This was my favorite burger place in San Diego that I would tell all my friends about until last week.
I had work at 4pm so I called a lunch order in at 12:30 with the hopes to grab it and go home and eat and have plenty of time to get ready for my night of work.
I called the order in at 12:30, am told over the phone that my order will be ready in 10-15 minutes, perfect. I arrive in 20 just to give a little more time so I didn't have to wait, so I am paying for my order in line now at 12:50 with a nice young lady behind the counter. I don't see my order ready yet which kind of alarmed me but I figured that they either didn't drop it until I got there or whatever but no big deal, there was only about 3-4 other patrons in the restaurant.
As I wait in the tiny waiting room where the cashier and I locked eyes multiple times, she continues to act busy and run around frantically when there wasn't much going on at all. I was expecting an "your order will be ready shortly", or " have you gotten your food yet sir" but nothing. Two parties of 4 then enter the waiting room. Some kids stoned out of their minds and a group of construction guys who seemed like they were "locals", spoke Spanish knew the cooks and got their food when A. Their order wasn't called in, because I heard the girl ask him what he wanted, and B. It's extremely rude and unprofessional to do that.
45 minutes go by, it is now 1:37. I go up to counter where now the cashier is replace with a big tall tattooed girl, she looks like she is in a bad mood as soon as she entered the door to work. After seeing. both parties of 4 start eating their meals after I had been there for an hour now, I lost it. I went up to the counter and was like "How long does it take to make one burger and fries"? And she was like I dunno I didn't ring you up, it's not my problem. As the other girl who did stood there and said nothing. She then replies "the cooks can drop the fries now". Oh yeah I want to pay for a meal that I've waited an hour for as I have a stomach ache watching everyone else in here eat.
I asked for a refund and she goes, sure it takes 5-7 business days, swiped my card and gave me no receipt. I asked politely, may I please have my receipt that I waited an hour for, just to pay 14$ and get no food.
I get in my car and called the other Canada steak burger location in Chula Vista and explained to them that I had been going to the University location since I was a little boy. My mom used to always take me in there, I'm 31 now. The disrespect I received was unlike anything I have ever endured at an establishment of business. I work for Amazon and it's always Customer, Customer, Customer. It has gotten away from that here unfortunately and it sucks.
The worst part about it all, is I was offered a free meal by the staff after what had happened. I was told to go back into the restaurant and that the girl who had disrespected me verbally "was very sorry about everything", so even though I had already arrived at my house about 5-7 minutes away in an absolute downpour of rain, and now about 1.5 hours before I need to go to work - I still went back. As I walked in smiling I approached the counter and apologized for coming off rude but as I explained to her, waiting an hour for food would make any paying customer furious. She looks at me says nothing and just slides the bag forward. I ask the cook for a side of ranch as she gives me the death stare with her huge tattoo on her neck.
One of, if not the most uncomfortable experiences I've ever had.
Just thought I'd share. Not a family environment once so ever. I really hope it can improve over there. I'm not bringing my money or business to these people anymore. I've told the story to a ton of my friends that have been there and have all been like "yeah we are not going to be going there anymore" because of that.
I hope it can turn around because the food is good. Service just makes you want to run away.
If I call and she answers, I will take my business somewhere else every single time. I don't care how good the food is. read more
