So let me update my review... I came back to this truck and only got a lobster roll. Was really good. They did not skimp on the lobster. Price is a little cheaper than lobster rolls anywhere else. My friend got the American burger with chedder and he really enjoyed it as well read more

My company at a big party and they hired 3 food trucks to cater the event . They all looked good , but Two For The Road's captain crunch crusted crab cakes really grabbed my attention. Let me tell you I'm sooooo happy I went with them , because these are the best crab cakes I've ever eaten . They're perfectly seasoned and are made with fresh crab meat and the captain crunch crust wow !!!! I almost forgot to mention the siracha lime mayo they put on it . Omg !! How amazing is that sauce . A lot times these food trucks are over priced and not worth the splurge. I think this truck is bomb . The burgers and chicken sandwiches looked pretty good . But basic . Go with the crab cakes . They are incredible and something you don't get to have often . read more

I have no idea why this food truck is so popular. I ordered the classic chicken sandwich tonight. It was overcooked, dry and did not even come with what was supposed to be on it. Not to mention I waited for over an hour to even get it. Would not recommend. read more

I'm almost sad they're not an established restaurant because now I have to find them! I got the duet ($12.50), which was perf for me but might not be enough food for others. 1/2 Lobster roll: Buttery toast with not too much mayonnaise and overflowing with lobster chunks. Captain crunch crab cake: Crispy, with plenty of crab lumps, and a slightly spicy sauce on top. Didn't taste the captain crunch but it works! Spinach artichoke grilled cheese: SO CHEESY and delicious! If you like spinach artichoke and grilled cheese, you'll love this. Salmon burger: Obviously not truck made and probably a froze salmon patty from costco. Sorry for being blunt but spend your money on other things. (-1 star) read more

We recently have this awesome truck stop by at our work Scripps Health and I don't wanna pack lunch anymore coz everything they have seems infinitely more tempting! I tried the Cap n crunch crab cakes....It was deliciously crunchy on the outside and packed with perfectly seasoned flaky moist crab on the inside. The sriracha lime mayo dressing drizzled on the cakes added a subtle punch to the texture of the crab cakes- pure genius!! I can't wait to try some of their other specials- especially the spinach artichoke grilled cheese. read more

My work cubemate just gave me half his tasty crispy fries($2 he said?) so I didn't actually pay for anything, but... Two For The Road either: A) Buys a ton of fries from McDonalds, loads em on to the truck, and simply resells them, or... B) Someone used to work for McDonalds and stole the recipe(Coming to America?), or... C) Someone was able to masterfully recreate the legendary Mcdonald's french fry... Whether you believe its A, B, or C, these fries are identical to McDonalds. Ain't nothing wrong with that! But like the Men I date, I prefer my fries to be "thicker"... JK! ;-) read more

I stole a bite out of my BFF's lobster roll and I was in love!! The fresh tasting lobster, the purity of its flavor and the perfectly buttery roll... yuuuummm I first tried Two for the Road at the Tuesday Food Truck gathering on Adams Ave. I couldn't stop thinking about that lobster roll for days. The Friday AA Beer Club meet at 57 Degrees ( every 3rd Friday of each month they have food trucks in the back parking lot). As soon as I saw the white and blue checkered truck I went straight there!! I tried the shrimp BLT, look at my picture as it speaks for itself!! Deliciously fresh until the last bite. Shrimp fresh, not over cooked, perfect amount of mayo, bacon crispy and the bread crispy, buttery and soft all at the same time. Now about those fries... Wow momma!! Nothing special to them, nothing fancy, but every single one is crispy! The $14 I paid for the lobster roll and the $9 for the shrimp BLT was ohhh so worth it!! You honestly get whet you pay for. read more

Food so good I would serve it at my wedding... and we did! They had us at Cap'n Crunch Crab Cakes and we were swooning after the Lobster Roll. So yummy it's hard for me to try their other menu options because I don't want to miss out on those two. As far as the wedding -- everything went great. They communicated with us the whole through and worked with us to create a menu for our guests (who raved about the food!). Plus their retro "Two for the Road" logo was a perfect fit for the big day. Lisa and her crew were a pleasure to work with and if I was throwing another big party I would book them again. read more

I've tried these guys twice now and although I've had better food elsewhere I enjoy supporting my local food truck. My first meal I had was the monte cristo and it was super good. Rather small but these gave me an excuse for me to try their lobster roll. That I was not a big fan of, plain and simple it wasn't to my liking. The second meal was their Dr. Pepper burger and fries. I liked the fries as they were dusted in parmesan cheese but the burger wasn't exciting and the meat lacked overall flavor. I expected a sweet caramelized patty but got a bland burger instead. I do appreciate that they have Cravory cookies as those are the best in the business, and the throwback sodas, Cheerwine is my fave. read more

