Average food, but service is good. Relaxing Saturday atmosphere made our lunch a bit better, however we won't be back. We strolled into Siamese Kitchen to taste a different take on Thai food. Upon a close examination of the menu, we've decided to get something you cannot go wrong with. We've started with a fresh coconut, Fresh Spring roll, then Pad See Ew with prawns, and vegetarian Pad Thai with fried Tofu. Coconut arrived in timely manner and was cold, fresh, the way we love it. Appetizer fresh roll was ok, but it tasted like silver noodle weren't cooked properly, undercooked. The sauce was mostly sweet. Pad Thai was a disaster: Tofu was too fried on the outside, mushy on the inside. Overlooked noodles, too little peanuts, and no spice whatsoever. Why no spice? Pad See Ew was ok, but usually it is a bit more saucy in other places. A bummer was a fruit flies attack: they started to pop out of nowhere, cruising around attempting to land into our plates. When I brought it to server's attention he said they were probably coming from outside. Ok, than what? Anyway, the food was mediocre, flies were annoying, coconut was good. Like the decor and ambience. Bright enough yet still pleasant enough for nice romantic setting. Started with Some Tum that is papaya salad, tangy fish sauce vinaigrette makes the dish very refreshing and some spice too. The prawn Claypot with glass noodle is very yummy. First time eating here and was pleasantly impressed with the amount of food. Service was excellent and our waitress was fantastic and friendly. This place has been hubby's favorite. We have been here many many many times. Their food is just great. I tried their catfish, pad thai, eggplant delight, grilled chicken salad etc... they are all great. Hubby is a big fan of rice and his favorite has been the pineapple fired rice. 2.5 stars. All the Thai places within a 5 mile radius are pretty similar. The taste is toned down to suit the American taste, and the dishes offered are often the same, much like American Chinese food. This place is no exception. They have a lunch menu where you can choose 2 items to go with rice, or just their regular menu. Everything was pretty average. Service was kind of inattentive though so I rounded the score down. Siamese Kitchen is a fabulous family-owned Thai restaurant. When we first moved to the peninsula from Seattle (where fabulous Thai food is abundant) we had trouble finding a place that compared favorably to what we were used to. Thank god we finally found Siamese Kitchen. Since discovering it 6+ months ago, we have consistently gone back several times a month. The quality of the food and diversity of flavors is remarkable. Every time we go back we are amazed by how delicious the food is. Their pad thai is a staple of ours. Every part of the dish is perfection. Additionally, they have an amazing "early-bird" special from 5-7pm. As a part of the deal you get solid size portions of two entrees, as well as delicious soup, a very fresh salad, rice and ice cream for dessert. The salad and soup are so good we order the special more because of how much we like these extras than for the deal itself. Their Thai tea is also fantastic. Outside of the food, the wait staff has always been absolutely fantastic, always making us feel welcomed, and the restaurant is always super clean. The only word of caution to share is that the food can be on the spicy side - you might want to downgrade a spice star from your norm. In summary, cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. San Carlos and the peninsula are lucky to have this gem! read more

