This place has been on my IG Food feed for a while now, and I had to check it out with a friend of mine. I booked a reservation and went to the place for our first stop of the night. To be honest, I don't really like the layout of the venue. It seems more like a cafeteria than a restaurant. The full cement feeling of the tables are really not a thing for me. I think I talked about this before, the whole "see piping roofs, industrial style, cement heavy medium" was never a thing for me. This is just my 2 cents. Anyways, onto the drinks & food though. The drink of the night I ordered was the KimChi Ceasar. I loved how tangy it tasted, more towards the KimChi flavour. That perfect Fermentation Flavour.... Anyways, I never knew oysters could taste like this at all. I mean sure, cooked oysters and everything etc, but eating raw oysters in various Asian inspired flavours were pretty epic! Me and my friends ordered the "Long Cruise" the full 8 oyster package. We had the following oysters: Feed your Seoul, Hot Pot, Animezing, See-Vee Che, Bahn Mi, Key Lime, Apple Fennel and the featured oyster of the day the XLB inspired one. The noteable ones that I loved were the Animezing, Bahn Mi, Apple Fennel and the Feed your Seoul. The others were interesting is what I would say. Really though should have came during Happy Hour, but we have work until 5:00pm too bad. On top of that, we ordered the Clam Chowder. That was so good. I am surprised, because my friend makes the BEST clam chowder, and I was surprised this was AMAZING. It really could be the dill they added into it, but freaking shit. That was good. Regardless, might come back depending on my mood, but yeah we will see :)

A trendy, bright and modern oyster bar in the heart of Chinatown, specializing in topped oysters and various types of naked oysters. Shuckshuck is the only restaurant in Vancouver that specifically serves oysters topped with various ingredients to enhance your happy hour/seafood experience. From savory toppings that make your oysters have an Asian taste such as their Banh Mi and Peking Duck, to sweet toppings that'll make you feel like you're having dessert rather than a raw oyster like the Key Lime Pie topping, Shuckshuck has it all! They even have a rotating list of raw oysters from the West and East Coast that you can order if you aren't feeling a loaded oyster or just wanted a more traditional raw oyster. I was definitely impressed with the variety of innovative creations they had on their menu, and I was even more surprised when the topped oysters tasted exactly as listed. The Key Lime Pie oyster caught my attention the most, and it tasted identical to a regular Key Lime Pie. The same went for the Banh Mi and Hot Pot oysters that I tried. I also really enjoyed trying the various types of oysters they offered when I went. There were 6 varieties, some of which I've never heard of, but now it's all thanks to Shuckshuck that I know a little more about oysters and which kinds are my favorite. The staff was very knowledgeable of not only their menu, but also the different types of oysters itself, which I thought was nice because they knew exactly what to recommend for a first timer like me. The space was very spacious and vibey itself due to the neon signs and dim lighting. I would definitely come back to check out their oyster shots next!

Such an innovative way to eat fresh raw oysters these days! We ordered the Peking Duck + Se-Vee-Ché + Feature Oyster w/ dill and masago + Cali Love + PB&J. Yesss!!! All the names above are oyster topping names!!! We never would have imagined putting topping from Peking duck, peanuts, jam, shrimp, and more on top of the oysters! This definitely breaks the tradition and was fun to eat and explore how the flavours work together with the raw oyster, but the oyster flavour definitely gets hidden so I would say this place is more for those who like to try something new or for those who are afraid of oysters and needs more flavouring to cover up the taste. My favourite was the Se-Vee-Ché with the citrusy flavour and shrimp! How can you say no to seafood on seafood?!

I saw this place on Instagram and decided to go there one day I was craving for oysters... Definitely got oysters but like I've never seen before. I'm open to trying different types of food but I realized after this experience that I'd rather taste the flavor of the oysters than the sauces that cover it up. Walk in, order at counter and pay, find a seat. Strange s shaped counter top tables. 8 Oysters for $28 Clam chowder was good but would've liked some more food options. It was basically just oysters. Got some chips but I love fries with oysters. (Hot/cold contrast)

PB&J! They were so good I ate them up before remembering to snap a photo!

Once my order was completed I found a seat and started to eat. The seating area is limited and if various options, a couple tables here and there and a counter by the window. The fish was crispy and nicely battered and chips were decent. Fish size was again decent i wouldn't say the largest nor small but regular in size to decent fish and chip places. Overall nice, I think strong decent fish and chip place but imo overhyped. It's not bad but nothing mind

I ordered an Oyster Po Boy, fries and a drink which came to total of $27.10. It was messy to eat Po Boy, but that wasn't an issue. Baguette was so crunchy on the outside it was perfect! There was some arugula, kimchi and 3 pcs of oysters in it. I also ordered fries it was huge! Fries were bit salty and overcooked I tossed it out in the end. I left my water and soda to drink them later after heading to washroom. Staff cleared my water and soda away. I still had half of soda in it. I felt thirsty after eating my food in the end. It'd have been nice if she asked me first before clearing dishes. I don't think I'll go back.