If I had to sum up Two for the Road in one word, I'd use "Meh." My coworkers and I ate there a few minutes ago. We ordered three Brooklyn Burgers, some fries and the Cap'n Crunch crab cakes. The idea for the burger sounds awesome. From bottom to top: Bun, spicy slaw, burger, pastrami, melty swiss cheese, bun. The idea is fantastic. The execution, however, left something to be desired. The bottom bun was fine. The spicy slaw was not spicy. The burger was shaped almost like a golf ball and very overcooked. The pastrami was low quality. The swiss cheese was good. The top bun was at least a full inch thick. Way too much bread. The fries with the Parmesan cheese were quite nice. The Cap'n Cruch crab cakes got mixed reviews. I thought they were low quality and funky tasting. Sweetness with crab? No thanks. I do have to say that one of my coworkers loved them. All in all, I'd have to say that they have some good ideas, but the quality of the ingredients is low. I don't think I'll be rushing back to Two for the Road. read more

Since I grew up in New England, I rarely get Maine lobster on the west coast due to obvious reasons. That being said, I tried this food truck out at Balboa Park's Food Truck Friday. The line was on the longer end, but usually that means it's worth the wait. I got the lobster grilled cheese with a small side of fries. I was tempted to get a Maine woopie pie but they looked a bit smooshed. The bisected grilled cheese showed a decent amount of lobster and the buttered bread and cheese were comfort food done well. I tried a bit of my friend's crab cake, and it was tasty but felt more like a falafel than a crabby crab cake. read more

Oh my goodness. For a food truck, the food was AMAZING! I got the lobster roll and the crab cakes. The lobster roll is filled with big chunks of lobster meat. Its $14, but it's lobster, so what do you expect? I think it's worth it. The crab cakes are perfectly crunchy on the outside and have a ton of flavor and crab on the inside. Thumbs up from me! Tried this food truck last Tuesday in South Park and ordered their lobster roll. This was the most popular thing on the menu and I've never had a lobster roll before so it seemed to be the best bet. $14 seemed a little steep at first but once I got home and took one bite, I was hooked! The bread was nicely toasted and they definitely did not skimp on the lobster. My sandwich must've been stuffed with 2 whole lobster claws and more! Picky Hubby even loved it and he still talks about it a week later. Will definitely be looking out for them at other food truck gatherings. read more

I've tried this food truck out a few times and the food is pretty good but on the pricey side. I think they're most popular item is the lobster roll. If you like lobster, then you'd probably enjoy this sandwich. It comes in a roll and they give a good amount of lobster. It costs $14. For $2 extra, you can get them to put extra lobster in it as well. I don't really like lobster or crave it so it was just ok to me. The lobster roll isn't something I would crave or need to try again. Today I tried the cap n crunch crab cakes. I didn't really taste the cap n crunch batter but the crab cakes were pretty big. It's like an inch thick and they give you two. The crunchiness of it and the spicy mayo sauce is what makes it taste so good. I got a half order of fries for $2 but they also have a full order for $4. They give a good amount of fries for each portion. Tip: if you can pay with cash, do it. They charge 50 cents for credit card transactions. All in all, if you like seafood then try this place out. It's pretty pricey though so don't be so shocked when you see the prices. read more

This is the second time I've had them. First time 3.5, we had a burger that had pastrami on top I think. It was good not great, but the bottom bun was soggy. It's been a long time since I ate here (they came to my work which was awesome, but it was a one time thing) but I remember being happy with it. The lobster roll is obviously the most expensive item and the roll wasn't HUGE or anything cuz lobster is freaking expensive, but it was good and had a good ratio of mayo to the lobster. The presentation was great and the condiments and stuff tucked right into my little basket made it easy to carry. I would go back. read more

This cute little food truck serves up some pretty decent food...but from the reviews I guess I should have gone with the lobster! Ohhhh well...next time! I ordered the Shrimp BLT ($9) The bread was nice and buttery. The shrimp was perfect! It came with lettuce, tomatoes and a siracha lime mayo sauce and of course...the bacon! They don't skimp on the bacon either...Unfortunately for me, the bacon made the sandwich too salty for my taste. They have quite a collection of specialty chips as well as bottled sodas. Tried my girlfriends lobster roll and I'm not even a fan of lobster. Man was it good! Love that it was all claw meat! Lisa and her team provided a fantastic menu custom to our event last night, and I couldn't begin to explain how satisfied we were with the service and taste of Two for the Road food truck. At first, her responses were the quickest and most professional that I had received from San Diego Food Truck's online site. We chose TFTR because of their great reviews, professionalism, and delectable looking menu's that were a perfect fit for our event. The menu we were able to customize with Lisa was simple, yet all that our guests needed for a block party to celebrate our company's anniversary party. We had a bit over 50 guests attend and Lisa and her team provided exceptional food throughout the night. The cheeseburger was unbelievable and made so quickly. I also couldn't help myself from sampling the artichoke grilled cheese that was out of this world!!! It's alright. I've tried them a couple of times at the Mira Mesa Epicenter Food Trucks on Mondays. I had the Caprese Sandwich and Parmesan Fries and was not too pleased with it. I wish you had your own website so I could do this discreetly. But your salmon sandwich had no flavor

