I went here after work for some chicken and tried both the original and spicy. I must say, I liked the original better. I got the mixed chicken, which included two wings and a drumstick, along with potato wedges. The prices are reasonable, the service was fast and friendly, and there's plenty of seating in the food court. My only complaint is the size of the wings--they were a little too big for my liking.
I got the Mac n cheese and the fried chicken wings. I waited about 10 min for them to prepare the food but it was piping hot and everything was very tasty. The wings were full of flavor as they add peppers and onions and other seasonings. Great spot to order food to go if you don't feel like cooking after shopping at 99 Ranch, lol.
This place is located in the food court inside 99 Ranch in Balboa Ave. They have tables to sit in. I ordered the 3 piece chicken combo meal. Salt & pepper flavor. Also, ordered the spicy mac & cheese. Chicken was pretty crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The mac & cheese was also very good
I thought their 4 pieces for 10 dollars was a great deal. Chicken was way juicer than I expected too. Kfc and other fast food chicken places seem so dry compared to the chicken here. The lady that helped me was nice and the service was fast.
We went to shop at new 99 Ranch. It was late, so we decided to buy dinner here and brought back home. I pre-ordered the food from Hungry Panda because they have some promotion there, the price is better than order directly on the counter. I had some fried chicken, some buffalo chicken plus biscuits. They made all of these things from scratch so they were so fresh and warm when I got them. Although it takes 20 minutes took the takeout back home, they were still very fresh, the fried chicken was still crispy outside. Inside parts were juicy and tender. The butter biscuit was very buttery and tasty. I think the experience was better than I expected, they make good chicken!
It has been a while since I visited the food court inside then 99 Ranch Market on Balboa, so I was surprised to see that Krispy Krunchy Chicken is now called Cluck N Sip. Aside from the name change, everything else was still the same. They still have the same week day specials and the same excellent fried chicken! Taste and value, my family and I think they are the best in San Diego! Service is really quick and friendly. After you place your order, you can either take it to go or eat inside the food court. It's clean and very spacious.
4.5 stars Technically I like the old recipe better before they re-branded, but I still like the current version better than the other fries chicken options out there. Updated signs and pricing, but also daily 20% off specials including everything on weekends. Monday I had 2 thigh/drum/biscuit for under $7, which is a great deal compared to all the other places with single entrees $11-16+. Located in the food court in Ranch 99, which is the less busy location with ample parking. Service 5/5 Fried chicken 4.5/5 Biscuit 5/5

This place is located inside of 99Ranch on Balboa. My little sister and I assumed that they would be serving Korean style wings, but we were still satisfied with our meal! The food is displayed in a heat lamp thing, but other fast food chicken spots do the same. The wings and potato wedges were still perfectly crunchy. They also had a pretty extensive sauce menu which is limited to 1 sauce per 3 pieces of chicken or an additional charge. What we got: - Buffalo wings: crunchy, vinegar-y, and juicy - Crunchy wings: crunchy, these were good with the sauces that they offered - Potato wedges: perfectly seasoned and crispy! - Mac and cheese: this one reminded us of the Mac and cheese that gets served at school, only a little better. I should have probably ordered the hot Mac and cheese -- maybe it would have been slightly more seasoned. I want to say that it was a family that was running the business together, and they were great! The food court and this spot were fairly empty when we were there, so we got our food really quickly and they were all really accommodating. There are plenty of seating too if you choose to dine there.
Rating: 7.5/10 Decent fried chicken at a relatively inexpensive price located in 99 Ranch. Came here today around 6PM after work to grab a bite before grocery shopping. Krispy Krunchy Chicken is located inside the food court of 99 Ranch along with a few other restaurants. There is a large dining area to have your food as well if you want to eat there. Ambiance is very casual and when I went, there were not that many people in the eating area. There was no line when I ordered, and the two workers who took and prepared my order were very kind to give me a cup of water and extra sauce even though they are charging for more sauce (free sauce for every 3 pieces of chicken). All the chicken here is pre-made and sit under heating lamps, which I why I docked off a few points in this rating since the chicken is not completely fresh and made to order. That being said, the chicken pieces are actually quite crunchy and moist for sitting out. 1) Cajun Tender Combo: 7/10. This combo is $8.99 (at the time of the writing this review) and comes with 4 large Cajun tenders, one honey biscuit, and sauce. The Cajun tenders were actually much bigger than I thought and very crispy. The meat wasn't overly dry but not overly juicy as well. It also did not taste like Cajun seasoning to me, but it had a very standard fried chicken taste. The biscuit was dry and flaky, but it contrasted well with the salty and crunchy chicken. I got BBQ sauce but they have an extensive list of sauces to choose from as well. Overall, I would come back if I wanted to grab a bite to eat before or after grocery shopping, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. Service is friendly and quick, but the food is not fresh and made to order. I would recommend you try this out yourself to see if you like it as well!
Not made fresh to order. Everything's pre-cooked/fried and displayed in the front and they just grab from there and reheat/refry to order. I thought it was mid.
I was just passing by to use the RESTROOM at the food court. I didn't mean to buy anything but, the lady just came out with some fresh DRUMSTICKS!!! Who could resist a FRESH BATCH of FRIED CHICKEN... At first, I was attracted by the special $8.99 Chicken sandwich with fries and a drink. But, when I saw her carry out a fresh batch of Fried CHICKEN I had to order some... 2 PIECE CHICKEN: 9/10 It was very light and crunchy! However, it is very OILY. I lifted up the chicken thigh and it was dripping oil. That was my first meal of the day so some OIL is not going to stop my from devouring the Chicken. I chose the spicy mayo sauce. The honey on the biscuit was lovely but, the biscuit itself stuck to my teeth as I bit into it... AMBIANCE: Food court with lots of table seating... We had a last-minute need for 300 pieces of fried chicken for the Point Loma High School Football Team dinner, and Cluck N Sip absolutely came through! Sunny was simply amazing and so incredibly helpful! She went above and beyond to help us with our large, last-minute order and made the whole process so easy. And the chicken... SO GOOD! It was a huge hit with the boys and definitely a team favorite. Everyone loved it! Thank you, Sunny and Cluck N Sip, for helping make our team dinner a success! For those who said this is better than Jollibee, count your days! Lol JK. But in all seriousness, the chicken was just ok for me. Got the MWF special, 8 pieces for 15.99. They only had original flavor and it came with 3 small sauces to choose. I opted to get the sweet and spicy, ranch and garlic Parmesan. I also got the biscuits because the foodie vloggers kept raving about it. I didnt eat it at the location. Opted to take out and have rice with it. I dont think my mind would have changed its opinion if i ate it there or at home. It was good, however, i found the chicken to be really oily. The sauces didnt add to it, it would have been fine without it. The honey butter biscuits were just ok for me as well. It's decent, however, i doubt i will be craving this particular chicken spot. This location is inside the 99 ranch off balboa ave, plenty of parking and lots of tables to sit at in the food court. The employee on duty was nice as well. read more

