I had damaged it backing into a driveway. Needless to say, I was elated at the outcome and couldn't have been more pleased with the gentlemen's helpfulness and overall courteous attitude. THANK YOU! read more

Staff was very unprofessional. The main office gal seemed to more interested in looking at accounting paperwork than helping me. The young women who walked out with me to my car was super sweet but had no clue and said she would have the main man call me later that day. I had made an appointment why was the " main giy" not there? Why didn't he call to reschedule. Office was a mess. Terrible experience. Definitely cannot recommend. read more

Years ago, something flew out of a truck while I was on the freeway and punctured a hole in my door and bottom panel. I obtained 2 estimates, and Dave's Body Shop price was way lower than the other one. I ended up working with Liem (the owner) and am so glad I did! Liem made the door look like brand new! He even smoothed out a random dent that was in my bumper for free. He was so nice and drove from his home to meet me on a Sunday in order for me to get my car back, since I would not have been able to do so during a work day. Fast forward to now...my neighbor hit my car and I came back for another estimate. Liem knew exactly what to do and took tons of pictures of the car for me to give to my insurance. When the car estimate adjuster asked for pictures of the mileage and vin number, I was like, "Here you go!". Lesson learned, after a car accident, make sure to take pictures of what has been and also what has NOT been damaged, including license plate numbers. I wish I could work with Liem on the current repairs but due to dealing with my insurance over the holidays, I could only work with one of their approved vendors if I wanted my car fixed soon. I chipped the paint of my car a size of 1/2 a dime, like nothing, by scratching against this yellow small poll. The worse of it was the yellow paint got on the my car. OCD that I am I wanted to fix it. I yelped to search for a 4 star facility near my work and found Dave. Reading the rave reviews I called him. I explained the situation to him and he said come in, no appointment necessary and it will cost me $100. Okay not bad. So I show up today as he said to do, he took one look at my brand new car and gave me an estimate of $700. WT*? I said to him you said $100 on the phone, and he shook his head and said too much work. I've attached a photo of that too much work. You decide. I walk right out. As I was walking to my car I decided to checkout the auto body next door. Gregg from Bedford auto body was fantastic. He cleaned my car with this lyco something or the other free of charge and told me to go to a auto paint shop and touch up the ding myself. Now that's customer service. I had a great experience at Dave's after I needed a big dent on my rear bumper fixed. I brought it in and got an estimate within minutes, which was substantially cheaper than the other two places I visited. I brought my car in on a Monday morning and it was all ready to go 48 hours later. The repair was perfect - you wouldn't be able to tell there was a dent there at all. Luckily, this was my first experience with a body shop, so I didn't really know what to expect, but this is definitely a mom and pop type of place. It's not fancy at all, and it was a little disconcerting at first, but everything turned out great. The communication from Liem (aka "Dave") is not the strongest, but he gets the job done right. He not only ripped me off with a falsified invoice, but left my car in poor condition by "fixing" it with broken, crap pieces. To begin, Dave responded to my inquiry promptly, asked me to drop off my broken part, had it repaired and painted within a couple days, all at a great price without sacrificing the quality of work! My car is very low; I hit a curb and cracked my carbon fiber front lip. I thought I was going to have to just throw this expensive aftermarket part away but Dave was able to reinforce it with fiber glass and have it looking like new (minus the carbon fiber look that could not be saved any way you cut it). I am very pleased with his work and would recommend his services to anyone in need of auto body repair and painting. read more

Liem (the owner) of this shop is honest and does great work. I came here with a simple broken fog light assembly that needed to be replaced due to highway debris. I called around a few shops in the area and the owner of the shop gave me the most reasonable pricing for fixing the issue which only took about 15 minutes. During the removal of the old plastic trim piece/cover of the fog light the plastic clips that hold the trim broke down (7 year old car), Liem installed the fog light that I had brought to him and told me he would order a replacement plastic trim piece to finish the install and to go home without asking for payment. He called me a day later, I came in to the shop he snapped the trim piece into place within a few minutes and collected his fee, most shops wouldn't have been this reasonable on pricing nor "cool" with a customer driving away with their car after doing 90% of the work. This guy is honest and I would recommend his shop to anyone. read more

