Egusi Soup
Marquice M.

Make sure to call in order if you want it to go, they take about 20 minutes on a day that's not so busy. I'm an American, Oklahoma resident, Make sure to tell them to trim the fat off the beef if you're not a fan of fat on your beef. This spot serves great food, the beef is really good in the Okra and Egusi Soups! A great place to experience authentic foods.

Suya - $10

I ordered suya and they only filled up the bowl halfway for $10. Second, the suya was DRY!!!! I was excited when I came across this restaurant because I have been looking for a good place for Suya but I would never order again.

a styrofoam container with rice and vegetables

Once again I failed to read yelp reviews before eating at a restaurant and paid for it. Like a number of reviews state the meat portions are very small- I ordered the goat and rice and received 3 small pieces of goat most of which were bone. One piece was a vertebrae with practically no meat on it. When I asked the owner about portions he said it was due to covid. Sure. The rice wasn't bad, but I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

goat meat pepper soup to go. not spicy at all
Claire P.

it's cold outside and i really wanted some goat meat pepper soup. I just didn't want to make it myself. I really really wish I had. I would have saved myself $13. this was just basically boiled goat meat in its water. where was the spice, the pepper, the uziza, uda? it was overly salty. that was all I could taste. the few reviews this place had was what led me to order today. I don't know if I would come back to try other things now. my only positive was that the meat was soft. I liked that, some naija places will serve u hard meat. I will looking for a good naija restaurant.. this is why I miss Houston. it's been a hit or miss in dallas

When is chicken black

Where do I start. Okay lets start with my daughter and I wanted to do something exciting during spring break. We decided to try a few Nigerian food dishes so we found this restaurant on yelp. When we walked in there was an older lady that sat at the table so we asked do we order here she nodded her head so we assumed that meant yes. Oh and she states they are in the back. My daughter and I looked over the menu for a few and then we noticed a bell. I rang the bell and a young women appeared from the kitchen, I greet her with hello and she greets us with DID YOU CALL. I say no were we supposed to and she says no. So i say its okay if we have to wait and she says yes i know. We order #3 Egusi soup and #11 jollif rice. The young lady takes the ticket and walks to the back. She comes out a few times with other orders and looks at us and says did i take your order. We say yes and wait. When our order is ready we were called over with hand jesters so rude. To sum it up the service was beyond rude the moment we walked in and I should have walked right back out because the food was disgusting flavorless and had no spice. Yuck just look at the pictures of said chicken

Worse experience ever. Food to go was horrible. They gave me scraps for meat & they have absolutely false advertisement
Amicha T.

Worse experience in the world especially for me coming to Texas for the first time and coming to this restaurant. Customer service is horrible. They forgot half of the things we ordered. They have major false advertisement on their menu, or I personally think they charged me more because I ordered such a big amount of food& they thought I was stupid. I ordered jollof rice and chicken to go & the chicken was extremely hard and black with a full container of rice. It was a waste of money honestly. If your looking for a nice African Restaurant in Dallas Texas please go else where.

It directs to an article about this restaurant on D Magazine website. Not sure why the owner has not noticed and corrected that yet. If there is no website then Google should not show it at all. It is just confusing to customers. Second, their restaurant menu is not up to date. Majority of the items under "Les Grillades," "A La Braise," and "Sauces" were not available. We were told by the server that they used to make it in the past but not anymore. If not anymore, again, why the menu is not up to date? Why wasting customer's time? There is a picture of a full grilled chicken with coleslaw on Google. When asked for it, we were told it is a "Pepper Chicken" that is only available during the day time and we also have to order in advance. We didn't see this item on the menu and not sure how customers will know about this item and when to order. Pure carelessness from the owner! For the food, we ordered "Meat Pie," "Benachin," and "Afra/Dibi" chicken. Meat pie was good but little expensive in my opinion. Afra/Dibi chicken was good as well and also came up with a decent portion. What I didn't like about it is that it only came with a bunch of onions and nothing else. No sides at all which I thought was little bizarre specially for the price they are charging. I did not like Benachin! Small portion, expensive, and tasted just okay. It was just a boiled meat with some rice and vegetable curry. Vegetable curry was good but rest of the dish was just okay. I don't recommend this dish. Their customer service was iffy. We were not checked upon in a timely manner. There was a short hair African American lady and her customer service was good. There was another African American lady and she definitely needs training on her customer service and attitude. She would barely come to the table and hardly answer any questions or try to help. Rest of the time I saw her behind the counter spending time on her phone! This restaurant only has bottled water and they charge for it. I may or may not come back to this restaurant in the future.

The vibe was nice. You must make a reservation! This is what I enjoyed: Side of Lamb chops: 10/10 tender, meaty, nice smoky and sweet flavor, well seasoned. Side of Mac and cheese: 6/10 a bit dry, needs a bit more seasoning, if both of these things were not an issue it would be perfect. Oxtails and jollof rice: 10/10 oxtails were full of flavor and enjoyable. They could have been a bit more tender. Overall the flavor carried it to a perfect 10. The rice is seasoned and a bit smokey and cooked to the perfect doneness. Table bread: 9/10 puff puff style bread. They were fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Brought out first and provided with every meal. It had a sweet seasoning mix on it. The mix to me was more for after dinner instead of right before the meal. Dusse mimosa: 10/10 nice and stout. I prefer Dusse over Hennessy which is what was on the menu. Jerk chicken: 10/10 flavorful wings. Jerk seasoning was there and not too spicy. Cooked just right and not dry. Collard greens: 6/10 savory flavor. I am a collard greens specialist and I prefer a sweet and hot profile. Although these are just savory they were cooked to the correct tenderness. Candied yams: 10/10 get blend of cinnamon and sweet flavor. Cooked perfectly.

For an appetizer, I started with the oxtail spring roll. I will say it leaned more toward a pot roast flavor because of all the cabbage and carrots inside. It didn't quite taste like oxtail or have much of the Jamaican flavor I was expecting, aside from the little bit of gravy served with it. For our meals, my friend ordered the Poundo Fufu with Egusi Soup and Beef, and I got the Jollof Rice with Stew Beef. The jollof rice was definitely some of the best I've had, really flavorful and the meat was tender and well done. The owner, Will, was very friendly and gave us some great recommendations for other dishes to try next time. If I'm ever back in Dallas, I would definitely stop by again.

We also got the jollof rice and it was amazing. Also plantains were cooked perfectly caramelized deliciously. I got the goat meat side and there was only bones no meat so that seemed like a very bad deal to spend $34 for rice and two water bottles. Even if the rice was very delicious. I would definitely give Egusi soup again and the rice again, but I wouldn't get any of the meats. The people there were very sweet, but the air-conditioning was out so it was very hot in the dining room.

Everything was about 100 bucks, for 3 entrees and one meat pie. (kinda expensive, if you ask me). for myself, i had the fufu and egusi dish, and it was my first time ever trying Nigerian food. I really wanted to try it since i saw multiple videos online with people trying it and it look so interesting and delicious. honestly, it was quite an experience. You take a small piece of the fufu and shape it into a ball and dip it into the egusi soup. trust me, your hands will get very dirty after eating it. The reason i'm giving this place a 3 stars is that the portions were on the smaller side and the meat that came in the egusi soup was really tough to chew through. Flavor was good, but it was a bit on the spicy side...Also, the meat pie was kinda dry and lacking flavor. i still want to find a legit restaurant that serves fufu and egusi, but i don't know if i'll come back. Only reason i picked this place is that its the closest one to my office in coppell.
