Grilled cheese meatball sandwich and tots.
    Dana R.

This was the second year we used Born in Brooklyn food truck for our end of the year senior sunset dinner. They have been very accommodating and provided awesome options for our students and staff. This year's choices were a grilled chicken sandwich, grilled cheese meatball sandwich, veggie burger, or Captain America burger. All came with fries or tots and a canned soda. The line went quickly and the guys working were fun and interacted with us. We had about 80 people and everyone loved it. I had the grilled cheese meatball sandwich and couldn't finish it because it was huge. It was so good! And the tots were perfect. I know we plan on using them again next year if they're available. Hope they are!

They're a great food truck to work with. Food comes out hot and quick. Service and ambiance are top notch!

Great food truck with friendly staff! I ordered the "Buffalo Chicken Tots" and they were excellent. A generous, heaping serving of tots perfectly fried to a crispness that I adore. Topped with cut up pieces of fried chicken meat, a zesty Buffalo sauce and blue cheese dressing drizz, then blue cheese crumbles. I loved all the funky flavors going on and would definitely order this again.

Dirty bird- Crunchy, gooey, hot. Perfect! Pairs well with the pesto tots!

The guys at Born in Brooklyn stopped by our complex serving up yummy grilled cheese sandwiches, heroes, and deliciously crisp tots. The Dirty Bird is a what an adult grilled cheese should be. Think of a grilled cheese chicken parm, and you've got a Dirty Bird. Crisp, crunchy grilled sourdough, ooey-gooey cheese, juicy fried chicken, tomato sauce. Pair this bad boy with the pesto tots and you've got an easy, mobile, hand-held Italian dinner. Pesto tots were extra crunchy, served as a heaping mound, topped with pesto and Parmesan. Would def try their meatball subs and loaded fries next time!

Went with my family to Coronado Island Marriott on a Thursday. They host a food truck event every week. I ordered the meatball grilled cheese. The meat was flavorful & the bread was toasted perfectly. Very nice guys that run the truck. Can't wait to catch them out and about again.

Ordered their buffalo chicken fries. Larger portion and a good balance of spicy from the buffalo sauce and cooling from the blue cheese. My order came out quick and freshly made.

Recently for employee appreciation, my work had the Born in Brooklyn food truck roll in to treat us to some great eats for lunch. They were here for a set amount of time. Because it was pre planned and paid for, we had a limited menu to choose from, but they were great choices. I didn't eat anything while at work, but I did take home two burgers for later. I figured Becky might've wanted one for dinner that night. She didn't, so I had one Saturday night and the other one on Sunday. They both reheated very nicely in the air fryer. I put the burger on the top rack for 4 minutes, then moved it to the bottom rack for 2 more while the bun and fries took over the top rack. Boy Blue: A fat burger infused with bacon and bleu cheese crumbles then smothered with more bleu cheese served on a pretzel bun. Reheated this was a really good burger. I can only imagine how great it would be fresh off of the flat top. The pretzel bun was fantastic. I added lettuce and pickles. Yum! Captain America: Also a fat burger. This one infused with bacon and cheddar cheese then smothered in even more cheddar and also served on a pretzel bun. I reheated this one in the same fashion and it was delicious. The fries were really good. Thin cut, fresh, crispy on the outside soft in the center. They reheated very nicely in the air fryer also. I really don't know if I liked one better than the other. They were both equally delicious in their own unique ways. Just depends on what kind of cheese mood that you're in. In addition to the Boy Blue and Captain America we could choose the Yo Philly or the Dirty Bird. Also tots rather than fries if we so desired. I've attached a picture of the menu so you can see their descriptions. Coworkers who had the Yo Philly and Dirty Bird raved about them as did those who had the burgers. A lot of satisfied tot choosers as well. Well done Born in Brooklyn.

