Most of the food was food. I'm not sure what happened to the Mac and Cheese but it was just off. Runny and with odd cheese. Chicken is good. Both the strips and actual chicken pieces.
This was my first stop in San Diego!! My fam and I were in need of lunch and because my little monster is such a fan of Cane's chicken tenders, I immediately did a quick search on Yelp. Due to Cluck N Sip being extremely close and the reviews not being too shabby, I went with it. Parking on the street was absolutely nonexistent and due to the small lot behind the eatery being small, don't be surprised if you strike out there too. We eventually make it into the eatery and I am floored by the food offers. I came here assuming this was just gonna be the typical American fried chicken kind of deal and instead I am met with jambalaya, Hainan Chicken Rice, Sichuan Spicy Tenders/Wings, crispy flounder fish, & rice bowls???!!! All while priding themselves on serving Halal chicken. Our order: 9pc Chicken Tenders Order of Fries [famous] Mac N Cheese Food: These chicken tenders are huge!! Meaty, moist, lightly seasoned since we went with cluckin crispy. The kitchen staff truly has the cook time down to a science. Each tender was thoroughly cooked, scorching hot, and meat was so white/clean. Our order came with 2 dipping sauces and anything additional will be charged. We went with barbecue, hot Hillcrest, and honey mustard. Sauces were just okay IMO but my daughter sure loved the honey mustard. The fries were good but I'm not a fan of really crispy fries. If you are the polar opposite of wanting lightly crisp & fluffy fries, these may not be for you. Mac N Cheese was doable contrary to is being told it was what CNS is famously popular for. 4 stars. Don't sleep on Cluck N Sip, this is some of the best chicken tenders I've ever had!! The sauces we picked weren't my faves but there are always a few others to try. I wouldn't hesitate coming back.
BE Aware! Please do not give them your business. They don't deserve! I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was incredibly disappointing. We drove all the way from Los Angeles because we were excited to find a halal fried chicken restaurant in San Diego. Unfortunately, from the moment we walked in, the cashier had an unfriendly and disrespectful attitude. Instead of feeling welcomed, we felt like we were an inconvenience. We spent over $100 on food, yet just moments after placing our order, the cashier told us we needed to leave because they were closing. Being rushed out after spending that much money is completely unacceptable and shows a lack of appreciation for customers. When I politely asked for the manager's or owner's name so I could address the issue, the cashier refused to provide either. There was no attempt to apologize or resolve the situation. As someone who values supporting halal businesses, this experience was extremely disappointing. Great food means very little if customers are treated poorly. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this restaurant and would encourage others in the halal community to consider supporting businesses that treat their customers with respect. I also plan to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau regarding the customer service we received. I sincerely hope the owners become aware of how customers are being treated and take steps to improve.
Get your Lipitor ready because Cluck and Sip knows how to fry. The chicken is crispy, well-seasoned, and comes in three styles - classic, Szechuan spicy, and salt & pepper. The Szechuan option brings just the right amount of heat to keep things interesting. The fried flounder was fantastic! Crispy on the outside, tender inside but yes, it's a little on the greasy side, so have a napkin or two ready. The fried shrimp was simple but done well. Bonus points for the sauce options: ranch, honey mustard, hot & spicy, and more. Perfect for those of us who like to dip and dab. Don't forget to add the honey butter biscuits to your order. I'll definitely be back to try the rice bowls and sammiches. If anything else, to see how far I can push my Lipitor Welp! Onto the next!
The fried chicken here is amazing. So delicious and juicy. Really love their unique flavoring. Had spicy tenders and spicy chicken sandwhich. Mac and cheese was good. Spicy mayo is my favorite sauce out of all their options. Service is great too, the cashier was super friendly and explained the items I had questions about. Chill place to stop by and have a quick lunch. My go to fried chicken place now, Highly recommend!
Cluck cluck cluck all the way! I ended up stopping here during work when I forgot my lunch and I'm glad that I did. Not only is the chicken delicious, but they have great daily deals that'll leave you clucking for more chicken: Tu/Th 9 piece chicken tenders for $15.99, M/W/F 8 piece chicken for $14.99, and 2 piece chicken combo for $7.99 until 3pm. The chicken comes out piping hot, crispy, and with a nice kick if you like spicy food. The chicken tenders are huge and you definitely won't leave hungry. The staff is friendly and quick with orders and there is a bit of seating to enjoy your meal. Definitely stop by if you're craving fried chicken! I also saw a salt and pepper chicken that I'll have to try on my next stop!
I enjoyed my 2-piece (thigh and drumstick) lunch combo with mashed potatoes (side of gravy) and a soda. They seemingly have pre-prepared fried chicken under heat lamps, but it took a few minutes to serve my lunch and the chicken came out piping hot. Their special spicy mayo sauce aka Hillcrest sauce went well with the chicken. The food was good. Next time I'll try the chicken sandwich. Not much in the way of ambiance at this Cluck N Sip.
Meh. Fried shrimp was good. Had a nice kick to it and was super crispy. I like my seafood dry so for me it was good. Spicy mac and cheese was not great. No real flavor and the potato salad was for sure store bought tub. Nothing great about it. I ate the shrimp and tossed the sides after a couple bites. 3% service fee added and still asked for a tip too. Would I go back? No.