The food court at this 99 Ranch Market location in Clairemont is rarely busy. Krispy Krunchy Chicken probably does the best business out of the four vendors there. I came to get a mid-day snack after doing some shopping nearby. At the time of my visit, there was plenty of fried chicken sitting in the display cabinet under the heat lamp. I should have taken that as a bad sign. I ordered a two piece mixed meat combination for my meal which came with a biscuit and mashed potatoes as sides. The chicken pieces I received were warm from the lamp and not piping hot from the fryer. The crust was okay for crispiness, but I had expected better. The biscuit and mashed potatoes were also average as they did not stand out in quality. From a price perspective, this place was competitive with the national fried chicken joints like KFC, Popeye's, Church's, etc. There was plenty of seating at the food court tables which were kept pretty clean by the workers so that was a positive. read more

Food is amazing here. The fish is made fresh to order and the chicken is always crispy, tender, and juicy. The biscuits can be a bit dry but the honey butter that they add on top makes up for it. I'd eat here every day if I could. The honey mustard that they make in-house is also amazing, definitely a must try item. read more
The name says it all about their fried chicken. They are seasoned well with a tiny bit of flavor and not salty at all. Great paired with steamed rice and papaya salad. The biscuits weren't my favorite. They were too dry and crumbled and fell apart really easily. read more
Located inside ranch 99 food court. Chickens were delicious if you eat right there. They pack them in a plastic bag and will get soggy after. Before everyone rushes over for the $9.58 8 pieces, it's actually $14.99 now. Yup! Inflation sucks! Chickens were on the tiny side. They offer a variety of sauces. My fave were honey mustard and ranch. Don't expect much friendly service here. The gal was pretty grouchy. But it's only the food court so I can care less about service. Will I be back? This location is tied into a Gas station-Acorn Casino and the chicken is at the register area. There is a place to sit inside the casino after you get your Chicken. I've had alot of fried chicken and heard alot of good things about Krispy Krunchy and my expectations were high. I was disappointed that the cashier for the gas station got your food and noticed she wasn't wearing gloves to handle the food. They had the chicken under a heat lamp but must sell alot cause it was not dried out or rubbery. It was surprisingly very moist! Krispy Krunchy Chicken is located in 99 Ranch market in the food court off Balboa in Kearny Mesa, serving up some of the finest crispness and crunchy chicken! I have seen this franchise all over the South, including MS and TX, mainly in gas stations serving fried chicken. I came through on a weekday right after 10 AM and noticed they didn't open until 1030, so I walked around 99 Ranch for 30 minutes just browsing at all the items they have. At 1030, I came back and placed my order of the 4 piece dark chicken. There's an option of mixed dark or light, but who likes chicken breast? They have plenty of sides to choose from, such as jambalaya, red beans and rice, mac and cheese, fries, mashed potatoes, and gravy, and they also have tenders and wings. I was told the chicken would be ready in about 10 minutes, and I didn't complain once since I knew I would be getting the most freshest fried chicken straight from the fryer since they just opened. There are plenty of booths to sit at and restrooms on station for you to enjoy your meal. Shortly later, my food was ready to go, and I picked up my food from the staff. I was offered sauces, and wow, they have a lot to choose from, but I went ahead with the basics of Louisiana hot sauce and ketchup. After I snapped my pics, I quickly dove in and burned my mouth since the chicken was so fresh and fried golden brown to perfection. I was given 2 thighs and 2 legs, and they crispness was out of this world! The breading was a thin breading, and that chicken skin was seasoned appropriately as to where steam profusely comes out when you dive into it. I found myself dipping the chicken in the hot sauce and ketchup and even sucking the bones to get every last drop of meat from it. The biscuit was hot, fresh, and delightfully moist. It was a great addition to the meal, and I was one happy customer! Overall outstanding place for Cajun fried chicken in the Kearny Mesa area. The staff obviously knows how to progressive cook and does a great job at it. I will be back to get more items and sides since this fried chicken place is super affordable compared to the competitors. If you haven't tried this place out, then I'm telling you to definitely go, and I'm sure you won't be dissatisfied. read more

