Food here is good. The staff, though very busy, does a great job of meeting or needs. The shrimp in the Lowcountry boil is a little bit over boiled and hard to peel, but the cocktail sauce and seasoning that they use is the best I've ever had. It was okay ... But far from fresh seafood. I ordered shrimp etouffee and it literally had 1 single shrimp about the size of a dime in it. The worst part ... I was traveling through Foley, and decided to stop at Shrimp Basket since I had never been. And when I say the service was absolutely INCREDIBLE. My servers name was Lainey and she was the best server I've ever experienced in my life. I just recently had knee surgery, and I currently have trouble walking. As soon as I got out of my car Lainey saw me struggling and ran outside and escorted me all the way inside. The food was amazing, and Lainey brought it out swiftly and just made sure I was taken care of the whole time I was there. We have been going to Shrimp Basket regularly for over 20 years, and the Foley location for 5 years. Consistently good food is important and no matter what time of day we go, the food is always hot and fresh. Great selection and attentive, friendly staff. Their chicken wings are better than some places that have "wings" in their name...always crispy and juicy. The jerk sauce and boss sauce are full of flavor without being tooo hot and spicy. Manager will profile you if you have tattoos and long hair. They will refuse to give you the gms number and will refuse to give you hrs number when that's who is supposed to contact us. The way this was handled was laughably poor. The manager Christy most definitely should not tell her employees to leave and lock the door without giving contact info I'm pretty sure you legally have to give. Oh so dearly tasty I love this place . The coconut shrimp is fried to perfection and golden brown. The workers are so precious. The bathrooms are clean and that's a very wonderous thing. First off, previously, we had eaten here about 7 years prior and had been DYING for crab claws since then. You can dine inside or out on the patio. This place has simple and fun decor. They also sell Shrimp Basket T-Shirts in various colors and sizes. They have locations in Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi! I want one in the Los Angeles area, please?? When we knew we were coming to Foley, AL from Los Angeles, CA, I knew I would be indulging in these crab claws! I have to say that I had my fill while I was in town, and that is meant in a good and bad way. When were here during this visit in March of 2015, we dined in and did a carry out. When we ate in, everything was exceptional, and really delicious! It was a totally different story when I ordered crab claws to go. We started with an Iced Tea, a Sweet Tea, and a Lemonade. We also ordered the Crab Claws Appetizer and a Crab Cake Appetizer. Oh my word, I was in crab claw heaven! They came out hot and were perfectly fried! Just exactly the deliciousness I had remembered and drooled over countless times! The Crab Cake was tasty! For the meals, we ordered: Whitefish Tacos - they were messy, but good Shrimp Skewers - they were grilled and seasoned well Sauteed Scallops - fresh from the ocean, imperfect and delectable bites Crab Claw Appetizer - because the actual appetizer got devoured, I had to order one for my meal! As we were nearing the end of our meal, we ordered 18 Raw Oysters and 2 combo baskets to-go. On another visit, we called in an order of crab claws and a crab cake to pick up. The crab cake came out fine. However, I about cried when I saw the crab claws. It really looked like I got all the rejected claws, they were tiny and overcooked, almost burnt. Besides the fact that they were so horrible, I was despondent because I knew they'd be the last ones I'd eat in a long time because we were leaving and heading back to the West Coast. :( Dear Shrimp Basket, I am so disappointed! Why did you have to serve these mostly inedible ones and why give them to me as the last taste in my mouth for a long time? I just am in such disbelief! Poor offering! I would have taken 2 rating stars off just for this alone, but I didn't. To say the staff was overwhelmed is an understatement. However they went above and beyond to treat our family with kindness. Our food took a while to get, but was hot and fresh. I felt the price was right on point and the Assistant Manager Danay went above the call of duty not just to help us but others as well. Thought I would give this place five stars just boosted up a bit. I was craving fried crab claws and I'm allergic to shrimp but yelp told me to go here so I did!!! I got a cold beer and even though they only have plastic cups it went down very good and started with the basket of fried crab claws. You just don't find those in Georgia so I enjoyed every bite!! So now that my bellies halfway full already I opted to just get the crab cake appetizer and a basket of hush puppies to finish