I did get a grizzly piece of meat on my first bite but aside from that the taco was enormous and perfect. I loved the melted cheese on the tortillas too. To be honest, the one taco would've been enough food for me and I can eat a lot. I put just a little bit of their red salsa on it which went perfectly. I wish I had stopped there, but not knowing the tacos would be that big, I had ordered a Ranchero shrimp taco also. I like Ranchero sauce and it sounded good. It was disgusting. The shrimp itself was fine, which is what I ate off the taco. I started eating it with a fork because the thing was too damn big to try to pick it up and eat it. Underneath the shrimp I have never seen so much minced garlic in my life. I tried to scoop it out, and I scooped out several tablespoons of it but it was ingrained all throughout the taco. There wasn't any discernible Ranchero sauce on it either, just a lot of diced up tomatoes, onions, and a splotch of some kind of cream sauce. I basically ate the shrimp off the top and threw the rest away. I had a terrible sour garlic taste in my mouth all day. I would go back again, but I would definitely not ever order that nasty taco. Maybe it was a fluke and it's not supposed to be made like that, but I don't feel the need to find out.

In the past, I've had some really great meals and experiences there, which is why this review is difficult to write. Unfortunately, during my most recent visit to the Clairemont Mesa location, the food quality was noticeably different from what I remembered. Several items tasted stale, cold, and as though they had been reheated. The beans were mushy and lacked flavor, and the plantains seemed old and not freshly prepared. Overall, the meal felt below the standard I had experienced there before. I'm sharing this not to criticize harshly, but because I genuinely remember this restaurant being much better and I hope they can return to the quality and freshness that made the place special in the past. I truly want to see them succeed and improve because there is a lot of potential there.

NEIGHBORHOOD HANGOUT (4.5 stars)…read more This place is such a neighborhood hangout! FOOD: yum SERVICE: great PRICE: fair AMBIANCE: chill but parking sucks I wouldn't think a corner bar on top of Bay Hill would be vibe but it seems so with the neighborhood folks. Area is great. Parking is minimal, park on the street or across in the shopping parking lot. They have Taco Tuesdays. They have trivia nights on Wednesdays. It's family and dog friendly. And on any day it's always packed with people. Taverns usually have amazing bar food. They have amazing bar food but also different! Brunch, sandwiches, burgers, pizza, tacos, plate dishes, etc etc! WORKING CLASS CAULIFLOWER ($14) - Crispy cauliflower tossed in sweet & spicy sauce, sesame seeds & green onions, side of white rice. This was a feature and a popular dish here so I had to try it. I loved how I could keep eating this without feeling sluggish after a big meal. The cauliflower were chopped in bite size pieces, fried with a batter, and glazed with a flavor similar to a mix of sweet and sour + orange chicken but not. Kind of also reminded me of Gobi Manchurian but again not. Overall, it was a delicious meal and something I'd def order again. HIGHLY RECOMMEND There's so much more on the menu to tackle and I can't wait to put this in the rotations. Until the next bite...

Shannon in particular went above and beyond for our table - constantly checking in without hovering, making spot‑on recommendations, and bringing this amazing upbeat energy that made the brunch feel special. She anticipated what we needed before we even had to ask and genuinely seemed happy to be there, which is rare and really appreciated. The food and drinks were excellent, with a solid selection of beers and cocktails and a menu that hits all the comfort‑food favorites while still feeling a step above typical bar food. It's the kind of place that works just as well for a casual hang with friends as it does for a low‑key date night. I'll definitely be back soon and will be asking for Shannon again!
