    Eru with Beef and fufu
    Sarah F.

Finding Eru around town is hard, so naturally I come get my fix at African Village! But all in all, I always have a pleasant but quick exchange with the staff, music is always blasting on the speakers, there is always a random group of guys having one type of meeting or another, the food is always spicy and I always leave full and happy! You can't beat it! They did SURGE their pricing with no notice. But the flavors are so bomb that I'll just pop in from time to time.

I've never had African food before and this was not what I was expecting. Very inviting flavors that are still rich and delicious. The stew tasted like a consomé and the goat fell of the bone. Very similar to a birria flavor with a little bit of a twist. Definitely would have this again.

my mom my sisters and I came here on a whim and we're so happy with our experience. The food did not disappoint we are from Florida and have yet to find a place like this at home.

Location: This restaurant is nestled into the little shopping strip next to "Texas Thrift" in Irving. Their sign does not light up, so it may be hard to see in the evening. They had their "Open" neon sign off, and it was hard to see if they were open through the windows from the parking lot due to all their signage posted along their windows. Don't let this hinder you from giving them a try! Try the door anyway! Atmosphere: Ad soon as we walked in, we were greeted by very loud music. If you do not enjoy loud music, this could be overwhelming for you, but I enjoyed the fun atmosphere it created for me! The music was very upbeat, had a great bass to it, and was rich with Congolese influence. I think it added to my dining experience tremendously (in a very good way!) Service: We came on a Friday night at 6pm, in a party of 6 (4 adults, 2 babies). There was 1 waitress and 1 cook. The waitress ran the register, sat guests, took orders, ran food, helped cook food in the kitchen, and cleaned tables!! She is a SUPERSTAR! We learned later that the restaurant is owned by her grandmother. Her family should be very proud of her, for she did a fabulous job with a GREAT attitude, and was so kind and sweet to everybody. Food quality: This was my first time experiencing African food, and let me just say that I couldn't have had a better first experience! I wanted to try Fufu so badly, and it did not have any flavor when I ate it by itself but once used as a vessel to dip into my cassava leaves dish, it yielded a very fatty yam-like flavor that elevated the rest of my food nicely. Their Jollof rice was good, but I feel like it was not the star of the show. Their greens served with their tilapia tasted delicious! Their grilled tilapia and their salt fish dishes were difficult for me to eat, but enjoyable flavors. Their chicken is an absolute slam dunk! A MUST-TRY!! Their chicken and their cassava leaves dish with ugali fufu were my favorite. If you don't know what to order, try those!! Price: With the rising cost of meat, I understood why their prices were so high. The quality of their dishes as well as the phenomenal portions were SO worth it!!! Service was also 5-stars, so with tip and the fried tilapia, Jollof rice, greens, smoked chicken, cassava leaves, ugali fufu, salt fish, and a sofa, it brought me up to about $88. I ordered a lot of food and I feel like although it was more expensive than I would typically spend on dinner, I was happy to pay that amount with all things considered. If you have not had African food, Congolese food, I urge you to come give this place a try. Hands down one of my favorite new foods I've tried. I can't wait to come back and order something different next time!

    Okroh stew and banku

Was super excited to try this place because food is more Ghanaian-leaning. Drove from mckinney to Irving to be disappointed. Pros: Jollof was decent. Tilapia was great! Okroh stew was great but meat portion was lil bit off( a lot of skin, not a lot of meat)! We had this spinach side that was bomb!!So the problem wasn't the food so much Cons: service is super super poor which is sad given how good the food is. Water is not free. They don't tell you it will be charged to you which I have never seen before in my life. Also we ordered 2 items we never got, went to the kitchen window after 20 mins of not getting it with our other food to ask for it, and they brought only one of the two dishes out and said nothing and did nothing about the other dish. I think our server legit left in the middle of our meal. Like we saw her leave. I know places are understaffed by man I have never seen service as bad as this. Other African places may not always have the best service but nowhere as messy as this. I'll probably try coming again in the future and hope things can improve bc the food is decent and they have dishes other places don't. Hope things get better

I have been coming here for a few months, last time i came was in July for my typically eugsi soup. To my surprise the price has skyrocketed from $14 to $24. At least update your prices online for awareness or increase the portions.

The food was amazing the nice piano in the back really ties the environment together, the service is the best I've ever had. Definitely would recommend!!!!

Maybe I'm mistaken but I purchased 1 egusi soup with fufu and 1 goat pepper soup with fufu and my bill was $47.99. Totally overpriced when I called the restaurant back and talked to waitress she told me the owner did not update her prices on the menu. Really! I won't be returning as it was overpriced and not worth the money!

Such delicious food! The jollof rice, fufu, and egusi soup are definitely my favorites. You can't go wrong with the beignets either! The wait for the food is the only thing that got me. I recommend calling ahead of time at least by 30 minutes. They are normally super busy from 2-5PM.

Grilled tilapia, greens and jollof rice. Plantain was my appetizer but I couldn't eat everything. Food was awesome. I'm so stuffed!

It directs to an article about this restaurant on D Magazine website. Not sure why the owner has not noticed and corrected that yet. If there is no website then Google should not show it at all. It is just confusing to customers. Second, their restaurant menu is not up to date. Majority of the items under "Les Grillades," "A La Braise," and "Sauces" were not available. We were told by the server that they used to make it in the past but not anymore. If not anymore, again, why the menu is not up to date? Why wasting customer's time? There is a picture of a full grilled chicken with coleslaw on Google. When asked for it, we were told it is a "Pepper Chicken" that is only available during the day time and we also have to order in advance. We didn't see this item on the menu and not sure how customers will know about this item and when to order. Pure carelessness from the owner! For the food, we ordered "Meat Pie," "Benachin," and "Afra/Dibi" chicken. Meat pie was good but little expensive in my opinion. Afra/Dibi chicken was good as well and also came up with a decent portion. What I didn't like about it is that it only came with a bunch of onions and nothing else. No sides at all which I thought was little bizarre specially for the price they are charging. I did not like Benachin! Small portion, expensive, and tasted just okay. It was just a boiled meat with some rice and vegetable curry. Vegetable curry was good but rest of the dish was just okay. I don't recommend this dish. Their customer service was iffy. We were not checked upon in a timely manner. There was a short hair African American lady and her customer service was good. There was another African American lady and she definitely needs training on her customer service and attitude. She would barely come to the table and hardly answer any questions or try to help. Rest of the time I saw her behind the counter spending time on her phone! This restaurant only has bottled water and they charge for it. I may or may not come back to this restaurant in the future.

The vibe was nice. You must make a reservation! This is what I enjoyed: Side of Lamb chops: 10/10 tender, meaty, nice smoky and sweet flavor, well seasoned. Side of Mac and cheese: 6/10 a bit dry, needs a bit more seasoning, if both of these things were not an issue it would be perfect. Oxtails and jollof rice: 10/10 oxtails were full of flavor and enjoyable. They could have been a bit more tender. Overall the flavor carried it to a perfect 10. The rice is seasoned and a bit smokey and cooked to the perfect doneness. Table bread: 9/10 puff puff style bread. They were fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Collard greens: 6/10 savory flavor. I am a collard greens specialist and I prefer a sweet and hot profile. Although these are just savory they were cooked to the correct tenderness. For our meals, my friend ordered the Poundo Fufu with Egusi Soup and Beef, and I got the Jollof Rice with Stew Beef. The jollof rice was definitely some of the best I've had, really flavorful and the meat was tender and well done.
