The history in this food is fascinating. Family owned and operated for god knows how long I have grown to adore this place. My family and I moved here 3 years ago. Through various town committee meetings, local friends, and just hunger in general... We've grown to prefer Siam's take on Thai and Chinese food. Which from all accounts is honestly a combo of authenticity, catering to local requests, and personal preferences. I could see how an outsider looking in could judge this place differently. The sweet and sour sauce isn't radioactive red, and the egg rolls are tiny hand held bites... Etc. If you're looking for cookie cutter Asian cuisine, you're barking up the wrong tree. But if you're looking for Asian family cooking with lots of love in it. Try it. My likes: The Caramel Chicken Chow Mein (or... The Spicy Rick with Onions as the locals call it) The lunch or manager special. Oh... and the Pad Thai... yum... hot and sour soup. Cheese curds. My wife likes: The Hawaiian Chicken Curry, Brócoli and Beef, Pad sew ew. My kids: pretty much anything with noodles. My daughter loves the wontons and wonton soup.

Ummm... when did ordering out "Drunken Noodles" mean that you get less than 2/3 of the order. (None removed... I've just been cheated.)

I used to enjoy ordering from Saim when visiting Grand Coulee, but after tonight I will never go back. (Old rating 3). Tonight they gave us less than 2/3rd a regular portion. For the first time ever everything was finished when 4 people ordered 4 dishes, and we all felt like we could eat more. ($38+TIP!) (Pictures added) Also, the noodle dishes that were supposed to have veggies had almost none. We ordered a "Chicken Sub Gum" that is only supposed to be Chicken and Veggies -- all the veggies were obviously frozen. (The zig-zag on the carrots & their sogginess was the clear sign.) (See photos.) The "Managers Special" = Lo Mein noodles with veggies had almost no veggies and the noodles were so very dry. (See photos.) We also ordered the "Drunken Noodles" which also was supposed to have veggies and almost had none. The paper to-go chinese food box was litterally 1/2 full... how much did we just pay for barely half a dish??? (See photos.) THEN, the side of "Fried Rice" was litterally only half a scoop of just rice. The pictures show veggies and egg... but no. Just rice. And three bites at that. WTF? All were bland. All was not worth it. I should have just brought it back and demanded my money back. ::SIGH:: ...so sad.

I like the teriyaki chicken here it's not too bad and prices are a tad high but that's ok though still enjoyed the food here and sent home full and happy.

The furniture is light duty but reasonably new. I ordered Won Ton Soup, Chicken Larb (both traditional Thai entrées), and Green Tea. The Won Ton Soup was what the Chinese would call Wor Won Ton, meaning with other ingredients, in this case chicken breast, julienned carrots, romaine lettuce and diced green onion, all in a homemade chicken broth. Indeed the chicken broth was the highlight of the entrée. The won ton noodles had no filling--just noodles. It's the pork sausage that makes the dish, maybe with a shrimp or two, but nope--this was just a good chicken and vegetable soup. The Larb was recognizable as such, but lacked several classic ingredients one would expect--crispy garlic, lemon grass, lime, mint, and peanuts. It did have the crunch of roasted rice, and a hint of fish sauce, but not enough to bind the ground chicken. And the lettuce was served as a chopped salad with carrots, not as scoops for the Larb. Overall, the meal was good, but neither were probably signature entrées of the restaurant. Consequently, I thought the meal was overpriced. And it didn't help that they charged three dollars for hot tea with the meal--complementary anywhere else! I shall have to come back and try their curries for which they claim bragging rights. Otherwise , for this 1st visit it was a 3-star experience, (which is good, right?). I will add, that the two waitresses were excellent, very attentive.

Unfortunately, I was on a work trip, but I could imagine this being the first stop then walking off the food. It is on the smaller side of restaurants, but the evening I visited, there was a party of 8 seated towards the back. I'd recommend parties of 2-4 max, but they can accommodate more if it's a slower night. The service was good, nothing over the top, but nothing below average. As soon as I entered, I was greeted and sat at one of the high tops. This high top was on the smaller side, but since I was just a party of one, it was reasonable and I another high top right next to me to use as well. The food came out pretty quickly, which was nice and they were easy to reach if I needed anything. Very welcoming atmosphere. I ordered the crab Rangoon, crispy chicken Thai basil, and a Thai Iced coffee. The server recommended the crab Rangoon when I asked her which she would choose between the shrimp rolls, spicy crispy chicken wings, or the crab Rangoon. They were solid, nothing crazy, but good. The crispy chicken Thai basil was decent as well; again nothing over the top, but the right portion with some heart shaped rice to go with it. In my opinion, it could use a little more spice. I went with the medium, but it was definitely not spicy at all, so I requested the spice tray to fix that. The Thai iced coffee was exactly what I would want it to taste like. Yes, I would recommend this place. Keep the party smaller. I'll have to try another dish on my next trip out here.

The service I received was top notch! Molly, Vickie, and Jonathan were really cool, friendly, and went above and beyond for me. I fell in love (LOVE!) with their chocolate soda, literally! Hands down, it's absolutely the best chocolate drink I've ever had. I would go in daily to get one order to drink immediately and 1-2 drinks to go (no ice, I would chill it in the hotel fridge). I loved the drink so much, I actually went across the street to Aspens Grove and bought two pitchers, so I could get enough of the drink to share with friends (11 people in total!) And yes, everyone loved it! The chocolate soda was more chocolate milk, since they had a soda water shortage, but if it's as tasty as the chocolate milk - oh my! Other pros- everything they use is either home grown (they have their own organic farm) or sourced locally whenever possible. All ingredients are of high quality and organic (also whenever possible). My first meal was their curry chicken salad which had great flavor and coconut flakes which added a nice texture! Vickie is the master chef and the magician behind their dishes and drinks. She took time to come out and share the chocolate soda recipe with me. I'll tell you this much- she makes an amazing dark chocolate ganache as the base of their chocolate drinks! She not only shared the recipe, but told me where I could go to get the highest quality chocolate and at the best price too! I have 15 bars, so I will make it at home soon! In the group of 11 friends I shared the drink with- a friend's son told her that she needed to get a pitcher and take it over to Oliver's too, to get more chocolate milk! It is so tasty and I'm so thankful that Vickie gave me the recipe and that Molly demonstrated step by step how she makes it! Cons- when it gets busy, it can be slow, but honestly, I felt it was worth the wait. We will be coming back to Winthrop a lot, and I plan to make Oliver's one of my first stops (if not the first!) on all future trips!