We were STUFFED, for the price you're paying the portions are very fair and quality you can't beat! I've had seafood in the Bay Area, Boston, and even across countries in Asia, but I was SO impressed by Blue Water Cafe. It is a MUST if you're in Vancouver. Everything was honestly a 5/5, the only dish I would pass on is the Yellowtail, I just wasn't a fan of how much it was wavering between raw and cooked fish, along with the char. It's just not for me, but my parents enjoyed it. Nevertheless, some of the highlights was the sablefish, oh my gosh melt in your mouth. Sablefish is Vancouver locally caught, so very fresh and it has a sweet undertone with the soy and sake marinade. This was my favorite along with the Seafood Tasting for Two, which features scallop ceviche, Dungeness crab salad, albacore tuna tartare, and smoked sockeye salmon terrine. You get a diversity of fishes and flavors, which is most certainly worth the price point. It's the gems of the appetizers put into 1 order. Halibut was also noted to be locally caught, the slices were thin and a perfect app. Hamachi Kama is yellowtail collar, which has a rich, succulent meat. It tasted buttery and was also melt in the mouth. The Dutch Mule was a ginger ale with sorbet. Absolutely delicious mocktail, I held back on ordering a second. The service was also amazing!!! Our waitress welcomed us warmly to Vancouver and even gave us a complimentary dessert to welcome us to the area, even giving us tips where to go near the area and what sights to see in Vancouver.

From the gold railings to coat check to a piano on the stairs to an old school oyster bar showcasing their wares proudly on display, Joe Fortes has a lot going on for it. But perhaps more so than anything else is an amazing happy hour for anyone who loves oysters. Service Before diving into the food let's talk about service. The servers here are dressed in the old full whites with black ties and give you full service. They have an expert knowledge of the menu and are willing to give you any and all opinions if asked. They check on you frequently and make sure you're having a good time with enough banter to make it friendly and welcomed. Happy Hour - Alcohol With that out of the way, we can talk about the happy hour. Yes, they have a great deal when it comes to their house red and white wines where you can get 6 oz for $6 CAD or 9 oz for $9 CAD. Their beers range from $5 CAD to $8 CAD and their cocktails are all under $10 CAD. Happy Hour - Food They have some incredible truffle fries, cut thick and sprinkled with parmesan as delicate as snow for $9 CAD. Their crab & corn fritters are slightly chewy but packed with flavor and come at $12 CAD. The coconut prawns sound just as delicious as they taste and come at $13 CAD. I would avoid the Steelhead ceviche though as it was more mashed avocado than ceviche. However, HOWEVER, the star of the show are their oysters. Coming at $1.75 an oyster, you get to be as gluttonous as you'd like whilst keeping your pockets happy. Vancouver is known for their amazing seafood and with this happy hour from 3 PM - 5 PM it gives you 2 hours to fill your belly with as many oysters as you can. Even if you ordered 50 oysters you would be under $90 CAD. I should know, I did that. Last Thoughts Even without the incredible happy hour Joe Fortes would be a restaurant you have to visit during your trip to Vancouver. With a great selection of food on their menu, wait staff that feel old world and professional, and a setting fit for the city, the happy hour is just the bonus that makes visiting Joe Fortes even more enticing. Come with an appetite, leave with a smile.

Steep as it is, I decided I wanted a "quick little sushi lunch with a view", and a quick little sushi lunch with a few is exactly what I received. Although I don't recommend it, I walked right in from the street, no reservation, and was seated at the bar (in pretty casual street clothes I may add). I enjoyed a premium sake flight (which was fine...just fine), an old fashioned served with the perfect accompanying dark chocolate, and a good amount of sushi including their signature aburi style sushi in flight form and nigiri tuna flight (bluefin, chutoro, otoro). After visiting Japan last December, I'm a bit of an otoro snob but I have to hand it to them, all three of these cuts were perfect. The accompanying rice, perfection. The quality of the fish, divine. The view was the cherry on top of this experience. This will certainly be a spot I revisit next time I'm in Vancouver.

Michelin starred quality in their service by how they explained the menu, brought out the food, came back around to refill waters. Just top notch service and elegantly so. The food was good but not of value. Their lunch set was a good introductory to what they offer. I enjoyed the food for its flavours and presentation but I thought that it was a bit overpriced. Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful, fresh and definitely elevated, but it was $50 for 10pcs of sushi, 2 appetizer sized samples of their appetizer or entree dishes, and miso soup (which we did not get and didn't realize till much later in the day). If you're wanting an upscale experience (and portion) of good quality food or wanting to impress other parties, then this is a nice spot. For regular eats, it's a bit too luxurious to be a casual thing in my opinion. The ambiance is nice and calm. They have a patio, which has a meh view overlooking the harbor, but beware of a breezy day. It will catch a bit of a wind tunnel. They have heaters and blankets but the heaters don't really reach unless you're sitting next to it.
