Skewers plate, comes with salad and fries too(pictured separately)

Hero House is a Winston Salem staple and a favorite for many....my sister swears they have the best souvlaki in town! It's my go to when I want a quick but consistent take out experience. Menu is extensive and varied but I suggest sticking to the Greek food for best overall experience. And if you haven't tried their falafel, you should! It's clear that they've worked hard to provide good food, portions and prices with the challenges of increasing costs and I appreciate the fast efficient counter service, value and consistency that they provide. For this visit we ordered the chicken skewers platter(items packaged separately to keep hot and cold foods apart), chicken souvlaki sub (small), and fries. Hero House is celebrating a milestone so they threw in some delicious cupcakes as a bonus treat for us, very nice! My suggestion---start selling those delicious cupcakes! *pictured is only half of the small sub* The Stratford Rd location has an ample dining area and plenty of parking

Since 1975, the restaurant has served up a broad array of tasty items - 50 Heroes, Deli Sandwiches, Wraps, Burgers, and Hot Dogs, as well as soups and salads, platters, sides, and desserts! If you are unable to find something on the large menu, you probably just aren't hungry! Came back to try the Tuna Salad Sub, and it was excellent. It's built a little different than the ones you might find at your neighborhood mom and pop - sub roll, lettuce, tomato, white onion, mayo, and something menu identified as "oil sauce" - OK Then - what exactly is "oil sauce" - best I can tell it is EVOO with seasonings. This is a very good sub, nice roll, well filled with very tasty tuna salad, then well topped. This sandwich is as good as almost any available in the area, with the possible exception of the at Jersey Mike's, dressed Mike's Way!

OK! So my Man and I drove by this place a few nights ago. He told several tales of his youth that included this glorious restaurant. Needless to say, we made a special trip into town for lunch! I had the Italian Sausage with an extra side of marinara! The sub bun held up the entire time! The sautéed onions and peppers swimming in the sauce was perfection! The slices of Italian Sausage had tons of great flavor! This sub was Devine! My Man got his favorite Italian Cold Cut toasted nice and hot. I had two bites! I could not pick which sandwich I loved more! The fries were meaty and fried to perfection! Not greasy! Just perfect! BTW- their ketchup is not watered down! Makes the fries taste even better! Looking forward to coming back to try more items! You can tell everything on the menu will taste amazing! MOST SINCERELY!

I had the opportunity to have lunch here today. It has been a while since I had eaten here so it took a minute to decide on the saugage parm sandwich with fries. The food was done quickly and tasted good. They have a large menu and if you have not eaten here before it may take a while for you to order. Everything I have eaten here has been good. The restaurant and restrooms ate clean too. I will eat here again.

We have wanted to try this place for a while and finally decided to check it out. We arrived just after they opened at 11am on a Saturday. Parking was easy because they had just opened. They must have a following because there were already people in their cars waiting for them to open. As we entered the tile floor in the entryway with the Hero house logo caught my eye. I thought this was a nice touch. After walking through the second set of doors it is much bigger than I expected from the outside. We were able to easily determine that customers place their orders at the counter. We proceeded a bit closer so we could easily read the menu. We were greeted by a young lady and we told her we needed to a bit of time to look at the menu. We tried to stand back so others could order and I saw they had menus taped onto the wall nearby. The paper menus also had descriptions of each menu item which made it helpful. I took pictures of the descriptions to add to this review. The overall menu was much more extensive than we anticipated. They have Hero's, deli sandwiches, soups, salads, pasta, wings and desserts. We went up to the counter and my wife chose the Deluxe Club on whole wheat and I decided to try the "8c" Philly cheesesteak with grilled onions, green peppers and American cheese. We also ordered their onion rings because we had read reviews from a local Facebook group stating they have some of the best onion rings around. We were given a receipt and found a place to sit while we waited for our number to be called. They have quite a few tables and booths and we saw at least four TV's in the dining area. Our number was called shortly after we sat down and we went to the counter to pick it up. Arriving at the table, everything looked delicious. We sorted out the trays and tried the onion rings first. We can honestly say, although very good, these are not the best onion rings we have had in the area. The onion rings had a fully coated batter, more soft than crunchy and would be better with more onion flavor. Everything else we ordered looked awesome! My wife loved her club sandwich and I really enjoyed the cheesesteak. The meat was chopped just right but I do wish it had more cheese. Overall this was a good experience and we are impressed with Hero House.

Service is excellent and the Gyro was a perfect sandwich on a hot day. I would visit again.

I called three separate time on a Sunday. All three times they picked up the phone and either said nothing or completely hung up.

I literally drove all the way from blowing rock,NC. Just get food from hero house in Winston-Salem. I really enjoy you guys's food.I'm currently pregnant and was having a horrible craving. It was quite disheartening to know that I couldn't call and place my order because they kept Answering the phone and not saying anything or completely hanging up! Hopefully next time I come I have a better experience, but I love this place so much. It's like a childhood staple.

Ordered Grubhub delivery during a lunch meeting. Sweet potato fries had delicious flavor but were completely cold. This could likely have just been due to Grubhub. My salad was good. I wouldn't say it was great. My colleague had the zucchini fries. They were good. We both got so many fries!!!! I would definitely order again from this restaurant. We can't comment on service or ambiance since we got take out.

Checked out Hero House for the first time this weekend & after reviewing their extensive menu I opted for the Chicken Parmesan sub and French fries. The sandwich itself tasted ok, however, I wish the chicken on the sandwich was breaded like a true chicken parmesan and not just grilled. We also had to try their homemade cake while we were there. The cream cheese frosting of the carrot cake was delicious! Overall, if you are looking for an affordable spot to get a sandwich I would give hero house a try.