The sandwiches are packed with flavor (don't skip the spicy one!), Excellent food which is halal and although fried it was still relatively light, not heavy or with excessive oil. We had the lunch 2 piece chicken combo and the spicy chicken sandwich and both were yum. and multiple options for sides that hit the spot. The vibe is casual but lively, and service is quick and friendly. Great spot for a cheat day, a casual hangout, or when you're just seriously craving something satisfying. Highly recommend -- your cravings will thank you!
I've heard lots of great things about this place from my coworkers, and for the most part it's true. It's good, it's affordable, and its thiccc. 1)spicy chicken sandwich, mild spicy +What they did well: generous size tender pieces, well marinated, juicy inside, crispy skin. -What they can improve on: the spice level wasn't accurate. I got the mild and it tasted like zero spice. My friend got then level 3 (which they said was 6/10). He said it tasted more like a 4. - I read later that their shop boasts their sichuan chili oil in their spice. I did not taste any of it. -personally I would have liked more pickle to contrast with the crispy chicken. 2) mac and cheese side +extra cheesy, extra creamy, and extra hot I would come back again and try a higher spice level to see if there's actually sichuan chili oil in there. Also got a fountain drink as a part of this combo. Pretty good deal, total $11 for this meal

Honestly, instagram brought me here and what a surprise! lol Needed a good cheat meal pickmeup after a rough day and fried chicken house hit the spot. Smack dab in then middle of Hillcrest, FCH is tucked away on Washington Street. Was able to find street parking around 8pm but could see it being tricky during busy hours. I ordered online and got the notification my order was ready no less than 10 min after ordering. My 6pc OG wing and fries came out piping hot! Even by the time I got home, the chicken and fries still had a nice crunch to them. Massive WHOLE wings! I've not seen wings this big in a long time. Well seasoned, crunchy skin, and cooked to perfection. Unique halal flavor blend as well. Looks like they have daily specials and my 6pc could have easily fed 3 people. Such a steal for $16. I'll be keeping fried chicken house on speed dial for all fried chicken wing needs. Definitely give them a try! read more

Chicken was very fresh! Honestly some of the best chicken I've had. The mashed potatoes were good, a little sticky but I don't mind that. Honey butter biscuit yum!!! The sauces were all tasty as well. read more

Great local spot in Hillcrest to satisfy your fried chicken cravings! This restaurant is located right on Washington St. near Panda Express. They have both outdoor and indoor seating. As soon as you enter, there are two kiosks/screens you can order from. They have everything from individual fried chicken pieces, to sandwiches, to fish and shrimp options as well! Their sides include French fries, hainan rice, Mac n cheese, biscuits, macaroni salad, jambalaya rice, mashed potatoes, etc. I love that they offer sichuan style spicy chicken that you can adjust the heat level to your liking! Their chicken is HALAL, another huge bonus! I ordered their special happy hour special from 4-9 pm that included four fried spicy sichuan style chicken legs, a side of spicy Mac and cheese, and a drink for less than $10! The food came out in a prompt manner and the food was piping hot and fresh. The Mac n cheese was creamy, gooey, and had a lovely texture/flavor with a hint of spice. It paired perfectly with the fried chicken which had a lovely crispy exterior with a moist, juicy interior. It came with two sauces of your choice, I chose honey mustard and the Hillcrest sweet and spicy. Both the sauces were absolutely delicious and well balanced! Walked from the hospital and found this unique Korean Fried Chicken joint. Very clean and modern decor with an offering that spans the Deep South to Korea! I had a spicy chicken sandwich and tried their new rice. The chicken sandwich was perfect. I could have used more spice but medium was perfectly challenging and I like spicy foods. Rice was good but a bit plain. I'd order the rice only if I was putting something on it. Quick meal, great service, great spot for a quick lunch. read more

