THE ORIGINAL PITA BURGER
Yolanda T.

We drove from Greensboro to Winston-Salem to get a taste from one of my childhood restaurants, Showmars. Excellent and great service! Had the original pita burger with pickles side of tater tots and hubby had the all American burger on pita with fries. Everything came out hot and fresh! Always a family friendly and welcoming environment to relax and enjoy time for a conversation. It meant a lot to us for the owner/manager to thank us for dining with them. That's rarely heard these days. Keep up the great work! We'll be back!

WORLD FAMOUS FISH SANDWICH

Per usual, I have a craving and then I go search for it. Today, I was craving a fish sandwich and was told this is the place I should go. I was happy to see they give you a good size piece of fish but I wasn't quite in love with the sandwich. It was very fresh, I just needed a little more seasoning and a softer piece of bread. They do seem to have many other options that I would love to try so I'll certainly be back to see what all the rave is about.

Customer service is on point. Very friendly. Food came out hot and fresh. Fries and fish could use some salt but the tartar sauce is very delicious!! My daughter's chicken tenders were cooked to perfection.

Another great experience at this location with extremely friendly and helpful staff that always has a smile on their face. It was lunch trip so we got takeout for the chicken gryo platter and roll and the salad with hummus. The food was as always super on point and delicious. The srrvice was quick and ambience was nice and calm. We love coming here and the food just wish the portion sizes were slightly bigger so they could stuff 1 person to the brim. I love the pepper they give to give a little tangy spice to the meal. Definitely worth checking them out when in town!

World Famous Fish Sandwich

I decided to give this place another go, mainly because of the popularity of two sandwiches - Fried Chicken and their "World Famous" Fish Sandwich. Now heading in, I'm more than a little skeptical - when any restaurant that few have heard of, and even fewer have eaten at, dubs something as "World famous" it is almost always, NOT! But I plowed on, I've been wrong more than a few times, want to see how this plays out. The fish sandwich was actually excellent - nicely battered, fried very well, in a very nice bun, with excellent tartar sauce on both sides of that bun. All in all this is one of the very best fish sandwiches I've tasted - up there with Captain's Catch and Pantry Fried Chicken in Greensboro. The chicken sandwich was not one I cared for. Instead of a filet, chicken tenders were used. And while it was well sized, the sandwich was rather hard to keep together. I don't care for tenders so this sandwich is not for me, but many seem to care for it!

Why don't we come here more? I'm a fan of quality quick service restaurants and they do it well! I ordered the Greek salad with chicken, and ordered the kids Mac and cheese with fries. It arrived quickly and was all fresh and delicious. We were there at lunch time and they were definitely busy but turning over tables quickly!

Great food, excellent service, nice atmosphere. All American burger on a pita w/fries and a chicken sandwich with tots! That is all I'm saying until further notice.

Pepper Jam Pita Burger

Stopped in at Showmars recently after visiting some family down the road and was pleasantly surprised! The service was quick and super nice! I opted for the special at the time, the Pepper Jam Pita Burger, and a side of tots. The burger was very tasty and full of flavor. The combination of the pepper jam with burger was next level good. I do feel that the burger itself was a little too greasy but dabbed with a napkin and it was good to go! The tots were amazing! Fried to perfection and perfectly seasoned. We will definitely be back soon to try some of the other menu items!!

Showmars is one of my favorite casual spots! It's Greek with a twist. We typically head there once a week for a quick lunch or dinner after work and it never disappoints. Their cheeseburger pita and chicken souvlaki plate are two favorites. The portions are large and everything is made fresh to order so it's steps above fast food without the crazy price points of a dine in restaurant

Out the door with full bellies for two people for $25. Ordered a veggie pita (no cheese, sub hummus so cost me $.99 extra), fried chicken sandwich, tots, and hummus/pita side. No drinks. Food was good, but not great. I'd pick Cava down the street but it was a solid A- for me. What would've made it better: - More pita with our hummus (tasty) - falafel for the veggie pita; not on the menu - More topping options for the chicken sandwich (was basic). Overall nothing was bad, but I would make some changes. Service was excellent and the place was spacious with great outdoor shaded seating.

Fried flounder platter

We still enjoy the fried flounder here. It's always served hot. The sides they offer are fresh as well. You can get a small garden salad as a side which we appreciate. The service is always friendly and the dining room is nice and bright. Lots of windows.

We were looking for someplace to grab something to eat while in the area and pulled into the shopping area that has Showmars as well as other restaurants and businesses. We talked briefly about Showmars and decided to check it out. Their signage states they feature "Southern, Fresh, and Greek" which sounded intriguing but we weren't exactly sure what to expect. Upon waking in we learned customers order at the counter and we noticed an area near the counter for mobile or to go orders. We were greeted by the young ladies behind the counter and they seemed friendly and eager to help. We took a couple of minutes to look over the menu on the wall and my wife decided on the Chicken Santorini which features grilled chicken, onions and peppers served on rice, with pita bread, a side salad and tzatziki. I chose the bacon cheese pita burger with the crinkle fries and a soda. There were only a few tables seated but there was a consistent flow of customers along with people picking up to go orders. While the concept is similar to a fast food restaurant, this location feels very clean, well taken care of and comfortable. My wife used the restroom and reported it was equally as clean. Our food arrived and looked yummy. I wasn't sure what to expect with a burger pita but I enjoyed it. The crinkle fries were just okay and my wife enjoyed her meal as well. I had wished my diet soda didn't have so much ice in it but one of the young ladies offered a refill so that made me feel better about it. Overall it was a good experience and we also noticed they have a nice outdoor space which would be nice in warmer months.

In my husband's words, his scallop dish was a 10/10. I didn't try the scallops, but I loved the succotash! It was corn-heavy with bacon, white kidney beans, and a few other things I couldn't quite identify, but everything worked so well together. The moment you step through the doors, it smells exactly like a restaurant should - that warm, savory aroma of roasted chicken and fresh spices that instantly triggers your appetite. Even after a year away, my favorite spot on this side of town hasn't missed a step. The dining room was spotless and fully stocked. When my usual order was sold out for the day, the front cashier confidently suggested an alternative that completely hit the mark. She knows her menu for sure. The operational hustle here is rare. Bobby, one of the back-of-house chefs, noticed the front team was busy and stepped out of the kitchen to hand deliver my meal himself. The setup is simple: get in the single file line, look over the menu overhead while moving forward, and then place your order. The staff at the counter was very pleasant and quick to answer any questions we had. I went with the quarter chicken (dark meat) paired with the sweet potato fries and corn salad. Available beverages range from speciality fruit beverages, to bottled water, to Pepsi brand fountain drinks and of course, sweet/unsweet tea. I opted to go with just plain water. I was then given a number to place on the table of my choosing and wait for my order to be delivered. The dining room appeared clean with lots of seating. The music was a little loud for my taste, but it was probably the concrete floors and open ceilings that were more to blame for that. There is an adjoining glass window patio section that's much quieter, but it's not climate-controlled and it was pretty humid on the day of our visit, so we stayed in the main dining room and picked a table in the back. Our entrees came out in a timely fashion, and everything looked great. The chicken was moist and very tasty. The sweet potato fries could have been a little crispier in my opinion, but they tasted great. The corn salad was very refreshing. One of the staff came by to make sure everything was okay and to see if we needed anything. Kudos for that follow-up. Viva Chicken is definitely on our "must return" list.