Their lobster roll is the best! There's real lobster chunks inside a grilled bun that's just heavenly. I only wish they would stop raising the price haha. It went from $14 to $16 in just 2 weeks! If you don't want to spend that much on lunch, I also recommend their spinach and artichoke grilled cheese (last time I saw, I think it was $7). It's thick and packed with gooey yum. We love the menu. We were at Domaine Artifact Winery today& had the Duet (1/2 lobster roll & Cap'n Crunch Crabcakes - both sooo good!

I am disappoint. I was excited to see a "Seattle salmon sandwich" on the menu for $8 so that's what I ordered. Fresh piece of Pacific Northwest salmon on a bun! Awesome right? Wrong! The salmon patty was a Costco salmon patty (yes, I know my salmon burgers) which is ground and formed salmon bits. I guess the "Seattle" part in the title was probably due to the fact that the patties are made by Kirkland Signature, Costco's house brand based out of Kirkland, a Seattle suburb. Annoying little white lie deception right off the bat. So what did my $8 get me? The aforementioned ground salmon patty, a mass-produced and wholly unremarkable multigrain bun that was too bready and dominated the smaller patty by comparison, a runny and nondescript tartar sauce, and some lettuce, tomato, and onion. I'd guess no more than 70-80 cents of food cost sold for a whopping $8, cooked on a greasy flat top grill. Oh, and would you like fries with that? That's gonna cost you $3 more. For that price, I would have liked to have seen a real piece of fish, a freshly toasted craft bakery bun, some decent veggies, and maybe some halfway creative sauce with a little more umph. Something that's worth $8 served from a food truck. I've noticed this trend spreading with the San Diego food trucks lately, using shittier ingredients and charging the customer MORE. On a recent trip to Portland, I didn't see this issue, so why is it happening here in San Diego? The whole idea behind food trucks gaining national prominence in recent years was because you had real chefs giving the finger to tradition and coming up with amazing dishes using gourmet artisanal ingredients at a fraction of the price of a sit down restaurant. San Diego food trucks, you're doing it wrong!!! read more

I have had my share of disappointing lobster rolls. Many of which were in the Southern California region. I have to say that this food truck, it does not disappoint in the slightest. In fact, let's put it this way. In the limited time that I was in the area I had this truck twice in a matter of a few days instead of trying a few other trucks. It may be $12, but unlike other food truck lobster rolls that I have had, this one really highlights the lobster without the need to putting a lot of filler items and slattering it with mayo. The butter roll that it comes with is also top notch. It really compliments the sandwich stuffing perfectly and gives it a good texture when you're biting into those rather large chunks of lobster. Then you have the cap n crunch crab cakes. I don't know how these came to be, but I'm questioning my atheism after biting into one, as this must be proof that a higher power exist and that he/she does indeed love us. For if they didn't, how could you have something so good? The service on the truck is pretty efficient and friendly. Which really does come across when you see the truck in all its wholesome 1950's sort of look and feel. They crank out the food pretty fast and they also have Leninade. Which is something the communist in me just loves. If I see this truck again I will have to try really hard to NOT want to go to it and order a lot of food from. One hell of a delicious food truck. read more

I liked these people and I liked my lunch: a lobster roll with a half-order of fries. Two for the Road is one of the better food trucks that I've encountered in La Jolla and one that I hope to visit again. There were four of us together. My companion Bruce J. pointed out that the texture of the lobster meat was "wrong" -- the lobster had been frozen. He knows because he cooked five lobsters for a large family dinner a couple of weeks ago. I've certainly had fresh lobster, and I'm forced to agree with him. But I thought that the lobster roll was delicious nonetheless. The truck, by the way, looked almost sketchy when I encountered it. It could use more than a little sprucing up. The "gastrotrucks" in this area tend to be gleaming and spotless. TFTR seemed sad in comparison. read more