Okay this food truck came to my neighborhood. I missed it last month. The two guys are really nice and the food was definitely fast and good. Okay, okay I forgot the pics again my son and I woofed it down do fast. I just realized I didn't eat the Fried Oreos.Yummy. We had the Nyc and (burger w/Mac and cheese) on a pretzel bun. Good. I had beef grilled cheese. Very tender and the bread was soaked with butter I think. So rich. The fries were nice and crispy just the way I love them. The order taker can call me Babygirl anytime

Forget about it!!! Don't even worry about hiring another food truck. Born in Brooklyn was by far the best tasting and friendliest group to work with. We made a delicious menu with Scott ,the owner. Half sandwiches (Dirty Bird,Grilled Mac and Cheese, Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich, Grilled Cheese Sandwich) with exotic tater totes and a scrumptious fried Oreos were all so tasty. We hired them for a small party, and our guests were stuffed and had so many compliments. The best compliment I heard was from a Sicilian friend who said that this was the most authentic red sauce he had ever had. Reminded him of home in Brooklyn where he grew up. We loved everything that came out of the little window and appreciated all the hard work that went into making such great meals for our friends and family. Thank you, Born in Brooklyn, we made wonderful memories with delicious food this weekend. Our favorites were the Grilled Mac and cheese and Meatball sandwiches with the Pesto Parmesan tater tots plus 4 fried Oreos I ate alone lol (Bride) Thank you so very much!!!

Decent tasting sandwiches (aside from being slightly burnt) but found a freaking HAIR on my food! The cooks inside aren't wearing any hairnets and so I think that might be the problem. Also, there's a $0.50 extra charge if you're paying with card.

I was also surprised at how good the Dutch crunch I chose tasted (it had a slight chew but was also fluffy at the same time). It definitely wasn't the cheapest sandwich (after tax it was around 19 bucks) but based on the ingredients and amount of meat I'd say it's fair value!

I heard they're going to start serving beer and wine soon as well! *Best 1st-timer options*: The Keeper (if you like it spicy) or the L.G.B.T. My favorite hot sandwiches are the Cali Cubano, B3, and The Keeper, while my favorite cold sandwiches are the Avocado Highway, L.G.B.T. (lettuce, gouda, bacon, tomato), and Caprese. My favorite salads are the Grapevine and Duck Cranberry. For sides I recommend the potato salad and tomato basil bisque. The aioli they use is to die for -- can't hurt to get a side of it with any sandwich! The restaurant is situated on the corner of Park Blvd. and Polk Ave. (more generally, it's on the strip of Park Blvd. between University Ave. and El Cajon Blvd.). There is usually a good amount of parking on Park Blvd. and Polk Ave., which is nice. The space has a simple-yet-tasteful modern design and interior, is always clean, with friendly and helpful staff. Great for lunch hour or a weekend date. Update: Came back today with my friend and we ordered the B3 and the Turkey & Cheddar Mousse sandwiches, plus sides of potato salad and cucumber salad, and a double chocolate cookie with pistachio and sea salt. Everything was really good, but the Turkey & Cheddar Mousse sandwich was the star of the show. The cookie was great too. We both agreed the potato salad could use some salt, but besides that it was a solid meal all around.

Big Front Door has quickly become a new favorite for sandwiches, and visiting two days in a row…read moremade that very clear. On the first visit, Zack provided exceptional care and attention while helping navigate food allergies. Zack took the time to carefully check ingredients, double-check preparations, and personally come back out to verify everything to ensure safety. That level of care made the experience feel genuinely welcoming and stress-free. The chicken sandwich was fresh, satisfying, and thoughtfully balanced. Juicy chicken, ripe tomatoes, creamy avocado, and a bright splash of oil and vinegar came together beautifully on Big Front Door's roll, which had a great texture and held everything together well. The flavors were clean and vibrant. A little extra salt would have pushed it over the top for a salt-lover, but that came down to personal preference rather than any shortcoming. A dining companion ordered the avocado sandwich and could not stop raving about it, praising both the flavor and the freshness. The outdoor seating area deserves special mention. The shaded space was perfect as I do have sun allergies, especially for anyone who prefers relief from direct sun. The care taken in food preparation added an extra layer of comfort and trust. The second visit somehow raised the bar even higher. Micah went above and beyond to accommodate physical ability needs with patience, attentiveness, and genuine kindness. That effort did not go unnoticed and made the experience feel deeply respectful and inclusive. The roasted chicken sandwich ordered on the second visit was phenomenal. The roasted chicken was tender, savory, and full of depth, elevating the sandwich even further. Adding a bit of extra salt brought all the ingredients into perfect harmony, making every bite more satisfying than the last. This sandwich has officially earned a spot as a new favorite sandwich. Big Front Door was amazing not just for delicious, thoughtfully prepared food, but for the people who work there. Zack and Micah created an environment where care, kindness, and respect were clearly prioritized. No moment felt rushed, dismissive, or uncomfortable. At no point did anyone make the experience feel like a burden or inconvenience. A sincere thank-you also goes to the team members who prepared the food. Even without knowing names, the care taken to keep guests safer while serving delicious nourishment was evident and deeply appreciated. Big Front Door comes highly recommended for the flavorful sandwiches, the shaded outdoor space, the welcoming atmosphere, outstanding customer service, and the genuine kindness shown at every action.