I really like this spot! They are not your traditional fried chicken place. They have some spices imported from Japan, which makes it a little more unique. I tried the tenders, spicy mac n cheese, chicken sandwich, and potato wedges. The chicken was very flavorful and so crispy. The mac n cheese was very creamy and the crowd favorite among my group. Service was very fast and efficient. I need to go back soon! read more
YALL this fried chicken joint is amazing!!! Cluck n Sip is an Asian inspired fried chicken shop. It serves your classic chicken, sandwiches, and sides but with a flavor-packed Asian twist. I dropped by recently, lured in by the banner proclaiming a $7.99, 2-piece meal deal. The restaurant was very clean and service was so friendly and helpful. I ordered and my food was ready pretty much as soon as I finished deliberating over fountain drinks. It came in the CUTEST reusable bag with their logo, what a nice touch! I got the 2pc spicy meal with a leg and a thigh, with a side of potato wedges, and the hillcrest sauce. Their meals also come with a piece of buttered toast. Everything was neatly packaged, with sauces and utensils in little paper bags. As soon as I got in the car I knew I was in for a treat. I was basically hotboxing mouthwatering spices in there my whole drive home. I snuck a potato wedge and those babies were fried to perfection! Flavorful with the perfect mealy interior. With this chicken, all I can say is it was love at first bite. The breading was NOT overly heavy, the chicken was so juicy and tender, and most importantly the SPICE was so unexpectedly delicious. It's not straight up heat like Dave's hot chicken, but more like a flavorful spice mix! It reminds me of the spicy powder I like to use to dip lamb skewers, and I definitely taste the Asian influence. The hillcrest sauce is similar to the creamy sauce that every chicken place has nowadays, but I think it was less cloying than some of the ones I've tried. With the buttered toast I assembled a sandwich with sauce, potato wedges, and meat, and lemme tell you that first bite was INSANE. For $7.99 this was a pretty good deal !! They give a TON of potato wedges, and I only got the regular size for my side. I cleared my plate and was definitely stuffed and immensely satisfied afterwards. Cluck n sip has other deals (see my pics) so I will definitely be back to take advantage of them! read more

I've been craving fried chicken for months now. Was so desperate that I went to KFC and ate out of a bucket. I was just walking by and saw all the awesome reviews - and well deserved!! Fresh Fried Chicken - key word - FRESH. Like your G-ma makes - but better because they have delectable sauces: Hillcrest Hot punches a sweet hot chili that leaves your mouth buzzin'. The chicken is fried to perfection and served hot to your table. That's never happened to me at those 'other' places. Big fat pieces of chicken - nice portions!! Staff was incredible - these guys hustle for such a tiny place. Awesome recommendations. Can't wait to come back! read more

Been to a LOT of fried chicken spots, especially halal ones all over the US. Dave's in fact has been a staple due to the convenience but this spot hands down has one of the best fried chicken you can get. Perfect crunch on the outside with a moist delicious piece of chicken on the inside. Generous portions too. The spicy chicken is VERY highly recommended, quite unique with the black sesame seeds in the spice (you can get it without if you want). This is definitely going to be a regular stop. read more
The Chicken Tender family meal keeps me cluckin n sippin for a few meals! The tenders are phenomenal and the breading is light and delicious. You get the best value from the family meal and I enjoy having extra tenders for snacks later. I also enjoy their fries and the Mac n cheese. My only suggestion is to ask for extra seasoning (not really spicy) and to not pick the buffalo sauce (not the best flavor). read more
We were down in the Hillcrest area and noticed a sign along the lines of #1 spicy chicken! It is a fairly new restaurant that offers fried chicken with Asian influences. There are options for chicken tenders and wings, either spicy or normal. They have a great deal, which is a 2 piece chicken combo with your choice of side (Mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, potato wedges, etc) and a fountain drink for $7.99. If you get this option you'll get juicy and tender that is crispy and fried. Though we opted for the no spicy option, we were able to taste the spicy option and there was a hint of spice (not overbearing), which made the chicken flavorful and enjoyable. I encourage you to buy the spicy chicken option because it's delicious! The service was great. They seemed to be aware of the menu and engaged with us. The place was really neat and clean. I really enjoyed my meal at Cluck n Sip! There was a sign outside for a $7.99 2 piece chicken combo that came with a side of choice, honey toast, dipping sauce, and a soft drink, which I thought was a super amazing deal! The spices used on the spicy chicken are Asian inspired. It has Sichuan pepper oil and is sort of reminiscent of Taiwanese popcorn chicken. It was unique and tasty. I would skip the spicy Mac n cheese next time, but I was really impressed with the side of potato wedges. The portion size was huge, and the texture and seasoning were good. There's a couple of tables to sit at in the restaurant. The cashier was friendly and at the end of our meal, the owner asked us if everything was good and he was super nice as well! I'll be visiting here more in the future ^.^ I'm happy to have another chicken place to frequent near me. read more