off my high cholesterol cheat night. I had the crabcakes grilled so the center was actually saw but full of crab and some veggies. I personally actually love them!!! Took our family from out of town here because we have eaten at the one In Pensacola multiple times and always had good food and service. Very disappointed In the food and cleanliness. We spent over $200 and I was very disappointed in our dinner. Some of the food was over salted , some didn't have any flavor at all. The drinks were expensive and were watered down. Yes, there are options other than deep fried at Shrimp Basket. Our extended family loves coming here on every year, and it has good food. The fried food is alright, but I always regret it afterward. The batter does not have much flavor, so the the fried pickles give the flavor a bit more kick. The po boys, gumbo, and potato salad are good, but the corn nuggets and beans and rice bowls are the best. If you're going to eat something fried here, the corn nuggets are where it's at. They're a bit stingy with them though. So if someone else in your crew offers theirs up, be the quickest on the draw. This time I had the blackened mahi mahi tacos and substituted loaded potato salad for French fries. It was good, but my personal favorite is still the beans and rice bowl. Update 7/6/21 Firecracker Fries are where it's at! New on the menu since last year. Ordered these as an appetizer. They were so good we ended up getting another order as an entree. The crab cakes weren't overly crabby tasting, which is a plus in my book. The sauce they come with makes them even better. Looking for a consumable souvenir, rather than more junk no one uses/wants? We like the foley location better than the gulf shores one, Customer service and food is better, and wait is good at this location. This is the go to place for our 7yr old daughter to her friends shrimp, she just started liking it and we are happy to take her when she requests the shrimp basket for dinner. Business owners dont understand CUSTOMER SERVICE WILL MAKE OR BREAK YOUR BUSINESS. My last visit to this location was in May 2008. I remember because it was my nephew's graduation from Robertsdale HS and the service that day was horrible. We had a party of 13, Servers were young, rude and just didn't know how to interact with larger parties. I said I would go back to this location I wanted shrimp and Wacky's was closed, so after church, my mom suggested Shrimp Basket. I side-eyed the idea, but she was like it could be so different. I was willing to give anyone a 2nd chance. 1st off our server put us at a super wobbly table. Not wanting to move without getting the advice of where to sit from our server, I tried to get our server's attention by standing by the table but she was oblivious or had no concern as to why I was standing while she looked right past me. F*%$ it, I'll sit wherever on my own. The new table we sat at was a little sticky. Finally, the server came over and I asked if she would please wipe off the table cause of the stickiness. She went to get a bottle of cleaning solutions that smelled strongly of bleach and sprayed the table with us sitting there. Spraying my 99-year-old Grandmother and myself That killed the whole experience for me. Why would you NOT spray a cloth to wipe down a table instead of spraying your guest with no concern, and no apologies? Although the food was great, I wont be back, ever. We haven't been out to eat in a restaurant for over a year..we have just done take out , but our son and dil are here for a visit and we are all vaccinated so felt comfortable doing so now. I ordered grilled shrimp the same thing I have been taking out and what a huge difference . The shrimp were bigger , tastier , just so much better eating in..the whole meal just fresher tasting..Hubby had the stuffed flounder and I kinda wished I would have been brave enough to try it ,it was delicious but anything Cajun is too spicey for me..This just had a very slight kick to it..my dil had sausage and chicken Cajun pasta and tho very good it was too spicey for me ..my son had a combo fried platter which my stomach says no to to much fried foods so I didn't bother tasting that..he said it was very good... We have been to the Shrimp Basket in Gulf Shores several times. It is our go to place for awesome fried shrimp. This was our first time at this Shrimp Basket in Foley. The Gulf Shores location has a more touristy vibe, whereas this location has a more locals vibe, which was fine. My wife and I both had the Shrimp Basket entree. Our fried shrimp was excellent, as usual. The fries, hushpuppies and corn fritters were good as well. My wife had the fried okra and she thought it kind of tasted like frozen fried okra that we have bought at home before. No bad, but we expected better. I had the dozen raw oysters and they were fresh and delicious. The margaritas are always good. Our server was friendly and attentive. Overall, a great experience. read more
