Downtown Deli makes a mean pastrami sandwich. The people are nice, the location is great, and the prices are more than reasonable. I will be back for more.

French dip sub with homemade chips

It was my first time checking out Downtown Deli in Winston. A great casual option for lunch if you want a place to either dine with friends or alone like I did. You order at the counter and they give you a ticket with your number on it. While you are waiting you can grab your drink & select your seat. There is a very nice worker there who comes by and checks your ticket number and will bring the food right to the table. He even stopped back by and picked up my tray when I was finished. I had the French dip sandwich, which was roast beef and cheese on a hoagie with au jus for dipping and homemade chips. I personally would not get the French dip again but the homemade chips were good! I am looking forward to visiting again, trying something new and hopefully revisiting my rating.

Lunch today at Downtown Deli. Let me start with what was good. Super friendly helpful staff. The restaurant was very clean. The ice tea was really good and fresh brewed. I wish I could say I loved the food but I did not. It wasn't bad just nothing special. My husband got the Nathan steak sandwich and I got the John Luke described as a grilled Turkey sub. The bread was small for a sub roll and mushy like a hotdog roll. It came with lettuce and tomato but had very little of either on the sandwich. He got the house made chips and I got the fried green beans. Again it was just ok. Probably won't go back. I've had better at subway quite frankly and there are too many amazing sandwich shops in town to try again.

I am not going to lie the vinaigrette on the sandwich was way good! The potato salad was amazing. But for the price and the size of the sandwich I can think of three other shops where I would get double the food and two of them are sandwich chains. Like it's good I would go there for convenience but not a must go for me.

The costumer service here was great! I went two days in a row because the menu had so many things that I liked. It was also very affordable, and I loved how you could tell the place had character.

Downtown Deli is always reliable. You walk in, order at the counter, pick a seat or take it to go. It's quite busy between 11:30 and 1pm, but the push out the food rather quickly.it can be a bit loud, but it's typical lunch crowd, so I wouldn't expect anything different. I usually get Scott's favorite (seared tuna steak sandwich) which is quite fancy for a deli, but it's delish! It's seasoned well and cooked perfectly. However, I got the half chicken salad sandwich and chicken pot pie soup the last time I was there. (See checkin photo). The soups and fried hot chips with ranch are always a winner. The salad that I've had was shredded iceberg, so........I could've left that. My team had breakfast catered from here last week and it was fantastic. The bacon was crispy and the grits and scrambled eggs were PERFECT. I'd never had there breakfast, but I will definitely visit more often!!

A really good lunch spot. Although it is a little pricey for an everyday deli lunch, it's definitely worth splurging once a week if you work downtown. Downtown deli is only open on weekdays for breakfast and lunch, and they have a HUGE selection. You can upgrade your side to fried green beans for a little extra but it's really good, the house chips with ranch are also great! My boyfriend really enjoys all the sandwiches and I'm a big fan of the BLT because they really do stack it. The salad bar also seems to be pretty popular which makes a lot of sense for the business lunch crowd. The 4 stars is for it not being open on the weekends and the sometimes long line, but there is always plenty of room to sit and the staff is great!

    Tenders and fries
    Kyle B.

Was super busy so I decided to order from Downtown Deli through a food delivery app. I decided on the classic order of chicken tenders with a side of fries because a restaurant is only as good as it's tenders. The order was a little smaller than I anticipated as the to go box was barely halfway full. It came with your choice of honey mustard, BBQ sauce or ranch for the tenders. I chose the honey mustard and was pleasantly surprised as not all honey mustard is created equally. It was a little more liquidy than I would have liked but tasted like it was homemade. The tenders themselves were decently sized and came with 5 in the order. They were cooked well and didn't have an overpowering taste of cooking oil that many seem to have. The fries were crinkle cut and were pretty good, I just wish they had a little bit more crisp to them. I definitely will try them again to see what their other menu items are like

    Fried chicken salad special

By the wait to just order and the full tables, this place apparently pumps out some good food. I had a terrible time deciding and just went with the salad special that day. I love shredded lettuce, cucumber, onion and a meat for a basic salad and they delivered. Both of my friends had a different sandwich and inhaled it. They claim it was good. Walking out I saw their salad bar and I wish I would have just gotten that so I could have added some of my other favorites but I also saw a woman's cheeseburger and now I'm torn on what will be eaten for lunch next time.