Yumo0o0o0 as Rachel Ray would say! Seriously tho... I can eat two things everyday for the rest of my life... Mexican food and sandwiches! I mean come on... everything taste better between bread or a tortilla! I was first impressed with 24TRoads menu... cheap prices, yummy lookin food (capt'n crunch crab cakes.... YES) and a long line *DING DING DING! winner winner chicken dinner as Guy Fierei would say ( I watch a lot of Food Network can u tell?) So I got the turkey brie sandwich with an apricot spread and I was NOT disappointed! For like 6 or 7 bucks I got a HUGE samich with real slices of turkey (the kind your mom gives you on the holidays) smothered in gooey brie.. and if your a true foodie you will order it with some caramelized onions to blend well with the apricot spread. Oh and did I mention garlic fries with that... gotdamn!!! :) You wanna eat GOOD in Daygo without the crazy price tags.. food trucks are the way to go... and two for the road is alllll good in my book! read more

Two for the Road reminds me of those old black and white films with the white picket fence and a happy ending. Why? Because: 1. The service was straight up friendly 2. They continuously spin oldies but goodies (and trust, it had my sister and I doing the booty bump. Talk about shared interests between two generations) 3. I left with a happy ending, which came in the form of a crisp, buttered roll stuffed with HUGE chunks of lobster. I mean... that sucker was dripping goodness down my arms! The meat was sweet and the sauce mixed into it was simple and delicious. Thinking that it was too small for me (never judge a lobster roll by its size) It tamed my hunger and I barely had space to down the fries. Now... forget that the meat was frozen and forget that the fries were just... fries. They made sure we were taken care of and I know I'll be back there again. The End. read more

Ok literally this truck is legit. Ordered lobster roll this time and omg....they give you a hefty amount of real...REAL, not crawfish, lobster meat. I haven't written a review in almost 4 years-- decided that Two for the Road was worth the review! They were at an event where I tried the lobster roll. I thought it tasted fresh and tasty with the perfect buttered bun. My friend from the east coast said after SEVEN years of bad lobster rolls in SD, she thinks she's finally found the one! Definitely worth the try! My other friends tried the captain crunch crab cakes- said it was the BEST dish they've tried out of any SD food truck (and we eat from a lot of food trucks!), so that's saying a lot. A superb mix between sweet and savory, crispy and flavorful. I mean, who doesn't love fried crab cakes AND captain crunch?! Lastly, heard the Brooklyn burger was also amazing. A juicy delicious patty, topped with pastrami and finished with a spicy cole slaw. They devoured it. Not to mention, they have a friendly staff and I got my food within minutes. I know this truck is just starting out (3 months?), but they will shortly be one of the most successful and popular trucks to be in SD. What a cute truck they have! And with a name like that, how can you not love them? Really looking forward to their new addition in SD and trying more of them items! read more

I was so excited to see they had a lobster roll on the menu. Without hesitation I ordered one. When I got the roll I was a bit disappointed. I should have asked before I ordered what was in the roll, but I kinda just assumed it was going to be like the rolls from The Lobsta Truck in LA. It was okay, but I guess I was hoping for warm, buttery, garlicy lobster roll instead of a cold lobster roll. The bread was good, the lobster was okay. I'll have to try some other items at the next food truck event. Their branding is very cute though. read more

I've eaten here several times, they park near work once a week. I had the curry cashew chicken salad twice- it was awesome both times. Tons of great ingredients- chunks of chicken, celery, grapes, cashews, green onions (I think) and light on the dressing. A lot of salad for about 6.50. At a food truck festival I had the Monte Cristo. It was good if you like a ton of breading. Kind of light on the ingredients. I'm used to the Monte Cristo at Bennigan's, which is packed with cheese, ham, and turkey. This one was just meh. Today I had the Cap'n Crunch crab cakes for lunch. What a ripoff. 8 bucks for two barely edible crab cakes. They use imitation crab! There is a lot of breading which looks like panko. I couldn't tell that they were encrusted in the cereal. There's also red onion and cilantro. It was not good. This place is hit or miss. Coworkers think it's just OK, too. read more

Decided to go for a 'healthier' slant to my food truck dining this evening, and choose the salmon burger... and the for good measure tacked on an order Cap'n Crunch crusted crab cakes. When ordering crab cakes, I expect them to be two things: 1) pricey, 2) not very big. I'm happy to report that at least #2 on my expectations was wrong (though the price wasn't bad given the portion size). My impression of the meal before digging in was that this was put together by someone that takes pride in their work. They took the time to make sure our box was properly put together and food was well presented. I was definitely not disappointed by the taste, either. My salmon burger was light and refreshing, with a plump whole wheat roll, two very nice red tomato slices, and a few (raw) red onion rings with a fresh looking leaf of lettuce (probably romaine). It was sitting on a slather of tzatziki sauce. The whole thing was very good and I didn't miss having not gotten a much unhealthier option from one of the other delicious food trucks available. The crab cakes were equally good, with the sweet crust and creamy crab insides complimented well by the zesty sauce and hint of citrus. Long story short, Two for the Road is an excellent food truck and they will be seeing me again! read more