This menu HAS EVERYTHING. A lot of sandwiches and pasta dishes. We had two 8 inch sandwiches and spilt a large side of potato chips. Both of us took half of sandwich home. Service is a walk up counter, with very attentive cashiers. Bus your own tables. A few tvs around the dining area with some March Madness games playing with no sound. I think the sandwiches are much better in restaurant than to go.

I have passed Hero house probably a thousand times in my life but yesterday I finally decided to give them a try. I had the Philly cheesesteak with grilled onions and while I usually enjoy a Philly Cheesesteak in the traditional style, they had the option of getting lettuce, tomato and vinegar on top as well so I gave it a shot. It was a solid sandwich. I enjoyed the lettuce and vinegar a lot more than I thought I would and everything was seasoned very nicely which I appreciated. As far as Philly Cheesesteaks go, it was one of the better ones that I have had in Winston-Salem. The cake was average as far as Carrot cakes go, the frosting was the highlight for me. Only con I had for them was that the bottoms of my cakes were a bit burned on each layer. The inside of the restaurant is definitely showing it's age and it some spots could use a bit of a deep cleaning. Overall if I was in the mood for a sandwich, I would much rather give them my business than to a large chain.

    Cheeseburger sub

This place used to be a hot spot for a good lunch although their prices have always seemed too high for a sandwich. I wanted to try something I hadn't had there before so I ordered the fried flounder sandwich and my husband ordered the cheeseburger sub. We also shared a side of sweet potato fries. I know it's been difficult for businesses to find good staff lately, but our cashier had zero personality and mumbled into his mask so much that I couldn't understand a word he said. A little training goes a long way here. On a positive note, our food came out quickly and it was nice and hot. The cheeseburger sub only had Mayo as a condiment so we added some ketchup from the bottle at the table. It was good and filled that craving for a burger we both had. The fried flounder sandwich had a great panko crust on it. I loved the thick tarter sauce and pickles and slaw added a nice crunch. The sweet potato fries were hot and crispy. I mostly took away stars for the cleanliness of the restaurant. We sat near the window and looked to the right where there was a bar with some stools you can see where there had been tape to allow for social distancing but has been removed. The grime is still clearly visible on the bar and the walls, tables, windows, mirrors were all visibly dirty. Maybe they need to have a cleaning party and use something stronger than water to cut through the build up. I'm not sure how they keep their A health rating. I just didn't want to linger and I don't think I'll go back again if this is what they consider clean. The food, although hot wasn't remarkable enough to be somewhere I need to eat since I can find similar items at many other places in town. Sorry Hero House, I hope you see this and do something about the general cleanliness of your dining room. These are where your guests sit and notice these things. No matter how clean your kitchen may or may not be, where your guests are sitting during their meal, is getting a long look from them. It matters a lot.

One of our favorite sandwich places. Salads are worth trying too! I had the falafel pita today and it was fresh and yummy. My daughter loves the chicken cordon blue sub. Such friendly people working today too! Lots of options, more than 1 or two for vegetarians, and really reasonable prices. Great for take out, but also cozy to eat in as well. I love supporting local, not a chain. Give them a try!

It's a small space - a few tables inside and a few tables out - but don't let that or the line you are likely to encounter deter you. They crank out sandwiches quickly here. Said sandwiches include about two dozen hot and cold offerings as well as the ability to build your own. The meats are Boar's Head, but the desserts and soups are made fresh in-house. Check out the display case for salads and sides that might catch your eye. O'Brien's prides itself on its Reuben, and so I went with the "mini" version (a quarter rather than a half pound of meat) with a pickle for my first visit here. Ordering at the register was a breeze, and I was fortunate enough to snag one of the tables for dine-in. Though I was a bit skeptical that the Reuben would match the hype, it delivered. I don't know that it is without a doubt the best version I've had, but it is definitely up there. The grilled rye was nice and crisp, and I appreciated that they used both mustard and Russian dressing. That, plus the meat, kraut, and melty cheese, made for a very satisfying bite. At $10, the sandwich proved a good value, too. Unpretentious and nostalgically comforting (for Northern transplants, at least), O'Brien's is a well-oiled sandwich-slinging machine. Though that Reuben will be hard to top, I look forward to giving one of their other offerings (maybe a Cuban, maybe a Spicy Italian) a try.

We were running errands and in the general area of Olive Tree Deli when my wife recalled the original location is in Winston. We enjoy there newer Olive Tree Diner at the Colin Creek Golf Course in Mocksville. We decided to check it out and arrived close to 9:30 am. We both agreed the building looks like a former Taco Bell. There is adequate parking and it is easy to find. Although we only perused the breakfast menu, we saw the menu board behind the counter featuring lunch and dinner options. We both agreed we need to come back and check out the rest of the menu. We ended up ordering breakfast. The man at the counter was friendly and efficient. My wife ordered the 3-egg omelet with bacon, no cheese. She requested sliced tomatoes instead of potatoes and toast. I ordered the bacon, egg and cheese sandwich on a bun. The prices are extremely reasonable and the place appears to be clean and taken care of. We took a seat and there was a steady stream of customers. Our food took a bit to arrive and my wife was immediately underwhelmed with her food. Granted, the prices are very inexpensive, but the omelet was very small and simply underwhelming. She also felt the tomatoes were too ripe. The menu for lunch and dinner options sounded much more appealing to us. We decided we would be willing to come back and try again but not for breakfast. Also, we recommend not coming here with any expectation it is anything like the location in Mocksville. Our experience in Mocksville has always been great - completely different vibe.