The best Muffuletta I've ever had! Well done!

My friend ordered the breakfast burrito, it was huge! For a side she had the sweet potato tots. She let me steal a bite of both and yum! I opted for the Hot Honey Chicken with Pimento Benedict and wow! I was nervous the pimento cheese would be overpowering, but it wasn't at all! It was a nice, creamy complement to the spicy crispy chicken. The hollandaise cut through some of the richness for a pleasant mellower. Prices are reasonable and our waitress was great! The restaurant is larger than it looks but it does get quite crowded. Can't wait to come back here!

This is a solid restaurant with much to offer in the brunch/breakfast area - an area that has become popular and chic, and it almost always means much will be expensive, usual very expensive considering the less than costly menu ingredients that drive food choices here, and other such brunch spots. Brunch is seen as more than just a meal for some folks who are all into what is trendy, and restaurant are aware of this and prices are raised due to the "experience" element! I have tried several items here including their version of Huevos Rancheros (not a fan of how they make it, pulled pork is a party foul), the Eggs Benedict (decent but over priced for sure, $17 with bacon added), and several Omelette choices, can reach $15. This is obviously a popular spot in downtown Winston, but I find it generally overpriced, loud, and the service is inconsistent. I like a good adventure, but somethings simply are not worth the cost! Note that the prices for individual items are written, very lightly with no $ sign to the right of the item. This is done intentionally to make the customer pay less attention to what they spending. Many restaurants are using some form of this approach!

Sure, there are tables and booths scattered about, but otherwise the dining area feels hollow, without comfort or warmth. Credit to the hostess though for quickly getting a spot for me to sit during my visit, and to the waiter that promptly delivered menus. This is largely a selection of breakfast and brunch items with Mexican influences, and I decided to pick the eggs Benedict with smashed avocado. The wait didn't seem to be all that long, though I did empty a glass of refreshment during that time, and the wait staff were not all that prompt to see it refilled. Additional drinks did eventually arrive though, and the food came not long after. Even with the accompanying side of baked apples, the plate seemed scant in its content. And the flavors were pretty bland too, leading me to wish I'd picked something with more to offer, in addition to a dish with more substance. [That said, the omelets I saw on the plates of a neighboring table didn't seem all that large or visually impressive either.] The food didn't taste bad, mind you. I just didn't get enough in amount, in value or in quality to leave me genuinely impressed. Like the decor, the meal felt like it was a half-empty shell, with plenty of room for more. So maybe I'll go back another time and see if some other selection from the menu has more to offer. Otherwise, Eggies feels outclassed by most any other breakfast-focused dining option in the area. If I want simplicity on a plate, I can find it at a wealth of other restaurants with morning hours, and I can probably get more for my money there. And until I find something genuinely special about what's coming from the kitchen here, I don't see my attention or interest being captured by the relatively pedestrian experience I've had here so far.

We were promptly greeted and shown to our table near the fireplace. A quick glance around confirmed that the place was jumping, which is good news for any restaurant during the middle of the week. They appear to have a good selection of wine, beers and cocktails from the long list in the menu. I went with the lasagna; my wife had the fish and chips; and my colleague went with the Beast Burger. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their selection. The temperature of my lasagna could have been a tad hotter, but it wasn't enough of an issue to send it back. I would order it again. Service was good throughout our visit, but I am deducting one star for the noise level. The high ceilings give the restaurant a beautiful lodge look and feel, but they make for a very loud dining experience. The sound level at times was more like a school cafeteria in my opinion. Perhaps a table on the side of the dining room would be quieter where nearby walls could help absorb some of the noise. Bottom line: not the place for a quiet, romantic dinner.
