Downtown Deli makes a mean pastrami sandwich. The people are nice, the location is great, and the prices are more than reasonable. I will be back for more.

French dip sub with homemade chips

It was my first time checking out Downtown Deli in Winston. A great casual option for lunch if you want a place to either dine with friends or alone like I did. You order at the counter and they give you a ticket with your number on it. While you are waiting you can grab your drink & select your seat. There is a very nice worker there who comes by and checks your ticket number and will bring the food right to the table. He even stopped back by and picked up my tray when I was finished. I had the French dip sandwich, which was roast beef and cheese on a hoagie with au jus for dipping and homemade chips. I personally would not get the French dip again but the homemade chips were good! I am looking forward to visiting again, trying something new and hopefully revisiting my rating.

Lunch today at Downtown Deli. Let me start with what was good. Super friendly helpful staff. The restaurant was very clean. The ice tea was really good and fresh brewed. I wish I could say I loved the food but I did not. It wasn't bad just nothing special. My husband got the Nathan steak sandwich and I got the John Luke described as a grilled Turkey sub. The bread was small for a sub roll and mushy like a hotdog roll. It came with lettuce and tomato but had very little of either on the sandwich. He got the house made chips and I got the fried green beans. Again it was just ok. Probably won't go back. I've had better at subway quite frankly and there are too many amazing sandwich shops in town to try again.

I am not going to lie the vinaigrette on the sandwich was way good! The potato salad was amazing. But for the price and the size of the sandwich I can think of three other shops where I would get double the food and two of them are sandwich chains. Like it's good I would go there for convenience but not a must go for me.

The costumer service here was great! I went two days in a row because the menu had so many things that I liked. It was also very affordable, and I loved how you could tell the place had character.

Chicken potpie soup with half of a chicken salad sandwich!!

Downtown Deli is always reliable. You walk in, order at the counter, pick a seat or take it to go. It's quite busy between 11:30 and 1pm, but the push out the food rather quickly.it can be a bit loud, but it's typical lunch crowd, so I wouldn't expect anything different. I usually get Scott's favorite (seared tuna steak sandwich) which is quite fancy for a deli, but it's delish! It's seasoned well and cooked perfectly. However, I got the half chicken salad sandwich and chicken pot pie soup the last time I was there. (See checkin photo). The soups and fried hot chips with ranch are always a winner. The salad that I've had was shredded iceberg, so........I could've left that. My team had breakfast catered from here last week and it was fantastic. The bacon was crispy and the grits and scrambled eggs were PERFECT. I'd never had there breakfast, but I will definitely visit more often!!

A really good lunch spot. Although it is a little pricey for an everyday deli lunch, it's definitely worth splurging once a week if you work downtown. Downtown deli is only open on weekdays for breakfast and lunch, and they have a HUGE selection. You can upgrade your side to fried green beans for a little extra but it's really good, the house chips with ranch are also great! My boyfriend really enjoys all the sandwiches and I'm a big fan of the BLT because they really do stack it. The salad bar also seems to be pretty popular which makes a lot of sense for the business lunch crowd. The 4 stars is for it not being open on the weekends and the sometimes long line, but there is always plenty of room to sit and the staff is great!

Tenders and fries
Kyle B.

Was super busy so I decided to order from Downtown Deli through a food delivery app. I decided on the classic order of chicken tenders with a side of fries because a restaurant is only as good as it's tenders. The order was a little smaller than I anticipated as the to go box was barely halfway full. It came with your choice of honey mustard, BBQ sauce or ranch for the tenders. I chose the honey mustard and was pleasantly surprised as not all honey mustard is created equally. It was a little more liquidy than I would have liked but tasted like it was homemade. The tenders themselves were decently sized and came with 5 in the order. They were cooked well and didn't have an overpowering taste of cooking oil that many seem to have. The fries were crinkle cut and were pretty good, I just wish they had a little bit more crisp to them. I definitely will try them again to see what their other menu items are like

Fried chicken salad special
Meredith S.

By the wait to just order and the full tables, this place apparently pumps out some good food. I had a terrible time deciding and just went with the salad special that day. I love shredded lettuce, cucumber, onion and a meat for a basic salad and they delivered. Both of my friends had a different sandwich and inhaled it. They claim it was good. Walking out I saw their salad bar and I wish I would have just gotten that so I could have added some of my other favorites but I also saw a woman's cheeseburger and now I'm torn on what will be eaten for lunch next time.

The best Muffuletta I've ever had! Well done!

My friend ordered the breakfast burrito, it was huge! For a side she had the sweet potato tots. She let me steal a bite of both and yum! I opted for the Hot Honey Chicken with Pimento Benedict and wow! I was nervous the pimento cheese would be overpowering, but it wasn't at all! It was a nice, creamy complement to the spicy crispy chicken. The hollandaise cut through some of the richness for a pleasant mellower. Prices are reasonable and our waitress was great! The restaurant is larger than it looks but it does get quite crowded. Can't wait to come back here!

This is a solid restaurant with much to offer in the brunch/breakfast area - an area that has become popular and chic, and it almost always means much will be expensive, usual very expensive considering the less than costly menu ingredients that drive food choices here, and other such brunch spots. Brunch is seen as more than just a meal for some folks who are all into what is trendy, and restaurant are aware of this and prices are raised due to the "experience" element! I have tried several items here including their version of Huevos Rancheros (not a fan of how they make it, pulled pork is a party foul), the Eggs Benedict (decent but over priced for sure, $17 with bacon added), and several Omelette choices, can reach $15. This is obviously a popular spot in downtown Winston, but I find it generally overpriced, loud, and the service is inconsistent. I like a good adventure, but somethings simply are not worth the cost! Note that the prices for individual items are written, very lightly with no $ sign to the right of the item. This is done intentionally to make the customer pay less attention to what they spending. Many restaurants are using some form of this approach!

The Deets: I got the opportunity to try out Eggies off of Robinhood Road in Winston-Salem as it was the choice of some of my friends to catch a quick Saturday breakfast. Located within The Village of Robinhood shopping area, it was easy to access with plenty of parking within the shopping center. The restaurant is small but quaint, as we entered we got to snag the last open table at that time fairly quickly. Their menu is full of breakfast/brunchy/sandwich/burgers like offerings with plenty of offerings. I went to the "Build Your Own Combos" section of the menu, I'm all about choices. Here, you can choose 2 meats, 1 breakfast side, one bread/carb with eggs any style for $11.50 at the time of this writing. I went with 2 pieces of grilled pork tenderloin, sausage gravy side paired with one of their biscuits (planning on biscuit & gravy, yum!) with some scrambled eggs. Breakfast came out within an acceptable wait for a full house, no longer than anticipated wait. My selections looked great, with the portions being adequate but not overgenerous. Of note, the biscuit was big, fluffy, and exactly what you would expect from a Southern style biscuit. The biscuit combined with their sausage gravy was enjoyable with the scrambled eggs and tenderloin (I am glad I ordered two of them instead of two separate meat selections). With their satisfying coffee, I enjoyed this breakfast stop before the start of a busy day. I come to the best part of my visit to Eggies, the service. Our server was excellent...pleasant, helpful, refills right at the time needed, and so attentive with positivity. I wish I could give 5+ stars for her service, definitely made this visit enjoyable. I really wish Yelp had half stars in many situations and this time is one of them. With 4 stars for food/menu/atmosphere and 5+ stars on service, I really feel that this visit to Eggies was a solid 4.5 star experience.
