Another San Diego favorite of mine. These guys are spot on with their fried chicken and I hope so by the name of the restaurant. Wait time is efficient due to the cook time. No hot lamps I've ever seen. I always pick up so no say on ambiance. Stop by and get your cluck on.

Affordable, juicy and hearty. Love this local joint. It's kinda like a IYKYK, mom and pop shop. The chicken is super crispy and flavorful. I really love the tenders also. It's a nice change from your genetic chicken chains. Chicken and rice is thee best combo. They have a pretty large menu, plenty of new things to try. Service is good, food is fresh and fast.

Some of my favorite fried chicken and seafood in SD! Pretty sure everything is made fresh. The chicken and catfish are super juicy and crispy. Shrimp was plump and tender. Definitely recommend their okra! Coleslaw was good too but a little too wet. Can't wait to come back!

MAKE SURE TO ORDER AHEAD.. Always a great choice. I ordered my food and was told 20 minutes, it was more like 35-40 wait.

Stopped in to get our fried chicken fix and ended up falling in love with the jumbo fried shrimp. This place is on point, the jumbo 8 shrimp combo is a must try. The shrimp are huge...make sure to get cocktail sauce and hot sauce. Pass on Mac and cheese but the mash and gravy are tasty. The fried chicken was made to order...get the hot sauce with it as well. The place has a small section to eat in but would recommend carry out.

Tried calling to place a takeout order and they didn't answer. Walked in and ordered a popcorn chicken combo which included 2 sides. I ordered mashed potatoes and fried zucchini. They weren't good. Fried zucchini had good texture but was very bland. The popcorn chicken wasn't crispy at all. Though the coating had good flavor, it was falling off. Chicken was dry. I could see if it was sitting out for a little while but it wasn't. Also waited 25 minutes for my order. All together, wasn't very good. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the portion size was large.

Fried chicken ala carte.

Our families go to place for fried chicken. Tonight was fantastic. We ordered to-go and everything was hot and crisp on schedule. Excellent as usual.

The best. Dark meat.

My family has been getting fried chicken here for over a decade because they are great. Always extremely crispy, seasoned just right, and they come out piping hot with the juiciest meat. Hence, the wait time could be up to 30 minutes if you're waiting for a fresh batch. The menu is big, filled with all deep fried goodness. Their sweet potato fries are some of the best in town as they're nicely seasoned and never soggy. Seriously worth a trip no matter where you are in SD.

Ask the Community - Crispy Fried Chicken

Does this place sell garlic noodles?

yuh

Did this place change ownership in the past 2 years? Looking for 2020 and 2021 reviews from diners.?

My apologies for not writing a current review since we continue to visit this SD gem! It's still in the same owner's hands (see other answer) and the quality remains consistently fantastic!

Does anyone know if this place is open during Covid-19 restrictions?

It's open for take out and delivery on app like Postmate.

Does Huy still work here?!..

Unfortunately, not anymore.. I heard he sold the shop and opened a restaurant next to GTM in Santee, named the Chicken Shop

Does this place use local or natural meats?

I do not think so. Too expensive for the amount that they have to make and what they sell

(4.5/5) Tried Epic…read moreWings recently and honestly, it's one of the better wing spots I've been to in a while I ordered the classic buffalo wings with fries, and everything came out hot and fresh, which already puts them ahead of a lot of places. The wings were a really good size--not tiny--and cooked just right. Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. The buffalo sauce had a nice kick to it without being overwhelming, so you can actually enjoy the flavor instead of just burning your mouth off. The fries were also solid--crispy, well-seasoned, and not greasy. You can tell they actually care about how their food comes out, not just throwing stuff together. I also tried their ranch, and it was really good (definitely needed more though, they don't give a ton ). The service was quick and smooth. Staff seemed chill and didn't take long to get the order out, even though it was a bit busy when I went. The place itself had a relaxed, casual vibe--good for just hanging out or grabbing food with friends. Only reason I'm not giving a full 5 stars is because I wish the portion of sides/sauces was a little bigger, especially for the price. But overall, the quality of the food definitely makes up for it. If you're looking for a reliable wing spot with good flavor and consistent quality, Epic Wings is 100% worth checking out. I'll definitely be coming ba

I've tried some of the other locations (liberty station especially can sometimes overcook their wings) but this location always gets it right. The location is fairly large- many tables and a bar area but it does fill up on nights where there are games being shown. There is sometimes a bit of a wait but always a good vibe here. The servers are friendly and check in throughout the meal.