I had to get the rust off of the roof of my 10 year old corolla . I got a bunch of quotes ranging from $900 - $3000. I went with Dave's because Liem's quote was the cheapest. It was a dark, stormy night. I pulled out of the empty parking lot, thinking-- ahh, a warm night by the fireplace........ CRUNCH. Crap, that was the fender!!! On a pole!! And, I have no fireplace!! I thought my night was ruined. But then I found..... DAVE'S AUTO BODY. Liem, who once was a minister in Vietnam, has owned and run this shop WELL over 10 years. Here is why he is effin badass: 1. He gave me an AWESOME price for: fender replacement, fender paint job, bumper paint job 2. The repair & paint job on my car was SO GOOD, I couldn't remember which side I had rammed into the stupid pole. He also received a 2006/7 Clean Bay Award, and keeps minimum wage bulletins & family photos in his office. The feeling I get from Liem is fairness. It's not going to be the highest end job nor is the shop the prettiest to look at but they do good work and do charge a fair amount less than other shops (in my case 25-40% less than the 5 other shops I had do estimates). I bought a used car and it had typical issues like scuffed bumpers, some bird poo poo damage and a small dent in the right rear quarter panel. I was quoted a price and when I picked up the car I noticed slight imperfections in the finish (could likely be buffed out). I pointed it out and was given more than fair $$$ off compensation. Work was for the most part fine. Color match was spot-on and the dent was repaired w/o issue. Only minor problem was the rear bumper which was spot painted vs having the whole thing removed and painted for considerably more $. In the right light I can see the paint differences but my car is silver metallic which is admittedly a hard match/fade. All in all the service and price was great for what I wanted done to the car. It's 9 years old and I didn't need a showroom finish, just something to keep the nicks and dents from bugging me. If I had a brand new car and insurance was covering the cost of the repairs I might go somewhere else. read more

I took my car in because the hood looked like it had 2nd degree burns and was starting to peel bad. I was considering taking it to a cheap place like Maaco, but I couldn't put my car and self through that. I stopped by Dave's one afternoon due to the ratings here. It's a hole in the wall shop and was a little leery, but I talked to the owner Liem, who was hard to understand, but the price was clear, so that put me at ease. He looked it over and just blurted it out. I said, "$xxx out the door?!". He said "yeah", so I took it back the following day. The price was almost half of what other shops were charging and actually more in line with Maaco pricing. I just got it back today and have no regrets. The paint job matches the car and I'm totally happy. To those who are driving up and down Middlefield looking for this shop. It's in the same area as "Bedford Auto Body", which I hear is a great place too. You can see a boat in the driveway and the sign is more prominent for Bedford, since Dave's is below it in smaller lettering. read more

I've been to Dave's Body Shop many times before, I'm unfortunately not that great of a driver and have been in a couple of scrapes. Liem, the owner here, is very reliable. His prices are GREAT! This is one of the few shops in the bay area that I come back to. He doesn't overcharge for his work and it comes back looking like a brand new car. My Honda has been painted here a couple years ago and the paint is still holding up, I am very surprised because I've been to other shops before and their work isn't up to Dave's Body Shop's standard. I've been recommending all of my friends to come here and they love Liem's price too. His shop is a bit small, it actually is in this weird area and is right next to the Bedford Shop. Hate giving bad reviews but contrary to most of the other reviews posted here, my experience was bad. I had a small dent from touching the curb but I got an estimate to redo the entire bumper (he did not even look at the dent for more than a blink of an eye) After that, we reached a deal to just get rid of the dent and touch up a little (as opposed to paint the entire thing). The result still had some dents and the touch up paint was much more visible than the scratches because the paint didn't match at all. Dave I feel bad to give a bad review but I hope you either make this right for me or at least reflect on this and improve. read more

A little hard to find the first time, it is up the driveway past another bodyshop next door to Francesca's Bar on Middlefield. The best, most honest, lowest priced body and paint work ever. I have 5 grown children and have been the designated auto care taker for the extended family for the last 10 years. Liem at Dave's has performed plenty of accident repair, auto painting, window replacement, and other body hardware work for my family and me. Always great service and great pricing. Pulled up for a free estimate and a nice man came out within seconds. I had a few black marks and scratches on my bumper from turning too closely inside my own garage.. nice. He took a look at my bumper and asked if I would mind if he tried to erase the marks. He went inside to grab some things, came out with his supplies, got to work, and was able to rub off the scratches within minutes. The Lexus dealership quoted me over $750 to fix the bumper and didn't even give me the option of just getting the black marks rubbed off.. perhaps this is common sense but there are people like me who might not know this.. He didn't charge me anything! Honest, straight forward, quick and friendly service. He explained that if I wanted to completely fix the bumper, I'd need to get it taken off and then repainted but that would be too costly and could also not match the rest of the car. read more