Not a fan of this as the chicken was so-so and the worker was not friendly. I asked for recommendations and told her I wanted chicken and wedges and if I should make a combo meal or order a la carte to maximize a deal. I would have more items but she had nothing else to say to me. She rudely picked up the paper tray to show me the small and large size. Yeah, I can read that off the menu myself but I wanted to know my options. Mind you, she was not busy and prior to my arrival, she stood there waiting for customers. Anyways, we got the 8 piece dark mixed and wedges. It was placed in a paper bag so when we got home the bag was damp from all the moisture and chicken was less crispy. The outside was crispy dry and the inside was just like eh. Best way to describe is that Frozen Tyson chicken taste just the same! Came by Ranch 99 and stumbled on Krispy Chicken. Everything looked fresh. The chicken was moist and juicy. Loved the crispy skin and I liked that it was light breading. Just not as flavorful as I was hoping for - you have to manually enhance the flavor by adding seasoning yourself. There were a few choices and I got the Cajun spices. We also got fried fish and shrimp. Out of all the 3 - we all LOVE the fish the best. The biscuits were pretty good. Very flavorful. It has a crispy honey flavored coating. And we also ordered Mac & Cheese and Jambalaya on the side. We were not a fan of the jambalaya. It was very dry. Didn't taste or look like jambalaya. I would personally not call it jambalaya. read more
Considering the name of this business, I expected more. I guess this place is overhyped? We went to the Balboa Avenue location, inside 99 Ranch Market. It's physical location is in a small Asian food court off to the side of the grocery. I wish I would've chosen one of the other restaurants there instead. I found the chicken just okay. I had one breast, fries and a biscuit. The chicken didn't have that krispy and crunchy bite I expected. Even the somewhat moist interior couldn't rescue the breast. The breading was a little soft, actually, probably from sitting under warming lights. The taste was nothing special; I hardly detected any sort of seasoning on it. It could have benefited from some simple sea salt and pepper. There were no spices on the tables. The French fries were of the steak fry cut variety, which I usually love. Unfortunately, I did not care for whatever spice was sprinkled over them, as it didn't bring anything discernible to the fry other than an off-taste. The fries would have been better off without that 'cajun' seasoning, and better if they just added a desperately needed sprinkle of salt. The biscuit was flavorless, so I stopped eating it. All around, the lunch was not at all what I expected. I was looking forward to Krispy Krunchy chicken but it was not to be. It's a one and done for me. read more

A good fast casual spot for fried chicken in the same vein as KFC. Excellent service and efficient piping hot food. Great for food in a pinch. The location itself is located within the 99 Ranch plaza and is great for an after grocery snack. The chicken was crispy and crunchy as they said, though not particularly cajun influenced. The blueberry biscuit was reminiscent of a lil bite blueberry muffin but with the crunch and texture of a biscuit. A little artificial but still tasty. read more
Ah yes, good things come when you least expect it. I've found they also come when you research them in advance haha -- as is the case with Krispy Krunchy Chicken. As others have mentioned, who would've thought that tasty fried chicken would find a home in the 99 Ranch on Balboa's food court. It's typically busy and for good reason - they serve fresh, hot, and yes, crunch fried chicken. To be candid I was already stuffed from a previous meal, but with all the rave reviews from friends and on Yelp, made room to try it. Opted for the smallest combo: a 2 piece with biscuit. It delivered and I get it now. The chicken was juicy and crisp. Great texture on the batter and well prepared. The biscuit was also oh-so-buttery and delightful. Definitely noted for future fried chicken cravings and/or grocery runs at 99 Ranch. read more

Krispy Krunchy Chicken is now a staple at our work pot lucks thanks to our co worker who introduced this to us. So has to call in a order for a last minute celebration. Let me just say.. customer service over the phone was great! Called as soon as they opened and they had my order ready within 15 mins. The chicken is delicious! I usually prefer chicken breast but this place has changed the game for me! I absolutely love the thighs and legs! They are so flavorful! The pieces are pretty big too. They are still open, but changed their name from Krispy Krunchy Chicken to Cluck n Sip.