I was seated quickly on this bar table thing (not the actual bar) and it was high up. The prices were pretty expensive at $12.50 for five wings, not including any sides/sauces. I came here on a Monday and got the Monday AYCE wing special. The AYCE made it more worth it but still a bit pricy at $31 per person. For AYCE, it comes with fries or tater tots, a sauce, 10 wings, and some carrots and celery for your first order. After that, you get 5 wings per refill. The wings were a good size though the skin wasn't really crispy or anything. I tried buffalo, lemon pepper, and flaming honey mustard. Buffalo and lemon pepper are my go to flavors but I didn't really enjoy any of the flavors I tried. There were an overwhelming amount of flavors so it was a bit hard to choose on the spot with AYCE but now I wish I tried some different ones. Our waitress was pretty nice and checked in on us a good amount. Overall, I felt like the food was just okay, and for the value made it less good. My rating is a bit higher because of the service. I might come back to try some other flavors since this is such an iconic San Diego chain.

The fried chicken is still crispy, addictive, and mostly consistent between locations. I'd pick Korean fried chicken over American fried chicken chains any day, but the items here are quite pricey. I even politely asked if I could try two sauces since it was my first visit. The kid blinked at me like I'd asked him to solve a riddle and whispered "one sauce only." Fine. I chose the spiciest one and moved on with my life. After a wait, he brings out bone‑in wings. I remind him I ordered boneless, and suddenly I'm trapped in a loop where he keeps repeating, "That sauce does not come on boneless," as if the universe itself forbids it. This would've been excellent information to share before cooking the wrong thing, but here we are. He eventually checks with the back and offers boneless with the second‑spiciest sauce, which at this point feels like a hostage negotiation. I accept. The boneless arrives. It's dark meat (not my favorite). The sauce is sticky sweet gochujang with a personality crisis. And the only dip option is ranch. No bleu cheese. No dignity. Nothing tasted bad. Nothing was inedible. But the whole experience felt like ordering chicken inside a bureaucratic escape room. Fresh food, sure, but the communication gaps and sauce‑based existentialism made the visit exhausting rather than exciting.

TL;DR It's really good. Go here…read more -------------- I came here after a friend recommended it when I told them I was coming down to San Diego for a day trip during my spring break from school in Orange County. I was born and raised in LA, so I've had a lot of Chinese food growing up, and I wasn't expecting to be this surprised--but I really was. I ordered the black bean eggplant and the salt and pepper chicken wings. The wings are what they're known for, but I have to start with the eggplant because it completely caught me off guard. It wasn't mushy at all--crispy on the outside, perfectly cooked on the inside, and coated in sauce without losing its texture. Every bite had depth and balance, not just saltiness. I actually meant to start with the wings, but the eggplant was so good I ended up eating half of it before even getting to them. By that point I was already getting full, but I still made sure to finish the wings--and I'm honestly excited to take the rest of the eggplant home as leftovers. By the time I got to the wings, I understood why they're popular--crispy, flavorful, and super satisfying--but what stood out to me was how both dishes complemented each other. One rich and layered, the other crisp and bright. I never got tired of eating, which honestly says a lot. I even told the staff how much I enjoyed the food and they thought I was joking, but I meant every word in saying I thought it was comparable, if not better then the food I've had in Chinatown in LA. Really glad I came here and the next time I have a chance to come back down to SD I definitely will come back here and that's not negotiable for me

This place is NOT worth the high rating it has. We ordered the Fried Green Beans, they were cooked in oil that was obviously not to temperature. Too greasy for consumption. To make it worse? They were drowned in salt! The Crispy Beef was nothing but thick dough with no beef inside. To add insult to injury it was BURNED so badly that all you could smell was burnt dough and taste burned dough. Hardly any sauce on it as well. The Shrimp Fried Rice should have just been plain white rice for how bland it was. The Vegetable Chow Mein literally was just a container of salt. Slim noodles and salt, disgusting! We spent so much money and all of this is going right into the garbage. Stay away from this hole! It should be shut down for trying to poison people. Feels like I am going to go blind from the amount of salt I ingested from only a few bites. Gross!!
