We had the crispy wings, roti with yellow curry, braised beef panang curry, beef pad see ew, and pineapple fried rice. The roti is to die for. Perfect delectable flakey texture with the warm flavorful curry. Crispy wings were nice and crispy with the savoury sweet n sticky tamarind sauce, loved the fried basil. Pad see ew and the fried rice were very solid, great staple dishes that didn't disappoint. I personally would've preferred a different meat for the panang curry because it was more tender than I'm used to, but still tasty. We topped it off with mango sticky rice, thai tea, pink blossom milk, and a thai iced lemon tea. It was my first time having pink blossom milk and it tastes just like bubblegum. Called in "to-go" order - 15 min wait time on a Sun night @ 6:30 - awesome! 3 stars, based on food alone - was tasty, but not off the charts. Had the "Pad Prik Khing" @ $19; super heavy on the green beans, decent amount of protein, good sauce. Spice level: "Medium" is pretty mild for those that r considering heat level. It's just good. Yes, the owners are nice and the service is good, but my review is mainly for the food, and in my opinion, it's not quite amazing enough to justify the price. I used to go to Isarn, and then I switched to Chuan Chim Thai, which is 20 minutes away from my house but . Anyways, I was really hoping this place would be better since it's closer to my house. Unfortunately, it's not. The food is good enough, but the meat in my red curry was a hard no for me. I definitely won't be getting that again next time. I do hope they succeed, though, because it's in my neighborhood, and I would love to drive 10 minutes instead of 20 for some truly delicious Thai food. read more

The place is really busy and the service was really slow. Took over 10 mins to even get water out to us. They are incredibly kind though. The parking lot is challenging to get out if you pulled in and it's full. You would have to reverse out onto El Camino. We sat outside and it was freezing cold and the heater was broken. Friends of ours introduced us to Dara Thai and it's quickly become our favorite Thai restaurant on the peninsula. We've eaten here twice and every dish we ordered was amazing. The appetizers, entrees, and drinks are all worth it imo. Searching Yelp, we found this restaurant that opened in Belmont about 7 weeks ago and wanted to try it out. It was a nice find. We like eating healthy foods. At Dara Thai, we found four salad options: Papaya Salad, Larb, Yum Beef and Yum Seafood. We tried the papaya salad and the larb, with chicken and ordered a Thai BBQ Chicken as a separate protein dish. We were happy with all items. The chicken used in the larb salad was ground chicken, so it was a different style than the barbecue chicken. The barbeque chicken is cooked with the skin on. We found this dish to be a little bit oily. We would recommend that they offer an option to have it cooked skinless for those people who want a healthier version. We'll suggest that next time we're there. The server was really nice. We sat down and were greeted promptly. After ordering, our food was served quickly. There is ample street parking at this restaurant. We like small neighborhood restaurants and plan to go back. read more

Down to earth home style Thai cooking with a playful twist. Service was friendly, prompt, and attentive. Thai flavor was definitely there; however, dishes were very under seasoned to my taste. The good; the fried tofu was crispy and was well complemented by the sweet and sour chili sauce, the shrimp, fish, and squid in the Pra Ram were fresh, tender and not overcooked, Pad Thai noodles were cooked al dente, loved the Papaya salad in the Trout Delight which compensated for the lacking saltiness in the fried trout. Seems like this cozy family-run Thai restaurant recently just opened. There's plenty of outdoor seating (with heaters it seems like!) and indoors, but I think there's still some service kinks to work out. We weren't sure if we were supposed to order at the counter or wait for staff to come to us as there was quite a delay between getting the menu and waiting for someone to check on us. The tables next to us, although unoccupied, still needed to be cleaned off as well. We ordered the sizzling seafood ($25), pad see ew ($19), eggplant ($19). The spice level wasn't super spicy for us (we requested spicy for the seafood dish), and it was more salty than I anticipated. Regardless, flavors were good. The pad see ew was standard, and so was the eggplant. There was a slight mix-up when we only got veggies, and no eggplant, but they quickly remedied the issue. Overall, not a bad start but I think they might need to have more staff. They were quite busy on a late weekend afternoon for lunch, so definitely lots of potential! I also love it when restaurants that have a sink OUTSIDE of the bathroom (so European) because it means I can wash up without needing to wait in line if I don't need the toilet. I wish more restaurants would adopt that approach! read more