This is the best Thai restaurant in the South Bay by far! I've been there many times and had a lot of their dishes I recommend: Lemongrass chicken- a lot of flavor and lots of chicken Pineapple fried rice- huge portion! Lots of pineapple and flavor Any of the curries are great, my personal favorite is the Massaman Beef Curry. Service is attentive and helpful. Their Thai iced tea and Thai iced coffees are great too. We got a table right away. Got a chance to look over the menu and was ready to order. We waited for few minutes for the waiter to come by, but he never did. We had to flag him down to let him know we were ready to order. He came by about 15 minutes later to take our order. The food took a ridiculously long time about 45 minutes or so. We're big fans of the restaurant! Like other reviewers, the interior is warm and a bit subdued, and we often see regulars there. The service is totally quick/attentive/friendly and the food is solid Thai. I also think they've upped their game on desserts recently. Fantastic location right on Laurel street. What we love most is we always feel very taken-care of by the servers, as well as the owner Surreen. Have had take-out a few other times here. The pad thai remains good and I always get it. We also like the yellow curry chicken ($8.95). It's in a good, creamy sauce with coconut milk, potato, onion and carrots. The only down side to this dish is that it doesn't include steamed white rice, which to me is an essential part of making this a complete dish! So when we didn't know the first time it wasn't included, we came home and basically ate stew! So, be sure to ask for a side of rice (additional $2)! This addition makes the dish come in @ $10.95, not exactly what I'd call a bargain, but it's good! Tonight, however, I was in the mood for soup since it was cold and rainy out! We ordered the Tom Kha Mushroom (coconut milk mushroom soup) and it was really a let down. It looked really good contained a creamy broth with a good amount of tofu, baby corn, carrots, onions and mushrooms. The mushrooms were like someone cut up raw mushroom halves and threw them in the soup! Yuk! The broth was very salty, unbalanced flavor wise and just plain gross! We each took a bite and couldn't eat anymore. The rest was thrown away! What a waste of $8.95!! Wow, I've lived in this neighborhood for three years now and have never been to this great restaurant til today! Four of us shared a sumptuous array of delightful dishes. Chili paste prawns, numerous curry delights, and wicked-good spring rolls. Excellent pad thai, with a great flavor balance. Great staff too. A pad thai dish for under $10?!! This place is a straight victory for the pocket of pad thai lovers. I've never paid under $13 for pad thai with shrimp, but this place throws shrimp and chicken into their pad thai for $8.95 + tax. If you've been scouring the Bay Area and/or the world at large looking for that unambiguously perfect dish of Pad Thai, scour no longer: Siamese Kitchen has that dish, along with some really delicious satay and Thai Iced Tea to go along with it. I cannot comment on the other food they serve, because the Pad Thai is just so fantastic here that no one in my household ever seems to want to order anything else; we just get more of those delicious noodles in proportion to our appetites, and then some. In other respects, Siamese Kitchen is a charming and typically rather subdued restaurant where the staff is very genuinely warm and friendly. I always see repeat customers there, which is a good proxy for how awesome a place is. The sole downside is a dearth of parking, which has been a much larger problem of late than it used to be on account of a large construction project going on nearby. read more

The total tab came out to $134. For a $$ restaurant, the average dish was over $20. None of this would be an issue, if the portions weren't tiny. Nor this would have prompted such a negative review had the dishes been amazing or noteworthy. When the delivery came, the portion sizes were so small we realized it could only feed four, and had to order from another restaurant for the remaining 4 people. The worst part is that the proprietress confirmed that my order could feed 8. The whole experience left me feeling deeply cheated and very hungry. read more

I really like this place! Nothing fancy, just a great place to sit down, relax and enjoy some great Thai food. I ordered the Pumpkin Curry Chicken and it was delightful. The sauce was spicy enough but not overpowering and the pumpkin wasn't mushy. It's a dish I normally wouldn't order but I'm really glad I took a chance. It was wonderful. My friend had the Red Curry Chicken and it looked and tasted amazing. Our server was on the ball. Our water glasses were never half empty and we were regularly checked up on but it wasn't annoying or obnoxious. Our server was such a cute and sweet lady. The prices are very reasonable for the amount of food they bring you. I'll definitely be returning to try some of the other dishes. So glad Laurel St. has a GOOD Thai restaurant. read more

The tom-yum soup is great here and always a favorite of mine. Other dishes are very good as well. It is hard to go wrong with the taste of the food here. That being said, the service is a different story. If you value food taste over service then you shouldn't have too much of a problem. If you do value service on equal ground as the food quality then you may be in for an interesting trip. The service here is often sub par. For example, on several take-out orders I have placed, when I came in to pick up the food, I see them scrambling to start making some part of my meal they forgot to see through. Take tonight, an order of soup was placed at a given time. They said 15-20 minutes. Fast forward 25 minutes later when I walk through the doors ot pick up my soup. BAM! Not ready. The place was almost empty at the time so its not like the 2 cooks were that busy. The girl running the food apologized and told me to wait 5 minutes as they are still making it. What they failed to realize was I was standing 7 feet from where the girl told the cooks to start making my soup. So i learned today that my soup only takes 5 minutes to make, not 15-20. So moral of the story, when you call in for a take-out order, call again 15 minutes later so they are signaled that they should actually start making your meal now. It will save you some unnecessary waiting time. This place is a bipolar mess with great food that is complimented with bad service. Woe is me. read more