My family has been had Liem at Dave's Auto Body do EVERY car incident we've had for the last seven years. There have been almost 5 times in the last year alone that we've had to get car body parts repaired. Liem always has great prices and great work. He and his team always get the work done in one or two days on my personal car. I believe he had fixed my brother's car over a span of a month because my brother had pretty much totalled his car. *update 6/4/09 They do not put flex additive in the paint when painting bumpers and as such, paint will begin to flake off in these areas after a couple years. Also, if you get hit (read below), the paint will chip off in a larger area than a car that has been painted properly. I recently went back to this body shop after my neighbor hit me and denied doing it, even though I saw it happen and tried to flag him down but he just drove away. Since he won't admit doing it I would have to pay a deductible if I went through my insurance. I started getting estimates to fix my back bumper. I pulled into Liem's shop and Liem did not smile and greet me. I said "do you remember me?" and he mumbled something. He walked to the paint scrape and said 400 dollars. Eesh. I've had estimates at actual good shops for that same price. What happened to my Liem that had amazing prices? I guess my own personal body shop is no more. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *original You know when you read those reviews about restaurants that start with something like "I'm afraid to write about this place because then it won't be quaint anymore?" Yay for VTEC. Liem, the guy that's always there, is awesome. He knows who I am now and physically laughs when he sees me pull up the driveway. Then he shakes his head and pulls out his clipboard and starts walking around my car. He does a good job. A really, really good job. Overspray is not a problem here and color matching doesn't seem to be either. You can't tell where they did the work, it all just looks like how it came out of the factory. They have a spray room on site which he led me into. This place is not on the street, it's behind another business. You drive down old middlefield and then turn down a driveway. I think it says "bay exhaust" or something similar, I don't remember ever seeing a "daves body shop" sign. (but then again, I'm such a good driver that I haven't needed to come here recently. they may have put up a sign) I came back to my car from Safeway and found little marks all over the door. I had no idea what they were from, but started freaking out anyways and drove my car here. Expecting to pay 100 dollars to have it repaired I was a little uneasy. After all, I had just spent 1000 to have my car repainted. So when Liem said they would take care of it right away i was slightly relieved. A woman mixed paint and knelt over by my car, still on the driveway, and painted in the scratches, then did some clear thing, and came back to me, done. That was it. No charge. read more

Don't be turned off by the shop's appearance. Took my car to another shop that offered some B.S. guarantee price or no guarantee price... One was 3x and the other was 2x Dave's price. For reference the guarantee was their work was good for 20 years. First I hope I have a different car in 20 years. Second are you suggesting you will do a crappy job with the no guarantee? I consider myself OCD and Dave's work was immaculate at half the price. Shop with bare bones appearance, but the work and price was amazing. I hit my car against the curb while parking which caused the front bumper to detach from the side and a part was dangling from the bottom. I got an estimate of 1000$ to fix this from a neighbouring body shop (they wanted to refurbish or replace the bumper). Plus they wanted to keep the car for 3 days. At this shop they fixed up the car in 125$ in a single day. After the fix, it is hard to find any evidence of my crash with the curb. Fully recommend. read more

First of all, I read all the positive reviews here and decided to have the tailgate on my 4Runner painted at Dave's body shop. I had dropped a piece of wood on the tailgate which created a few dents and cracked the paint in a few places, so needed a body shop to fix it. I got three quotes from three highly rated shops and Dave's came in at $600 - $200 below the other two quotes - so decided to give him the business. I dropped off the car and picked it up again 3 days later. At first glance it looked fine and I drove off a happy camper, but on closer inspection I was really disappointed. 1) Masking tape was still left in a few places 2) There was running (built up) paint in a few places 3) One dent was not filled, just painted over and can still be seen under the new paint (quarter sized). 4) One rubber gasket around a panel was not correctly re-fitted I might be anal but I paid for a job to be done that wasn't done right so am rating this accordingly. The quality might be okay if you have an old banger that needs to be fixed up but this is definitely not high end quality. I guess you get what you pay for! read more

I don't really write reviews, but Liem really did me a favor today. Everywhere else I went to quote me at least 3 times what he did for something I thought was quite straight forward to fix up. I told Liem I'd like to go for the cheapest options available and he did just that, and the bang for the buck is unparalleled. Take time to talk to him about what you want, and he will layout all the options for you. I like the fact that there's a lot of room to discuss with him, so that depends on what you want, you can get a cheap or expensive fix. I was skeptical, and you should too when shopping around, but I'm skeptical no more and will refer all my friends to Liem's place. read more

Liam at Dave's Body Shop does excellent work and is reasonable, quick and reliable. I have used him on several repair jobs on my Mercedes CLK 430 and he was able to get the job done must faster than some of the other expensive MBZ certified shops and was way less expensive. He has a very small shop and if you don't mind not going to a fancy shop with espresso machines and drop off service, but want an honest deal. I would choose Dave's Body Shop. I have been impressed with his work for such a tiny shop and he always purchases OEM, original manufacturer equipment parts and shows you the shipping packaging. read more

Pretty impressed with Dave's. I had left front damage on my Honda after the collision. Went first to shop we used in Sunnyvale and quota was high and they can't take car until two weeks later. Dave's owner Liam gave very reasonable estimate. It was Saturday. Tuesday i brought car in. Liam said - 5 to 7 days. OK Saturday same week he called - car is ready. The car looks very good. I showed Dave my car expecting that he would give a quote to buff it out. He said however that these scratches require taking off the panels and repaint which would cost thousands of dollars. I knew this is not true and walked away. I had mostly minor clear coat scratches that don't require anything like this. I took 3000 grit 3M sandpaper, rubbing compound and fixed one of the items Dave wanted to repaint in 10 minutes. It looks just like new after my quick amateur job. read more
