I'm from California and I visited my friend in Buda, Texas. She wanted to take me to Shugabees and I wanted to go to another famous BBQ place. So she suggested I try both. After trying both, Shugabees has the best BBQ. The sauce is fabulous. The tortillas are fantastic! The brisket is smack-a-liscious. The pork is really good too. I ended up bringing about 10 burritos back to California for my family. They should be featured on the Food Network. I will definitely go back to Shugabees the next time I'm in the area. read more

The whole time I was driving to this place I was wondering if this was a good idea. It was dark and the road I was on was right out of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Once I found the tiny restaurant I was still concerned, but I placed an order for 1/4 chicken, 1/2 brisket, potato salad and banana pudding and waited. There were picnic tables, but I had cold beers back at my hotel. Total price was about $24. The bag smelled great! Back at the hotel, the meat wraps were absolutely delicious and the potato salad was good. I loved the banana pudding. Story had a happy ending. It is worth the drive, so give it a try. Brisket was tender and flavorful- can get it sliced lean, marble or mixed. Pork was also very good, very tender. BBQ sauce was good. Get the spicy orange honey for the pork on the side- it's great for dipping the homemade tortillas in. Oh, yeah- gigantic homemade tortillas wrap everything in a blanket of yumminess. Jalapeño mustard potato salad was a bit too spicy for me, but my husband loved it. Regular potato salad was really good. After the Brisket, the star is the Banana pudding. It's probably the best banana pudding I've ever had. Nilla wafers on the bottom were just soft enough, the one on top just crunchy enough. The pudding was light and creamy, with homemade whipped cream on top. So, so good. Definitely will be stopping here again to eat some great BBQ outside. read more

Very dissapointed with service. Ordered bbq call in service and went to pick up and purchase and was overcharged. Asked why I was being charged more than the price listed on their pricing menu and was told they just didnt change it yet. Will not be back. read more

The portions are big which helps because the brisket and the sausage are ok. If you're around and very hungry stop in it will fill you up. If you are use to real good Bbq this may not be your cup of tea. read more

Love these guys!!! Love the food too!!! So delicious and moist! Not a huge selection - but it's all good. I promise. You wont be disappointed. They make their own tortillas and their own banana pudding - which is an absolutely MUST HAVE! One tip - go early or during lunch. They dont feed you left overs - so they run out. Honestly, I think this place has some of the best quality BBQ around. I may even like them more than some of the Lockhart establishments. A bit disappointed that they don't have pork ribs, and not the biggest fan of their sides, but they're still pretty damn good. Their Mustard sauce is on point also. read more

Rewind two years ago and it was 4-5 stars every time... but they have gone way downhill since theY moved into bucks. We have given them three shots since they moved inside and each was same experience. The brisket had NO FLAVOR, and what used to juicy and flavorful is bland and rubbery. We always order marbled brisket, but got lean cuts each time... took it back and they gave us another cut of lean. They charge $5 for basket of fries that is smallest portion of fries I've seen, and fries were undercooked on top of it. Love Bucks, just got to make sure you eat before you go. read more

Shugabees has the best smoked pulled pork taco with a yummy mustard base sauce. You have to try it the meat is very moist and not overly smothered and the home made tortilla is the bomb. Their lean brisket Taco's are fantastic I give it 5 stars and a nice cold Dr Pepper to go with it. Thank you Shugabees for making such awesome food. I will be back soon with my family. read more

I like it. If I could have it my way, I'd order brisket and some delicious jalapeño potato salad from Shugabees, and turkey and beans from Milt's and have me a feast at home. I didn't really care for the pork or most of their sauces either. The tortillas were good, but not ohmygodmymindisabouttoexplode good. The smoked chicken salad is unique with their black olives and pecans. There are now two better places to go instead of Dickeys BBQ, and Shugabees is one of them. read more

Why does everyone think these tortillas are homemade???? HAVE you EVER had homemade tortillas? THESE ARE NOT HOMEMADE....so stop saying they are....I saw the plastic bags of them piled in the corner. I do not know why some people on here think this place is so good. It is not all that great. The sausage they use in the sausage wraps is the same sausage you can by at HEB...which they probably do. They claim homemade ingredients, but the most important part of each of their food items (the tortilla) is obviously a low grade store bought item which they do not even bother toasting like many restaurants, which leaves it doughy...They run out of everything by 2pm, and act like they have the hottest business in central Texas when really most people are really thinking how they could be so ignorant each day to let it happen all the time???? Why? My guess is to push the other crap items on the menu. It does not make you look popular, just extremely apathetic to your customers and your business as a whole. I like this place to a Bill Miller's BBQ on wheels.....so if you like this sloppy, absent minded approach to BBQ, feel free to give it a try. read more

Everything here is top notch. I realized that I don't have to drive 45 minutes to Lockhart or spend an hour in line at Franklin's to get great BBQ. I just need to drive 5 mins to Shugabees for some of the best around. The brisket is top notch but my favorite is the smoked chicken salad! I was really looking forward to my first time here with seeing all the positive reviews & recommendations. We may have visited on an off day but I have never been more disappointed. We traveled 2 hours to visit this place. When we first got there, we were surprised by how many cars there were which was a good sign. We got into line & realized we had moved 2 spaces in the last 20 minutes. We stuck it out & eventually got to the front after 35 minutes. While in line we overheard that they were out of the Mac & cheese & would have to wait seeing as there were 7 orders before ours so we just decided to not get it. From the time we ordered to the time we actually received our food was an hour & 12 minutes... We were a little irritated but understood because there were only 2 workers. One making the entrees & the other taking orders & assembling the orders onto the tray. During our hour & 12 minutes wait we would glance into the kitchen & noticed the woman who was taking orders & assembling trays would touch her hair, face, money/credit cards & then go back to preparing the food without washing her hands. We were put off but so hungry & just wanted to try the food. When we finally received our food, it was dry & flavorless. The sausage was just wrapped in a plain tortilla which the menu said but it was not worth the charge nor was the chopped brisket sandwich that was just enclosed into 2 plain white bread. We also overheard that they yet again ran out of Mac & cheese while the previous orders were being filled for them so the ones who had been waiting longer than we have did not get their Mac & cheese AGAIN. We were not the only ones who were quite irritated with the wait as many were voicing "this place is really cool but the food is so slow to come out". We ended up not finishing our food & left the establishment highly disappointed. read more

Absolutely delicious!! I had the Chipotle mustard pulled pork and the jalapeño potato salad. The pork was so moist and flavorful and the Chipotle mustard sauce was a unique twist! I'm not a potato salad eater but loved their jalapeño potato salad. Also love how friendly and welcoming the service is. Who can say no to free samples to make sure you pick the right meat?