I came in and immediately the woman working in the front I could tell was rude and radiating negative energy. I am witnessing a common theme about this with many of the other people who have left negative reviews about this establishment. You guys also seem to reply and pretend like you resolve the issue but there have been multiple review follow-ups where people claim you guys do not actually make up for the horrible service. Anyway, I walk in and immediately I have to wait a long time to order and I can tell that the guy in front of me has been there a while already. Finally, I place my order and the lady is so awfully rude. Every answer I had for her questions made me feel that I had done something wrong even though I was very nice and just there for a simple thing: to get a sandwich. I usually greet people and ask how they are doing but she got directly to business. I understand that she was busy but she was immediately unwelcoming. "What kind of bread would you like?" (I do not see the bread on the menu when I immediately look up so I reply, "white (I will admit there are many different types of bread but I did not know what they have and usually when I order somewhere I just say white and they know what I am talking about or politely ask for clarification) *she rolls her eyes* "french, sourdough, Dutch?" Then, she asked me if I wanted lettuce and tomato. I replied, "just lettuce please" and again she makes me feel dumb for just ordering. I ask if the sandwich comes with mayonnaise because it was not listed but there were additional items on it and she says that they do not have mayonnaise but another sauce as if mayonnaise is a crazy request. "Can I get a name for the order?" "Jessica" "Jessica?" like my name is ugly or something and not like she could not hear me. At this point I am picking apart everything that she uttered but seriously such an unhappy woman with no hospitality skills. Trust me on this and either experience it yourself or read some other 1-star reviews if you do not believe me. She then walked away as I was still paying so I could not even ask for a receipt or anything. This was essentially the extent of my direct experience with the woman in the front but I witnessed more things happening to other customers while I was waiting for my sandwich for a really long time. Apparently an order kept getting rung up and people kept coming in trying to pick it up but it had already been picked up and the woman would say "communicate this. someone already picked it up" with a huge attitude like it was their fault there was a glitch in the system. I also took notice that there was a big order for 4:30 and when the order was finished, one of the male workers went over and served himself a drink from the soft drinks dispenser and when he was handing the woman all of the many bags, he took a break to take a drink out of his cup. I think it also important that I add she had already been given 5-6 bags and was caring a lot and he was not coughing and desperately needed water and I do not even think there was water in the cup. I will also say though that all of the customers waiting were very friendly and understanding that they were busy and I am too but there was no reason to be rude and lack the principles of basic costumer service. I work with people too and we all have bad days but by the looks of these other reviews, this is a very common occurrence. I am glad people are willing to speak up about this. Another thing I noticed was that apparently someone's order was not in the system and they made the person feel so bad for it and that it was their fault except with all of these problems, it is highly likely that this could have been the establishment's fault but they never even entertained this. I might also add that the woman that took my order when she was making sandwiches I saw her cough into her hands (no gloves mind you) and then grab the *at least it was* wrapped sandwich and put it in the bag. I wanted to try this place because it was close to my campus and I will say that the sandwich tasted good but it was nowhere near worth the horrible aura I experience while being at Ike's. I will surely never spend another dime at Ike's and encourage my friends to not support a business that does not prioritize cleanliness and kindness. Even when they packed up my order, the same man who was taking sip breaks handing a woman her order, was throwing my stuff together and gave me a tiny bag when he saw I was also holding my chips and drink. That was not very thoughtful if you ask me but I would not expect thoughtfulness after what I had already endured from this sandwich joint. I think Ike's would benefit from a personality change and should consider improving their warmth and helpful nature.