Pad Thai 4/5 This was tasty and had a load of shrimp!! Worth the upgrade. Shrimp was cooked perfectly. Eggplant pork 4/5 Tasty and savory. Eggplant well cooked down and blends well with the bell peppers and meat. Meat was tender and juicy. Pad see ew 3/5 Pad see ew needs that wok hei flavor. It's not flavorful enough so not that tasty. Too much random other stuff in it like carrots. Tom yum 2/5 Too sweet and not enough lemongrass. Just really not that tasty for usual tom yum. For veggie and tofu and it was packed with ingredients though. Chicken satay 4/5 This was grilled well and flavorful. The sauce was tasty and went well with the cucumber salad. I absolutely LOVED this restaurant. I've been craving Pad Thai and a Thai Tea and saw this place just opened so of course I had to try it immediately. The ambiance is very gentle and welcoming, and the owner Tanya is a sweetheart. We ordered calamari, pad thai, green curry lunch special that came with rice and salad, and my order of Thai tea. It's the small things that they do that make the service spectacular. My straw was heart shaped and our toothpicks came with cute little characters. We walked in around Sunday 7:30pm. There's both outside and inside seating. We chose to sit outside since our friends had their dog. We ordered seafood tom yum soup, Papaya salad, duck curry, spicy fried rice with pork. Everything was good but the tom yum soup was too sweet for our liking. We asked our waitress if it could made less sweet to save it. She said her mom added more sour to it and it helped. Next time will need to ask for no sugar for the soup. Duck and pork were tender. Good flavors without being too salty. The fried rice and curry portion isn't very big though. Service was fast. Private parking lot and 1 restroom inside. Didn't see an alcohol menu so I'm guessing they don't serve alcohol. read more

Overall, we had a good time and the food was good. Service was a bit busy when we showed up yesterday. My friend had to ask twice on where to be seated and to clean up our table. I was anxious to find out if this was the same Thai restaurant previously here or different owners and would it satisfy my expectations having been to Thailand within the last year. Different owners and fantastic! I have brought my while family to Dara Thai to have them enjoy the variety of dishes offered and all of us were completely satisfied. The family run business has Mama Sandy cooking the authentic Thai cuisine, and daughter Tanya running the restaurant. I was told that Dara means "star", as in a celebrity, named after Sandy's husband who was well known movie star in Thailand. Dara Thai will soon be the "star" Thai cuisine of the peninsula. Healthy portions and extremely tasty with exact control of the spice. Highly recommend any dish. They are all good! read more

I enjoyed my first meal at Dara Thai. The roti was fresh and crisp. The crispy chili fish was tender and spicy. The staff was also friendly. There's also sweet signs of a family owned operation such as a few of owners/employees children were in the store and occupied one table while watching their iPad. That usually indicates you are going to a place with authentic food. One piece of feedback was to season the fish a bit more. This restaurant replaced a previous Thai restaurant at this location. The previous one was good, but you rarely saw anyone there. I went last night (Saturday night) and the place was packed. It was shocking to see the difference. I knew that I was in for a good experience. I came to order takeout. I felt it would be easier to look at a real menu to make my choices vs. looking at an on-line menu. Next time I will order from home. Parking is difficult (because the place is packed and parking is limited at best) and so that I don't have to wait. It took a long time... Keep this in mind if you eat in the dining room. You need to order salads and appetizers to have something to eat during the long wait. I thought the food was really tasty. It was a bit bland for my taste, however. Maybe it's just because I didn't order something spicier. I think next time I'll come and eat in the dining room and enjoy the hustle and bustle and study the menu a bit more. They have a large menu selection, and fun drinks. For food we ordered the fried tofu, cucumber salad, roti with yellow curry, and the eggplant tofu with rice. We loved everything! The food, the service, and a delectable treat for Belmont to have a new Thai restaurant in town. What more can you ask for? The calamari was not your run of the mill rings, and bits. Thick, meaty, juicy, and well seasoned. Accompanied by a smooth aioli and a sweet/spicy Thai sauce. What a great way to start the meal. The pad Thai was well portioned, and tasty as well. No complaints for a classic carb entree. My favorite had to be the green curry lunch special. I chose the 4/5 chili spice level, and was put in a trance. I usually have a high tolerance for heat, and think that it brings out flavor while adding depth to any dish. This did not disappoint. I look forward to making Dara Thai part of my usual restaurant rotation, and can't wait to come back and try out all the other options. read more

This is SUCH a lovely spot!! Came here with my gf and the atmosphere was super cute and cozy. The outdoor seating looked especially nice but we were seated inside which was also nice. The service was great - it felt like a family run establishment and we were greeted with smiles and checked on many times to ensure everything was to our liking. The owners are incredibly nice and the place is clean and friendly, which is the only reason for the two stars. Sadly we were really let down by the flavors. We ordered a ton of dishes to sample, on the grand opening day, and nothing was particularly tastey. Unfortunately I can't say the issue was new opening jitters, nor did we care about the longer wait; The problem was the flavor and recipes themselves. I have NEVER had a massaman that I didn't like.. I was actually shocked how little I liked Dara's. The rangoons did not save the meal, the mango sticky rice was just okay. My daughter's chicken dish looked like Cisco food, the meat looked formed, the portion was small, and the vegetables were minimal and unseasoned. All things considered, the prices here do NOT reflect the quality served. I really wanted this place to be amazing as Thai is one of my favorite cuisines. There are other cheaper and better tasting options nearby that we will be sticking with. read more

Everything tasted authentic and reminded me of the meals I've had in Thailand. The flavors were well-balanced, fresh, and full of flavor.
